Do you have proof of funds from your dad that exceeds this amount to show the visa officer?
Did you take the SAT exams?

Hi all,

Is it best to tell the VO that the reason for the masters is to change career in the same organization- in house lawyers or to work in a top law firm?

Please I need someone to help me with mock interviews. Thank you.
Dear learned colleague, I completely understand that you might be feeling anxious about your upcoming visa interview. Please know that there's no one-size-fits-all answer to these questions and the visa officer may focus on something different altogether. I want to encourage you to approach the interview with an open mind and be true to yourself, rather than trying to memorize what to say. It's important to fill out your form and I-20 yourself, as your questions will likely come from these documents. I truly wish you all the best and I am rooting for your success.

Congratulations bro.
I have an interview by September for a B1/B2 visa.
Now these are my questions -
- how do I do a hotel reservation that the embassy can confirm without payment.

- how do I reserve a flight ticket without payment that can still be valid and confirmable by September if I do it now.
The one I did last year when I picked a date has expired after 1 month paying $10.
- I want to make some changes in by DS-160 form. Can I rectify the form without making another paymemt or date?
Not necessary no one is checking those reservations (flight & hotel).
For the ds160 fill a fresh one call the contact centre to update the new number on your profile.

Thanks Debbie! What do you think about change of intent letter? I’m of the opinion that, it doesn’t matter since you’ll always get a generic response. More so, we used our last visit visa for child birth as well. During the Trump era, the vo couldn’t refuse our visa directly. She only asked for the baby’s birthday and realized my wife wasn’t pregnant during the interview. However, we declared our intention at the port of entry (JFK) about my wife giving birth. Not much questions were asked then except for how much we had on us. We declared $20k cash and there was no problem. It was then, I knew that couples/ families are not allowed more than 10k. I used to think it’s per individual. The terms state, I or We. So, it’s 10k for couples or families. If you have more than that you’ll have to declare and fill a form. We declared and filled a form. It actually helped during renewal interview. Our transcripts with the cbp was there on the screen for the consular. The only reason they refused our visa then was because of itemized bill. We later got it and went for another interview this year and they didn’t bother except checking where we stayed, since we said we didn’t know anyone in the US. Once that was verified, the VO approved. Now, should I use same style as the last or write the change of intent letter this time? Note- she wasn’t pregnant at the time of the interview and no questions about intent of giving birth came up.
There’s no need for the change of intent letter since she wasn’t pregnant at the point of interview so there was no intent to birth as of then. Declare at the border and that sorts it.

Please I need help on my upcoming interview, in my previous interview I was denied and before I got denied the VO told me to get a scholarship next time, and right now, my next interview is coming up and I didn’t get a scholarship and I’m going to the school I applied last year. So my question is, if I’m being asked what has changed after my previous denial, what can I say?… I know they don’t ask that often, but in case they ask…
I need your help
How much is on your I-20 and how much have you raised? How do you intend to cover ?

Please, share you POE experience in ATL. Was your visa gotten for medical or visit? My wife is pregnant now and would be using a hospital in Houston. I’m unsure if she should fly to Houston POE or go through some other state. Our visa was gotten for vacation and no question of child birth came up. Also, she conceived few weeks after our interview. I don’t know if they’re strict about birth tourism now, especially if you didn’t inform them during your interview? Anyone here that has traveled for child birth and didn’t inform the consular during interview? Is Houston a good POE for a situation like this? I’m thinking JFK or LAX, then connecting to Houston. Though, I’ll prefer a straight journey to Houston because of stress and also luggage (domestic airlines charge separately for luggage).
ATL or jfk is okay.
ATL was seamless for me. Iah I don’t trust them don’t risk it.

A friend has been trying to help me pay my SEVIS fee from his location in Luton, United Kingdom to no avail. He has gone to several Western Union agents but they seem not to do or understand the Western Union Quick Pay which to me is an supposed to be an easy process as I have created the coupon over and sent to him.

My question, is Western Union Quick Pay available online?

Has anyone paid SEVIS fee from the UK, if yes, kindly guide on how you were able to do it.

So you don’t know this your changes are fraudulent and you have to stick to this information for life with the five eyes whenever you apply to any of them.
Did your cousin suddenly become your sister overnight and her dad your dad?

I have a pressing issue on my neck right now.

1.) I paid and registered for B1/B2 Visa in 2022.
2.) I filled my normal details initially
3.) Along the line my cousin sister a citizen now volunteered to offer my an IV and that I should also use her dad who is presently sick in the USA as an excuse to visit.
4.) I agreed, with her directives I reacquired a new NPC birth certificate to show her dad's name, and also did the same on my marriage certificate.
5.) My interview is just on the 22nd (4 days)
6.) Few weeks ago i edited my DS 106 form and changed my dad name to her name dad's name, plus other things changed.
7.) For record purposes I originally used her details as a USA citizen to fill my contact and host person.
8.) Our plan is that I will be coming with her IV on the basis of her forthcoming birthday and another doctor's report recommending I visit so as to pay our dad (her dad) a visit.
9.) Meanwhile, I have done all necessary printing; bank statements, leave approved, employment letter, salary slip, birthday program card etc

10.) Now the problem is this: she is finding fault in most of the things I printed and from my observations, she is not wanting to send me the promised invitation letter and doctor's report as planned.

NOW WHAT DO I DO?
Her dad is not your dad he’s your uncle so why fill his details as your dad?
I hope you realize whatever you’ve started you must finish it because you can’t come up in the nearest future to say he’s no longer your dad or you don’t bear that name again. See, I get you may be desperate but let’s be guided to not further complicate life issues. U.S. citizen iv or whatever doesn’t guarantee you a visa and best believe no officer is checking that Yeye IV. It’s better you retain original and real information on your form and don’t complicate things for yourself.

There are certain boxes you tick to get a visa and visas as assessed by your individual requirements not by someone else’s U.S. citizenship. As a visa officer I’ll deny you because I know you’re going to stay with your sister as you now want to claim her as sibling and her dad as your dad and you’ll most likely not return.

Hey 🤠

1. Henceforth don't disturb yourself about over-wise opinions . You made a typo error which i followed suit. Every reasonable person should even Google for him or her to know that you meant Tufts .

2. The Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe of Nairaland even disputed the payment of spot deposit (tuition deposit in UK and Canada) prior to the issuance of Form I 20. Thanks to @Zihno who quickly shut his mouth up.

3. Go ahead with your preparations my dear. If Havard University denied you admission to study Msc Economics but ORU (Oral Roberts University) offered you same admission with the condition to pay spot deposit of even $1000 prior to the issuance of Form I 20 won't you accept to pay if you have the money ?

4. 75% of USA higher institutions will ask you to send financial statement before they issue Form I 20. That is their agreement with the USA government (to verify that foreign students have enough money for their educational expenses upon arrival). Many schools have been suspended or shut down indefinitely for not following this rule.

Best Wishes 🙏

Kindly clarify how a GT Bank account holder can make this payment for a non GT Bank account holder via GT Bank app.

Hello guys, I’ve learnt a lot on this thread, thanks to everyone for being so kind. I now have specific questions and will be appreciative if I get clear answers.

I have a B1/B2 visa effective last year and valid for 5 years. The plan at the time of applying was to visit the US in December 2023 on vacation, but I ended up not going. Plans have now changed and I intend to use the visa for birthing purposes early 2025. I will most likely be staying with family at Houston Texas or Lubbock Texas.

Here are my questions:

1. Do I need to visit the US first on vacation before going back for birthing purpose. Does this increase my chances at the POE or is it okay to wait till I’m ready to go in 2025?
2. For those who have had their babies this year or recently in Texas, could you kindly assist with
(a) good hospital options/doctors and their contact details;
(b) breakdown of cost and expectations; and
(c)any other thing I should be aware of.

I know 2025 is still some months away but DH and I need to plan ahead. Thank you.

It is advisable to use your visa for its intended purpose, before considering using it for childbirth. Although a five-year visa may seem like a long time, it will come to an end sooner than you think. To avoid complications during the visa renewal process, it is recommended that you use it for its purpose, even if it's just for a short period, and then return for childbirth. This will help to ensure that you have a smooth and hassle-free experience when renewing your visa.

Hey 🤠

1. Do you want to be refused permanently via negligence ? Choose between filling another DS 160 form for 2 hours and having your visa permanently refused ?

2. Go and fill another DS 160 and input those changes including your new salary as well as your new travel itinerary. After that update your DS 160 via your profile and re-login to print out a new appointment letter after 3 days.

3. On the day of your interview . Take note. You don't tell or answer the questions that a consular officer did not ask you. If you do that it means you have memorized what you wanted to say or you want to trick the consular via talking . You can only stylishly do that in a related way.

Best Wishes 🙏
I hope you realise that his 221g to show up for an interview was issued based on this DS-160 and you want him to go and change it. Why can’t he get there and use his mouth to mention to the Visa officer these changes he stated here instead of complicating issues? If there was no 221g on that ds 160 then it’s good he can change whatever.
Please let’s be guided

1. I’m not planning on going with them immediately, they’ll need to come at a later date as my wife is working and currently running her MBA here in Nigeria.

2. Your suggestions were the original plan till 2 of my mentors who contributed immensely in this journey raised the issue of going together citing what they went through before their wives could join them.

I would appreciate if we can connect personally via DMs and if there’s a way I can run my story because it will hurt my wife to think she jeopardize my chance if it didnt work hence my post here

I got the point the OP was trying to make also.
To let you know, some Nigerians in diaspora trying to re-japa to USA or Canada are still getting their visa refused. Infact, I know someone with Swedish Permanent residence that got negative decision on his Canadian study permit. One of the reasons he was denied was that, the VO did not sure if he will leave Canada after his study. Also my cousin got his US visit visa rejected few years ago in Germany. Though my cousin has work permit in Germany at the time..

Lets just hope for a better Nigeria.

Before my interview, I saw how people were discussing proving home ties with marriage, father, mother, friends, and family. This is exactly what I am saying is beneath you when you're apply from this side. Showing intent to go back after studying is a sure prerequisite for any student visa, anywhere in the world. But going the extra mile to be explaining, discussing, and showing how the fact that you have family, wife, or kids in Nigeria is not necessary here. No single person I know, was asked that.

I don't know how to explain this but I hope you get my point.

And this is why going to a good school with soft funding is very important. When you have that, the VO will not waste his or her time to ask you irrelevant questions. Straight one or two basic question then move ahead. Why will a VO be wasting time here, asking you to explain home ties when you're going to Purdue or University of Chicago? He would rather ask you something like "tell me about your research", just to test you. once you give them STUFF, they'll know that you're not playing. Visa approved, sharp sharp.

I agree you must show intent to come back, but to be explaining up and down trying to prove home ties, is not necessary at all.

When you get to Belfast office, the place is so calm. No bad belle or bias, you can literally smell you visa approval. Honestly, those VO for naija dey very harsh, unnecessarily.

But it's okay sha, each to it's own.

It is well

I understand your sentiments 😂 but it’s not this bad bad here in Nigeria at least not for me and a few others, my interviews have been quite brief and straight to the point not lasting longer than 2 minutes. But I completely understand the point you’re trying to make now.

Is it possible to pay SEVIS fee online? I couldn't find a way to pay it online, so I had someone in the U.S. visit a Western Union branch; but he was told that he couldn't pay it on my behalf, that I had to be physically present before they can process the payment.

This doesn't seem sensible. Could someone kindly explain how I can pay the fee, online if possible?
So you need to generate a coupon on the i94 website just follow the steps to do so it’s clearly written on the website and send that coupon to your U.S. contact have him print it out or something , when they get to the WU office they’ll have to first use the self service machine then the machine will direct them to the representative there who will then conclude the transaction and you immediately get an email once it’s done

Hello, I am currently in your position. This is what I did. This will be a long post, I apologize.

I finished my MA in the UK in 2021. Post graduation, I was working part time here and there, as per UK usual. I applied for fall 2024 to 8 universities, all fully funded programs. I go admitted into 3, 1 waitlist, and 4 rejections. I just did my visa interview last month, it was granted. My Visa is arriving soon.

Key things to note.

My masters and PhD is in exactly the same field. So I am not jumping from A to B.

I have never ever been to the US before, nor have I ever applied for their Visa.

My PhD is fully funded with over 10k excess left over.

My interview lasted like 2mins.

Please, please, please.... apply to the best school you can enter. The school is very very important and will affect your visa. School and funding is the most important thing from my experience. It is harder to deny a havard or princeton scholar than someone going to rashford state university or Onana school of business. I see people talking about home ties and all that, THAT IS A NIGERIA PROBLEM AND YOU ARE IN THE UK. THAT PROBLEM IS BENEATH YOU!!!

VO in Nigeria are people with prejudice and strong belief that we all want to run away and never return. They are very tight. It is not like that abroad. If you can, go to Belfast for the interview, things are very chill there. The VO are soft friendly people.

Apply to a top school, the best you can get into and have full funding. When asked about post graduation plans... I said "to go back to Nigeria and use my skills in education, research and development". Just show intent to go back home, all that home ties nonsense is BENEATH you.

Now, for your application, make sure you write GRE, you dont need toefl. I wrote GRE twice. Try to score above 300. I scored 312. Just try your best, please. Try to study well in school and graduate with a good grade. Transcript matters alot. I made merit.

Try to score a first class score in your thesis, it really really helps. Make sure atleast two of your references are from your UK university. Try to not use Nigerian professors. They don't rate our things. Its unfair but that's the way of the world.

I applied to Emory, UMCP, Ohio state university, Indiana university, Purdue, Bowling green state university, UPenn, and Penn state. Look for schools in top 150 or so. Dont go too far down. You need a top school so they can shower you with so much funding and you will be confident for interview.

Try to publish your Masters thesis before you apply, it really helps. Also I wanted to apply to 12 schools, but I stopped after my second admission offer came in.

BE CONFIDENT WHEN YOU GET THERE FOR INTERVIEW. TALK LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

GO FORTH AND CONQUER!!!!!!

No over think am, it is not rocket science.

Congratulations on your seamless visa experience but showing intent to return to Nigeria is also home ties. If you have had a different answer to that question on post study plans, the interview would have probably gone south. In that split second you established home ties to Nigeria. Home ties is not beneath anyone, not only Nigerians get denied visas.
