Mavin Records artiste, Dr. Sid has revealed how his career got so bad to the point that he got so frustrated with life. He confessed that a mild stroke followed that frustration which almost cost him his life. He then dropped the submission that “the race is not for the swift, neither is the battle for the strong, or bread to men of understanding.” He also added that if Nigeria must get better, the change must start with the individual. In his words; “I have had a period of real difficulty. I have had a period of financial difficulty. I was making music, nothing was working. I wasn’t getting booked at shows. Of my own doing, I didn’t have passive income. I didn’t have anything outside of music. I had health issues; I had high blood pressure and a mild stroke last year. I almost died.” “At that point, you think to yourself ‘What’s going on?’ I’ve struggled. In struggling you understand that the only person responsible for the change is you. Same thing with Naija as a whole. The issue with this country starts with individuals.” Source: https://www.denland.site/2020/01/dr-sid-reveals-how-he-almost-died-of.html

Bishop David Oyedepo on Saturday raged at some highly placed officials of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, a.k.a. Winners Chapel, who stole millions of Naira from the church’s treasury. The Nation reports that the cleric revealed how some very high up officials, mainly accountants, had looted the church’s treasury. The Bishop could not hide his disappointment that professionals trusted by the church to prevent fraud, turned themselves into a network of fraudsters. Expressing his disappointment in the errant church officials, who have since been relieved of their positions in the church, he said: “Can you imagine accountants perpetrating fraud in the house of God? We had no choice but to dismiss them. You can imagine top church officials engaging in doubling figures and other dubious practices. Even after we dismissed them, we discovered more fraud. Those who should discover the fraud were the ones involved in it. One of them refused to confess until the last minute. I have to tell everyone present here because I know the dismissed officials will come to you for employment. Don’t employ them and don’t sympathise with them. Whoever sympathises with the wicked is wicked himself. Don’t sympathise with any perpetrator of fraud, otherwise you are a partaker of the evil act.” Source: https://www.denland.site/2020/01/oyedepo-blows-hot-as-highly-placed.html

Opeyemi Bakare, on Wednesday, told a Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan that her husband of 13 years, Olawale, pushed her into committing adultery with his behaviour. Opeyemi, a fashion designer who resides in Olunde area in Ibadan, says Olawale beats her and nags too much. “I confess that I flirt with different men. At first, whenever men ask for my number, I give them my husband’s mobile phone number so that they will not approach me again. “However, when Olawale’s attitude became aggressive, I had to look for another man who could take good care of me and who would not expose me to hunger and thirst. “When he got to know that I was dating another man, Olawale poured petrol on me with the intention to burn me alive but he couldn’t lay his hands on matches at that time, maybe I would have been dead by now. “Besides, he doesn’t respect my mother,” Opeyemi alleged. On his part, Olawale, who objected to the divorce, denied all the allegations saying, “She also nags and insults me, using unprintable names. I also informed her parents about her waywardness. “I make sure that I provide for her and my three children. For the sake of the children, please don’t separate us." However, Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of the court, dissolved the marriage citing threat to life as the reason. Opeyemi was awarded custody of the three children and Olawale was ordered to pay N15,000 as monthly feeding allowance for the children in addition to being responsible for their education and other welfare. Eating spicy meals and most especially hot chilli pepper may not be your favourite food choice because of the burning sensation, however, it can save your life. A new study has revealed that a diet that includes chillies could help lower the risk of heart disease, so start firing up your pepper intake. According to the study which was published in the latest issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, people who consume chilli pepper on a regular basis have a reduced mortality risk by 23 per cent compared to those who do not. The research examined 22,811 citizens of the Molise region in Italy, studying their health status for an average period of eight years, and compared it with their eating habits. The researchers observed that in people regularly consuming chilli pepper (four times a week or more), the risk of dying of a heart attack was cut down by 40 per cent. Licia Iacoviello, Director of the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention at the I.R.C.C.S. Neuromed and Professor of Hygiene and Public Health at the Università dell' Insubria of Varese had this to say about the study. "Over the centuries, beneficial properties of all kinds have been associated with its consumption, mostly on the basis of anecdotes or traditions, if not magic. It is important now that research deals with it in a serious way, providing rigour and scientific evidence. And now we know that the various plants of the capsicum species, although consumed in different ways throughout the world, can exert a protective action towards our health." In case you don't know, a countless number of animals are being pushed to the edge of extinction thanks to the rising human population, climate change, habitat destruction, hunting and over-exploitation of wildlife. Scientists estimate that species have been disappearing at nearly 1,000 times the natural rate, meaning we are losing around 150-200 species every single day. In this article, we have listed some animals your children may not have the opportunity to see before they go into extinction according to Appropriate Living. 1. Leatherback Turtle Leatherback turtles are listed as endangered on the Species at Risk List in Canada and are on the Endangered Species List in the United States. It is estimated that there are 34,000 nesting females in the wild (compared to 115,000 nesting females in 1980) and that the greatest threat to this species of sea turtle is by commercial fisheries and marine contamination. 2. Polar Bear Some experts estimate that polar bears will be extinct within 100 years. Climate change, loss of habitat and oil development have contributed to their decline. Global warming has done a number on polar bears' habitats recently. In fact, the World Wide Fund for Nature (or WWF) estimates that there are only 22,000 to 31,000 polar bears left in the world 3. Siberian Tiger Siberian tigers are the world's largest cats. There are an estimated 400 to 500 residing in eastern Russia and the bordering regions. 4. Red Wolf The red wolves were on the verge of extinction with only about 17 left some thirty years ago. They had to be placed in captivity to ensure their survival. Since that time, their numbers have risen to about 100 although they still face dangers from deforestation. 5. Western Gorilla Before 2050, experts believe the Western Gorilla population will be reduced by more than 80%. The western lowland gorilla is the most widespread and numerous of the four gorilla subspecies. No accurate estimates of their numbers are possible, as these elusive apes inhabit some of Africa's densest and most remote rainforests. However, the total population is thought to number up to 100,000 individuals. 6. Sumatran Orangutan The population of Sumatran Orangutans have declined more than 80% in the last 75 years. A century ago, there were probably more than 230,000 orangutans in total, but the Bornean orangutan is now estimated at about 104,700 based on an updated geographic range (Endangered) and the Sumatran about 7,500 (Critically Endangered). 7. Black Rhino Rhinos are one of the oldest groups of mammals, virtually living fossils. As recently as 1970, an estimated 65,000 black rhinos could be found throughout sub-Saharan Africa. But in eastern Africa, 90 percent of them were killed in the 1970s. Now there are fewer than 2,500 left, in pockets in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania. 8. Sifaka As of 2008, there were an estimated 250 elderly individuals in life. The Coquerel's sifaka is in danger of extinction in the wild. These animals suffer from continued habitat loss, as their forest homes are logged for timber and turned into farmland. John Henderson, aged 106 and Charlotte Curtis aged 105 are officially recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records as the world's oldest couple and will on December 22, 2019, celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary, and 85 years after sitting in a zoology class in 1934. John and Charlotte married in a tiny ceremony with only two guests present on Dec. 22, 1939 and during their honeymoon in San Antonio, they stayed at a hotel that cost $7 a night. Even though they known each other for 85 years, they have been married only for 80, meaning the record for the longest marriage according to Guinness World Records, belongs to Zelmyra and Herbert Fisher, who wed at the ages of 17 and 19, respectively, and were married for 86 years and 290 days before Herbert’s death in 2011. Speaking to Washington post on Sunday, John Henderson said; “it took her five years to make up her mind that she wanted to get married,” Speaking about the first time he got a radio, John said; “And I well-remember that long antenna. They had to put it up from the front yard to the backyard to receive a radio show,” he said. He recalls renting a room while in the University of Texas in the early 1930s across the street from the Gregory Gym, one of the few historical buildings remaining on the campus. “The neighbors next door had a cow and chickens. You can imagine today a cow and chicken house across the street from Gregory, where the campus is so large now you wouldn’t recognize hardly anything,” John said. “I thought he was just a fine fella, and I didn’t mind his looking over my shoulder,” Charlotte told The Washington Post, remembering the first time she saw John in a Zoology class in front of John while he made passes at her. The pair have been lauded by many for their long, milestone-filled life together. Source: https://www.denland.site/2019/12/worlds-oldest-couple-aged-105-106-set.html

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has disclosed that he never saw himself as a politician until 2018 even though he held public offices for over a decade. The Lagos State Governor made the disclosure on Thursday December 12, at a lecture he delivered at the 3rd Alumni Lecture of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association which was held at the University campus. He said; “I saw myself purely as a professional – a technocrat- in politics and public service. "The opportunity to run as governor was a bigger responsibility than anything I had ever done, and, and unlike everything before, not a role to which I could be simply appointed. I can say that it was at that point that I became a politician”. Source: https://www.denland.site/2019/12/i-never-saw-myself-as-politician-until.html

December is upon us, yayyyy! We're excited and we know you are too. After all, December is the perfect time to travel to the villa/city and meet with your long-lost relatives. December trips are mostly planned ahead and are usually sweeter when you aren't traveling alone. If you are close to your cousins and other family members, you will start hearing things like "how far, you dey go villa?" "We go meet for PH, make we go flex this December". Even your nieces and nephews will not let you rest " aunty, please buy chocolate when coming", "uncle, I want video game". Because this period is 'the rush period', prices of tickets and bus fares have all shot up and, to be honest, we all know the economy is not smiling right now, many will not be able to travel by air. There will also be a higher rate of accidents and kidnappings on the road because many people will be traveling a lot this period and at the same time too. Anyway, if you are traveling this December, you need to take certain safety measure. This December, it doesn't pay to do odeshi and feel nothing can happen to you. The Kaduna-Abuja road is still very much the operation route of many kidnappers, so if you can, avoid that road. If your Assistant Commissioner of Police can be kidnapped on his way to Jos, Plateau state and allegedly rescued after paying the kidnappers 50million naira, then who are you? Let's all be wise, shall we? So are you traveling? Follow these safety tips: 1.Get spare car tools One of the worst things that can happen to you while traveling is to run out of fuel or have a flat tire in a dangerous or quiet area. Ensure you have everything that will make your car function well; a spare tire, a full tank, tire jack, a warning triangle, etc. so that once your car starts to misbehave, you can quickly fix it back. 2. Pack enough to eat and drink There's currently a heat-wave in the country, so you need to get enough water packed. If you can, never stop on the road to buy things to eat, this will make your journey faster and less prone to kidnapping or robbery. If you must ease yourself, it is advisable not to do so by the roadside or inside the bush. As a matter of fact, don't do it at all at all . Nigeria is already the second country in the world with the worst open-defecation case, don't add to it, biko. Drive into a restaurant or hotel and request to use their restroom. You should also have a first-aid box in your car, just in case of emergencies. 3. Avoid night journey For those who are traveling from the North to the West and vice versa, we know night journeys are usually sweeter - free road and all. But with the current security condition of the country and the many large potholes sleeping majestically on Nigerian roads, don't try it. It is better to travel during the day where you fit see front wella. 4. Obey traffic rules and observe car safety measures If you are driving with your little kids, then you know they shouldn't sit in front, right? You also know that you need to make use of your seat-belt, right? All these things look like they do not really mean, but they are highly important. Ensure you put your baby carrier in the right position, don't speed off when the light shows red because you think no car is driving in the opposite direction. Obey traffic rules, have your complete car documents and you'll be fine. 5. Over-speeding Don't roll your eyes, we know you've heard it a million times. Anyway, we will still talk! For those of you that will be driving on a 'free' road, meet up with a fellow driver on the road (someone you don't even know), nod to each other and start a driving competition on who can be the fastest driver, we see you. Keep playing Asphalt 8 with your life! Some people do 'driving competitions' with fellow drivers on the road. One lady shared on social media how she used to over-speed until one guy drove up to her and said: "I pity your mother". With the many potholes on the road now, it's better to drive carefully. This December, don't kill yasefbefore you eat Christmas chicken, drive gently - you will still reach your destination laslas. 6. Use one eye to watch out for SARS This might sound funny, but if you know what's good for you, better watch out for SARS while driving. This December is also their time to shine and look for who to harass and extort, so if you see them moving in one direction, swerve to the other direction before they'll collect all the money you want to use for Detty December. 7. Book your bus ahead Don't wait until the day of your travel before you do your bookings. Many transport companies now make it easy for you to book your bus earlier, especially through the internet to avoid rushing. There's no 2 minutes wait and get passport when it comes to traveling. Do your bookings now. Don't gamble with your life, stay safe and enjoy this season. Source: https://www.denland.site/2019/12/7-safety-tips-for-your-december-road.html

3-year-old toddler’s life has been saved by a ‘baby shark’ toy in her room.
