There is a proverb in Igbo land which states “any person that calls his or her mother ugly invariably called his or her father stup.id. All the loudmouthed nitwits who had negatively responded to this thread by foul mouthing Biafra and Ndigbo had just called their mothers ugly.

It is on record that your forbearers including uncles and aunts went to war in order to stop Biafra from fledging into a nation state. I guess there are potentials your forbearers saw in Biafra these loudmouthed jackasses will never see even in their graves.

Bros Afam4eva and naijaking1, the display of shameful act due to stupidity and continuous attempt to sound indifference to heinous crime committed against people of eastern region in1966 by certain Nigerians say volumes and constitute reasons Nigeria keeps marching backward.

One of the reasons deduced for the January 15, 1966 coup and murder of certain military officers was the part the officers played during the Tiv riot of 1964. Some few Igbo officers were twisted because of Tiv officers killed their fellow Tiv kinsmen on the urging of Ahamadu Bello. Yet the Tiv and the so-called Middle Belt indigenes had audacity to kill easterners and join forces to precipitate a war against Biafra.

Why have all these people calling for sovereign national conference for amendment to the Nigerian constitution and control of resources kept blind eyes to abandon property and draconian boundary adjustment policies? These two anachronistic policies keep reminding me that Nigeria/Biafra civil war has not ended.

The water has already gone under the bridge. This latest cry for true political and cultural identity is more than forty years old behind the criers. A fool at forty, they say is a fool forever. It is even more shameful than laughable the group seemed to be yearning for convocation of a sovereign national conference for amendment to the Nigerian constitution and control of resources.

I must say that any call less then disintegration of colonial contraption called Nigeria is delusional and practical joke.

Awo was imaginary magician to these brainwashed Yoruba peeps. In a space of five (5) years as the premier of western region, the first Asiwaju of Yoruba land developed Ibadan, Lagos, Abeokota, Akure, Owo, Ado-Ekiti, Oshogbo, Ogbomosho, Ijebu-Ode, Benin-City, Warri, Sapale ete.

Anybody who had opportunity to see Ibadan, Ado-Ekiti, Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Ogbomosho, Akure, Owo and Ijebu-Ode in late 70s should understand what mud house was all about. grin grin grin

The federal representatives were appointed until 1956 federal election which Zik won in Onicha.

Ita and Udoma were politically disgraced at the polls by elementary school teachers. In fact, both were treated to a deceitful Yoruba political cocktail by Awo as all promises made by AG and Awo came up empty.

you should recall that Awo ruled as leader of the the Yoruba geopolitical zone which was one of the three recognised geopolitical zones in Nigeria at that time. He was the Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria from October 1, 1954 until December 15, 1959. Nonetheless, his accomplishments dwarf the combined achievements of the last five heads of government Nigeria has had. you should understand that you can not excuse his towering influence in the advancement of the yoruba people as a weakness for nationalism. His influence was greatly felt in the Yoruba land because it was the region under which he had jurisdiction. His impact is still being felt and multiplied in the land as at today. He exercised his ingeniousness in affecting the whole of Nigeria by masterminding the end of the Nigerian civil war when he was a federal minister under General Yakubu Gowon. If he had been given the chance to serve Nigeria and not rigged out at the federal elections, this great man would have transformed the entire country called Nigeria, and who knows, we might not be where we are now as a nation. We probably will be the true giant of Africa where are destiny lies.
The above post falls into the class of nonsensical insinuations mostly pulled from places Sun does not reach and points to the reasons why Nigeria shall remain in a dilapidated shape. You are right Awo was premier for western region from 1954 to 1959. Even if Awo was a socio-politico-economic magician, first grader would be hardly convinced Awo accomplished all these empty praises heaped on him by delusional flock of tribal irredentists in such a short time.

I recall feel-happy and self-promoting drunks had already attributed the development of Lagos to Awo too.

The archaic appearance of Ibadan tells all the stories a person needs to know about Awolowo and his loudmouthed followers.

It is obvious that a lot of people are putting forward irrelevant opinions without considering the facts. According to the rules of the election and the constitution, to avoid a run-off election a candidate must win 2/3 of the 19 states which is 13 states. Shagari won 12 states but was declared winner winner, against the rules of the election and consitution, because of the argument put forward by Akinjide that Shagari won 2/3rds of the 13th State. OBJ, tha coward that he is, quickly handed over power to Shagari. That election should have gone to a run-off between Awo and Shagari.

Do you need another history lesson? Were there any NNDP members in the Western House in 1962? In fact was there a party called NNDP? The brouhaha in the Western house was caused by NCNC members such as TOS Benson, Oke (who threw the first chair) and Ebubedike (who broke the mase). The breaking of the house, was particularly significant because it meant that Akintola couldn't be impeached. You should have told us the name of the Igbo officials who were involved. What are there names? Don't they have names?

Gowon released Awo from prison. Ironsi was in power for 6 months; are you suggesting that it takes more to effect the release of a prisoner? The facts of the matter are that Awo was released from prison when Gowon was Head of State. Ironsi was already dead and there was no way he could have effected Awo's release from the dead. Even if Ironsi gave the order; Gowon could have still ignored it if he wanted.
A person has, at least, to understand the history from mainstream rather than ethnically and myopic standard. There was a party named NNDP in 1962. In fact, NNDP had existed in Lagos under the leadership of Marculey before the year, 1962. UPP, IPP and would-be members of NNDP were in the western regional house of assembly as AG or NCNC.

The scenario you described is very misleading. Those members who caused breach of peace on the floor of legislative house in western region did so within the rim of personal merit not as directives from party central committee. Akintola was a very likable politician in Nigeria at era in discuss. He was loved across the board. I believed certain behaviors displayed by politicians at the floor of western regional house of assembly were personal.

The legal and political precedents which followed Akintola’s removal as the premier of western region suggested Awo and AG grips on power in western region had hopelessly gone south. I guess impeachment should be based on law not breaking of an object. During the court battles, western regional house of assembly engaged in amendment of law retroactively and the majority of the members were the so-called politicians from AG.
Politics › Re: Why Did Awo Lose The 1979 Election? by Dede1(m): 10:17pm On Oct 14, 2011
@PhysicsQED, I gathered resourcefully that Ironsi give the order for the release of Awo before his was killed. The plank of either Gowon pardoning or receiving credit for Awo’s release was concocted by Saro Wiwa.

It is ludicrous for someone to credit the relaese order to a person who could not execute such order. Again, Gowon had no authority to release a housefly in eastern region at the time.
Politics › Re: Why Did Awo Lose The 1979 Election? by Dede1(m): 9:37pm On Oct 14, 2011
PhysicsQED:
Awolowo was jailed because the AG was arming itself. The "conspiracy" aspect of it is the claim that he actually wanted to overthrow the federal government at all costs in order to install himself as a dictator, which seems very ridiculous. Whether that conspiracy was really only a "northern" conspiracy is questionable.

Instead of Akintola to be removed, or his supporters arrested after the debacle in Ibadan with the throwing of chairs at the house of assembly meeting etc., vocal NPC and NCNC members supported Akintola. It would be strange therefore for Awolowo to see NCNC members as supporting him or looking out for his interests.

Awolowo credited the then director of Nigerian prisons (who was not from the Eastern region) with his transfer from a prison in the north to Calabar prison. Later, Ironsi was the one who was to release Awolowo, but he was killed before his directive could be implemented. Gowon carried this out and got the "credit" for releasing Awolowo. The claim that Ojukwu released Awolowo is strange, considering that he did not do anything in this regard him until Gowon announced that Awolowo was to be pardoned. The "credit" for releasing Awolowo would/should have actually gone to Ironsi,  but he was murdered.
Please change NCNC to NNDP. It was UPGA (NCNC and AG) against NNA (NPC, NNDP, NDC and United Middle Belt Congress)

Awo was to be sent to Nigerian prisons in Bauchi where a plan has already been hashed for the Hausa, Kanuri or Fulani prison officials to see to death of Awo in prison. However, some Igbo officials in high places resolved to send Awo to the east. It is very laughable to a conjecture that suggests Gowon released Awo from prison. During the era in discuss, Gowon and Nigeria have no iota of authority to send post-office mail to eastern region talk less of issuing an order to release Awo from prison. Even Gowon’s position as a doorman was not recognized in eastern region of Nigeria.

It was the likes of you that led the Igbos into war without any training whatsoever, with little (inferior) arms and ammunitions, with no real strategy or plan, watched them suffer and die at the mercy of the better equipped Nigerian Army while your uncle Ojukwu and his cronies were hiding in a fortified bunker in Umuahia, enjoying food, electricity and water. When the war came to a head, he fled the country only to be pardoned and he came home to a heroes reception, took the most beautiful girl (his best friends daughter) as a wife and has taken no responsibility or apologised for the lives lost in that useless war. YES!! I wish he suffers terribly before he dies in agony and pain. I pray his soul is rejected in heaven and he burns in the hottest part of hell. Thats how I feel and if you dont like it sir, well feel free to pop an artery.

Kidnappings started with the first batch of Niger Delta militants in the creeks who used it as a means of sending a message to the government. When it started out, they never demended a ransom. Well now all hell has been let loose, Warri, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom are now kidnapping everything that moves. TRUST ndi Igbo not to be left out. ABA joined the fray and brought a whole new twist to the game. Kidnapping an entire bus filled with little kids, how heartless can anyone be. That was my point sir. Aba got so mad that all the banks in the state closed up shop, thanks to ndi igbo. Aba's madness was so bad they had to station an APC at every intersection in Aba. Yes sir, Aba didnt start kidnapping but they sure as hell took it to the next level. Did you know that the first recorded case of a kidnap victim being killed was recorded in Aba? Yes, and that was after they had obtained the ransom!! I was in PH when the kidnapping saga got to its worst point, but Aba made Port-harcourt look like a bad disney world ride.

When I talked about helping my friends secure jobs, I didnt say that out of arrogance sir, It was in response to a question posed by Afam, and I did my best to respond with as much humility as I possibly could. I would have called you an honor graduate of kindergarten if your insinuation of war preparation or lack thereof was meant for independent Biafra, at least, two years before it was visited with war of attrition by Nigeria-led Gowon. As usual, I'll ignore the rest of your mindless and doodoo rants.

Before independence, we had our separate regions and were developing according to our various potentials and capabilities.

Before independence, ibo people had the opportunity to have their own biafra or whatever you people call it just by doing your own thing, it is also a fact that the SW didn't want any part of Nigeria or all 3 regions under the same umbrella called Nigeria.

Zik and ibo people obviously didn't like that idea so they teamed up with the North to take away your biafra dream from you years before ojukwu dumbly went to war to undo what Zik and ibo people saddled the whole of southern Nigeria with.

Zik and ibo people killed their own biafra dream years before it started, they killed southern Nigeria from the get go

ibo people again sent Nigerian on a blood letting spree when they slaughtered military and political leaders from other tribes, but spared their own kinsmen, even ZIK as the president of Nigeria was tipped off so he ran off to look at his own country boil out of control while sipping wine in a foreign country.

After the blood bath, Nigeria hopelessly handed power to another ibo man when the country asked Aguiyi-Irons to be the head of state and hoping to see justice and punishment dished out to the blood thirsty murderers and seditionists, the same new ibo head of state slapped Nigerians in the face by letting them go free which in turn led to the retaliatory massacre of ibo people up north.

Time and time again, ibo people are always displaying the fact that they ibo people have no set core principles, can not and never should be trusted, ibo people dug their own grave and are still digging it till this very minute.

in 1979, ibo people have the grand opportunity to rectify their errors and goofiness, but as usual, they ran under the northern malam's babariga just for another ibo man to be made another second fiddle via ekwueme who as usual, didn't transfer the dividends of his dubious encounter and vice presidency to his people back home.

Now, while the SW is staying true to it's core beliefs, sense of independence and self determination, ibo people are still lost, they are still looking for relevance with under the same northern  babariga.

The way I see it and according to your history, ZIK caused biafra because the option to form the state of biafra was on the table or shall I say in ibo people's hands, they didn't even have to fire one single bullet, but zik denied ibo people that opportunity so every time you clowns open mouth to talk about biafra or blame other people, first look in the mirror.

The same lack of self worth and identity that plagued you back then is still there till this very second.

That is your food for thought.
It will amount to disingenuous act on my part to label you an illiterate. You are not illiterate by mere insinuation. Probably the wanton disregard of recorded events in your usual juvenile rant is predicated on free education Awolowo introduced in western region of Nigeria.

Please take time off to disabuse your silly and bigotry mind and reread this conjectural crap you called post. When you regain human consciousness and give sound perusal to this junk, you will definitely shout Oti o! And probably ask how on earth you posted the incoherent rant.

At one point is all about Igbo and moment later is about Nigeria and country. After spending my precious time on the piece of junk you posted, I thought Igbo is Nigeria and country all in one.

In fact, I am surprised you are yet to foolishly insinuate shoes, sandals and slipper made in Aba were the major cause of joint pains and arthritis in Nigeria.

Have you momentarily asked yourself why are Nigerians so dormant in the face of worst socio-politico-economic oppression ever seen anywhere on earth? Let me tell you that the reason is hidden behind Nigeria/Biafra civil war. This is a food for thought.

Awo was premier of western region for only four (4) years and these whiners would want us to believe Awo was a magician. In fact, critical look at Ibadan, past or present, will tell the entire story any reasonable fellow would want to know about Awo.

I must reiterate without the federal government of Nigeria under Gowon, Awo was simply a mediocre.

And where is your proof? Instead of brandishing your usual rhetoric of falsehoods, present us with the proof for all to peruse. How many seats were won by NCNC in the 1951 regional election in western Nigeria and whilst at it, give us the names of the NCNC candidates that won these imaginary majority seats (41).
There is no doubt you can read the issue with you is comprehension. Zik might be one of the handfuls of Igbo candidates who won election into western regional house of assembly in 1951 under the platform of NCNC, the rest winners were Yoruba, Urhobo, Eshan, Itsekiri or Edo.

It was a simple fact Zik was the leader of NCNC hence would-be the leader of government and future premier of western region. I guess you realize carpet-crossing in the geographical expression known as Nigeria was tribal invention of Yoruba bigots. If the majority seat won by NCNC in western region during 1951 regional election was imaginary as you want us to believe, what necessitated the shameful carpet-crossing mainly by Yoruba in the western regional house of assembly?

Godspeed friend. I just had to remind you that last time you embarked on this journey, you got lost in the wilderness, barefoot and with little to eat. So tread carefully.
I got your gist, pal. It is once beaten, shy twice. It is already a new day with modern strategy. As you can guess, wilderness must be avoided and plenty of food abound.
