I loved watching Icheoku when I was home. . . Dede, thanks for making me laugh at your grammatical perry-perry!
Contrary to the state of your amused mind, flair and adherence to protocol were overtly observed. Actually, I was not in a drunken state of mind when typing my posts. It was just that some folks tend to manipulate issue on nairaland forum purely based on ethnic prism baring any form of logic. |
babapupa:There is no doubt that you are a lazy fool that is blinded to the idiocy of ethnic bias. Lift your moronic self and attempt to feast those myopic eyes to constructive research. You can jump off the cliff for all I care, but I must reiterate that all the returnees claimed ethnicity based on whatever that informed their thought. |
@pcocero Simply debating the ups and downs of the conference held in Aburi, Ghana drove you to a drunken state of imbecility. If we dabble into the nuances of the battles between the two armies, I am sure you would be drowned in the sea of momentary insanity. At least, you remained informed that eastern region would have defeated any region of Nigeria baring the help from Britain and other significant countries. I would categorically and unequivocally state that in any form of spiral of arms between whatever ethnic group that gave rise to a dumb ass such as you and Ndigbo, your hopeless ethnicity that you are very ashamed to mention will cease to exist. I have no qualms about the outcome of Nigeria/Biafra civil war since the attrition of the event reiterated the fact that Ndigbo are group of people to be reckoned even in defeat. I would have been ashamed if Biafra was defeated by Nigeria with its military wherewithal baring huge military and diplomatic help from Britain, Australia, Egypt, USSR, Arab League of Nations, Niger Republic, Cameroon and Chad Republic. You are not only a malcontent dullard but an intellectual midget that do deserve any form of attention. |
vangogh:I stand my statement when I wrote that Samuel Ajayi Crowther claimed to be Yoruba. How could a boy who does not even know his native full name remember the month and year he was born? The fact remains the period of his birth as quoted for Crowther is at best conjecture. There was no any form of birth registry at the jungle were the said Crowther was born and the inhabitants of such geographical spot did know that years and days were named as we know them today. |
pcicero:The moment I read the poster’s attempt to analogically juxtapose United States of America’s civil war and its aftermath to that of Nigeria/Biafra civil war, I deduced that the poster is an irredeemable fool. The Americans have memorialized the names of the fallen soldiers of the Confederacy in the capital city of Washington, DC and yet this imbecilic slowpoke is being twisted out of human form that conference held in Aburi, Ghana is being revisited. |
ow11:The act of referring second hand clothing as Okrika preceded the Nigeria/Biafra civil. It would not be surprise if Okrika people really embarked on smuggling second hand clothing into Biafra as a token toward the war effort on the part of Biafra. The relationship between Ndigbo and Okrirka is above the politics of divide and rule the outsiders have tried to inject. |
@okokomeji I have no intentions to reply to goofy posts. However if such posts devoid of truth and intellect were allowed to pass without rebuttal, morons such as you would mistake them as gospel. I have observed that you edited this post from the previous ones. Did you realize that first person out of the protectorates to earn PhD was Nnedum Okonkwo. Both Crowther and Marculaey were not Yoruba but claimed Yoruba due the fact that freed slaves from Freetown found their way to Lagos. For the sake of posterity, Macaulay did not alone found NNDP. He accomplished the feat with individuals such Mr. Egerton-shyngle, Dr CC Adeniyi-Jones (Sierra Leoneans), Bars. Eric Moore and J. C. Zizer (Sierra Leonean). He was not even president of party. The National Youth Movement founded by H.O. Davis (returnee) Dr. J C Vaughan (returnee) Dr. Kofo Abayomi (returnee) Mr. Ernest S Ikoli, Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe and Mr. O. Awolowo defeated NNDP during the Lagos Town Council election of 1938. It is the factions of National Youth Movement and NNDP that gave rise to NCNC 1944 with Haerbart Macaulay as the president and Zik the national secretary. |
Ateke in yoruba is also a yoruba word. Okrika people were the first people to start importing and selling second cloth in Nigeria. And go and ask any nigerian, what language were they speaking. they would tell you it was not Ijaw but Igbo. They were speaking Igbo. And anywhere in nigeria, they call second hand cloth Okrika. Have you seen any nigerian call second hand cloth by the name Ijaw before, No. It goes by Okrika. I have to go , see you later in the day. when i come back.
This is a conjectural nonsense. The Abriba folks were first to import second hand clothing into Nigeria as well as West Africa. As for the Okrika being referred as second hand clothing goes beyond the history of Okrika but Ijo in general. |
During the time when Nigerian police was respectable and honorable force, the uniform of officers from junior inspector to inspector general of police was different from the uniform worn by the rank and file, thus, sergeants to constables. The era saw Nigerian police with different uniforms for different occasions. There is nothing about segregation with different uniforms for officers and other ranks. Even in USA, several metropolitan police departments have different dress code for officers and other ranks. |
It is a welcome idea that Nairaland forum residents are attempting to apply critical but practical analysis to the possible issue of disintegration of the cesspit called Nigeria. The insidious political machination that happened in 1966, when the northern Nigerian political and military elites hoodwinked many southern Nigerian political and military goons, baring Igbo, Ibibio, Ogoni, Anaang and Ijo of eastern region to join the war of attrition against Biafra, would not happen. I am not sure what would happen during the future integration of the colonial contraption call Nigeria. However, there could be battles for territorial expansionism and outright subjugation that may occur if normal ethno-linguistics and affinity of the people in certain areas failed to accomplish the merger. Also, there could be a factor of old regional affiliations. It is very true as Beaf had stated in his previous post that the Igbo/Biafra republic would not remain dormant as the Christians in Plateau and Southern Kaduna are being massacred by the Islamic fundamentalists. In all the scenarios, the Yoruba/Oduduwa Republic would be a weak link. This is partly because of their belief, ethnicity and region. The collusion of Islam and Christianity would be very tempting as Kwara State may become a battle ground on both scores. Also, there is no doubt that many people of Yoruba extractions firmly believed that the present state of Nigeria had benefited them and would want to stick with the nonsensical One-Nigeria slogan. Another protracted and cantankerous issue would emerge from the Old Mid-western region. This old region has many small ethnic groups that would be subjected to the political machination of push/pull from Yoruba/Oduduwa, Igbo/Biafra and Hausa-Fulani-Kanuri-Nupe/Arewa Republics. The only sure thing that may happen would be the entire Igbo/Delta would join their brethren in Igbo/Biafra. The question remains which sovereign umbrella would the people of Edo, Urhobo, Ishan, Ijo of Mid-western region, Itsekiri and inhabitants of Auchi tend to gravitate? |
Ibime:I hinted you about some places being mosquito-infested swamps in Rivers State. The only warlord in Ijo is a resident fisherman. ![]() On a serious note, I do not want any form of fracas between Okirika-Ijo and Ikwerre-Igbo in Rivers State or anywhere else. This is the time of harmony and camaraderie to flourish among these people - Ijo of eastern region of Nigeria and Ndigbo because the colonial contraption called Nigeria is teetering on collapse. |
@Duduknight You are yet to learn the intrigues involved in correspondence. Whenever you are using someone’s work in essay, you must try to give credit to the originator of such idea even if the originator is credible or not. I have remained one of the critics of Nowa Omogiue methods in presenting facts because a blind man could see whose interest the esteem writer seemed to serve. By the same token, I had also praised the job Nowa did while providing the window of opportunity to many people to understand the era of pre and post 1966 saga in the colonial contraption known as Nigeria. The civil war has been fought and won. The skewing of the history of Nigeria in order to justified misguided steps by those who would have ordinarily work with Ndigbo for the betterment of the cesspit called Nigeria is naive politically. Brigadier B. Ogundipe showed a classic unprofessional demeanor that was unbecoming of a soldier during the July 29, 1966 countercoup. It is not for me to judge what informed his decision to run but it was certainly not about Yoruba lacking in the number of soldiers in Nigeria army. Believe me, other than eastern region of Nigeria and Ndigbo in particular, western region of Nigeria had the best group of army officers in Nigerian army of 1966. In less than six month of Brig. Ogundipe’s scampering to Dahomey, the Yoruba officers and NCOs constituted the main bulk of not only 2nd Division of Nigerian army but owned the 3rd Marine Commando Division of Nigerian army. If Lt. Col. F Fajuiyi was not purposefully eliminated by the perpetrators of July 29, 1966 coup, there would have been no place for most of the political shenanigans spreading all over the cesspit called Nigeria today. |
@http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2009/oct/17/national-17-10-2009-001.htm The posted text scripts of the interview accredited to one Gen Mobolaji Johnson is the most goofy, insincere, treacherous and insensitive piece I have ever read. The war has been fought and won. This spinning job looks like a child’s play. Nigeria still has time to metamorphous into oblivion. By the same token, the backstabbers would be served with retributions. Again, this is a match of different beats. Ojukwu agreed that Gowon should be the Head of State and commander in chief if the decision-making should rest on the SMC with no veto power to the Head of State. Also, that central and regional structure of government shall remain the same. However, this was not the case because Gowon and cohorts had already partitioned the country into states before going to Aburi, Ghana. The show of shame displayed in Aburi, Ghana by the Nigerian side was a mere charade that amounts to despicable and deceitful demeanor that still shadow the cesspit called Nigeria till today. |
maxsiollun:It very ludicrous to read that a trained combatant officer in Major Hassan Katsina had to confront mobs of killers that consisted northern Nigerian civilians and soldiers as if he was going to quell a third grade pranks. There were 3NA, 5NA and 1st Recce Squadron, NMTC and 1st Bde stationed in northern region and yet the governor displayed nonchalant attitude towards the precarious situation faced by defenseless and innocent easterners in the hands of well armed civilians and soldiers of northern region Nigeria. I do not need to read your book because there was no instance where the military governor for northern region of Nigeria made any attempt to stop the orgy of killing in the region. Citing the comment Ojukwu made about Katsina and the brazen display of incompetence by the army unit commanders of northern Nigerian officers would not change the fact that Katsina and those unit commanders were cohorts in the massacre of innocent southern Nigerians in general and easterners in particular. It is very unsettling that you have attested to the fact that some unit commanders in northern region ran away from their command posts during the 1966 pogrom that took place in the northern region of Nigeria. These attitudes of unprofessionalism displayed by the officers from northern region lend credence to the fact that most of them were not even qualified to be in the army talk mush of being an officer. There were many Tiv riots of that era and different army units were used to quell the chaos. It must be recalled that each military unit involved had to be subjected to critical examination of tribalism and political patronage by the Balewa administration. The units such 3NA, 5NA and Recce Squadron were used under the commanding officers such as Majors Onwuatuegwu, Ademoyega, Anuforo, Katsina and Lt. I. Babangida. There was no intent to insult you in my previous post but it was all sarcasm. I apologize if you felt offended. |
maxsiollun:This is one of the ridiculous crap I had to read from this board and more so from a person with Nigerian historical pedigree such as Maxsiollun. Major Hassan Katsina, as the military governor of northern region, stood steward to one of the heinous act of man’s inhumanity aganist mankind in the annals of Nigeria history. I would want you to furnish us with the instances where Major Hassan Katsina attempted to stop the orgy of massacre of southerners, particularly Ndigbo, during the pogrom of 1966. Katsina was the military governor that was overseeing a region fraught with military installations and yet he looked the other way when the killings were going. The only instance Lt. Col. Katsina was accredited with such compassion took place when was returning from Lagos afte meeting with Maj. Gen. Ironsi about the decree #34. The rumor had it that Katsina had been detained in Lagos by Ironsi. However, when his touched at Kano airport, the northern region soldiers had surrounded the airport. It was alleged that Lt Chris Ugokwe, ADC to Katsina, was trying exit the plane before his boss. At this juncture, rumor had it the Katsina urged his ADC to step back because he could be shot. |
maxsiollun:Major Chris Anuforo was commander of Recce Squadron Jos. The premier of northern region of Nigeria requested that both army and police deal ruthlessly with the rioters, mainly Tiv, who were the supporters of the UMBC. Instead, Major Chris Anuforo ordered the soldiers and police to arrest the supporters of NPC and release all the Tiv rioters arrested. The premier felt shunned by the young Major and sought the help of the 1st Brigade commander, Brigadier Samuel Ademulegun, to transfer Major Chris Anuforo out of 1st Recce Squadron to 2nd Recce Squadron, Abeokuta then Army HQ, Lagos. In place of Major Anuforo was Major Katsina as commander of 1st Recce Squadron that saw the massacre of Tiv people during riot of 1964. The link below would corroborate that Major Hassan Katsina was the commander of 1st Recce Squadron, Jos, even though the article indicated Kaduna. http://www.dawodu.com/katsina1.htm "Initially a platoon commander in the 2nd Battalion, he was later reposted to the demonstration platoon at the NMTC in Kaduna, as commander. " In 1961, he served in the Congo as an Intelligence officer. The following year, in 1962, he underwent further advanced infantry training in the United States after which he became company commander in the 5th Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Kano. When the Recce unit of the Army was created, Hassan was among the earliest Nigerians to be trained in Britain on the use of "Ferrets" in armored reconnaissance warfare, the others being Majors Christian Anuforo and John Obienu. As of the night of January 14/15 1966, Hassan was commanding the 1 Recce Squadron in Kaduna, while Obienu was commanding the 2 Recce squadron in Abeokuta, and Anuforo was the staff officer representing Recce interests at the Army HQ in Lagos.” |
Duduknight:Please do your research before coming on the net to expose your ignorance. Ogundipe did not flee. The northern soldiers started their mutiny and took over the cantonment. Murtala, Adamu, Joe garba were all in Ikeja cantonment; they had no means of escape and had in fact commandeared an airforce plane to move their families out of the west. Ogundipe sent two units to quell the coup; both units were ambushed, one at Mobolaji Bank-Anthony way, Ikeja and the second at Bonny. Ogundipe, realising that there was a stalemate sent Gowon (who was with Ogundipe when making plans to quell the coup) to the coup-plotters at Ikeja to arrange dialogue and peaceful surrender. Talking about insult, if you look closely to the above statements, I am sure you would agree that they did come from me. Believe me, I did not insult you but stated the obvious. You were the person who quoted Nowa Omogiue without either crediting the writer or checking the veracity of the statements. In addition, you audaciously stated that the likes of Obasanjo, Ademoyega and Adekunle had corroborated the crap you lifted from Nowa’s ill-intended scripts. For posterity sake, I should remind you that Obasanjo, Ademoyega and Adekunle were not even 100 miles to Lagos when the incident leading to the fallacy about Ogundipe sending military units to quell the mutiny of July 29, 1966 took place. Major Obasanjo was in Kaduna as second in command to artillery unit, Major Ademoyega was in prison at Enugu due to his involvement with January 15, 1966 coup and Major Adekunle was stationed Enugu with 1st Battalion. I must say that any statements accredited to these three officers toward Ogundipe’s saga at the Brigade of Guards headquarter were as good a guess as mine. |
Duduknight:Why should any Igbo person waste time rebutting Nowa Omoguie’s conjectural crap? I must tell you that few rebuttals forwarded by Ndigbo to Nowa Omogiue’s conjectural rubbish had led to massive editing efforts on the part of Nowa. Nowa Omogiue was one of loudest exponents of the falsehood perpetrated by western region of Nigerian government publication of 1967 that blatantly lied about Lt. Col. F. Fajuyi opting to die with Ironsi. It was the same Nowa Omogiue that set the ball rolling on the ground that Nigeria had only five graduates in the Nigerian Armed Forces by 1966. No less a person than Nowa Omogiue claimed that a Biafran army unit massacred innocent citizen at a rubber plantation in mid-west region. When he was taken to the task to furnish the name of the Biafran army unit and commander of the unit that committed the atrocity, Nowa Omogiue, just as you, fell like a park of cards. I should give Nowa Omogiue full credit for creating a lazy disciple such as you. Nowa failed in his evil machination to inform you that Nigerian constitution in 1966 does not have provision for executing coup plotters and definitely not for a position of Deputy Prime Minister. |
@KnowAll Reading some stuffs from you and your fellow thick scull colleagues on this forum exposes the reasons Nigeria is a cesspit. Please be informed that northern region premier, Ahmadu Bello, was never in the chain of command of Nigeria army. As a regional premier, he might have the power to influence the military commander’s decision as in the case of Brigadier Samuel Ademulogum’s transfer of Major Chris Anuforo from Jos Recce Squadron to Army HQ, Lagos. The premier has absolutely no power to issue direct orders to military commands. There was never a time in history of Nigeria that Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa was addressed as Command-in-Chief of Armed Forces. The only persons ever addressed as such were either the Presidents or Heads of State. @Duduknigth There was never a time Ogundipe send any military unit to quell the mutiny in July 29, 1966. If Ogundipe had sent a unit, I would appreciate it if you could furnish the strength of the military unit dispatched by Ogundipe, thus, platoon, company or battalion. In addition, I would also like to know the names and the ranks of the officers commanding these counter-mutiny units sent by Brigadier Ogundipe. The only order issued by Ogundipe was to a Sergeant to gather a platoon out of the elements of the Brigade of Guards. If you are bent on regurgitating Nowa Omogiue’s crap, I suggest you seek a second opinion. |
KnowAll:It appears you knew little about military parlance in particular and history of Nigeria in general. Let me call your diminishing memory to Tiv riot of 1964. The supporters of NPC and UMBC were engaged in political mayhem in Jos and surrounding regions. The premier of northern region of Nigeria, Ahamdu Bello, requested the commander of 3rd Recce Squadron, Jos to order soldiers from his unit to shoot on sight the supporters of UMBC. But young Major Chris Anuforo would have none of such crap from the premier instead he ordered the arrest of the NPC supporters who were main source of the political mayhem. This single action of the young major in arresting the NPC supporters piqued the premier who contacted the Brigade Command, Brig. Samuel Ademolegun, requesting that the young Igbo major be transferred to HQ in Lagos. In the place of the Major Chris Anuforo was the Major Hassen Katsina who ordered the elements of 3rd Recce Squadron to shoot the supporters of UMBC during the 1964 Tiv riot, hence, the massacre of Tiv in 1964 by the elements of Nigerian army. |
KnowAll:I guess you realized that Aburi conference preceded the declaration of independent state of Biafra. And let me remind you that you have indicated a degree of happiness over the statement accredited to Major Hassen Katsina on the phantom friendship that existed between the north, west and mid-west regions. According to you and goofy Katsina, if there was no comradeship between the axis of evil and eastern region of Nigeria, why would the evil axis led by Gowon perpetrate a war of attrition on a region that was already alienated by north, west and mid-west regions? |
@KnowAll If Hassan Katsina was even smart as a third grader, the Major Katsina and his five stooges should have stayed home instead of making fool of them selves in Aburi, Ghana. There was nothing indicating that Katsina, Adebayo and Ejoor had pre-Aburi meeting at the regional level to commit to the idea of One-Nigeria where supreme leadership of Nigeria should be ceded to northern region of Nigeria. The camaraderie you have willfully referenced in your post and supposedly embraced by Katsina was born out of cowardice, idiocy, treachery and lack of political vision among the two stooges-Adebayo and Ejoor. Just as you have rightfully pointed out in your skewed posts, the axis of camaraderie and friendship does not include eastern region of Nigeria and should not have been persecuted for opting out of cesspit called Nigeria. Did British know about existence of this axis of friendship that excluded eastern region of Nigeria? |
@KnowAll We are not dealing on a fictional drama written by one sex-starved punk and acted out by bunch of loonies. Nigerian issues of 1966 were real and aged-long socio-political differences among groups of people fused together by colonialist political interest. Please stop referencing to the crap called Godfather movie. An officer such as Major Hassan Katsina remains one of the reasons that saw the January 15, 1966 coup. He commended 3rd Racce Squadron, Jos that brutally murdered many Tiv during 1964 riot. Katsina knew that northern region was not a match to eastern region in any form of spirals of arms, hence, shameful utterances such we, the north, west and Mid-west. The easterners had expected the buffoon to say that we, the northern region of Nigeria, will fight the ceded eastern region. If you are bent on given Hassan Katsin any iota of kudos in reneging on Aburi accord, you must as well as accept fact that southern Nigerians, baring easterners, were unforgivable cowards and treacherous backstabbers. |
@ndu_chuks When I am engaged in a debate that tends to dig for the truth and factual facts about the pre and post colonial era of the cesspit called Nigeria, I maintain zero tolerance for acute stupidity. The intellectual exercises that abound on this forum are geared toward educational purposes and to disabuse the minds of certain cretins that had cut a niche for culpable laziness while seeking the correct answers. I shall not take kindly to individual opinions predicated upon innuendos and fallacies. For example, one of your foolhardy essays about crude oil or lack thereof in Igbo land was teetering more on idiocy than factual history of crude oil exploration in the jungle called Nigeria. If you publicly reduce yourself to level of dirt, please do not plead innocence if stepped upon as everybody does to sand. |
@Lagman @ndu_chuks @gowaga68 @duabbba @okunoba @dayokanu I had to applaud the above listed trolls for displaying maximum idiocy and scintillating ignorance of the facts through their posts. For example, one of these suckers posted torrents of Yoruba extractions as the first Nigerians to emerge from certain human endeavors. What a joke? The punk listed Fatai Rotimi Williams as the first stupid and inconsequential SAN. Please be informed that when Rotimi Williams was a political thug with the Action Group, legal luminaries such Daddy Onyeama (QC) and G. U. Onyeuke (QC) were litigating cases at highest courts in UK. Rotimi Williams was not even qualified to argue a case before Daddy Onyeama as the presiding judge in the case where Balewa government insisted in confiscating National Bank belonging to WNDC. Daddy Onyaama was the first African to seat on the International Court, Hague. The dude wrote the following rubbish, “first woman to lead a resistance --Mrs. Ransome Kuti: The protest of Richards Constitution of 1946”. There is nothing furthest from the truth than this crap. The Aba riot of 1929 was the first woman resistance to colonial rule in Africa and it was not led by Mrs Kuti. One of these dimwits wrote that Ojukwu sized power and led millions of innocent people to death. When virtue gives way to idiocy, ignorance takes the place of literacy. Ojukwu was appointed the military governor of eastern region by the legitimately constituted government of federal republic of Nigeria. Yet two of these moronic imbeciles do not even know the history of crude oil exploration in Nigeria but were foolishly spurred to contribute arrant conjectures to the debate in order to voice their hatred for Ndigbo. It does not worth my time responding to some of these fools that were fortunate to have access to Internet. But keeping mute would lend credence to their junks hence de facto truth. Nigeria is a colonial political stupidity and must be deconstructed. |
rethink:@rethink You could not be more wrong with this forgettable post. The soldiers did not have personal problems that called for coup d’état. One of the cardinal reasons for undertaking of the coup was the introduction of ethnic bias and nepotism into Nigerian army by the northern Nigerian political elites with the help of British colonists There was nothing fraudulent about the soldiers serving with UN peace mission in Congo. It will make my day to remind you that not all soldiers that served in Congo UN peace mission were involved in the coup. Again, the military men are trained to lead fellow men in battle and defend the sovereignty of their country. I hope you are not insinuating that since soldiers are trained combatants that they lacked financial and bookkeeping acumen. The likes of Abacha, Dimka, Babangida, Buka, Haruna and Nuhu constituted the core elements of nepotism introduced into Nigerian army by the northern Nigerian political elites that ignited the January 15, 1966 coup. I would not trade the issue of philosophy concerning dream with you but must add that nothing good comes out of either night dreaming or day dreaming. Good things come out of constructive and intuitive reasoning. You must realize that misguided youths who shunned the virtues of past recorded events also gave rise to parasitic elites. If you can overcome yourself, then you can overcome ethnic sentiments. Ethnicity gives rise to nation and a nation made up of the same ethnic orientations erases any form of ethnicity. |
okunoba:This is one of the most ill-informed drivel I have to read on this forum. This is a making of a slowpoke. Like father like son is a trait time can not distort. You do not have to berate Ojukwu on your disjointed sketch because of the ineptness of your forbearers to standup against the aggressors whose stock of trade is hatred for people with serious ambition. You would have been all smiles if Ojukwu had borrowed leaves from your forbearers that displayed remarkable sense of cowardice by prostrating before and fighting for the same miscreants that have not only murdered their kinsmen but habitually raped their ladies. |
There are bundle of miscreants from the old blocks roaming freely on this board. These young morons are worse than their deluded forbearers. |
I had to state unequivocally that any form of bloody revolution in the colonial contraption known as Nigeria would end its existence as a nation. However, such conjectural crap about revolution in Nigeria is a mere lip service. The only feasible revolution in Nigeria is total war of attrition. I am of the view that certain sections of Nigeria would want to fight but only to gain independence or sovereign nation |
@udezue & rhymz This is a mixed bag of facts because it contains diametric opposing principles while trying to juxtapose a dastardly flawed analogy. Within a country that operates democracy as system of government, the district or provincial population is a paramount to sustenance of majority control and dispensation of political patronage. In the instance of disintegration of the cesspit called Nigeria, again baring foreign aid, population will definitely determine which breakaway country will emerge not only militarily but economically superior. I am happy you said Biafra could have won the civil but it did not win. One of the primary factors that contributed to the defeat of Biafra was population. Nigerian side was numerical superior and used it to her advantage. The only way Biafra could have won the war was through element of surprise which it lost at Ore debacle. Even before the unfolding of Ore saga, Gowon and northern political elites knew that northern region of Nigeria was living on bogus census figures which was ridiculously inflected by the colonial masters. They (Gowon and northern political elites) immediately went to work on the seemly fear of Igbo domination by fanning up hatred and enticing the greedy southern Nigerians with appointments. Gowon dangled the chances of presidency of Nigeria, corporate heads, permanent secretary positions and the ministerial appointments left by Ndigbo, governorship of state governments and top military appointments to southern Nigerians. These gestures by Gowon and northern elites were seen as a welcomed and never miss candy by melancholic southern Nigerians. It is very nauseating to read the analogy of smaller European countries subjugating entire Africa politically or otherwise. This issue has nothing to do with population or lack thereof but it hinges on the societal improvement and mindset. For example, if Nigerians were Czechoslovakians, Nigeria would have seen peaceful disintegration before Czechoslovakia does. It is unfortunate that few Nigerians tend to build fallacies or flawed elementary social studies into de facto socio-politico-economic factual facts. What is this arrant nonsense of quality children with good education and multitude of useless children? There are some kinds of succor in any form of education. In my book, rushing through the four walls of institutions such as university does not always equate to being quality children. I have seen successful individuals that never attended any form of school yet gave meaningful employment to so-called quality children with PhDs. Again this last statement begs to ask what is the meaning of education and what is it all about? |
