That characterization was way overboard and uncalled for.
But I havent seen the condemnation for the Awolowos the way you were so ready to crucify Tinubu for responding in a similar manner

You were silent on the initial attack but pounced on Tinubu for responding or am I missing something?

Quite apart from the premature usage of the term felon this Tribune article is actually factual.

since you claim to be yoruba -since when did exchanging words with elders become a yoruba trait.?
tinubu should cultivate iwa pele. the correct thing to do is to ignore them. this adventure is not likely to be profitable politically. that should be the main consideration of a man who sees tomorrow.
when feuds like this proliferate it seldom matters who is right but the consequences are unpreditable
And since when did it become a trait of Yoruba elders to act like Agbaya? Its the Yorubas that say when an elder ties corn to his waist he becomes the playmates of elders

When you see a old man going to play PS3 and insult teenagers then he is begging for some "arinfin"

Why should Tinubu be the one cultivating Iwa Pele and not the Awolowos cultivating decorum?

Tribune is not the fisrt media outlet to call Tinubu felon and B@5tard, and it will not be the last.
Well Tinubu chose to respond to the tribune specifically. Many ppl have been calling you names and you choose to respond to one of them Now you are asking why ? Whats the logic?

So why not attack Tribune instead. And leave the AWO family alone.
Tribune attacked Tinubu, The Nation attacked Awolowo. So I guess its equal and balanced, Now why is Tribune/Awolowo now the ones moaning?

@Dayokanu,you have to understand that tribune as it is today aligns itself with the folks in PDP,while the nation newspaper is the megaphone of tinubu and the AC.While the PDP reigned supreme in the southwest, the nation newspaper was consistently used to sway public opinion against them, malign their character and downplay some of the achievement recorded by their adminstration. Now the AC controls the southwest and tinubu is the leader of the AC.Tell me why wont tribune malign his character, knowing fully well that he is as dubious as those he has consistently criticised of corruption?
If its okay for tribune to malign Tinubus Character, Is it now wrong for Tinubu to reply Tribunes paymasters in like manner?

I dont understand how anyone will demonise a 95 year old woman in this manner, more importanantly the wife of Awo who is older than Tinubus grand mother even.  I am not a freat Awolowo fan but this attack on the Awo family is needless all because they associate with PDP.
Do you have a problem with someone demonising the name of Tinubu in the manner the tribune has always done?

Does Tinubu have a right to respond to such attacks in a like manner?

And dont be economical with the truth, When Tinubu was endlessly attacked by the Awolowos Tribune how come people dont have a problem with that

@Dayokanu,making reference to mama HID as Hiv is disrespectful and highly uncalled for.I strongly feel the old woman should be left out of the inordinate battle of some dubious politicians to control the political machinery of the south-west.

I can confidently tell you that all the newspapers in Nigeria have politicians as patrons,as such most of them have become the megaphone of these politicians.

What you are accusing tribune of doing has been done several times by the nation newspaper,so why pick on an old woman.

As for that ,that said mama HID has shamelessly refused to die,i can only say to you "destruction befalls arrogance and crass disrespect for elders"
Who is the patron of the tribune? Awolowo, Who is the head of the Awolowo family? If The Tinubu name can be attacked by the Awolowos mouthpiece, Why is the reverse now sacrilegious?

Show me anywhere the Nation has attacked the person of the owner of Tribune before the Omatseyes response.

Point of correction, the Awos did not call Tinubu a ba*tard. Tribune did.
Tinubu did not insult Awolowo The Nation did.

If one is to follow Tinubu's logic in his own response he does not imput to the Awos what Tribune writes just as he does not write what appears in his own newspaper- the Nation.
Furthermore, the Ibadan-based newspaper, Tribune has shown why/how/on what basis he is qualified to be a ba*tard:
Maybe they should ask Alhaja Mogaji who are children are and not throw around irresponsible words which the founder would be ashamed of

Since Tinubu has more to lose he should stomach attacks on his person by a Family name that is so respected in this country. Maybe if it were to be a non-entity he wouldnt have responded but since it was a reverred name its shocking that such uncouth and gutter language could be coming from them

I am sure if the Sage was alive and his wife or children displayed such irresponsible behaviour which every Yoruba person should be ashamed of, He would have openly flogged the child or probably divorced the wife

Tinubu has 5 states under control the HID and Olu Awolowos dont have any.

Maybe you are right the Awolowos need sensational topics in the Tribune to sell and save it from imminent collapse of the newspaper

[quote author=isale_gan2 link=topic=690632.msg8524849#msg8524849 date=1308155249]The paper may not always have upheld its former glory, but I thought the piece (linked on page 1) on Tinubu's ineligibility to be Asiwaju of Yorubaland was excellent.  Other than calling Tinubu a "felon" (don't you have to be convicted of a felony to EARN that title?) the entire thing was on-point!

As someone said a few days ago, the mode to which his power will diminish is in his own hands.  He went too far, and this is the beginning of the end.  Thankfully, Lagos and the SW will be better for it.

Sacking Omatseye proves nothing.  Since there is no honour among thieves, the writer/errand boy was always going to be sacrificed when the heat became unbearable for the puppet-master.

naijababe:
DK

Why did Tinubu feel that he had to respond to a discredited newspaper? As far as I am concerned, silence truly can be golden. I am not exonerating Mama HID or Oluwole Awolowo.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo remains an icon to us all and will remain so for some years to come. Anything reference to him or his name will always generate reactions. The only thing this article acheived polarisation of the Yorubas and Tinubu certainly should know he cannot afford that.
Tinubu is not responding to a newspaper, He is responding to the brains behind the newspaper which unfortunately bears the name most of us respects

Simple Wuestion: If An Awolowo calls Tinubu unprintable names on pages of Newspaper, Does Tinubu have the right to respond or not and the response in a similar manner to the initial attack?

Tribune's RESPONSE

Also in the letter under reference, Chief Tinubu stated as follows: “It is common knowledge that the Tribune, almost everyday, demonises my person. But should I claim that Mama, as the publisher of the Tribune, was behind the attack?’’

This statement did not address the questions whether the stories published in the Tribune represented factual accounts of activities in which he was alleged to have been engaged or were false stories meant to discredit his personality. To the best of our knowledge, none of the stories published on Chief Tinubu so far in the paper has been proved to be false.

This is the Tribune we are talking about here! Any self respecting person know not to read that paper, let alone take whatever crap they write seriously.  That Tinubu felt that he had to respond is not what I have a problem with, it is his response. Omatseye did not do Tinubu any favours by what he wrote.
If you have a problem with Tinubus response, I would think you would have an issue with Awolowos attack?

or what gives the right to Awolowos to attack Tinubu and not expect an appropriate response.

NB: On one side you blamed Tribune, On the other side you left The Nation, Left Omatseye and faced Tinubu. Just curious why this is so?

Do you now agree that Awolowos sponsored the attacks on Tinubu? If the tribune is not worth responding to are you also saying the Awolowos are not worth responding to?

Naijababe,

What I ask is this whats your own take on the never ending attacks on Tinubu by the tribune magazine

If you blame Tinubu for Omatseyes write up then i can also say the Awolowos were responsible for the attacks on Tinubu. Right?

If that is right, What is now wrong in responding to incessant attacks in a like manner?
