06 11 2016 WHY ARE WE OUR OWN WORST ENEMY? There are a lot of habits that can send us to our early graves. These habits are not new to us. These habits have been part of us from time immemorial. Theoretically it has been proven that these habits are harmful to humans but because of pleasure or ignorance, we still practice them on daily basis During Gov fashola`s regime, he banned smoking of cigarettes in public places, the noise only lasted for some months without no enforcement. I am very sure a lot of us have even forgotten about such law. Bad habits are regrettable. Habits like smoking, excessive intake of alcohol, self medications are examples of these bad habits. SMOKING: This is common among adolescents now because of peer pressure. A lot of adults smoke different kinds of substances ranging from nicotine, Cuban ciga, marijuana etc Smoking is the largest cause of preventable death in the world. The bad part is that they can undermine the health of non-smokers in some environment. Smoking is responsible for several diseases such as cancer, respiratory disease and heart disease as well as premature death. Nicotine is very addictive, a lot of smokers find it difficult withdrawing from it. All tobacco smoke consists of NICOTINE, CARBON MONOXIDE and TAR. Nicotine is not carcinogenic but highly addictive. It reaches the brain within 15 seconds of being inhaled. If cigarettes and other tobacco products had no nicotine, the number of people who smoke everyday would drop drastically, but because we need the taxes from the tobacco companies to run our economy especially during this recession, little could be done to impose stringent laws on them. The carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas; inhaling sufficient amount can lead to coma and death. It decreases muscle and heart function, can cause fatigue, weakness and dizziness (same feeling we experience in traffic because of the emission of carbon monoxide from the exhausts of vehicles). The most dangerous is the TAR. Tar is carcinogenic and has links to different forms of cancers. 70% of tar stays in the lungs. It is responsible for most lung cancers. How it leads to cancer is still unknown. LACK OF EXERCISE: Laziness is the reason why most people do not do this. But another factor can be TIME. Most people in Lagos stay very far from where they work, they wake up early in the morning to prepare for work without giving room for exercise. That’s why the life expectancy here is low. But remember the job will always be there for someone else without you Lack of exercise is the leading cause of obesity among adolescents. They are more likely to have a sedentary lifestyle, choosing television, videogames over physical activities. A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk for heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, osteo arthritis and infertility. A study by the university of St Andrews reports that lack of exercise exacerbates the visible signs of aging, making people`s face look older and fatter. POOR EATING HABIT: This is common in industrialized areas. A lot of us do not take real food, we spend our money mostly to eat junks not because we love to eat them but because of our busy schedules. Some people don’t actually like eating in canteens so they prefer to eat the so called junks and settle for real food till they get home. Good nutrition based on healthy eating is one essential factor that helps us to stay healthy and active. Poor eating habit could be under -or-over eating, not having enough of the healthy foods we need each day or consuming too many types of food and drink. These unhealthy eating habits can affect our nutrient intake as well as fibers and fluid leading to devastating state of health like being obese, tooth decay, depression, eating disorders, high cholesterol, cancers and high blood pressure SEXUAL INDISCIPLINE: This is very common these days due to civilization and exposure to so many foreign things. Decline in religious awareness has also contributed to this. Indecent dressings is a norm in some religious gathering now, some even practice child marriage, marriages without proper check-up between the bride and groom. Also a lot of folks practice unsafe sex which can result in being infected with deadly sexually transmitted infections like HEPATITIS, resistant strains of neissera gonorrhea which is common in the UK now CERVICAL CANCERS in women with multiple sexual partners and HIV/AIDS. SELF –MEDICATION: Self-medication refers to the practice of using prescriptions or over the counter drugs without discussing your symptoms with a medical doctor. This is a major problem here in Nigeria. Most people do not like to visit the hospitals for reasons best known to them. Some actually could be because of cash constraint, some possibly because they don’t have time but some don’t just like the idea until it gets really serious. There are several dangers attributed to self –medication, the most important being inaccurate diagnosis, and then using inappropriate medications that cause side effects, delaying medical advice, inaccurate dosage that leads to accidental overdose. Thanks bro |
i was in church today for my brother"s child dedication,my work does not permit me to go to church on sunday at times so i am now good with not going. As a special sunday i was told to be there. i sat together with my sister and dad. we were following the activities until i suddenly spotted a lady sitting on the front role. i told my sister but she could not recognized her even though the lady was her senior in secondary school. After a while we were called up for the dedication with another family making two different families, lo and behold she was standing next to me. i waited for the prayer session to be over and i tapped her, not minding we were on the altar filled up with people we started to exchange pleasantries but because i had to accompany my old man back to his seat i didnt have enough time to gist with her. The worst of it all was that i left the church before the end because i resume by 1pm. Till now i have been thinking about her. she was my ex girlfriend school mate in secondary school. though the relationship with my ex was not hot because we hardly see and she has been trying to avoid me because her siblings warned her about having a boyfriend at that age. so she told me to wait till after school, as a small boy then now i was waiting until i met this other lady in my lesson. we became so close because i see her everyday and she also help me to pass love notes to my ex in school. but along the line we started having feelings for each other but nobody dares say it first. that was how i lost her after secondary school. for so many years i was still thinking about her this time i have forgotten about my ex. she became the sugar in my tea because she was my best friend, we look so much alike with same eye balls and her friends are always saying we would be a perfect match well, i know she"s married now but since morning i have been thinking about her. wish i could turn back the hands of time. i don't no what to do to get her off my mind |

READ MORE.... http://tbsmedlink.com/blog/2016/10/13/dont-just-pick/ Don’t just pick, ask your pharmacist. It is not true when your pharmacist tells you herbal supplements are without side effects, I was once guilty of this but the truth is that some herbal supplements act more like ethical drugs Herbal supplements have one or more side effects especially in the area of drug interaction with some medications. Herbal supplements like ginger, garlic, licorice root contain active constituents that act like ethical drugs reason why interactions are possible. Here are some of the herbal supplements you should be careful with while taking your MEDS. LICORICE: licorice is a plant, it is used as flavoring in beverages, foods and tobacco, the root is used to make medicine. It is used for various digestive system complaints. It can also used be for osteoarthritis, liver disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome and infections both of bacterial and viral origin. But the truth about this root is that it can raise your blood pressure and cause problems with heart rhythms, reason why people with heart problems should avoid it. It is also known to cause problems for people with kidney disease. GARLIC: This is an herb grown around the world. It is related to onions and it is a popular ingredient in cooking because of its strong smell and delicious taste. It can be used to treat tuberculosis, hypertension, liver disorders, diabetes, bronchitis etc. Recent studies showed that it can lower cholesterol a bit too. It is practically a safe bulb to use but the bitter truth is that it can thin your blood. That can increase your risk of bleeding if you take blood-thinning medications like warfarin and clopidogrel GINSENG: This is my favorite herbal supplement. I love it for the vigor it gives. No doubt this is a very good herbal supplement. It can be used to boost the immune system, can decrease the number and severity of colds in adults, good for diabetic patients and most importantly enhance blood flow through the arteries to support major organs. But note that this supplement can cause issues for people with diabetes because it may lead to a drop in blood sugar. People with high blood pressure and those on blood thinners should avoid or take with caution ALOE: it is used for constipation, skin diseases, worm infestation, and infections and so on. It has found widespread use in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food industries. But for people who take it by mouth it can cause abnormal heart rhythm. It may also lower sugar levels if you have diabetes and on other MEDS. So you take with caution while on this supplement GINGER. I don’t think there is any pharmacy that doesn’t have ginseng in its shelves. This is a very popular supplement. People take it to ease nausea brought on by surgery, chemotherapy or motion sickness, and sometimes used to treat inflammation of the joints. If you don’t know, it can cause problems with blood clotting, heart rhythms, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Avoid ginger if you have gallstones or take blood thinners GINKGO: Ginkgo`s been widely studied for its anti-inflammatory, anti oxidant, platelet- forming and circulation-boosting effects. People take ginkgo to improve their memory. Ginkgo can also thin your blood and cause bleeding specifically risky if you take blood-thinning drugs like warfarin, clopidogrel etc. Next time you visit a pharmacy store, don’t just pick, ASK YOUR PHARMACIST. |
