Politics › Re: IGP Adamu, Mahmood Yakubu, Teargassed In Lokoja by dbestuncle: 7:10pm On Nov 12, 2019 |
oshozondii: .. Accord signing goes rowdy over alleged intimidation
Dignitaries, including the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, along with National Commissioners of the INEC were on Tuesday teargassed while policemen were trying to put down an uproar.
The stakeholders’ meeting/signing of peace accord among political parties and candidates, organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with senior police officers and loads of their well-armed men on standby, was almost disrupted when those suspected to be thugs of the ruling party, used force to prevent the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Natasha Akpoti, from entering the venue of the event.
It was a rowdy situation for close to twenty minutes at the main entrance of the event’s venue, where the two groups (those who wanted to bring the candidate in and those trying to prevent her entrance) struggled to gain control of the entrance.
However, as neither of the two groups yielded ground and would not listen to entreaties from security agents, policemen on guard duty fired a couple of teargas cans to disperse the contending groups, at the door. The effect of the teargas spread into the event’s hall, affecting all occupants, including the IGP, who was seen covering his nose.
However, while the fight was on and the whole place was in commotion, the INEC continued with the business of conducting the peace accord signing, to which 17 political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition parties, led by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Trying to give a background to the rowdiness, the spokesman to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, explained that Akpoti arrived late to the event, as it was well into its conduct when the fight outside the door started.
He however condemned the attack on the candidate, whose candidacy was recently affirmed by a court.
“We are inside the hall and wouldn’t know what is going on outside. One thing is sure: she did not arrive in good time as at the time the event started, but that is not enough reason for anybody to prevent her from coming inside. She has a right to take her place inside the hall.
“We have heard that she is outside and efforts are currently being made to bring her inside the hall. We need her to sign the Peace Accord, the process of which is currently on.
“We asked the Legal Officer of our Kogi State Office to go outside the hall and look for Natasha Akpoti, but he came back and reported that he searched the entire premises but could neither locate her nor her entourage.
“Now, the representative of the SDP inside the hall was asked to endorse the Peace Accord, but he refused,” Oyekanmi explained.
Meanwhile, candidates of opposition political parties have raised the alarm over what they described as continued intimidation and oppression of their chieftains and members.
Governorship candidate of the PDP, Engr. Musa Wada, while speaking at the event demanded that the Inspector-General of Police to intervene in the plight of the opposition in Kogi state, saying their members are afraid for their lives.

Ribadu who disclosed this in his presentation on anti-corruption and good governance at a two-day retreat for commissioner-designates, special assistants, and permanent secretaries in Gombe state on Monday November 4, added that President Buhari's administration has nipped corruption in the oil sector.

The severance package is calculated as the staff's salary at the time of retiring/resignation multiplied by the number of years put into service. At the time of my employment, I was placed on a salary scale of 63k (gross salary) and took 57k (net salary) after tax and pension deductions. I heard though that the salary may have been reviewed downwards in recent times. This new development is going to affect most, those who have put in long years in their service. Kindly, answer the following questions pls. 1. Pls Is this the same faith academy owned by living faith church with branches all over Nigeria? 2. Are ur staff unionized as expected by law. 3. what is the percentage taken for ur contributory pension for both the employee n employer side. pls note that a visit to the school may not be very helpful if we don't have facts n ur name or branch is not what I mean by fact. Gemid94: The Association of Indigenous Students of Kogi state on Friday, has appealed the state governor, Yahaya Bello to either pay the agreed bursary incentives or refund the N650 used to register for the scholarship scheme.
Recall a portal was launched by Kogi state government last year where Kogi state students nationwide applied for a bursary incentives at N650 per student as application fee.
However, it is over a year since students applied for the bursary but the Kogi state government never find it worthy to consider the payment of the bursary to the students who have taken to the social media to express their grievances over what they describe as negligence on the part of the former to meet the needs of the students.
According to reports, several government functionaries like the Chief of staff, Mr. Edward Onoja promised in last June that the bursary will be paid in July but nothing has been done in this regard.

remababy: Wada is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Kogi state governorship election scheduled for November 16.
According to the report, the leak of the photos has raised concerns within the PDP.
“This is embarrassing. Our governorship candidate and his deputy both sleeping at a public function that is a sign of bad omen and it is unacceptable,” an unnamed PDP chieftain. quoted in the report said.
Reacting to the photos, an All Progressives Congress stalwart interviewed by Vanguard said: “How can he and his deputy be seen sleeping at a two-hour event? They need to be mentally fit to think of wrestling power from Gov Yahaya Bello who has been going well with little resources.” Wada, a youngert brother to former governor Captain Idris Wada (rtd) will face incumbent and
APC candidate, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at the poll. Meanwhile, the Ebira People's Association has called for an “unflinching, undivided and unreserved support and solidarity” for the re-elezction bid of Governor Bello.

PoliticalWitch: Note for the senator
1.Oil is at $59 dollars per barrel today
2.We need oil to be at $140 per barrel before we can reduce taxes, and stop borrowing.(For the uninformed, see this article HERE)
3.Bubu is bad , I know....but the truth is, since he took office , oil has hovered between $75 and $30 per barrel. So borrowing has been in order to prevent total collapse.
4.Also, we have no choice in this country but to raise taxes. Simple.
5.I want APC out too. But whoever takes over is going to meet the same set of problems. The problem of getting money.
6. So, let's face the cold reality. Sorry APC has not been good at diversification like they promised.
