Womens Olympic Football

JUST IN | FIFA has banned Canada head coach Bev Priestman for a year following the Olympics drone spying scandal.

Canada has been deducted 6 points in the ongoing Olympic women's football tournament and fined 200,000 Swiss francs.

The 6 points deduction means Canada, who'd bagged a 2-1 win over New Zealand in their opener, now slide to last in Group A (on - 3 points) ahead of their second match against France on Sunday.

When you see truth say it
nor be everytime you go hype
I just hope the maclean starts and we all see how the Spanish defenders won't be able to withstand her
Hopefully she will get her moment.. Randy have his reasons picking her for the tournament. She didn’t just fly in from nowhere into the 18players list giving the number of forwards we have.

Nor be only maclean
Like we haven't watched the maclean play for super falcons before
No problem you can as well take her position and go play the No.9

On this day last year, Oshoala and Nigeria stunned the co-hosts! 🇳🇬😮

When it comes to scoring goals for Falcons lately
I'd put my money on Kanu's finishing & positioning to Oshoala who is better at reading the game, team work and tracking back
We really need to score if we stand any chance at all in this tourney
Oshoala has played as a winger for Nigeria in the past
Can't be as sharp as Kanu"s end product result
Spanish defenders will bully Esther off the ball and not give her time to advance
We are not as quick as Spain so whenever we get the ball they should try to keep it as much as possible or use it efficiently
Esther that shoots from the centre of the pitch due to pressure
If you need a no.9 upfront that the Defender can’t withstand her Power then you will have to go for Maclean, she can shoot at sight with both feet’s effectively, very quick and dangerous in the Air.!

We need a no.9 that hustle, very good & strong in her pressing, can win aerial balls and Ihezuo isn’t the one.

Coached better start Oshoala & Ajibade as wingers against Spain. Play Kanu as 9
Which Kanu as no.9? That would be another error, I would rather he play Esther Okoronkwo there..

Kanu — Oshoala — Ajibade

Macleans & Okoronkwo as sub for Oshoala & Kanu

Christy Ucheibe — Toni Payne — Deborah Abiodun

Onyi Echegini as Sub

Alozie — Ohale — Demehin — Okeke

Nicole Payne as Sub

Chiamaka Nnadozie in Goal

That Real Madrid Winger that plays on the Right for Spain is very quick too, I don’t know if Okeke can keep up.. Maybe Nicole Payne will have to start considering her pace or Okeke will stay defensive all through and this call for Kanu to start as she can go box-2-box on the flank.

Risa Shimizu 🇯🇵 has unfortunately sustained an injury to her knee during the match against Spain and has therefore been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. We are wishing her a speedy recovery. 🍀

Like what the Commentator said Nigeria can’t depend on Rasheedat Ajibade alone, and it was obvious all our attacking hopes were on her. I saw Echegini strike the ball on three occasions but my instinct tells me she’s someone Randy should bring from the bench for Toni Payne as the tournament progresses.

Look at Tarciane, she was just too dominating in all her duel, aerially she beat all our players hands down as no balls could get past her, only Esther Okoronkwo was able to dribble past her and that has been one of the trending photos on the internet right now. This brings to my mind Maureen Umeughochukwu 22yrs who’s of same height with #3 Tarciane. She better play her way from the French league D2. Her height is too much to waste in a D2 league.

Btw alozie and okeke, I don't know who is worse as fullback. Sometimes I think alozie is overrated maybe because of her beauty
Alozie hasn’t done bad as a Fullback, remember she’s originally a Forward. With what she has shown at the World Cup and in recent years she’s pretty decent. But again Nicole Payne need to step up as an Original Right Back and the Younger ones in the League have to do the same.

Okeke hasn’t been able to maintain her rise as a Fullback/Center Back, maybe the series of knee injuries might have played a part but again she’s a no nonsense Defender on a good day.

Onumonu bro... It was Ify. That was a chance that could have resulted into a goal. Oshoala and Macleans were on the bench but Mr Randy brought in Ify instead. I just dey laugh yesterday.
Is time Onumonu get dropped off the team until she plays her way back in her club base..! As a Center Forward she isn’t Stronger, quicker or even clinical than the Macleans I know..

Esther Okoronkwo is far better than Onumonu with all have seen, Esther can dribble clean, run, defend score and also press.. My only problem is she overdo sometimes especially trying to show those flashes when u’re already marked by two players when a simple pass could have done the job.

Honestly I still think that match exposed his squad selection. U needed a Rinsola Babajide or Gift Monday yesterday. There was joy on the flanks but we had nobody that could take advantage. I still don't understand why Rasheedat stopped going at that leftback.
My mind was like Push Esther Okoronkwo to the left flank and bring in Oshoala or Macleans..

At least as Payne wasn’t doing well, Echegini would have come in, so as to allow Rash continue her job on the Right Wing. If you noticed very well the Brazilian Coach had to double her markers on Ajibade, some times 3 players were on her, this would have freed up more space for the other winger on the left to operate..

Don’t play Echegini and T Payne together at this stage cause the Midfield is very thin right now.. the moment Ajibade was moved to the middle the team flow from the flank dropped..

I don't want it to look as if I'm forcing agenda here but someone should check and analyse the two bolded please.

My question is, who is the coach? who is in charge of calling up 'personnel'? A coach that went to tourney with just 2 central defenders. He sidelined Rinsola and picked unfit Ifeoma even when there were 2 CF in the team already.
To me the idea of dropping Rinsola was definitely to make sure he picks his Favorite Americans, cause if Rinsola was to be there one of his American based forward will have to be on the Reserve or out.

2 fullbacks
2 midfielders
Two subs

I saw 4 of these in 1st half when they were not yet fatigued. More annoying when a fresh sub comes on and is acting like they've been on the field for 70mins

And i dunno if na my eyes but the WWC version of our gk is different from the one i saw yesterday too.
Is time we tell Nnadozie the truth, she need to watch her weight, she look heavy! No one is saying she should go and lift weights and look strong but shred some Fat..

I don't disagree with your commentary on Nicole, but the point is it would have been ill-advised for Randy to start her yesterday. Don't forget she's had a few chances to start with the Falcons and she didn't exactly do very well. I think starting from the bench was the right decision. I however fancy her starting against Spain.
Against Spain, to me she can start considering how quick Mariona and Athenen can be on the flanks..!

Randy major problem right now is getting his 3 players upfront right…! Ajibade can’t do it all.

I don't think this is a fair assessment. Would you have been kind to Randy if he had benched Okeke yesterday and we lost? Starting Nicole from the bench was the wise decision. Okeke had a good showing the previous games and it was only fair for her to start.
On a norm Okeke would be my first pick,

But Have been following Nicole game right from College, at some point her move to PSG and lack of game time did affected her development. The potentials are there but she seems to lack confidence in her abilities, Her pace alone sets her ahead of her mate but need to add that football knowledge to become a better Defender Overall..

I wouldn’t also blame Okeke that much cause she was exposed a lot by Echegini who didn’t do much especially when they weren’t connecting with her, the Left Flank was dead flat, I wondered how it took the Coaching crew that long to do something about it.

Stats don't lie...

SuperFalcons gave their all against Brazil, But I think Randy Waldrum choice of starting Echegini on the left flank failed him.. She was supposed to fight for the AM spot with Toni Payne. When Toni was messing up in Midfield, Echegini was supposed to come in and sort things out..

It was a very cagey affair. I felt Nigeria should have left the field with a draw at least.

Randy should have started Kanu and maybe brought on Okoronkwo to the left flank.

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 11:17am On Jul 26, 2024
It was only Esther Okoronkwo who made some few moves against Tarciena and was able to beat her once or twice on ground but she at the end took too many touches and lost out. Decision making poor.!

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 11:15am On Jul 26, 2024
Tarceina was dominant in the Air yesterday, no balls could get past her, She won all fair & Square.

neztar:
She kept asking where to throw the ball during throw ins
The players weren’t well positioned to receive the ball, Onumonu who was on same flank with her look heavy and also indecisive with the ball..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani:
The next game against Spain 🇪🇸 I will go with a 4-2-3-1 of the following players, when defending it becomes 4-5-1 to close the Midfield and the flank down.

Chiamaka Nnadozie

Nicole Payne — Ohale — Demehin — Alozie

Christy Ucheibe — Deborah Abiodun

Rasheedat Ajibade — Toni Payne — Uchenna Kanu

Asisat Oshoala

••• Okoronkwo or Ihezuo for Kanu
••• Echegini for T Payne
••• Okeke for Nicole or Alozie
••• Macleans or Ihezuo for Oshoala.

Marta and Deborah Abiodun ⚽️ 🇧🇷/🇳🇬♥️🦅

The Marta I know wouldn’t just meet up any kind of player on the field to talk to. She definitely saw something in Debbie’s game!

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 10:35am On Jul 26, 2024
Randy Still not trusting Nicole Payne yet is something I don’t get, like she’s the quickest player in the team all round and arguably one of the quickest fullback in the World.
My only Problem with Nicole is her lack of experience thereby making fruitless decisions after overlapping with the ball if not she’s fantastic. Her quick feet’s can help a lot, as she’s someone you can’t beat easily pace to pace..!
