Again I agree with u the the people are part of the problem. I never removed or exempted them from what has been bedeviling this country. The average Nigerian is a plague to himself and others which doesn’t do anyone any good simply because of his mindset!

The mindset is the problem of the average Nigerian on the street or on the internet like Nairaland. Most of what I read here makes me sad and sorry for this country bt I’m not discouraged maybe cos I believe change can be fast tracked with the right catalyst or trigger.

We are not the only multi religious country I believe or multiethnic bt one thing must be above all these differences at all times for things to work and thats why I said our systems are the solution. The people’s mentality must shift bt It is a huge task to shift 150 million people’s mindset, the other way around it wud be to conform them to strong systems irrespective of who u are. I still do not believe this is rocket science bt it won’t be easy bt can be done. And has to be done.

Waiting 50 years is like waiting for a natural sequence of generational change to hopefully change the mindset or the country’s make up or sheer luck. Lol

That is exactly what I am saying.
Qualitative leadership knows the capacity of a nation, understands the psyche of its people and acts accordingly.

Qualitative leadership then either strategizes around these perceived weaknesses to neutralize them or ensures these weaknesses are not tested by acting in this case to prevent this pandemic.

It is all about capacity. The leadership of this country simply does not understand this country and its people. That is failure.

Sorry, but Mr. President on whose seat the buck stops does not understand Nigeria. He does not know this country is largely informal without data structures. He doesn't know half live below the poverty line so cannot save for a rainy day making isolation imaterial....

Please we donot have a cerebral goverment. Too dull, too ignorant, always behind the curve and cannot find the way out of problems. These are the things the citizens vote for. They donot vote for people who will turn back and blame them for problems.

You donot go to a doctor to receive blame but cures for your ailment. When he starts to blame you know he has no cure but excuses.
It does not start and end with the president.

If you have a good President but;

70 percent of the legislators are bad.
70 percent of the governors are bad.
70 percent of the judiciary are bad.
70 percent of the party chieftains (APC and PDP) are bad.

Then the president can't do Jack!

Even if you go to heaven and being a President, he can't do Jack.

Not in a so called democracy anyway, Except it's a military regime or a monarchy.

Are we not talking about Lagos, Ogun and FCT? The most hungry Nigerians don't live in those states. They may be below the poverty line but surely not the most hungry. Besides most of them in those states have a smartphone or know someone who has.

For the poorest Nigerians who live in rural areas spread across the country, the PUs data from INEC can be used to locate such places and the village heads can be used to identify them per family. There's nothing that can't be done. It's about careful planning and the willpower to do it.
grin
The bolded, I like that part.

But I think even in Lagos, Ogun and FCT, 90 percent of those who really need help do not have smart phones.

Take Note;
I didn't say 90 percent of the people.
But 90 percent of those who really need food, those who don't have the means to have stocked up their freezers with food stuff.

Correct.

That's the institutions working.

You think we could get out dead institutions working in a minute?

See the police force for example;

Can this our police force be sanitised to be like LAPD or NYPD in another 10 years?

See a corrupt judiciary, inec, army, etc

Hmmm correct right institution and just like I said Systems.

Bt how long does it take to put right System/institutions in place is the big question??!!!

Not so long I believe for a country as old and even as diverse as Nigeria. Like I said earlier it’s not rocket science. The issue is starting the journey, we have not started. We are not on the part to good institutions yet.

Look at the Dubai model, Singapore etc... Transformation took place in less than 10/15 years. The right leadership at the end of the day is still needed to kickstart the process.

Change starts from the top. I believe. Check how most countries changed it was either from the top or a revolution from below which still changes the top and then flows back down to the bottom. Change is from the Top.
I believe that in Dubai there is more simplicity.

One predominant religion, language and culture.

There is nothing like my brother my brother politics. Or my brother my brother development.

So there are a lot of factors millitating against such fast development.

Even if we get a President that wants to work, I tell you if he goes there to work and refuses to share money and endorse corruption, his fellow leaders will work against him.

I quite agree that change must start from the top,

But I insist that we followers are not better than the leaders we so criticise.
You only need to be at a place like nairaland for a second to sense this.

For instance just within a few hours of closure of markets in Port Harcourt,

A certain quantity of tomatoes went from 500 naira to 2000.
A certain quantity of Garri went from 3000 to 8000.
A certain quantity of beef went from 1500 to 4500.

Fueling stations were still selling at 142 claiming they wanted to sell out their old stock before reducing to 128.
But if the fuel price ahead been raised to 160 they would have sold that old stock for 160 immediately.

There are hundreds of examples around us to show that we could be worse than our so called bad leaders.

Nigeria has a very long way to go, this is more than Buhari or any President we elect.

It just takes one man and 1/2 tenures to fix this country completely or start that change. It’s not rocket science bt we must correct our systems. That’s the major issue.

I have come to understand Nigerians are not innately corrupt or atleast more corrupt than others in sane countries.

It’s Our SYSTEMS that are highly and fantastically corrupt and not exactly the people. The system is framework/what allows the people to be corrupt, infact the system corrupts even the incorruptible ones. It is that bad. We must purge and strengthen our SYSTEMS with high integrity!

Our systems are evidently built to perpetrate and encourage corruption. It will not change until System are upgraded and updated.
Nigeria has to be the most complex country in the world.

Different languages, different tribes, different religious.

Nepotism, tribalism, corruption, indiscipline is even worse at the lower levers of the country.

Churches, mosques, communities,.

We followers are worse than our leaders.

Once upon a time I used to think that our leaders were solely our problem.

But that has changed in me.

We followers are equally as bad if not worse.

The level of corruption and indiscipline that goes on in our homes, communities, componds, companies, etc is mind boggling.

The people waiting in queue to take over are worse.

Right people indeed.

We need right institutions.

These institutions are not built in days but years.

With gradual and steady improvements and good leaders, Nigeria will be better in 50 years' time

The fewer the hours, then the more the rush.

More people will rush to the markets at the same short period of time and so the crowdier the markets will be.

How's Nigeria the most complex country in the world? It's actually the other way around. We have been getting very useless Nigerians as Presidents, with Buhari clearly qualifying as the worst so far.
In this fight against covid-19, compare Buhari to other world leaders who have been showing leadership, while Buhari is missing in action.

I know you're a govt sympathiser but it's not so complex.
We have online delivery platforms the govt could engage with the army providing a logistics base.

All you have to do is get an app which can be used to make purchases. The goods are then delivered by the online companies. Their stocks are supplied by the military bringing foodstuffs from the hinterland to areas on lockdown.

The problem is our govt doesn't think about local solutions. We only copy what others are doing.

About criticising govt, I don't see what's wrong with that except you want to accept criticising Jonathan's govt too was wrong.

Martinez39s:
This is a big lie! Is it that you Barca fans are liars or you guys don't remember your matches. In the 3-3 draw at Camp Nou in the 2006/07 season, Madrid were not thrashing Barça 3-0. Ruud Vanisterooy scored first then Messi scored to make it 1-1; Vanisterooy then scored a penalty before made it 2-2 after scoring from a Ronaldinho's rebound. Ramos made it 3-2 before Messi scored late to make it 3-3. Get the facts about your club right.

This is another lie. The game ended 2-2 at Sevilla even though Barcelona came back from a 2-0 deficit with goals from Suarez and Messi. However, that match wasn't a crucial match that Messi was needed the most and FC Barcelona would have still won the La Liga if they have lost the match.

What part of "WAY MORE OFTEN THAN MESSI" don't you understand? That statement doesn't imply that Messi has never helped his team to comeback. Haba! undecided You clearly haven't been following my argument since I started commenting on this thread.

It seems you guys don't know the meaning of choking. You guys are also leaving out the fact that unlike Ronaldo, Messi and his teams on many occasions have bottled things up.

Keep fooling yourself. The Liverpool comeback at Anfield is what then? There is something like comeback and there is reason why everyone regarded that semifinal as a miracle. Comebacks are amazing, and even more amazing when orchestrated by a single player. There is a reason why that Anfiels comeback and bottling up by Messi and his team painfully lingered in the memory of Barça fans for a long time until many experience revenge vicariously through Atletico Madrid when Atletico knocked out Liverpool this season. Keep fooling yourself. If there is nothing like comeback, what do you call the 6-1 victory at Camp Nou against PSG? grin

If Liverpool were leading 3-0 in the first leg and Barca came back with Messi scoring four goals, you and other Barca would have masturbated over that and called Messi the GOAT. Maybe you guy aren't used to the Ronaldo's kind of comeback and saviour complex at crucial moments, hence you talk like this.

Messi is better than Ronaldo, but you are missing my argument. Here is my clarifying post on this thread
