ferdiii: Better done in the US. Seme border ke. Those NDLEA folks will be frisking you like they've found a drug baron.I can't even stand the journey!
Well some of us who have got a lion heart were able to dare the Seme journey and we saw and we conquered.

dnpasion: Sorry to ask this question, how soon do you think I will have the confirmation page or reciept,if payment is made via WU??
It takes 3 working days for the receipt confirmation to be up for printing on the Sevis fee page. I need to tell you that it is still via WU people who go to seme pay through. The reason is sadly because Nigeria is a big country, as a matter of fact probably times 100 of everything Seme is worth, but we can't make WU payment from Nigeria, we can only receive ( a consuming nation)

@ Biofem, keep at the good work. Its interesting that you a mother of 3 children in the USA still have time to come here to trash some issues. Kudos to you madam.

I need all the inputs I can get on this issue. What is the likelihood of securing a F1 Visa with a Provisional admission? Here is more information why the PA was offered. The PA was offered because the Graduate School requires a 3.0 GPA for a Regular Admission but a 2.9. GPA was presented and that was why the Provisional Admission was offered. This School in question is ranked high in the list of school's offering the programme of study. I need anyone who got F1 Visa with PA or anyone with a useful information to drop a line or two.

The people who need the information directly should be encouraged to join this thread in other for them to get the information they need.

ekundayomi: Hello fellow nairalanders... I paid sevis for the same school on a particular sevis code ... the i20 is expired now and i have a new one from the school do i have to pay another sevis fee again..
Sevis fee has a year expiration date. What this means is that, let's assume you made the payment June 2011, so by this year's June 2012 it has expired. You need to check against the date you made the payment to be sure it is still valid. If it has expired, just arrange to make another sevis fee payment. Best of luck.

You are right, YES you can get admission into graduate school, and I agree with your position in all sincerity.. But what do you make of sharing ideas, experiences etc. like we have been doing here? I have personally learnt from your comments as well as others here.
I have nothing against sharing a replete idea devoid of possible misleading information.

Sure, your narrated experience will motivate others who want to follow your died-hard commitment to the top of their chosen career path. However, I just wanted to nail the point that even with HND anyone who wishes to further directly to US graduate school can get admission. There is no such silly discrimination of Bsc and Hnd in US graduate education as we have in Nigeria.

We are all just trying to help each other here by sharing informations. So, are you located in UK or US?

Hi deevick246,
Please don’t be pissed with my comments, rather, continue to contribute your valuable ideas here so that people like me who unknowingly have misled or will mislead people with our comments can learn. I was also pissed after 5yrs of hard work bagging a Distinction in my HND from one of the highly respected polytechnics in Nigeria only to learn that I need another 1.5yrs pd/pgd to progress with my professional registration with the regulatory body, whereas those with B.sc went in straight. My friend here who is an Engineer can testify to what HND holders go through as regards registration with COREN, NIE, etc.. Even though I landed a job almost immediately after my HND, I knew that wasn’t all.. I wanted to further but couldn’t get admission into masters programs in the Universities I wanted, I wasn’t happy having to contact lots of schools only to get a few lower class ones that said OK, we will offer you with certain conditions. I wanted a University degree which would provide me a solid platform for my future endeavours so I thought rather than the 1.5yrs of pgd so I can get my professional reg etc , a 1.5yr back as an undergrad isn’t a bad idea so I went back. Now, I have a 1st class Bachelors, got a job in the oil & gas sector in the UK, options of full scholarship PHD in Canada and Australia, registration with SURCON, RICS, ICES also on-going. I think it was a good move for me and don’t believe a masters would have done any better. Please I welcome anyone to correct me if I am wrong or misleading people again. I was only giving my advice like I said the other time.
To my friend who said lati aaro, I don’t want to believe we are talking about a race here and I also spotted a sexist comment which makes me think we are still in the dark age.
Please don’t take offence to my comments.
The Bsc / Hnd polemic here is whether one can get admission into a graduate school in US with HND and the answer is a capital YES. This is my position.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY to everyone on this thread. Our Beloved country is 52 years today.

Yes, We might not have advance as many advanced countries, we might not have develop as many developed countries, and we might not even have evidences to prove that we are indeed a federation. But there is one thing that is apparent and that is the fact that God is with us as a nation and people. If not, we would have long ease to exist as nation.

I see a better Nigeria in the nearest future time. God bless this country. Amen.

madeit2thetop: I still dont get your last paragraph please are you trying to say that the ukraine degree is not compatible with the america graduate admission
What is it that you don't understand in the last paragraph? The massage in the paragraph is that, the Ukraine undergraduate degree will be accepted for graduate admission into a US university, so far, the grades meet up with the US university admission requirement. However, I also encourage you to do a research on the acceptability of Ukraine degree certificate with regards to the US university admissions. I encourage you to do this research, because I am clueless about the Ukraine educational system and policy in general.

madeit2thetop: A cousin of mine going for undergradute was denied visa earlier this june and right now his dad wants him to go and get his bsc in ukraine then apply for his masters in the us later on but hes confused on what to do because his dad hates the stress of this visa application and eventually not get it..pls house hope. Going to ukraine to get his bsc won't hinder his application for masters in the nearest future
To abandon the US undergraduate dream for Ukraine because of initial visa denial doesn't show a resilient spirit. The fact he was refused the visa means that he probably was not well prepared for the interview or he wasn't just lucky enough to secure it the first time. There are a lot of people on this thread who weren't successful in their first visa interview attempt but in their subsequent one or two attempt(s) they got the green ticket. Even me myself, I wasn't successful at my first attempt and to now think that I would abandon my America study dream because of that, that one na lie ooo.

If his dad wants him to study his undergraduate in Ukraine for other reasons, he better comply with his dad's decision. But if the reason is solely because of his first attempt refusal, he should better convince the dad that US visa application is sometimes like that. And that he is most likely to be successful in his subsequent attempt(s).

The Ukraine degree is recognise for graduate admission in yankee. Please, do tell the person in question to do research on this or better still you can help he or her do it. This is necessary for a better understanding of the Ukraine educational system.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by deevick246(m):
biofem2000: HND =B.S . Don't ask how. Let WES decide.
When you tell the school you have a Higher National Diploma, they'll probably ask you what that means. I know quite a handful of people in the US with HNDs from Nigeria who are heads of big agencies at the moment and hope to move further up on the ladder. Do not let HND hinder you. If anyone chooses to go back for undergrad after having obtained one from a polytechnic, it should not be because they were not given a chance like their university counterparts. It should be because they chose to make a first impression the second time.....

Good luck!!!!!
Well said!!! Seriously, attimes I get so pissed off here when I read comments/contributions that are not portraying a correct position. I feel this is where the work of the thread moderator is needed the most. To pin-down and correct such misleading insinuations before it is too late.

I like that your mathematical equation of HND=Bsc. They are both the same in the US admission evaluation, as far as it covered a 4 years study duration.

The author wants to further his/her education and he/she is finding it hard to get a masters offer with HND. That suggest to me the HND is hindering him/her already. ALL TOP UNIVERSITIES around the world would only admit students with a good UNIVERSITY FIRST DEGREE into post graduate studies (Masters & Above) and not students with a college/polytechnic diploma except those with some long years of experience, research etc. You'll agree with me he/she needs to dig really deep like someone has already suggested here to get one.
This comment lacks weight as it is a mere guess work. The US educational system only requires a student applying into a graduate programme to have gone through a 4 years higher education to be eligible for admission. There is no such thing / barrier as Bsc or HND in most US university requirement for graduate admission. I know this because I was able to get more than 2 yankee universities regular admission with partial funding with my HND.

The digging deep or doing research on universities one wants to attend, I think both the Bsc and HND holders go through it. Everyone have to find a school that suits his or her preference.

Oh really, so how do I go about my search? Cz I did that for almost 2 weeks and had no good result , I'll b grateful if u can just gv me a list of those schools to make it easier, and for my major still chemistry bt probably forensic, organic , environmental, I have lots options to choose .
I'm waiting pls .
Thanks
Seriously anyone picking schools for anyone is doing bad to the person rather than the opposite. I mean at graduate school level, the individual should be able to bend down and do the search. Even if it warrant burning candle self lol.

When it comes to the choice of a university, a lot of factors comes to bear and a lot of these factors have been mentioned here a lot of times. Lemme just cite some. One, cost of the programme. Two, cost of living in that state. Three, the weather condition of that state ( in case of earthquakes and hurricane) etc. So you see, considering these factors and other issues, if anyone (graduate student particularly) is depending on anyone to make the choice of university for him or her, I need no suit-sayer to tell me that such an individual isn't ready for the graduate school hard work yet.

I would be nice to you by giving you this site where all the universities in the US are listed by state. This is because we both graduated from same school.

www.utexas.edu/world/univ/state/

Best of luck.

Lol! What's thr to hid ? Majored in chemistry, from yabatech, with CGPA of 2.9 of 4, sure its low ..
So can we move ahead from thr now that I've given my details
Oh Yabatech! That's where I also graduated from and if I disclose my identity you might even know me.

Your GPA is good and should get you admission into a good number of schools. if you say you didn't get any school to give you admission, I will put it you that you didn't do a good search. So please, do a thorough search and you will be baffled at your findings.

Just an advice, I will advice you also search for courses related to chemistry and not just chemistry alone. I don't know what major you want to major in for the masters though.

Didn't find any school that does post graduate and for the masters the schools I found cnt accept HND for msc ,
Maybe someone on here can pls gv me a list of schools that accept HND for pgd or msc..I'll really appreciate, not too late cz I can still apply for dt..
What course did you study for the HND programme and in what institution? And I hope you would be bold enough to post your GPA as well?

The reason I asked the questions above, is because as far as I know the United States educational institution give the same recognition to Nigeria Bsc and HND education. So it sound strange to me that your HND was not accepted for admission. However, I am aware that a low GPA can hamper ones chance of securing admission. Pls I would like to know the name of that school.

I await your response, so that we can shoot from there. Best of luck.

Square65: I hear o ...

According to the presidential nominee Mitt Romney, the U.S. economy can be faster restored by a policy of strategic immigration.

Mitt Romney's policy of strategic immigration will focus on providing more U.S. work visas for holders of advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering and math from other nations. It proposes that highly educated immigrants can assist in creating new services and products in the U.S. The platform encourages foreign students graduating from an American university with an advanced degree in math, science, technology or engineering to live in the U.S. and contribute to economic prosperity and job creation.

"As in past generations," the platform notes, "we should encourage the world's innovators and inventors to create our common future and their permanent homes in the U.S."

The platform objects to illegal immigration in the U.S. It warns that the presence of millions of unidentified persons in this country is a risk to the safety and the sovereignty of the U.S.

"We are grateful to the thousands of new immigrants, many of them not yet citizens, who are serving in the Armed Forces. Their patriotism should encourage us all to embrace the newcomers legally among us, assist their journey to full citizenship, and help their communities avoid isolation from the mainstream of society" the platform states.

If you are interested in Visas to the USA, contact Migration Expert for information and advice on which visa is best suited to you. You can also try our visa eligibility assessment to see if you are eligible to apply for a visa to the United States of America.
Wahoo!!! Mitt Romney, what a commendable plan for both the yet to migrate and the already migrated persons through the educational route living in the United States of America. However, l adamantly believe in this parable "the devil you know is better than the Angel you don't know"
Just my own thought, that of others might varies...

king1_00: Just Passing by.

Wishing everyone applying for visa come fall success, especially my man deeverick, you shall testify. For those applying to community college or what have you, sincerely i used to think that the school you apply to can decrease your chances of getting a visa but thats a big lie. I know of more than 5 different people that applied to a community college this year and currently in the US. As a matter of fact i was on a flight with one of them he applied to a community college in Vegas. I sincerely do not know the criteria for a visa, but in my own opinion, community college is not what everyone says it is here. I applied to a private school in Ohio that nobody knows not even the VO and i was given my visa. My 2 cents pls complete your DS 190 form in a very professional and coordinated manner, cus thats all they gat on you. I hate to say this but luck also comes into play. A new Nigerian student joined me in my school early this week and trust me when i say this, if this guy could get a visa, all nairaland should also get one.

May the good Lord guide your steps and lead you the the right VO that will issue your visa My 2 cent.

For those currently in the US pls before yo make any serious crucial decision, call your relative in the US or a nairalander. Knowledge is power. I am adjusting very fine so far because i have a brother and a sister down here.

All is well that ends well, the struggle is not over. US is another set of struggle, trust me because the people here are totally different, or maybe its just state, dont know.
Thanks my friend for wishing me success. I am also happy for you that you are doing well in your studies. I saw the picture where you represented naija in your university heritage festival. Keep the Green-White-Green flag high.

Call USPS to tell them its only documents inside the parcel ke? For what? What do you think of NIPOST? Do you think they are dumb or fools? They have done all the necessary checking before approving the postage in the first place. You see, for the fact it has arrive New York means that its on it onward movement to it destination. So there is no need calling USPS, he should rather call the school instead, who knows, it might have been delivered and it maybe the online tracking system that is not reporting the actual position of the parcel.
