Irony1: Of course we must keep referencing the past because we must know who is responsible for our present predicament first before we talk of solution. Those who caused our problems can't be the source of the solution. We must not allow them to clinch power again until they are remorseful and apologize. They were in power for only six months but within that short time they wrecked so much havoc which effects have lingered for up to 60 years. That means if they had spent up to four years in power our woes would have lasted for over 300 years. 2 Likes |

Irony1: If Ironsi had, after his so-called stoppage of the coup, simply court-martialled Nzeogwu and co and got them sentenced to death for mutiny, and then replaced the slain premiers with their deputies, sworn in Dipcharima as Balewa's replacement and returned to the barracks as a professional soldier, would Gowon have later gor to power to do whatever you accuse him of doing? Would Nigeria have later fallen into the hands of mediocres like Murtala Muhammed, Obasanjo, Shagari, Buhari, IBB, Abacha and all the rest who misruled and put us in this mess today? Anyhow one looks at it, Ironsi had a good opportunity to write his name in gold in the history of Nigeria and save us the Nigerian tragedy by simply being very professional at that moment of the coup but his greed for power which he had no idea how to even use got the better part of him and he misadventured into politics thus further worsening the already tense situation. Ironsi remains the worst thing to ever happen to Nigeria and not even the Nzeogwu coup. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1:He obviously is too ashamed to address the issues raised. Weren't you folks the ones who first took power illegally in the history of Nigeria and therefore setting a precedent for future recurrence? Weren't you folks the first to disrespect our sovereignty by first tampering with the constitution we first ever produced entirely by ourselves? Weren't you folks the ones who fought against secession clause because you assumed Nigeria will be yours to dominate only to later hypocritically seek the same secession when the domination plot was crushed by the cooperation of the other tribes? From One-Nigeria to Biafra. Very inconsistent souls. 3 Likes 1 Share |

We will continue to remind you that you destroyed our good foundation by introducing coups, deriding our sovereignty by being the first to tamper with our truly we the people constitution by which we were making rapid progress, that you were the first to shed innocent blood in an independent Nigeria, that you people were too greedy to mind your business in your own regions but moving all over other regions and causing confusion all over the country in seeking to entrench your evil domination agenda deceptively packaged in the garb of calling for One-Nigeria and national unity, etc. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1:You can see that you are the miserable one. You have brazenly shown how badly educated you are. The fact that you were looking for a publicly issued authorization for the execution of a coup plot stands you out as having attended a very crude school in one remote village. You are miserable in your badly educated state of being. I guess you will call on the mods again for me replying you for first describing me as miserable. I have drawn the mods attention again now because I know you will later turn around to accuse me of being the first to call you miserable. Your claims here have largely been self contradictory and illogical. You dodged most questions and responded with insults and innuendos obviously for lack of facts and reason. Then the worst of it is that you started with insults but later began to play the victim card. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1: You gave kudos to Gamji on his claim that there was coup in the East because it agrees with want you want your gullible readers to believe and then you carpeted his narrative on the execution because it runs against your sentiments. Irony1:So Gamji and Max Silloun are more knowledgeable about the coup than Nzeogwu who was a direct participant and made it clear that there was no execution in the East? You just love lies. What we know is that Max Silloun and a host of others like Obasanjo who are sympathetic to you Igbos out of sentiments have written loads of books twisting history in favour of Igbos. Imagine Max Silloun claiming in one of his write ups that the remote cause of the Nigeria Civil War was a struggle over crude oil when even a simpleton could easily deduce that the January 15 coup laid the foundation for the chain of events that culminated in the war. Max Silloun is not an authority in Nigeria political history. If you want rawest facts on Nigeria political history then go to the National Archives or consult foreign authors who are definitely uninterested third party sources. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1:As at the time of the coup Obasanjo was far away in England undergoing a military course. Was it therefore from England he was called to come back to Nigeria in a flash to prevail on Nzeogwu to hand over to Ironsi? Can you see again that you don't really know anything about Nigeria's political history? If a radio broadcast was to be made even in an event of failure of the coup, then Ademoyega the supposed holder of that duty should have still been the one to do that and never Nzeogwu. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

What an interesting irony from a monicker named irony? Can't you see you are just shooting yourself here and there? Nzeogwu clearly hijacked Ademoyega 's duty and Ademoyega was okay with it. Irony1: I always wonder how you reason. How could Ademoyega have come out to distance himself from a coup plot he supposedly conceived according to you? The question you refuse to answer is how come a neck deep person in a plot ended up getting no single slot of targeted politicians or army officers to be killed? The glaring truth is that Ademoyega had no identifiable role in the coup. He was just a figure head. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Irony1:And that person so involved in the conceptualization and recruitment ended up not even being assigned any of the hit list names for liquidation? Wasn't he even supposed to be the one assigning targets and did the major killings like Balewa, Okotie Eboh, Mainalari, while leaving just one or two to Ifeajuna and the rest if he really were the conceiver of the entire plot? Meanwhile Ojukwu always made it clear before he died that Ifeajuna was the architect of the whole plot 2 Likes |

Irony1:Ademoyega was recruited into the plot very late just to give the coup a false non-Igbo appearance. If it was really not aimed at entrenching Igbo hegemony over Nigeria, then Ademoyega should have been assigned to kill at least one Igbo politician or army officer in the hit list just the way Akintola, Sodeinde and Ademulegun being Yorubas were all assigned to Igbo members of the plot to kill. Worse still, Ademoyega wasn't even assigned any target. Didn't he know how to pull the trigger? Even in his book "Why we struck" Ademoyega couldn't say any role he played in the execution that night. He only wrote essays to justify the senseless killing of innocent politicians and his superior army officer by his friends who actually fooled him into an ethnic cleansing made to look like a revolution. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1:Adegboyega was simply fooled with the Awolowo-to-be-installed theory in order to convince him to join the plot since he was a very strong Awoist despite being a member of the Army. So tell that excuse to children in your village. 2 Likes 1 Share |

tishbite42: According to the coup plotters, their major objective behind the coup was to create a strong center in order to promote nationalism over tribalism. Now, recall that Awolowo hated centralized system of government with a passion hence had even before independence written books and made public speechless on why Nigeria must never experiment with a strong government at the center. It was therefore public knowledge that Awolowo hated unitary system and any form of it and favored regionalism for which a lot of Igbos termed him an irredeemable tribalist. Now how then could a group of very educated young officers mostly from the tribe which perceived Awolowo as father of tribalism in Nigeria have plotted a coup aimed at eradicating tribalism but ironically preferred that very tribalistic Awolowo to come and head such a government? You can see that the theory that the coup was to install Awolowo in power does not hold water logically. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1:That still doesn't answer the simple question. Did the group of provinces operate exactly like the previous regions? If yes, then why change their name or rearrange them? Isn't that stupidity? Who were the premiers of each of the groups of provinces? Were they autonomous or reporting to the center as Ironsi commanded in his broadcast? Did they own and control their public services like the previous regions did? 3 Likes 1 Share |

Irony1:Okay, tell us what role these so-called non-Igbo members of the plot played in the execution. Who did Adewale Adegboyega gun down on that night? Which politician or army officer was assigned to Lt. Dag Waribor or Capt. Ganiyu Adeleke to kill? Why was it that all the target politicians and officers were assigned to only the Igbo members of the plot to kill? Or are you suggesting that all these Yoruba and Northern co-plotters were watching while the Igbo members shared the targets among themselves alone and didn't question it? Each time you write you further exposu how shallow your reasoning is. 3 Likes 1 Share |
