Jobs/Vacancies / Re: I Actually Flopped In My Micro Teaching Interview by dboY1123(m): 1:47pm On Aug 21, 2023
I don't want to teach again.. I realized I didn't flop at first, they didn't just low me calm my nerves and I don't want to teach again forever, only if I later own a school.

I was already flowing today with the students and even the students cannot tell me what chemistry is all about, they hardly could answer a question I asked. But there were two staff there who kept throwing questions at me, at least u let me flow first and settle myself.

He asked d first question, I answered it and even explained it, then in few minutes he threw another question, and another and trying to confuse me.
At some point I forgot the answer to his question and it wasn't like I don't know it. Next thing, in the front of the students I wasn't even allowed to take the topic I prepared for, I was still making revision when I noticed that they weren't responding to my questions just to pick them up.

Immediately they asked me to switch to Mathematics, and teach offhand like tf? I don't even know mathematics that much, and even if I'll teach it, it'll be with a lesson note or textbook to flow well.
One was asking me to take simultaneous offhand and I just told him, where should I get the question ? Cz I am not a math teacher.

When I noticed that the staff were already leaving I just carry myself and left jeje.

Afterall I can succeed without having to teach with their meagre salary. It might be a big school and they still wouldn't pay well.
I'm actually done.

You're a teacher , right ?

What about using an instructional material? Like if I want to teach Atomic Structure, I can simply draw if on the cardboard and show my students how it looks and explain from there?

Always pick easy n comfortable topics

See them as students and not supervisor when addressing them.

Practice at home using your siblings as your students. When teaching or addressing a crowd, you only need to focus on 1-2 persons initially to gather confidence and momentum

Arrange your delivery pattern, let it be sequential. It helps in organisation of your thought process, understanding and confidence built.

E.g Topic: Living Things
Definition
Classification of living things etc

You should be fine except you lied in your cv as a qualified teacher

Lie keh.. Why would I forge my CV? I just didn't prepare very well and so the fear of uncertainty

Buddy, shew a level of humble arrogance. Munch some bars of pride with subtle humility... See all of them as students... and constantly admit you're overly qualified.

Use blockades and distractions...find a song you like so much, keep it playing in your head!

Go beat the fear with courage... Practice every line before going, especially your introduction and start off line.

Start your class on a lighter note, probably a joke...and don't mind.

Lastly, the more you're inclined to winning the likely you are to panic. Don't give try to win, just do your best.

Thank you very much.. I think I'll be going there to play on Monday, trust me.
I mean with a lighter mood and just vibes while I make the class very interactive and fun.

I am.not taking anything serious anymore that was why I flopped.

You need to understand that the aim of micro teaching for an interview is not for you to prove your knowledge of a subject matter solely, but to show your proficiency in teaching. I would advise that you choose just one of these topics and perfect the art of teaching it. You should possibly work out some instructional materials for your students. For instance if your take is on acid, base and salt, you should consider making it a practical class. Set up your class with samples of acid base and salt and of course your litmus paper. Briefly discuss what acids and base are by their reaction on a litmus paper, then go ahead and ask your students to test the specimens before them with a litmus paper. Let them tell you their observation and conclusion based on the change on the litmus paper.... you should basically make your class interactive and practical- based.

Do not forget to clearly state your objectives before the actual teaching begins. For instance: At the end of class today, I expect you to know the properties of acids, base and salt and their reaction on a litmus paper.

Note that there is a paradigm shift in teaching today. You don't tell your students for them to know. You show them what you want to tell them for them to know. I hope this helps.

I think I flopped because I was facing panel of judges lol.. The anxiety of ' I must deliver'

What topic would you like to teach? If it's something I can demystify, I would break it down for you here using an activity-base approach.

I chose Atomic Structure, Chemical reactions and maybe if there's time, Acid base and salt

study well and long on Ur topic. Other topics as well. Big schools will switch Ur topic to a general field in Ur study area. Have a very grounded grasp and u won't need to feel uneasy Wen asked questions. The aura of confidence will get you the job and that comes from a grasp of knowledge. Good luck and all the best. Also, rather than avoid a question u have little knowledge about, make it a conversation or a discussion. If you can make everything open for discussion then you'll scale.

Please can you explain that last paragraph for me..if u can make everything open?

My previous post about a big school that called me for an Interview, Well I actually went there, did my test and when I was asked to come in for Micro Teaching where I was faced with Staff of the school and maybe the principal, I flopped and panicked heavily.

The fear was well written all over my face and I was just saying rubbish despite choosing to teach "Matter" as my topic. Immediately I came in and they asked for my name and few other questions before the micro teaching, my voice was already shaking as if I have never taught before in my life(they noticed and told me to calm down).

Although I am an introvert, I hardly face audience talk more of strangers and the quest to ensure that I performed, those things enveloped/swallowed me completely. I have never taught in such a big school before, I think my qualification was what made them approach me in the first place.

One of the staff kept throwing questions at me, I mean confusing questions just to know my depth of knowledge in the particular topic, and guess what? I flopped totally and became disorganized. But luckily, there was a man among the panel who gave me the option of coming back and prove myself that I am a qualified teacher as stated in my CV or I should take another topic I'm more comfortable with. So, I opted to leave and come back so I can regain my confidence.

Now, I have been given enough time to go and make research and convince them on Monday.
How do I conquer that fear and what are the things they look so I can prepare hard.
Thank you.

Dear young man, if it is a private school please don't go.

You'll end up being a shadow of yourself a few months into the job.

Better to stay at home and have peace and strategize from there. Except you want to experience the meaning of "a miserable life or smiling and suffering". Pity your mental health, my dear fellow.

Possible exception: part-time in a skilled subject like music or languages.

Enter the street and do the dirty work now. Private schools are confidential abyss for teachers.

Think of a private tutorial or home lessons if you love teaching.

I'm telling you this if you value your peace of mind.

Au revoir.

I am actually planning to start a Private tutorial, but I'm yet to fund it, like get the chairs and desks done..and also market it using templates, banner and flyers. Infact I got a white maker board already and I av a place I can start with.. Just those things I listed that remain..that is why I think I should work, gather money and sort myself.

And you can also give me idea on how I can start that private tutorial please sir..any idea is highly welcomed and appreciated.

How can it be applied in projectile?

Tho na lecturing job.

There is a school that called me for an interview today, and the interview is Wednesday. They have my CV and they are already aware of my discipline.

I studied Chemistry and I'm a fresh graduate, meaning I haven't been granting much interviews for me to have a prior knowledge of how and what questions would be set.

Please anybody who has done and dusted interviews in this aspect/subject should kindly give me few AOC of what might likely come out.
I really need this job at least to engage myself and I don't want to throw it out of the window.
Thank you very much.

Where did you get this from?
I am also a public secondary school teacher in Ogun state, and the last time i checked, the salary of principals in grade level 17 is around 350k to 400k.
And for your information, there are some principals in grade level 17 incase you don't know. Sometimes, it takes connection for principal to be in Permanent secretary, that's why you see grade level 17 still in principal level.
Next time, try and do your findings and know the truth before you come online and start bombarding people with false.

It depends on who you are as a person.

I'll give you reasons.

Govt. Job is stable( meaning you can't be fired) even when clearly incompetent. Are you competent?

Govt job pace is slow, relaxed and ultimately corrupt. Are you?

Govt job might give you chance to do other things must times at the expense of the students. Do you have another biz at the moment?

Govt job is shitty pay and is often delayed for years. Are you ok with this?

Private school.

Private school job is demanding and will test your competence. Are you competent in what you studied?

Private school job will take your weekends and evenings in most cases. Are you ready to do that extra work, esp when you know it'll benefit your student at your expense?

Private school job will be strict, require you to better yourself etc. Are you ready for that or you're done learning?

Private school job will pay well, on time and might never owe.

Ultimately, the decision is yours.

But as a private school teacher of over a decade, I can tell you it's rewarding especially when you're in the right place, right school, actively improving yourself and putting in the work.

As a private school teacher in Lagos, I currently earn more than professors in federal university and that's not all. I have developed myself, my competence and my knowledge(extra degrees and CPDs).

On the side, I currently charge 15k for a session of lesson(2hrs max) and do lessons almost everyday of the work week. And all these improvement happened within the past 5 years, the first 5 years was me playing around waiting for something better, not knowing that I can multiply what I had in my hands.

Decide what you want my guy.

Whichever path you decide, good luck to you.

Boss, please I need a Mentor like you that can guide me and put me through.
Take me as your child sir. I'll greatly be indebted to you. I studied education.
Can I av ur number sir?

While I was in school, I don't like to mingle with people, I just did my things as I wanted. I didn't share my stuffs, and I hardly ask for other people's opinion, or their material stuff.

I'm an introvert, but I have been trying to change because I don't like relating with people, sometimes if someone talks about me I could get angry and my words might be hurtful.

I need advice on how I can change myself to fit in the society, relate perfectly with people, associate with other people.
In church, I just go my way, I feel I could be doing other things in church but I feel I can't put myself out there even if I can do it well. I'm not that accommodating so I have limited friends just my old friends.
People might start to believe I am proud, and I don't really like it. I also don't accept criticism, but I'm not rude.
