You are bunch of dreamers. Nigeria lost its innocence to embark on such revolutionary escapade in 1966 when the actions of few brave young men were turned into tribal machinations. Unfortunately, an attempt to ignite change within Nigerian society through the means of social chaos must be viewed through the ethnic prism.

After reading through some drivels posted by few deluded contributors, I resourcefully concluded the few that fell in the class of deluded contributors do not understand the meaning of some of words employed in their essays.

For example, they seemed to be lacking in the understanding of words such illiterate, literate, educated, trained and education. Please no fun intended because I drew the conclusion from the flagrant manner in which the words were used in their posts.

In addition, some of these know-it-all cyber genii seemed to negate the important role population or lack thereof plays in dispensation of democracy in particular and economy in general.

I could not believe the number of haters of Ndigbo that came out of wood-walk to audaciously attack the personality of the Senator from Ebonyi State and heavy-handedly impugned the character of the statesman.

I do not give a slightest hoot about the comments of the non-Igbo cretins that characterized the statement of Senator Agbo as sacrilegious. However, I am totally piqued by brainless and goofy comments towards the Senator from chaps that may called themselves Igbo.

Believe me, the aforementioned Senator might not be a prophet but his comments regarding the dwindling population of Ndigbo could be regarded as a lamentable gospel from the creator.

There are few incoherent drivels posted by couple of latent idiots whose main stock of trade is hatred for the Ndigbo. One such slowpoke alluded to a constituted public nuisance at Alaba market and another fool pointed out how the Ndigbo may have issues feeding their kids. What an irony of malign idiosyncrasy? Typical Igbo parents, if required, will crack palm kernel all day in the process of seeing their offspring through university studies. To these morons, I pledge that you jump off cliff and break a neck.

In the history of the cesspit called Nigeria, there is no healthy Igbo person that turned a pan-handler. But this could be said about certain ethnic groups in Nigeria and yet the men from these ethnicities are found with at least two or more wives. As always with case of Nigeria, some of loudmouthed maggots would feel happy to jump on the back of the Senator from Igboland but tend to keep blind eyes on the composition of the pan-handlers on the streets of Nigeria and its correlation with ethnicities other than Igbo.

In the lure of impending disintegration of the colonial contraption called Nigeria, the resultant nation states must engage in wars of attrition and expansionism. Ndigbo should need able bodied men to withstand the carnage that would trail the demise of the jungle called Nigeria. Olusegun Obasanjo alone could supply the Oduduwa Republic with a battalion of infantry soldiers and the same goes to Alhaji Atiku to Arewa. But Dr. Ekwueme could not supply the Igboland Repubulic with two soldiers.

My people say that Igwe bu ike.

I hope you are above 17 years of age. Please could you furnish the names of countries that merged and the resultant country that was formed due to the merger? The last time I checked though, countries are disintegrating such as USSR, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.

By the way, the Europeans formed their countries almost on the premises of ethnicity or tribal nations. The only thing that can eliminate the social malaises you have enumerated in your post is intensive nationalistic patriotism. A country such as Nigeria that remains as the epitome of fused nations can not and will never engender such wave of nationalistic patriotism.

Politics › Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by Dede1(m): 1:37pm On Oct 03, 2009
bandely:
Well you may say Zik selfish and he is even more tribalistic than Awo.

West African Pilot (Newspaper) been a popular newspaper then was used by Zik tribalistically.

When the agitation against the 'cocoa pool' was raging, Zik showed no interest. Also when the ban on palm kernels was imposed, the Pilot supported it. Said the Pilot:
", the measure by the Government is fair. Instead of reducing the whole country into poverty, only the Western Provinces will be affected and they can switch over to other avenues to make body and soul live."

As a result of his indifference to these two economic crises, which threatened the livelihood of the Western Region.
In other circumstances, Dr. Zik would have dipped his pen in gall, as was his wont, and on the pages of the Pilot, would have denounced the 'cocoa pool' as an 'imperialist device or strategem whose aim, object or purpose was to oppress, repress, depress and distress Nigeria cocoa producers and dealers economically'. In the same manner, he woul have vehemently declaim the ban on palm kernels in the western porvince.

An article written by Zik published on the front page of the Pilot, and entitled 'Football Illiad, 1940 Edition' shocked many people.

A football team composed of students of the Christ King's College, Onitsha came to Lagos to paly a 'Win the war' football match against St Gregory's college. The CKC team from Onitsha defeated St. Gergory's team by 5 goals to 4. To the ordinary man in the street, let alone the highly sophisticated elements, there was nothing extraordinary or unusual in in one school or college defeating another in a game of soccer. But not so with Dr. Zik. He saw in the sporting exploits and triumph of the team from Onitsha the inherent superiority of the easterners over thier opponent and he went to very great pains to establish this fact, by means of careful choosing words and emphasis. These extracts from the article are relevant:

"And to think of the great combination if tge Spartan heroes who crossed the lordly niger, journeyed through the good earht of Benin, hurried across the domains of the Oshemawe of Ondo, of the Atanla of Owo, of the Owa of Ilesha, of the Oni of Ife, of the Alake of Abeokuta in their invasion of these islands!
Who, but heroes of mighty brawn and exceptionally developd brain would have dared to make this invasion and to succeed in carrying to their River Niger home, the Golden Fleece of Inter-Collegiate Soccer Championship of the Eastern and Western Provinces?
Yet they came to Lagos, they saw the irresistible defence put up by their opponents, and they conquered impressively, convincingly, and were graceful even in victory!
Could their achievement be paralleled?
Would it not be better for me to leave the anser to the laps of the gods?"

On 24 August 1940, the same CKC team played the Olubadan XI in another 'Win the War' match. The CKC were beaten 3-2 by the Olubadan XI which were and undiluted Yoruba team. Nothing was written on the Pilot. It was after there had been clamours in the Daily Service, in form of letters to the editor, that the news of this Ibadan match was published some 2 weeks after and it was a small item on the back page. It iwas explained in it that CKC team were already tired and that some of them in fact limpimg, before they went into the field against Olubadan XI. This was of course untrue.

Some of the manners which Zik gave the achievement of the Ibo are these"

* 'Ibo Young man to Sail to U.k.' is the heading of a frontpage story and picture on September 23, 1938. The young man is Mr. Jaja Wachukwu. (Former Speaker of Nigeria 's House of Representives

* '14th West African Student, 10th Nigerian, 8th Ibo in U.S.A'
Another front page story on January 28, 1939. The 8th Ibo was Nwafor Orizu.

*'Ibo Medical student passes In First Class Honours.'
Yet another front page story, on June 26, 1940, of the brilliant success of Dr. S.O Egwuatu.

These are few examples, but against these, the achievement of Yoruba particularly and, in particular, the academic laurels of their scholers received, if at all, inconspicous notice in the Pilot.
Example, As late as 1945, two Nigerian law students iof Cambridge Univeristy, one Yoruba and one Ibo, passed the Law Tripos Examination. The Yoruba passed with Second class honours (Upper Division), and the Ibo also passed with Second class honour but with lower division. The latter got front page publicity in the Pilot, but the former got a small space given to him on the back page a few days after the report of his Ibo colleague had appeared. As for oustanding Yoruba public men, there were all of them daubed ad 'imperialist stooges' and 'Uncle Toms'.

There are still more examples. But I do like to stop here.
Let me applaud your ability to copy and paste as well as the inferior zeal to dig for facts. Your canny ability to indulge in a brazen deceitful joke could not entice the history hunger of a third grader.

If you really want to copy the work of unknown individuals, please try very hard to check the veracity of such essays. What you pitched about Mr. Jaja Wachukwu was teetering on lunatic propaganda stunt as you labored to score a cheap political point. By 1929 firmed Aba Women’s riot, Jaja Wachukwu was already a practicing lawyer at a very young age and represented the women in court. When wrote about a student that journeyed abroad in 1938 and mentioned Jaja Wachukwu, I guess he was returning to London for more studies.

It is a shameful drawback on your scholarly erudition that you remembered everything, including the quotations of Zik on the front pages of West African Pilot, the matches evolving the Christ Kings College boys from Onitsha, St Gregory College, Lagos and adulterated Ibadan XI, the school attended by two young Nigerians; one Yoruba the other Igbo, the class honors in which they graduated in law as the imaginary Yoruba chap bettering the imaginary Igbo chap but what woefully escaped your memory were the names of these two chaps.

I shell bet you that there were Igbo boys that played for St. Gregory College, Lagos against the Christ Kings College, Onitsha. I also guess that common sense is no longer common with respect to your post.

I have to come in now. you are wrong. In the 1951 election.

Awolowo party won and not NCNC.
it is only people trying to manipulate history.

For the record of history. here are the names of those who won the election and thier parties

There were a total of 80 seat to win. The action group lead by chief obafemi awolowo won 38 seat , while the NCNC won 25, IPP 6, Ondo Improvement League 2, Otu Edo candidates 3

Action Group that won

Ijebu Remo – Obafemi Awolowo and M.S. Sowole; Ijebu Ode – Rev. SA Banjo and S.O. Awokoya; Oyo – Bode Thomas, Abiodun Akerele, ABP Thomas, TA Amao and SB Eyitayo; Osun – S.L. Akintola, J.O. Adigun, JA Oroge, S.I. Ogunwale, I.A. Adejare, J.A. Ogunmuyiwa and S.O. Ola.

Egba – J.F. Odunjo, Alhaji AT Ahmed, Rev. S.A. Daramola and Prince Adedamola; Egbado (now Yewa) – J.A.O. Odebiyi, D.A. Fafunmi and A. Akin Illo; Ekiti – E.A. Babalola and Rev. J. Three card carry members of action Adegbenro, Osuntokun and Hassan ran as independents candidate. The all won and voted for action group while Chief Akinloye lead IPP four members cross over to the Action group

AMA Akinloye, Chief DT Akinbiyi ,Chief SO Lanlehin, Moyosore Aboderin and SA Akinyemi,

The only members of the NCNC that cross carpet were
were: Chief SY Kesington-Momoh( auchi), JG Ako(Urhobo), and Awodi Orisaremi
You are a disgrace to your stock. Like father like son. If you really want to post an article off Wiki, you should post the entirety of the article not cutting the sections that satisfy your ignoramus fancy.

Where are the names of Chief Fani-kayode and Prince Adeleke Adedoyin? Ordinary arithmetic posed a menace to your empty skull. When the election polls of September 1951 were closed, AG was surprisingly shocked to have only won 29 seats out of 80.

However at the end of November 1951 due to slow process of filing election papers, AG has ethnically coaxed all the small parties and independent candidates that ran under the platform of NCNC to switch allegiance to AG. Yet the rank of AG could only swell to 38 still without clear majority.

If AG won the election as you would want us to believe, why should candidates that detested the political agenda of AG, contested and defeated AG candidates suddenly switched to AG? During Zik’s birthday bash, Chief AMA Akinloye even apologized to Zik stating that AG and majority of Yoruba people did not want Igbo person or non-Yoruba to become the first premier of western region.

A deluded monkey such as could not even discern from the article you copied and posted was not referring to the regional independence as regions becoming independent sovereign nations.

But it was intended to cede autonomous powers to regions so as to conduct the affairs of the regions independent of the government at the center. However, by the time the 1954 constitutional conference was concluded, the attendees had agreed on the principles of devolution of powers between central and regional government hence federalism.

I suggest that a latent idiot such as you should endeavor to read beyond tribal line about Nigerian politics. Anyway, advising a fool is like beating the air with a stick.

The 1954 Western Elections - which was won by the NCNC under Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe ("Zik.’). But after a meeting of the Egbe Omo Oduduwa, several Yoruba NCNC legislators suddenly "crossed carpet" to the Action Group (AG) under Chief Obafemi Awolowo, thereby effectively preventing Zik from becoming the first premier of Western Nigeria. Hurt and dejected, Zik returned to the East, where he promptly displaced Prof. Eyo Ita from the premiership of the region. This helped fuel the anger and disloyalty of the eastern minority elements, who soon organized to demand the creation of a COR state. This was the beginning of tribalism in Nigerian politics.

The 1959 Federal Elections - in which none of the three major parties (NPC, NCNC and AG) won a clear majority, but the NPC had the most seats, followed by the NCNC. To prevent the northerners (a.k.a. the NPC) from having the first shot at the prime Ministership of Nigeria with so much executive power concentrated there, Awo proposed that the NCNC (i.e. the Igbos) and the AG (i.e. the Yorubas) should form a coalition so as to have the first shot at ruling at the center. But Zik, still pe eved at what happened to him in 1954, would not have anything to do with Awo. Instead he teamed up with the NPC to form the first Federal government of an independent Nigeria on October 1 1960. Thus, the Igbos became the junior partner in a Federal govern ment where they would have been the senior partner had Zik agreed to a coalition with the Yorubas.

"A LETTER TO THE NDIGBO: Cutting Our Nose to Spite Our Face" in Nigerian Times International, January 16-31, 1996

By Chief Eke Urum-Eke[/b

Again, when the British Colonial Government tempted the appetite of the Nigerian political leadership with the offer of quasi-independence, through full blown regional autonomy in 1957, Northern Nigeria, led by the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) took the position that the North was not ready for that level of political and economic independence. [b]The Western Region, led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Action Group (AG) promptly declared its readiness to accept the offer. It was the Igbo-led NCNC that held the balance.
It was an issue that could make or break Nigeria if the three regions chose to go their separate ways to Independence.

The NCNC leader, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe took the stand that although the Eastern Region was ready to assume the responsibilities of Regional Independence, its attainment without the North would lead, in his own words, to the “Balkanization of the Nigerian Nation” and conceivably a break-up of the country. The Eastern Region would rather suppress its appetite for Independence and the obvious gains it would entail until the Northern Region was ready. That was how Nigerian Independence was delayed until 1960. In short, the Igbo-led Eastern Region would rather forgo the advancement of its own political and economic interests than risk the break-up of Nigeria. Similarly, when Zik moved to the Federal scene as Governor General and later titular President of Nigeria, the NCNC, under the leadership of Dr. Michael Okpara, of blessed memory, continued faithfully in Zik’s giant and indelible foot steps, the political bridge-building and nation building enterprise of the Igbo.

The state of the Nation
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu "HERO"

the Igbo-led NCNC shunned the attraction of being the senior partner in an East-West Alliance with Chief Awolowo’s Action Group (AG) and chose to team up instead with Sir Ahmadu Bello’s Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) in order to consolidate the frail and insipid attachment of a wary and sceptical North to Southern Nigeria.

The sources you posted as the official document that spurred your idiocy to announce that Zik did not team up with Awo clearly showed that you are most moronic idiot. A slowpoke such as could have posted this crap you have submitted as evidence of Zik not teaming up with Awo. I would not even try to educate you because you are lazy fool who lacked courage to read beyond the pages posted by other morons.

There were 1951 regional election and 1954 federal election. In the 1954 federal election, NCNC defeated AG in western regional pools by 23 to 18 elected members to federal house of representative. The carpet-crossing saga alluded in the post you copied from a fellow slowpoke took place after regional election in which NCNC trounced AG. During the 1954 constitutional conference to cede regional authority to the regions saw a break in alliance between Awo and Azik. It was over the status of Lagos as an autonomous entity instead of a territory of western region.

Zik did not remove Eyo Ita as the head of government in eastern region of Nigeria. During the said period, Zik was not even a member of the regional house of assembly in eastern region talk less of removing head of the government.

Didn't Zik stalled with the North and end up teaming up with the North to lay the foundation for our sorry state of affairs?

We all know it's absolutely impossible to get things done with the North in the mix, just look at today's PDP, same nonsense was going on when ZIK joined them decades ago.

Now, what was Awolowo supposed to do? Sit on his hands and not fulfill his charged obligation to take care of and look after his people, especially after other folks refused to join him and go join other incompetent people.

Like or dislike the man, he did his job by actualizing his campaign promises, he took care of his region and served his people and dignified the oath he took. He built and started lots of firsts in Nigeria and Africa. Decades after, his achievements is still moving the Nation forward.

The industrial estate he built is still the only major industrial estate in our country. Successive incompetent administrations are yet match, emulate and capitalize on what the man accomplished in less than 7 years (from 1952 to 1959).

The question now is, what if the man was left alone and regional administration was never terminated? Wetin the west go look like?
