Nigeria’s defensive structure resembles that of a 4-2-3-1 mid-block, but Waldrum has experimented with both a 5-4-1 and a 4-1-4-1 when defending their lead late in the match.

Alozie’s attacking nature, in particular, leaves her out of position and weaker when defending the counter. Lapses in defensive concentration will be the killer for Nigeria especially from Alozie who isn’t a natural defender but a makeshift, among the 4 Defenders starting in the Backline, Alozie is arguably the easiest to get past in a 1-V-1 situation considering how tough and well built the others are with their No gree for anybody kind of defending..!

In possession, the overlapping runs of Alozie will be impactful in the final third, whilst Plumptre’s inverted positioning would have allowed Nigeria to have much more ball dominance in the middle of the park but her absence will be filled by Chidinma Okeke who’s more of an aggressive defender and can also bring in some pull out from the back in a quick counter.. It will be interesting to observe whether the Young and one of the quickest full back in the World Nicole Payne will get some game time in Paris as a back up for both Fullbacks..

Nigeria’s midfield unit is incredibly versatile but will have a huge task on their hands when attempting to limit the possession of Spain, Japan and Brazil.

Halimatu Ayinde who would have been a key figure in midfield is out with a Knee Injury.. She is a useful anchor on the defensive side of the ball, can protect the defensive line without the ball and offer a critical passing outlet in the initial phases of the Nigerian build-up. Whilst the 4-2-3-1 would allow Payne to float just behind the Center Forward (Ihezuo, Oshoala, Macleans), the ability for the midfield trio to interchange and run off one another could pose a significant threat and confusion to opposition defences.

The Inexperience of Deborah Abiodun is something to look into even though she’s young, athletic and can cover a lot of ground the anticipation & passing attributes of Ayinde will highly be missed as she’s more of the calm one btw the Defensive trio in Midfield. I hope she doesn’t get erratic when pressure sets in. Again Nigeria lack options in their double pivot as there’s no back up option for the Defensive duo of Ucheibe & Abiodun.


Forwards

It is clear that Nigeria’s forwards will want to build on a somewhat underwhelming 12 months despite achieving their long-term goal of Olympic qualification.

Asisat Oshoala is an excellent striker to spearhead the Nigerian attack, with pace and physicality to stretch opposition defences and naturally create space for her teammates, but her inconsistent performance for the SuperFalcons have been put in question making her an Option from the bench or can start in a game depending on what Randy is going with.. We can expect Nigeria to remain consistent in their desire to attack the flanks, and for good reason. In line with their youthful approach, Rasheedat Ajibade can undoubtedly the live wire of the front three as she will serve as their play maker from the flank using her pace, skill and brilliant individual ability… Esther Okoronkwo can inject some life into the Nigerian attack and terrorise tired defences with her ability to take on defenders..

The options at CF is something we can really lay hand on right now between Asisat Oshoala, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Chinonyerem Macleans.

Randy seems to have found favour in Chiwendu Ihezuo in recent games because of her pressing abilities. We remain calm on who will lead the frontline with various options available..!

Lack of natural wingers in the team might be another problem for Nigeria considering the number of central forwards that have in the team and how well built they’re and also their ability to terrorize the box, feed from scratch and aerial abilities.

One thing I noticed most times from Randy’s interviews he only make mention of himself, Karl and the new game analyst brought in for the Olympics.. which is 3 of them.

He hasn’t talked about the Nigerian Assistant Coaches with him more like they don’t contribute anything or what? At least I want to hear him mention them like they do this and that to help the team..

Anyway I mostly see Ann Chiejene and the goalkeeper Coach as the only active Coaches among the Nigerian Coaches in the team, Madugu nothing.!

Brazil: We have studies and analyses on Nnadozie we have passed to our strikers

Edson Alcantara, goalkeeper coach of the Brazilian Women’s National Team, says the team has conducted studies and analyses on the goalkeepers of their group phase foes as the Samba women get set to play Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their opening game of the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Stade de Bordeaux in Bordeaux on Thursday.

Alcantara says they have done extensive studies on Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie and have passed the information to their attackers.

‘We also have studies and analyses on the opposing goalkeepers, such as Nnadozie from Nigeria, Yamashita from Japan and Cata Coll from Spain, who we must face in the first round. In this case, we transmit the information to our outfield players, explaining the pros and cons of each of them’, says Edson Alcantara.

Nnadozie features for Paris FC in the French Division 1 Féminine and made history as the youngest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match, which she achieved in 2019 against South Korea at the age of 18.

Brazil have met Nigeria twice at senior level with the Samba women winning both. The first meeting in 1999 at the quarterfinals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the USA with the Brazilians winning 4-3.

The two teams met again, nine years later, in a Group F game at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with the Brazilians winning 3-1.

If her decision was based on financial rewards, wouldn't joining the Saudi League make better sense? Looks to me she was scared of challenging herself and came to the conclusion that she simply wasn't good enough for Div 1.

BTW, seems you're the only one who refers to her as Naija's Wendie Renard. The Wendie Renard I know would never back away from a good challenge. This lady just did!
She definitely is NOT good enough for the challenges of international football. Good luck to her in her quest to be sub-par!

By the way her tag 🏷️ of Wendie Renard is because of f her similar physique with Renard and their Playing pattern. Isn’t just something i came up with.

She isn’t the only one that left Nantes anyway, some even retired after moving up to D1. By the way She only signed a One year contract in which ended last season. For this new Season the offer on ground isn’t good enough and US Saint Malo offered far more better and she has played there before joining Nantes..

US Saint Malo wanted her more as they’re are on a project of climbing up to D1 this season. Haven retained their D2 spot.
