Scholar8200: The ransom is for the life of the owner of the killer Ox who knew his Ox dangerous tendencies but left it to roam freely
So tell me how one determines the dangerous tendencies of an ox?
Exodus 21:29,30 29 But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, and he did not take the necessary precautions, and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death. 30 If a ransom is set for him, then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.
You haven't still told me how that justifies killing an ox,just more bible verses as usual
This law was to cover possible extreme conditions. No where did this happen in scripture.
Yep,because an ox killing a man is more extreme than laws against the slavery that endangered such people in the first place?
There is nothing to prove your claims here. Notice the words IF and BETROTHED.
what claims have I pushed other than what the Bible wrote?...and how does the term "if" disqualifies the situation when it is used for a possible concept... You're finally grasping at straws as a last bait.
malvisguy212: you are wrong, what is wrong has always been wrong, and what is right has always been right. If someone offend us we seek for justice but if we offend others we seek for mercy , as an atheist, is forgiveness important? And why ?
You're yet to prove me wrong...and I don't speak for atheists nor atheism...just myself, and I say forgiveness is tied to disagreements and/or less invasive harm/wrong doing...i can't say if it's important or not without determining the brevity of the offense.
Scholar8200: A ransom was to be paid by the Ox owner in the case of a slave or a free man. I doubt this was so during the slave trade she referred to.
So what then justifies killing the ox if a "ransom" is paid?
The same rods was to be used in child training Proverbs 13:24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
So discipline involves beating to near-death and not being held accountable for death if he sucvumbs to his wounds within a few days?
How is this worse than the era referred to by the original inquirer? In fact I find the VS 8 very humane and a respect for the maid even though she was a servant.
So selling a daughter as a sex slave because of a divine commandment isn't worse than say because you don't know any better?
21:32 If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
21:20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
21:21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
21:7 And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
21:8 If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
malvisguy212: read the op again, there is a God's consciousness in every man.
No,you attribute empathy and altruism that underlines social creatures to be the handiwork of a god..
Even if I give you the benefit of a doubt,a simple question like why we are still changing/modifying our ethics, laws and customs differently flies in the face of a hypothetical "everybody has a law giver in their heads"..
malvisguy212: this verse is not talking about Hebrew slave:
"If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished." ( Exodus 21:20)
there are rules about slavery in the Bible, those rules exist to protect the slave. Injuring or killing slaves was punishable - up to death of the offending party. Hebrews were commanded not to make their slave work on the Sabbath, slander a slave, have sex with another man's slave, or return an escaped slave. A Hebrew was not to enslave his fellow countryman, even if he owed him money, but was to have him work as a hired worker, and he was to be released in. 7 years or in the year of jubilee (which occurred every 50 years), whichever came first. In fact, the slave owner was encouraged to "pamper his slave".
Exodus 21:21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money. .
That's the continuation of the verse...it basically says beating a slave to half-death is okay,as long as he doesn't die the first day.
malvisguy212: in the bible, people volunteers to work just to earn living still bible called it slave and in modern day slavery , they are forced to do things against their will , and you called this the samething ? Even went further to say biblical slavery is even worse than modern day slavery? Why are you allowing satan to come into your life ? Do you not know Jesus loves you ? Rebukes the devil and he will flee from you, the nairaland monikers you mention , ask them if they had disprove the existence of God , someone say God does not exist and you believe without asking question , this people deny "juju" exist and magic , do you believe them ? To be honesty , am sure you have come across juju or any spiritual things, this things are real, what's the use of eyes when the mind is blind ? Believe in someone on a faceless forum ? Seriously ?? Good for you.
tell me when voluntary work involved beating "volunteers" to near death and not being responsible for their deaths if they didn't succumb to their wounds on the first day,or when you can be a "volunteer" forever if your master dashes you a chick...or maybe how the bible describes plainly how to buy people from the heathens around in cases of non-hebrew slaves..
lopjohnny: if you think God doesn't exists....... then you must be s FÖÔL
That must make you a fool by heredity,as your ancestors didn't believe in the god you are touting now ..
This is the underlining problem with Nigerian Christians, insulting or defacing oppositional views is all you can do...no objective criticism of atheism whatsoever....
An2elect2: on seeing this thread, they thought they got a new convert, but seeing it was far from expectation there was OMG jaw dropping disappointment all over them. Lol.
Op is not regular here but when he visits he always comes like a whirl wind. Take it easy o. God does not exist ni
Again your reasoning is piss-poor,what high expectations do atheists have for deconversions?
joe4christ: I've often wonder long ago as a believer and still wonder till date why the church/christian would rather keep mute on this glaring contradiction. This particular contradiction is in reference to the genealogy of christ as recorded in Mathew 1:1-16 And Luke 3:23-38 by two individual who we were taught to believe they were inspired to write the scripture by the holy spirit. But I cannot fathom why two testimonies can thus be conflicting despite being inspired by thesame spirit. Or could I be reeking of ignorance? Then maybe those knowledgeable about scriptural truth could help me better understand. Meanwhile the contraction started from King David the ancestor of Jesus, and it makes me wonder if it is thesame Jesus' genealogy that is being written by the "spirit inspired" two independent separate writers of the books that makes up the "Holy Book".
Below are lists of the genealogy as recorded in the two books:
According to Matthew 1:1-16; [b]1 This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David a and of Abraham: 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. So, maybe someone can show me how these two scriptures aint contradictory with reasonable explanation.
An2elect2: Well it is not pathetic cos i have a superior reason to believe in God which is what you cannot see. Sad, it is only God that can relieve you of this damning blindness.
And it is this statement that breeds fundamental zealotry, claiming "superior reasons" to highlight your belief as the standard that everyone should follow.
You have no "superior reasons" just blind faith like all other religions that also claim "superior reasons" and fail to prove them...a jew would tell you he/she has "superior reasons" that separates him/her from a christian/muslim and so on and so forth.
I only looked at how useless your religion is in a different light. It is sensible to fight for a course that is productive and so far we have seen nothing from it, only attacks upon attacks on other religions and an an attempt to create another (false) basis for determining truth.
It is also quite disgraceful that the only tactic a believer like you uses when backed to the wall is to equivocate and misrepresent opposing positions.. i.e atheism = religion, islam = boko haram, traditional religion = blood sacrifice etc....
This tactic doesn't help you atall,it only shows how low and wretched you are willing to go to justify your crazy beliefs,if lying is the only way to go to do it then you've already lost the so called integrity of your faith you wish to protect...
The love i have for God is the reason i obey Him, not His wrath/reward. I do not seek for any pay from my Lord but only to thank Him for all He has done. I obey joyfully.
No,apparently your previous post implied you value rewards against honest values...and if i even give you the benefit of the doubt it would still be a defining factor as to why you want others to join your faith...because of the rewards/punishment scheme.
This would have been reasonable, if you were not disputing the harmless truth , including reason and asking men to think with their heads in between their thighs.
I wouldn't call something that's being used to terrorize children and interfere with social, emotional and judicial aspects of the soceity mere "harmless truth" especially when it doesn't even count as a truthful statement.
So far you've revealed yourself to be a despicable liar and a charlatan,i've stopped being surprised at these pathetic attitudes theists often display when defending faith..

An employer has nothing to prove to his employee...they are expendable but i get your analogy...it hardly changes the morality of the god character that grants eternal punishment for mere disbelief and mercy against the law for believing no matter what evil you've done..
An2elect2: The only thing they want from you is that you believe there is no God and what happens after then, whether you believe He doesn't exist or exists, you going down six feet below like every other man
Or is there a place where atheists go after this world to rejoice that they were "right" after all. They have no course at all, if they have one it is worthless.
So is the reason you believe in a god because you blindly believe in a place to celebrate for being right? Because it's sadly pathetic if that's the case..
If your actions are judged by a reward/punishment scheme then you don't and can't value your options, only the reward/punishment..
If someone believes drinking a little bit of lead won't kill him and you eventually convinced the person that they are wrong based on the fatal effects lead has, what more satisfaction is needed apart from the fact that you've freed his mind from such a dangerous belief and saved his life...
Eddlad: Since you like thinking let me ask you this, If the big bang actually caused everything to move from a center point then why do we have some objects orbiting others?
youngibeh: HABA! you think i can just lie just to feel good. i did not mention the name of the church to avoid your type thinking am advertizing my church. to me this is a mystery i have never seen before.
PLEASE LEARN TO BELIEVE PEOPLE FOR ONCE.
Learn to stop retarding the IQ's of your fellow Nigerians for once, this has to be the 4th picture now with the same "demon" posing in the same pixelated 2D format...
bananaboi....I'm an agnostic atheist, agnosticism isn't very understood by most people because they think it's a middle ground when it's not...It bothers on what stance you take based on knowledge....
If you know and believe a god exists then you're a gnostic theist.
If you lack the knowledege of a god but still believe in one, you're an agnostic theist..
If you don't believe in a god because of insufficient evidence and/or lack the knowledge pertaining to whether god/gods exist or not then you are an agnostic atheist..
If you don't believe and have a stance that no god/gods exists then you are a gnostic atheist...
My advice to you bananaboi,is to simply observe everyone here and in real life...you've already observed that religion or a belief can make one gullible enough to do crazy things.
Now if you want to know a god exists or not you won't know from others who also subscribe to your own dogmatic faith(it would be like going to a MAN U fan to verify if the club is great),it would be from a personal investigation into why people believe there's a god in the first place and exclude other people's god/gods in the process..
An2elect2: bananaboi there is a God and my prayer is that he reveals himself to you.
I was also in your shoes some years back, and God gave me eyes to see Him and ears to hear Him. He is "more real" than even the world we are inhabiting.
God knows from before time, that you will be in this position someday and He alone knows how to get you out. Who else will you cry to if not Him!
And when you're asked of proof you'll say it's a personal experience,so how is what you just wrote not a blatant lie?
