It's easy to mouth off when the responsibilities are up to someone else. Every small business in the country is struggling to make ends meet. Multinational conglomerates are retrenching workers. Our currency is in the toilet, the value of the stock exchange has basically crashed and the economy's on standstill. State governments can't pay 18k minimum wage. And yet 22k is 'stingy'. That's fine. Once you've started your own firm then by all means, pay sumptuous wages to all your staff, see how long your business lasts. |

Guys, This is not a 'corruption' case. The funds were not paid due to incorrect details- Whether it's the fault of the employees, the banks, the pension managers, the employers or all those involved, who knows? But transparency and veracity would've been served if they'd released the names of the banks and the employers/firms/institutions involved- at the very least so that the contributors can ensure they now get paid. But more importantly, to prevent any unclaimed funds from being diverted. Note: This may be monies from private, defunct or merged companies or govt MDAs. So they may not be part of TSA; but who knows? As dem no give us detailed info, na to dey guess remain... |
I'm saddened at the level of ignorance both sides of this debate have displayed so far. The first female chief justice of nigeria sent many judges packing under the last administration. Why not do simple research on the njc and sacked judges FIRST? Google is your friend. *modified- Also, the title is quite misleading. The judiciary is independent of the executive so buhari can't send any jidge 'packing'. His job is to either approve the decision or seek further information if the ruling is unclear. It's very rare for a president to disagree with an njc ruling; these matters are usually way above the pedestrian knowledge of a sitting president- unless he's advised to do so by the attorney-general or other legal advisers. Also, the judge in question can always go to court to seek redress- up to the supreme court. |
Wow. I actually forgot this ad! Heh. Still available. ![]() |
ladyF:It's been a while since I viewed this thread. A google search- https://www.google.com/search?q=nyc.minimum.wage&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 I got the info from news on the radio when two different stations announced it on the same day. And you can see that it's actually more than I wrote. So there. Now that the veracity of the figures has been proved- Whatchuthink? |
Sorry, too low to even bother myself. Thanks though. |

Na wa o. You guys are here haggling over scraps when fuel subsidies continue to suck away our life blood. You think GMB has the slightest clue of what the poor are going through? Aso Rock insulates you from that sort of news- especially since his party is too scared to give him constructive criticism (what a bunch of ninnies). And no one seems to have understood that Saudi Arabia imports EVERYTHING- excluding oil, but including water. Or that a single world class refinery can earn us huge sums- especially with low crude prices, because more nations can buy your refined products. Why are we so blind? Anyhow, latest by feb next year all of us will be singing only one tune with one voice. That's when the world will TRULY start laughing at us. |
There are plans to increase it by 2019 from the current amount of > $8/hr to $15/hr... Remimd me again what ours is? #Longtins trending. |
I recall a scene from Robocop 3 where the newscaster was supposed to narrate how Robocop killed children. But instead derided the script and walked out. This, despite the news station being owned by the private police. Definitely getting sacked, not caring a jot. We neva reach dia yet. Those whose paymasters dictate what they say online haven't witnessed their loved ones in abject penury; or suffer avoidable calamities (collapsed buildings, anyone?). But that time is coming. Fast. And propagandists will be villified- if not lynched outright. Interesting times ahead. Meanwhile, what on earth is government's business with running refineries? Are you a company? Better privatise them, if you know what's good for you o! Stop spending our money trying to fix junk. And now, in honour of halloween I'd like to cause you guys to have nightmares: Go check out how much a litre of petrol is in the US or- worse still- the UK. Make fear catch you small. Heh |
Have you noticed how states with a new governor from the same party never mention corruption? "Good job sir. Borrow more money that we will pay for- with interest. To hell with accountability- wailers can go jump in the lagoon." Oh, but remember that in PDP-run states, the opposition APC are also wailing wailers. And Buhari wants to fight corruption from Aso Rock. Funny. |
It's amazing that when we should all now be in a serious panic mode, the news didn't even seem to make it to nairaland! What's going on?! Abi na me no see am? http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/11/revenue-from-non-oil-exports-cascades-to-391m/ - that's a N50billion drop o! - how on earth did this happen? Wait o. Na only agric produce we dey export?! Chineke! And then the nnpc gives us this 'shocker': http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/11/nnpc-records-n336-83b-deficit-as-subsidy-crude-theft-increase/ - increase in subsidy ke! Ontopof wetin na? If light don dey dey and govt no give contract who com dey use d fuel wey una talk say oil price don crash? Shu!! - and I thought the crude theft was being properly managed; where dem com see shans take pass navy plus army? Wetin be dis?!? So when you combine the two, where is govt going to find money for ANYTHING?! (Please read the first update here- https://www.nairaland.com/2690105/economic-predictions-2016-update-1) |
After the news about last week being the worst financially since 2008, I think an update is needed here: The bvn saga has some unforeseen consequences that we likely haven't thought of- but I'm shocked that financial pundits seem to have completely ignored ANY analysis of this HUGE pit we risk falling into! Have salaries for october been paid? If not what happens if your account has been frozen- since it's an e-transaction, does your pay even get to your account? If each of the 20million frozen accounts only has an average of N1000 as minimum balance, that's N20 billion automatically out of circulation. How do all these frozen funds- plus the $5 billion still stuck in banks due to the cbn's dollar policy- affect the economy? How many low income earners- gatemen, cooks, cleaners, househelps, drivers, conductors, policemen, petty traders, etc will go unpaid and therefore be thrown into (short-term?) Financial ruin? How many dependents who get money fro 'd abroad' are now trapped without funds for sustenance, fees, (medical) bills, even loan repayments/business financing? All because noone could advise the cbn to inform the public that, "From nov 1st, you must get your bvn before accessing your account"- the very same message minus the UNNECESSARY panic... |
No feeding. Mon- sat, + sun evening. Work + accommodation are both on site. How do you apply for a job without providing biodata and a cv? |
This is harsh, but- HR staff don't owe you anything. Companies don't owe you jack. We know the market increases every 6 months. Therefore only the best get chosen If you've been hunting for over 6 months- VOLUNTEER Your cert only gets you into the interview; after that, you better have the required skill set. BSc computing without a computer? Seriously? So who do you REALLY expect to give you a job? Abi you fit buy new moto go give lerna?! Beg your pastor/imam/high priest to announce your availability for UNPAID internship. Or offer free consults to small businesses in your industry. Learn, study, train and practicalise by helping people with your new knowledge. These are the practical experiences that get you employed. So focus on your core interests and stop going for jobs that don't concern you, just because you need a job. But more importantly, stop whining and go DO SOMETHING. God bless us all. |
Still available. Was thinking of upgrading to a bare-bones win8. But has to be on demand... ![]() Cheers |
femcruz:Amen. But: Again, all I've done is make predictions based on MY PERSONAL observations. I PRAY TO GOD THAT I'M WRONG ON ALL COUNTS. You think I want them to come to pass?! I'm nowhere near that kind of madness. Thanks for your prayers. |
Meanwhile- It appears that the company was founded in 2013. Therefore, without a formidable record of stability and growth, you want to bring products to Nigeria? Fair enough. But again, full disclosure goes a long way to ensure that you appear honest and avoid buyer's remorse. Again, please address the message: I'm sure your prospective clients, investors and partners would like to know- How sustainable are your (2-year old) company and it's products? No offence. Thanks. |
FirstKlass:I've no interest either way in whatever your products are. Your post is about '(Becoming An Oil And Gas Distributor In Your State)'. You gave a company name. You had ample opportunity to state- IN CLEAR TERMS- the company's portfolio. You didn't. I googled the name and the ONLY products I found are drinks. Wherever your oil and gas connection meets the company's products, it's missing from their site. Unless you expect me to do your job for you in providing the required details that will help your audience make informed choices? Should I have to call the USA or send an email requesting the information you should have provided? If I wanted to invest, I would do so, but as I said, I'm not interested. But there are many who might easily fall for scams on here and since I don't know you, I have to give fair warning about the discrepancies I found. Address the issues of your products and what the link is with the company's site (that only advertised drinks) with relevant follow-up information that anyone can verify. Stop trying to shoot the messenger. Thanks. |
Less than 1 minute on google shows that the company sells coffee and chocolate. Shine your eyes. 'Nuff said. |
There are so many things to say about the posts on this thread, but let me summarise: Back in may, GMB said he won't work with the 2015 budget. So no need to shout. He's not listening. Brace yourselves, find a way to survive and ride out the hard times, 'cos they'll be here awhile. |
I'd like a situation where the APC won all 36 states' elections in all arms/ levels of government. Maybe that's what the want? But it'll be ok by me if that's what would get them to stop blaming the PDP, even though they're in power- and WORK. Yes, that's politics, but you can only perform one trick so often before it turns stale, even sour... |
Jollyjoy:Obviously. Question is, do the signs agree or disagree with me? Tags- Feel free to check out the trend for any of the tags below. I expect that most of them are worsening- and have been doing so for months now. The problem with economics is that there's a trickle-down effect which most of us hardly see until someone makes an announcement in the news!! Please, remember that the purpose of my initial post is to provide information, so that we can all make informed decisions. I'd gladly accept- and look forward to- rebuttals based on any available data. Who on earth could WANT things to get worse than they currently are?! sovereign wealth fund foreign reserves excess crude account *Special case- this should be non-existent by now. trade deficit foreign debt local debt gdp gdp per capita gdi- gross domestic income interest rates lending rates inflation nbs- national bureau of statistics economic indices bond market rates treasury bills forex rates unemployment rates |
Sorry to put a damper on your Sunday evening, but this has to be done- because we have to each prepare ourselves. Most of this write up is easy to deduce. The handwriting's already on the wall and you don't need a genius IQ to see it coming. Now that it's clear that 'body language' wasn't responsible for the perceived improvements in power supply; Now that it's clear that the government's 2015 fiscal year is ended; Now that it's clear that therefore there will be no capital projects for the rest of the year; Now that it's clear that there have so far been hardly any tangible gains in the fight against either corruption or terrorism; Now that it's clear that the CBN's policies are just a bandaid against a cracked dam; Now that it's clear that the new noisemakers are the old wine of corruption; Now that it's clear that said noisemakers will not have a budget for 2016 (Osinbajo says they're adopting a 'zero budget' economic model). Now that it's all clear for us to see and understand- I'd like to make a few predictions for 2016. First, the dollar dam will break at Christmas- Dollar will likely hit N300. This will lead to an official recession. We might avoid it with end-of-year govt spending, but that's unlikely. Petroleum prices will dip further- after a winter bump. And this is even before Iran rejoins the market. The federal govt has no money to sustain subsidies. Therefore latest by february, fuel subsidy will be scrapped and the markets deregulated. All taxes are going up- Vat, electricity, income, etc. Therefore inflation will skyrocket. All the above will make the status quo impossible to maintain. Therefore, mass retrenchments will take place. By May 29, 2016, we'll all be 'wailing wailers' and gej will be fondly remembered (i dont care for the way the guy handled things but what the hey. I'm just predicting human behaviour). God in heaven, I hope I'm wrong on ALL the counts above, but it's almost inevitable really. But here's the one that'll get you: We just might see the first impeachment of a sitting president! I know, shocker right? God help us all. |
