UBA closed today at N8.80, but the cross deal was done N9.47. The deal was done by United Capital Securities as both buyer and seller.

I remember the argument I had with Davide4.70 about 2 weeks ago that in a cross deal the price of the transaction could be higher or lower than the price of the security on the floor.
Bruv, i repeat myself..

Nobody can cross above the trading price in the market WITHOUT WRITING TO THE NSE FOR A WINDOW to effect that trade. The crossing has no impact in the price, it is just the volume that would increase.

Those kind of trades are termed "Off Market Trades"

Technically, NIPCO started the TO (take-over) pursuit of Mobil a while back when the $ - N rates were still within fair value of N200 - N250, so negate the tactical devaluation of the naira, NIPCO is still buying Mobil at the price it is trading.
yinka2011:
greetings to all the winners in the house.

read this article today about MOBIL - NIPCO deal on easykobo.

please whats your take on this?

[b]July 13 (Lagos) - Stock of Mobil Oil Nigeria ( MOBIL ) rose almost 10% today at the Nigerian Stock Exchange in Lagos as NIPCO recently extended the offer to buy minority shareholders holdings at levels just below N 420 per unit.

The stock rose to N 259 per unit today at the exchange.

But it is still surprising that the stock continues to trade at levels sharply below the level at which NIPCO acquired the majority shares of MOBIL which was around the N 420 per unit levels.

In more developed stock markets, the moment it is announced that the deal was happening at levels above N 400 per unit the stock price would have jumped to those levels. In fact if such a deal happens, investors would quickly buy into the stock to make a short term gain from the deal.

That did not happen at the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

What do you think are the reasons for this anomaly? or are we just expecting a bit too much as regard to fair play for minority investors in MOBIL and we should know better?

So it is possible for a Private Company to acquire a public listed Company in Nigeria by buying shares at a much higher level than they are trading at the exchange in a private deal and such a deal would have no positive effect on the price of that stock on the floor of the exchange.

Everyday is a learning experience.

Anyone who is able to get a job through this thread should also come and testify to encourage others.
My cousin got a job in a small telecom firm through one of the adverts here: the pay was below 50k. He endured a lot (insults & all) on the job for about a year and applied for another vacancy advertised here too. Turns out, it was GLO and his 1 year experience was super useful when he met Mike Adenuga in his final interview.

The rest is history, as they say.

Then again, my sister got a job through an advert here too. One of the leading agricultural & health firms in Nigeria.

If NPower is really on nairaland then you should have more than 16 posts.

I have looked at your threads, lots of questions, no answers.

Why are you even here? As a support staff or just to pass information? Bloggers are already doing that.

Up your game, be useful.
If you feel that you are capable of attending to the lots of questions being asked on a daily basis on NL (Stvpid ones, thrival ones, the annoyingly numerous threads opened daily on the Jobs board, questions that a simple search would answer), then by all means, apply to N-Power for the job role and quit your yabbing!.

May be the rules have changed. Cross deals can even take place without money changing hands, it usually occurs between clients using the same stockbroking house.

How did NIPCO become the majority shareholder of Mobil? Was it not been through cross deals? The purchase price of the cross deal was about N400, whereas Mobil was selling for about N240 on the floor.

Get a dictionary of finance to read more on cross deals or as Americans will call it cross trades. Or consult Investopedia
Deals within same house is not classified as "cross deals" in itself because it is one of the rules of the Exchange. (House - Price/Time - Quantity). If you are buying at a price, it picks up any available offer quantity from your house first, at that same price before execution at mkt, if not fully executed.

For NIPCO, they didn't just wake up and did the cross deal na. Cordross wrote to the Exchange for a Special Window to effect it, because it was virtually impossible to cross at N400 when the price was hovering at 200-300.

Same thing was done in 2014 by Meristem when the Dubai Corp. bought into DangCem.

Based on the volume crossed, it is possible that the price that the cross deals were done could be higher than the price the stocks sold for on the floor.
Cross deals are done based on the offer price at that particular point in time.

Yeah, learning how to fly is quite expensive.

The International Aviation College in Ilorin is a good start, as they teach the rudiments of flying (though you still need to further in SA/US), so i would advise you to write passionately to the following people for sponsorship:

1. Bristow/Caverton/OAS - It would serve as a good CSR for them, as well as workforce diversity. Basically, they will sponsor, train and employ you. Try your luck, you never can tell

2. The Senator representing your constituency - I don't know him/her, but this would go a long way in his/her future political manifesto grin

3. Your State Governor

Don't give up on your dreams!.
