If you grew up in the 70s, 80s and the early 90s, you surely have a story to tell about your mum having this footwear. Our mothers didn't joke with it as it was a 'must have' for 70s and 80s Nigerian mums. Fondest memories.

What a shame.

They received almost 384 million naira each for 1 year for being redundant.

That is about 9.2 billion naira in total for the one year.

I swear, Nigeria is a joke.

And the redundant and useless senators cut across all the major political parties. LP, APC and PDP.
It's unfortunate that we the people are yet to understand the power that we have. They deserve to be recalled for having nothing to contribute towards the well being of their constituents.

Na bill we go chop??

Nigerians are currently facing unresolved economic woes caused by bad government and bad policies.

Had it being Bukola Saraki was the Senate president for Buhari 8 year of misrule our economy wouldn't have been in this mess .

Why can't the senators turn around and support people oriented policies rather than being a puppet to the executive arm.
If it is true that Saraki has been linked to two failed banks (Société Generale and Heritage), he couldn't have done better. What special growth did Kwara have under his governance?

A real woman strives to excel and to be capable of looking after herself without a dependant attitude. It's okay and godly for a man to look after his wife but this new day entitlement mentality is irritating.

Lagos and Edo are paying 70k already. If the others choose to improve on their IGR instead of waiting for FAAC "oyel" money, do away with wasteful spending, and they embezzle less, there'll be funds to pay something reasonable.

@delpee,

Indeed, Lekki Phase 2 wasn't part of the defunct Maroko... I've just corrected the typographic error that arose due to the sensitive autocorrect feature of my Internet-enabled device. You do have a succinct sense of history as confirmed by our last convo on NL about Mrs. Folorunso Alakija's Supreme Stitches and the other Nigerian elite fashion brands in Lagos from the 1980s.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Enjoy your weekend... Ciao.
Stay blessed.

Politics › Re: Lawmakers Move To Restrict Cattle Herders, Northern Senators Fume by delpee(f): 1:23pm On Jun 06, 2024
malali:
Potential Impact on Beef Prices
Implementing large-scale ranching could significantly increase the cost of beef due to the high expenses associated with establishing and maintaining ranches. These would make Nigerian cows too expensive for purchase as cows from Niger and other neighboring countries practicing open grazing will be cheaper in the open market.

Suggested Practical Solutions
Designated Grazing Areas: Allocate specific areas for grazing to prevent clashes while allowing pastoralists to continue traditional herding methods.
Conflict Resolution Mechanisms: Establish local committees to mediate disputes between farmers and herders, promoting peaceful coexistence.
Cooperative Farming: Encourage farmers and herders to form cooperatives, sharing resources and knowledge to improve productivity and harmony.
Community-Based Animal Health Services: Provide mobile veterinary services to support herders, reducing the need for long migrations and potential conflicts.
These solutions aim to be cost-effective and fair to both cattle herders and farmers, ensuring sustainable practices and reducing conflicts.
Former Governor Ganduje once said there's enough forest space for cows in Kano. He was willing to provide water sources, accommodation, schools, hospitals and veterinary services for the herders. They were not willing to accept that option which shows that they probably have a different mission.

We all know that ranches or free grazing cows within a limited area is more nutritious and yields more beef and more milk.

Ladies should stop basing their relationship interests mainly on money. It's the easiest way to trap anyone who is naive or gullible. Feminism of the 70s to 80s was to create awareness for women empowerment and independence. This new day entitlement mentality and wokeism amazes me.

@OP
Is your wife unemployed in any way? I don't understand how someone who has a job or business will go and sit in the village endlessly because her dad died. A reasonable woman knows what her husband can afford so she should be the one to intercede on your behalf. Are your children of school age? If so, it means they've been out of school. That's enough reason for her to desist from being obstinate and to persuade her people.
She may have a change of mind if you decide to ignore her for a while. Culture will not make you steal to provide what you don't have.
Politics › Re: Local Government Autonomy Is Non-Negotiable – Doguwa by delpee(f): 10:58pm On Jun 02, 2024
FG has tried over time to get the LGs to be functional. The Governors and their puppet LG Chairmen and HOAs consistently make it impossible. Maybe NLC/TUC should focus more on that and carry people along.

It's time to make meaningful impact on the lives of the people. It's not just in terms of salaries which is beneficial to a small percentage of the populace. Where basic amenities are available to people at a reasonable cost within their environment, it reduces their burden. Water, health facilities, schools and good roads especially. Security is also better handled at that level.

It will be regionalism first then peoples who are not okay with where they find themselves in the six regions coming will be sorted out with referendums. Tell the guy crying that the south west achieved greatness without Lagos in the past to the extent that we were financing FG. Tell him, Lagos Stste today is not the the Lagos crown colony of the past he is crying about. Today, we hall evidence to say some of the FG facilities and infrastructure every Nigerian is enjoying now were fradulently acquired from the old Western Region. We will be great again.
I read somewhere that Abuja house in UK was actually the property of the old Western Region.

It's okay. The man's proposal already indicates that every area has a right to choose where they want to belong. No big deal. Some Yoruba Kwarans and Kogites may choose to go with North Central for instance.

I hope that Lagosians remember that the SW some of them vilify so much covered up to Fadeyi on Ikorodu Road. The Industrial and residential estates...Ikeja, Apapa, Ilupeju et al were mainly built with Cocoa funds not money from Lagos Colony which was under the colonialists.

Also, the SW is rich in mineral resources which if well harnessed (but for federal might and visionless leaders) will make a huge impact on the lives of the people. Agriculture made the zone rich before. It can be done again. Lagos colony is free to stand alone.

You're right on Ajimobi. Kudos to Makinde for not abandoning his uncompleted projects. That was a good starting point for him and he's been able to do so much more. @Opamoses1,

Lekki is a different location from Lagos Island, Ikoyi Island or Victoria Island (Iruland). Lekki is a Peninsula and this is why Lekki Peninsula is used to describe that whole landmass.

For those who don't know, the entire Lekki Peninsula got it's name from Lekki Town (which is an indigenous Ijebu town in Lagos State) in Ibeju-Lekki LGA of Lagos State. Lekki Phase 1 is NOT the real Lekki Town. Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Epe LGA and Ikorodu LGA are the 3 Ijebu-owned LGAs in Lagos State sharing borders with the indigenous Ijebus of Ogun State right across the Lagos-Ogun States boundaries.

Therefore, Victoria Island Extension, Lekki Phase 1 and Lekki Phase 2 of today used to be part of the Maroko slum until the Lagos State Administrator Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki ruthlessly demolished the residential slum overnight in 1990 for reclamation and further gentrification. Then plots were resold. As of the time the then Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos came onboard in 1999, Lekki Phases 1 and 2 did NOT even exist as built up areas!

So, a Peninsula is any landmass that is almost surrounded by water, hence Lekki Peninsula, Bakassi Peninsula, etc.

An Island is any landmass that is completely surrounded by water, hence, we have Lagos Island, (Iru Island or Victoria Island, Ikoyi Island, etc.

Hope that helps.

Only Lekki Phase 1, Oniru side was part of Makoko. Admiralty side is a sand filled area.
Lekki Phase 2 is opposite AJah.
