ABUJA – DEPUTY Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yussuf, yesterday said that there will be no amount of pressure that would make him resign his position as the Deputy Speaker.Fielding question from journalists in Abuja yesterday, on the alleged pressure on him to step down from his position by some All Progressives Congress, APC, Chieftains, following the controversy trailing the election of the presiding officers of the 8th assembly, Hon. Yussuf said his election followed due process, hence, there was no way he would ever contemplate to resign. Some of the APC Chieftains it was gathered had wanted him to step down for Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the choice of the party who had lost the Speakership seat to Hon. Dogara for the Deputy position. Describing the alleged pressure to resign as speculations, he said, “why will I resign, I went through an election.” He also explained that the speculation that the National Assembly takes a good chunk of the national budget, was unfounded, noting that out of the previous budgetary allocation of N150 billion, only N120 billion was budgeted in the Besides, he said that from the budget, the aides of the Senators and House of Representatives members, technocrats and their staff as well as the staff of the National Assembly Commission are paid appropriation. Besides, he said that from the budget, the aides of the Senators and House of Representatives members, technocrats and their staff as well as the staff of the National Assembly Commission are paid. He said, “when you talk about salary, it has to be tied to something. Let me tell you this, for the last three years with the exception of 2015, the budget of the national Assembly has been N150 billion and that is exactly 2.67 percent of the total budget of the federation. “So, I don’t know where people see this to say it is 25 percent of the budget of the National Assembly. The budget of the National Assembly is 2.6 percent of the entire budget of the country and so it is not overblown. “And people have forgotten too that there are 469 members of the National Assembly with each of the member with five aides that would be paid from the N150 billion. “We have the National Assembly technocrats and their staffers and the National Assembly commission – all of them earn their salaries and allowances from these N150 billion. “So, when people talk they always think that it is the House of Representatives members and senators that collect the N150 billion. And again don’t forget that for 2015 budget, the money has been reduced to N120 billion. “So, when you do the calculation, that is why the Dogara speakership in the last one week has repeatedly said, he is going to do a needs assessment, that he is going to engage development partners to actually sit down and see what it takes for the national Assembly to be run as an arm of government. “And you might be surprised that we have reasons for doing that because we can compare with other legislative bodies all over the world but it is not going to come from us, it is going to come from the body that would sit on the issue.” http://linkis.com/www.vanguardngr.com/LzzJY |

The euphoria that greeted the emergence of senate president, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu seem to have died down already. Reality seem to have set in as legislative business commences. I Already, the aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) senators also known as Senate Unity Forum, who didn’t support Saraki, has demanded the immediate resignation of Ekweremadu, as part of conditions that they say would make them recognise Saraki as the senate president. Although their demands have been rebuffed by their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterparts, there are fears that if the APC senators resolve their differences, the deputy senate president might be shown the way out. Naij.com analyses why the pair of Saraki and Ekweremadu might be history sooner or later. Read below: 1. Saraki Cannot Be Trusted: The senate president is an ambitious politician. Of course, it is not a crime to be ambitious, but Saraki’s ambition might make him dump his political ally on the way side. The former governor of Kwara state has never hidden his ambition to emerge as the senate president even immediately after he was elected into the upper chamber. He challenged former senate president, David Mark to the position at some point. Saraki, under pressure from his APC colleagues, is capable of sacrificing Ekweremadu in order to retain his seat. 2. APC Might Unite Again: There is every possibility that the APC senators might find a common ground and unite for the sake of their party. If this scenario occurs, this will leave Ekweremadu in a difficult position. As the APC senators might push for his removal and Saraki will be left with no choice. 3. PDP Lack The Numbers: If the APC succeeds in rallying behind Saraki, the PDP might not be able to resist the forceful removal of Saraki. This is because they lack the numbers to challenge their APC counterparts if the contest boils down to head count. 4. The “Banana Peel” Factor: Banana peel is a word that was prominent in the Nigerian political lexicon from the year 1999 to 2007. This was because in-between those years, Nigeria had five senate presidents. The proverbial banana peel is a trap by opposition figures in the upper chamber to put their target in a tight position and ultimately cause his sack. The APC senators might adopt this strategy to oust Ekweremadu. 5. PDP In-fighting: The PDP is known for its internal squabbles. The party and infighting are like Siamese twins. The internal crisis of the party is what brought the party to its present state as Nigeria’s opposition party. The PDP have to be firm and supportive of Ekweremadu because any external penetration in their midst will put the deputy senate president’s job on the line. The senators have to wade off any attempt to cause confusion in their party. http://www.naij.com/462533-5-reasons-why-the-saraki-and-ekwremadu-partnership-wont-last.html |

Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to complete Enugu International Airport, the second Niger Bridge and rehabilitate dilapidated federal roads in the South East zone. The youths also urged the President to appoint a former governor of Abia State, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onu as secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, ex-governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi as his Chief of Staff and Dr Chris Ngige as the Minister of Health. The group said the appeal for the appointment of these three men was based on the fact that they are patriots capable of helping Buhari achieve his visions for the nation. National President of the group Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro made the appeal while speaking in Aba over the weekend. They also called on Buhari to implement the recommendations of the National Conference, including the creation of an additional state in the South East, to make it at par with others. “We are appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to complete Enugu International Airport to make it a true international airport which can compare with others across the globe. “We also want him to complete the second Niger Bridge, rehabilitate federal roads in the South East zone and implement the decisions of the confab, particularly the creation of additional state in the South East,” Isiguzoro said. Mr President is working, the boys morale are high, no more attacks in adamawa state, Yobe now will soon die down. Borno will be the final showdown. Boko haram will be wipe off sooner than expected |
Four hunters and several Boko Haram militants were killed early yesterday when the militants attacked Babbangida, headquarters of Tarmowa LGA of Yobe State. Daily Trust gathered that the militants stormed the town around 6:00am, shooting, burning government buildings and burning several shops. A security officer told our correspondent that the attack came after an earlier offensive against the militants at their hideout close to Sassawa village, a border village between Damaturu and Tarmowa. “We carried out an earlier offensive attack on the militants’ base on a tip-off, so the Tarmowa attack may have been a reprisal” he said. A hunter said they lost four men in the encounter but overcame the militants. “We engaged the terrorists kilometres away from Babbangida town but the damage to property is huge. We lost four men but many of them were killed. My close friend Garba Baduku is among the four”, he said. Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Samaila Mai Adamu, confirmed the attack, saying many buildings were set ablaze. “We all scampered for safety. The LGA secretariat and DPO’s house are among places burnt”, a resident, Malam Yale Babbangida, said. He said the insurgents were sighted by villagers from the eastern part of the town. “We reported the matter to security operatives. Many residents have fled”, he added. http://dailytrust.com.ng/daily/index.php/news-menu/news/57195-4-hunters-many-b-haram-militants-killed-in-yobe |
HenryThegreat1:the truth is Tinubu is still far reliable than Atiku and co, and to your question, he is a leader I respect a lot. |
HenryThegreat1:Lawan was never is candidate, Femi was! He only wanted Lawan in so as to free the speaker slot to southwest beside he knows Saraki is not to be trusted. |
HenryThegreat1:Bola Tinubu is still the most reliable man PMB can rely on compare to Atiku Abubakar. He keeps to his word and always want the best for the party. I agree atimes he goes to extreme and interfere in some issues he isn't supos to dabble into |
