GistAlert: No fewer than six children have been killed and several others critically ill following an outbreak of measles in Wusar community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
The six children were among the 30 reported cases of a measles outbreak that broke out in the community in the last two months.
The state deputy governor, Hadiza Balarabe, who confirmed the incident during a visit to the community, attributed the outbreak of measles in the area due to the failure of parents to present their children for routine immunization against child killer diseases.
She also identified malnutrition and lack of proper hygiene as part of the causes of child-related deaths in the community. The deputy governor urged parents to always ensure their children are immunized regularly against any child killer disease and to also take sanitation and personal hygiene serious while assuring them of government’s quick intervention to prevent a future occurrence.

References: Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev has died from brain injuries sustained in a fight in Maryland, the Russian boxing federation announced on Tuesday. “Maxim Dadashev has died in the United States following injuries sustained during his fight with Subriel Matias,” the federation said in a statement.
The 28-year-old underwent emergency brain surgery in Washington after his super-lightweight bout with Puerto Rican Matias on Friday was stopped after the 11th round by his cornerman James “Buddy” McGirt.
Dadashev, known as “Mad Max”, was unable to walk to the dressing room and was immediately hospitalised.
Doctors operated to relieve pressure from swelling on his brain.
McGirt, who said after the fight he “couldn’t convince” his fighter to stop but opted to throw in the towel when he saw him “getting hit with more and more clean shots as the fight went on,” told ESPN on Tuesday he was wracking his brain wondering if he could have done things differently.
“It just makes you realize what type of sport we’re in, man,” McGirt told ESPN — which streamed the fight on its ESPN+ platform.
“He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing. My mind is like really running crazy, right now. Like what could I have done differently? But at the end of the day, everything was fine (in training).
“He seemed OK, he was ready, but it’s the sport that we’re in. It just takes one punch, man.”
Russian boxing chief Umar Kremlev told Russian media that Dadashev’s body would be repatriated home and that his family would receive financial aid.
Dadashev’s widow, Elizaveta Apushkina, also issued a statement, confirming the fighter’s death “with great sadness.
“He was a very kind person who fought until the very end. Our son will continue be raised to be a great man like his father,” she said of the St. Petersburg-born fighter who trained in Oxnard, California.
Dadashev took an unbeaten 13-0 record into the 140-pound non-title fight.

I for one, has never been a fan of this show because I'm still trying to figure out what the show is all about and of what benefit it is to the Nigerian youths. It seems the only things promoted on this show are sex, alcholol, party and more sex. Nevertheless, I'd like to leave this aspect for another time. The focus of this article is the selection process for housemates on the BBNaija show.
Why is it that MOST folks who found their way to the BBNaija show seemed to be connected to some notable figures in one sector or the other in Nigeria? Why is that MOST of them had already gotten some degree of popularity before they were selected as BBNaija housemates? Onyemadonald: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has taken another step towards awarding more subject-exemptions to graduates of deserving accredited institutions.
The Institute has planned to achieve this through a new programme known as MCATI. MCATI is an acronym for Mutual Cooperation Agreement with Tertiary Institutions.
By this, out of the fifteen (15) subjects that are written in the graduate stages of its professional examinations based on the new (2019) syllabus, graduates from Institutions where this agreement exist will now sit for only five (5) subjects (i.e only final level of the Institute’s examinations).
The basis of these additional exemption for the graduates of the deserving institutions is, according to ICAN, the subjects would have been thoroughly taught by the accredited institutions who sign in. Thus, ICAN sees it worthwhile to grant more exemptions to graduates of such institutions provided they abide by the agreement.
The subjects as per the new (2019) syllabus are as follows:

Just as the title of this thread implies, I wish to know the essential roles of a best man in white wedding ceremony.

The corporation disclosed this in a statement signed by Mr Ndu Ughamadu, its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the other partners are Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) and the exploration and production arm of NNPC, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).
He said that the move was part of the quest by the NNPC to increase the nation’s crude oil reserves and daily oil production to three million barrels per day.
OML 13 is 100 per cent owned by the NPDC and is located in the Eastern axis of the Niger Delta covering a total area of 1987km².
He said that the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Malam Mele Kyari, had described the funding arrangement as “a game changer to oil and gas project financing in Nigeria”.
He expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari, for approving the transaction, adding that OML 13 held strong potential both for the petroleum industry and the nation’s economy.
Explaining the terms of the financing, Kyari disclosed that the Federal Government is expected to earn over 10.2 billion dollars in royalties and taxes from the project over the next 15 years.
Also NNPC would earn over five billion dollars after payment of the entire financing obligation.
The GMD advised the management of NPDC to develop a strong community engagement strategy to forestall any crisis that could hinder operations.
He disclosed that the acreage boasts of over 926 million stock tank barrels (mstb) and 5.24 trillion cubic feet (tcf) respectively of oil and gas reserves, adding that the Financing and Technical Services Agreement was for a period of 15 years.
According to him, 3.15 billion dollar ceiling funding will be provided by SEEPCO with a 10-year capital investment period and five years for cost recovery.
First oil of about 7,900bpd is expected from the project by April, 1, 2020 while production is expected to peak at 94,000bpd and 542mmscfd within four years.
On local content, the project is expected to enhance participation by indigenous companies in the industry by providing over 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
The Chairman, Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited, Mr Tony Chukwueke, expressed delight at the opportunity offered the company to support the production and reserves growth aspiration of the Federal Government.

ENUGU GOVT APPROVES IMMEDIATE EMPLOYMENT OF 102 RESIDENT DOCTORS, INTAKE OF 125 INTERNS BY ESUT TEACHING HOSPITAL, PARKLANE
Determined to ensure adequate human resources for various clinical departments in the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Parklane, for enhanced, qualitative and affordable healthcare delivery, the Enugu State Government on Monday approved the immediate employment of 102 Resident Doctors and intake of 125 Interns by the hospital.
The approval, according to a statement by the Permanent Secretary (General Administration), Mrs. Josephine U. Onyia, was sequel to a request by the Board of Management of the hospital.
The statement listed the departments (9) and number of Resident Doctors as follows: Pediatrics (20); Internal Medicine (20); Surgery (15); Ophthalmology (; Radiology (; ENT (5); Chemical Pathology (2); Histopathology (4); Obstetrics and Gynecology (20).
It added that the approval for the intake of Interns for 4 departments was as follows: Medical Laboratory Science (50); Radiography (15); Pharmacy (50) and Physiotherapy (10).
The state government therefore reassured the people of its unwavering commitment to delivery of excellent and affordable healthcare services.

Ekpe, a gynaecologist at the Nyanyan General Hospital said this in Abuja yesterday at a roundtable discussion on accountability for maternal health in Nigeria organized by the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, in Partnership with the National Human Rights Commission.
He said: “Many of them are employed by private hospitals that are not even paying them enough because of the economy. We don’t have enough doctors and the ones we have are not being utilized.
“The manpower issue is that government is not engaging the needed health personnel. We need to make the place conducive. As you build the primary healthcare centres, make accommodation available, electricity and make life conducive for the workers.” Executive Director, WARDC, Abiola Afolabi, said, maternal mortality could be successfully reduced “if we put women’s rights at the centre of the equation.”

The senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Danjuma Goje, has said at no time did he faced corruption charge totaling N25 billion.
Mr Goje, a former governor of Gombe State, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement signed by Paul Erokoro, lawyer to the senator, said the claim was “inaccurate and untrue.”
Mr Erokoro was reacting to recent reports in the media that corruption charge being faced by the senator were withdrawn following his decision to step down from the Senate president race in June.
He insisted that the actual amount mentioned in the charge was N9 billion.
“The so-called “N25b fraud” that has been bandied about in the media, never featured in the case.
“The sum total of all the monies mentioned in the charge was about N8b.
“Of that total, N5billion was a loan taken from Access Bank for completion of infrastructural projects such as the Gombe airport, waterworks, numerous roads, Gombe Jewel Hotels, schools, hospitals and rural electrification.
“The bank testified in Court that the money was properly utilised for the projects. The EFCC investigators also confirmed to the Court that the projects were all completed.”
On the N1 billion agricultural loan, he said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had testified in court that the loan was utilised in full compliance with the bank’s loan conditions.
“Other witnesses told the court that the governor never awarded any contract for the supply of food to Government House and Government Guest Houses during his tenure for the N1 billion alleged in the charge or for any other sum.
“On the N1.6 billion for the supply of English Dictionaries for primary and secondary schools, the Court was told that Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) gave its approval and that the contract was advertised in two newspapers and that reputable book publishers and suppliers tendered and that State Universal Basic Education Board awarded the contract to the lowest bidder.”
He said all the 19 counts of the charge around the above monetary issues collapsed during the trial.
He said because the prosecution witnesses completely exonerated the defendants was why the 19 counts were all dismissed by the court, on the the ground of No Case submission.
He added that the star witness of the Prosecution, a senior EFCC operative who headed the investigation, told the court that throughout their investigation, no money belonging to the Gombe State Government was traced to the Governor, his family members or associates.
He said because of their embarrassing nature, the two counts of the charge were withdrawn by the Attorney-General of the Federation and not on political negotiation as being speculated.
