PoliticsIs Buhari Being Slow Or Being Careful? Your Opinion Pls by dayo23(op): 11:17am On Jun 20, 2015
Many of those who gave President Muhammadu Buhari no chance of winning the March 28 presidential election are on a daily watch for where he will falter so they will yell, “Yes, we said it”.

Already, those in this group are worrying themselves sore over the non-constitution of the Federal Executive Council (the federal cabinet). The murmuring in the closets are getting louder on the streets about why more than three weeks after, the Buhari-led government is yet running without ministers, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation etc. etc. The PDP megaphones are already making a song and dance over how unprepared and inexperienced the APC is for governance. Already, some people are  lapping up the comment by Mr President in South Africa, that at 72, there is a limit to what he can do, to mean that he lacks the capacity for either quick actions or overall poor performance altogether. Even within the APC, many of the politicians eyeing one position or the other, in accordance with the old order, are already pushing media pressure to so-to-say, stampede President Buhari into announcing his cabinet and making more appointments; after all, that is  how they will have access to the famous national cake. But with the interview granted Arise TV News early in the week, those baying for the ministerial appointment list will have to wait a little longer since Mr President has declared that he is not in a hurry to make the appointments. The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, cleared some of the fog surrounding the said appointments when he explained that not only is Mr President doing a thorough check on the calibre of persons he will appoint, but also that he will indeed look beyond the APC to fill up his cabinet. But those who think the president can be a little faster in his said checks, argue that ever since he knew he will form the government since March 28, he ought to have fished wide enough for suitable persons, after all, he is believed to have developed a governance template long before now.

And pray, will the president also look beyond the party to name his SGF, Chief of Staff and all such other inner-circle appointees? Why have such appointments not been made? It is perhaps even more confounding to party chieftains as everybody is left guessing what the president will do. It is said that he has kept the list to his chest like an infant clutching his new toy. Not even the said top-rank chieftains of the party know their fate as far as the list is concerned. It is said that everybody who comes to make any suggestion of what to do and how to do it, only gets a “Thank You” from the taciturn president. Buhari has managed to present an image of an unusual politician. Like Teflon, he has been able to wash-off all the pressure on him. And Nigerians are eagerly waiting to see those who will make the cabinet. Those who think Buhari is slow fear that it might turn out to be like a young lady who is so selective of suitors and ends up marrying a deformed crook. Such people who believe the President can expedite action in his consultations argue that too much discussion brings confusion noting that it is such indecision of where to go that created the crisis in the National Assembly because for too long, the APC was neither here nor there in what position it will take in the leadership of the National Assembly . Not even Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso’s warning could jolt the APC up from its inertia. On the other hand, those who believe Buhari can take all his time to sift all the chaff from the wheat note that it is the deference to such pressure that often threw up people who aggregated bad name for a government as they help to devalue the government by the way they conduct the affairs of their offices. Many of such ministers whose first loyalty is to the godfathers who brought them into the cabinet, end up serving other interests other than the overall interest of the Nigerian nation. All said, President Buhari must draw a balance between his microscopic scrutiny of his nominees, and the need to urgently rev the engine of governance by putting his cabinet in place. The nation in in dire thirst for action given the plundering that it had suffered in the past.

Vanguard has never been a credible source of news.
To what purpose would a newspaper apology serve and how would it be addressed:"we apologize for going against the national leader" etc and that's that?
This is another poorly concocted lie that vanguard and some online news media have been known for of recent.
Maybe due to the social and online news media and the need to publish news items in record time, some mainstream media no longer conduct any form of investigation and verification before rushing to press.

PoliticsTinubu Demands Apology From Saraki, Dogara On National Dailies - Vanguard by dayo23(op): 10:57am On Jun 20, 2015
Although some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC have initiated moves to reconcile the aggrieved camps and bring back peace in the party, its national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is not yielding to it until his conditions are met.

Vanguard exclusively gathered yesterday that Tinubu who felt greatly slighted by the elections of Senator Bukola Saraki and Rep. Yakubu Dogara as the senate president and the Speaker, House of Representatives respectively against the party’s official candidates, Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabimila had said of what can assuage his anger and that of the party.

A competent party source told Vanguard in Abuja that principal among the conditions is that both Saraki and Dogara must tender and publish a full page apology publicly using the national dailies.

To this end, the source hinted that an extended meeting of the national leaders of the party with APC governors involved had been slated for next week.

The meeting, it was learnt, would hold either Monday or Tuesday.

“You don’t joke with the man (Tinubu). He said they must make a public apology to him using the newspapers. A meeting that will involve all APC governors has been scheduled to hold either on Monday or Tuesday. Wait and see what will happen. They have to do it”, the source said.
It was not ascertained whether president Mohmmadu Buhari would be at the meeting but Saraki and Dogara are expected to be at the meeting.
It will be recalled that after the National Assembly leadership that brought Saraki and Dogara as the new leaders of the 8th assembly, tempers have continued to flare up in the party.

Upon their elections on June 9, APC immediately issued a statement where it declared the outcome of the elections unacceptable and also threatened sanctions for the new leaders.

The threat however divided the party with some of the national leaders frowning at the decision.
One of the them was the deputy national publicity secretary, comrade Timi Frank who also called for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, chief John Oyegun on the grounds of his failure to harmonize the variegated interests that later cost the party the office of the Deputy Senate President, DSP.

According to Frank, Oyegun compromised to have agreed to conduct the mock election that threw up Lawan and Gbajabimila as official candidates of the party.

Meanwhile, national chairman of the party, Oyegun has assured Nigerians that peace was underway in the party.

Rising from the meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC which held at party’s national secretariat in Abuja yesterday, the chairman said that the party had reached out to all aggrieved parties, stressing that Nigerians would see a united APC by next week.

He also marshalled out defence for the party’s national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who he said had been misunderstood in some quarters while discharging his responsibilities.

There is no need to do further research , you are the one full of insinuations .... I don't hate Tinubu , he is the man that eject professionalism into Nigerian Political landscape but if Tinubu is preaching change .... the people of Nigeria need to ascertain whether Tinubu wanted to change Nigeria ni or he wanted to just change PDP.

Tinubu can't force candidates on the NASS the way PDP used to do and be preaching change ..........

The fact was :

APC members nominated Ali Ndume and they all voted for him while PDP members nominated Ekweremadu as PDP members were more on the floor, they voted Ekweremadu and he emerged the winner.

If all APC members were to converge at the ICC, the PDP members would have formed a quorum which requires just 38 members out of 49 PDP members and David Mark would have been elected unopposed ..... it is just a convention that the party with the majority members become the SP, it is not backed by the Constitution.

Buhari has abided by rule of law to allow NASS chose their leaders without interference as constitutionally required but Tinubu wanted to force candidates on the house .....

The Constitution state that NASS members should elect their principal leaders from among themselves and Buhari has complied , there is no section which provided for Tinubu or APC as a party to nominate consensus candidate for the NASS .....

why can't Tinubu and other APC leaders come out and explicitly make it clear that ty are not going to interfere in the leadership election of the NASS as Buhari did.

You can't preach change and stand to do it same way as being done before.
Buhari supported Saraki who told you that? Not interfering doesn't mean he was insupport, beside Lawan was never tinubu's choice Akume was, Lawan was party choice. Atiku was the one that plan the coup and he with saraki will surely pay for that. Just watch as event unfold, Tinubu has always been an opposition, he perfectly knows how to play the game

PoliticsReward Amaechi’s Courageous Support, Northern Community Tells Buhari by dayo23(op): 11:20am On Jun 19, 2015
PORT HARCOURT – Northern community in the South South has called on President Muhamadu Buhari to adequately reward former governor Chibuike Amaechi for the role he played in making him President of the country.
Speaking at the end of a meeting of the body yesterday in Port Harcourt, Chairman of the northern community in the South south, Alhaji Muhamadu Ali-Kwande lauded former governor Amaechi, describing him as one of the few courageous and transparent Nigerians President Buhari should have around him in government.
Alhaji Ali-Kwande recalled that Amaechi stood firmly behind Buhari during the presidential race to the point that people from his South south region called him all sort of names.
Continuing, he said it was now time for President Buhari to genuinely reward a man who gave him all the support even at the risk of his life,
“Amaechi almost lost his life because of his support for Buhari , he stood his ground for Buhari. He said he was supporting an Hausa man because of what past Hausa Presidents have done for the state. He said the former President did not do anything for the state so he will not support him.
Now it is the turn of Buhari to reciprocate. We thank Amaechi. And I believe that Buhari can’t forget Amaechi. “, he said.
Alhaji Ali-Kwande said some northerners voted for Buhari because of the support they saw Amaechi giving him.
Fielding questions from newsmen on the nature of responsibility he wanted President Buhari to assign Amaechi Ali-Kwande said it was a decision that the President was in a better position to take.
“Buhari knows Amaechi more than me. I leave President Buhari to know what to do with Amaechi. God helped Amaechi for Buhari to succeed. You can imagine how it would have been for Amaechi if Buhari had not won the election.
Buhari should take care of Amaechi very well.
Even some people in the north identified with Buhari because of Amaechi.”, he said.

PoliticsRe: I Met An Empty Treasury, Says Wike by dayo23(f): 6:38am On Jun 19, 2015
lolaxavier:
THE Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said that contrary to the claims by the immediate past administration that it left N7bn in the state coffers, he met an empty treasury.

Wike explained that the treasury where the monthly Federal Allocation accruing to the state was always kept had remained in debit as at May 29 when he (governor) took over the reins of governance in the state.

The governor made this remark on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and officials of Julius Berger and a Chinese Construction firm, CCECC, for the rehabilitation of 33 kilometres of township roads in the state capital.

He stated that from the brief he received from the state Accountant General after his inauguration, only one revenue account with Sterling Bank had some funds left by the immediate past administration.

Wike said, “I want to say on good authority that we did not meet any N7bn, as being speculated. The state’s FAAC account as at May 29 (2015) was in debit. That was the briefing I received from the Accountant-General.”

Signing the MoU with the two construction giants, Wike explained that the step was to realise his administration zero potholes programme launched on May 29, 2015.

According to the governor, while Julius Berger is to handle the rehabilitation of 11 kilometres of township roads alongside street lights and traffic lights, the CCECC will handle 20 kilometres of township roads in Port Harcourt.

He explained that the state government had resolved to work with the construction giants to rebuild road infrastructure in the state capital. He added that the revival of facilities in the state capital was beyond political consideration.

Wike noted that the funds for the ‘Operation Zero Potholes’ had been set aside, hence the signing of the MoU to ensure that the companies concluded work in 120 days.

He, however, promised to personally monitor the execution of the projects by the construction giants.

Wike explained that his administration had resolved to take the N10bn loan with specific focus on key projects to be implemented, noting that the request to the state House of Assembly was accompanied by all the projects to be executed.
