On who to replace Ayinde, I would still go for Otu or another CB. I don't think Demehin is fit and in critical case, Ucheibe will have to move to CB leaving Deborah as the only DM.

With Otu, we would be able to move Ucheibe to CB without releasing having a porous midfield. And with another CB, Ucheibe stays in midfield.

Adding another attacker will unbalance the team.
Right now what the team needs is a Center Back or a Defensive Midfielder to get balance..

On Regina Otu.

I'll just say you all should take it easy on her. The reason why she has not won a spot on the team is due to the fact that the like of Ucheibe, Ayinde and Abiodun are ahead of her. Calling up 4 DMs doesn't exactly make sense. And let me add the fact that our coach rarely gives a new player the required chance to show what she has got. It took an injury (right?) for him to play Ucheibe. By now, we should have had Maureen Umeh in the squad especially as we are lacking in the defensive position. He would rather have Ashleigh at LB instead of Payne. Macleans and Rinsola are other examples.

So until a player comes in and play reasonable minutes, I don't think we should write her off.
Now you get the point they ain’t getting, there was no way Randy will give chance to another when he already had 3 trusted allies, it was going to be difficult except there’s an unavailability of any of them..

I have followed Regina games up she’s good and capable enough..

This is a massive blow to our campaign…I love dis girl style of play da ku…she is our own Sergio busquet..hardly will u notice her on d pitch, but she Dey do a lot

Abiodun and dt benfica player yansh go open for dis Olympics 🥹🥹🥹
I bet you they weren’t rating Ayinde in the past until this last World Cup performance, I remember how Okobi used to say she will always want to play with Ayinde behind her because she does a lot of work..

Ayinde is calm, her coolness and how she handles pressure in the midfield will be miss, Ucheibe and Abiodun will have a tough task to be sincere especially the aspect of experience even though they’re Young and Energetic..!

Ayinde does the marking job neatly than the other two but again we have to settle with them..

I said that because we know Toni is going to be forced to the wings when she can just focus on her midfield duties. So Rinsola will just be the top natural winger on ground. I'm tired of makeshifts. Unless the coach wants to try Alozie upfront. One of the two can fill in the empty slot in the XI but that still means Toni is wings, which i don't like.

Can Regina do the Ayinde as good as Ucheibe and/or Debbie? I don't believe so. Anyways...
Concerning Regina Otu doing the job, She’s very capable and the best option among all the remaining Defensive Minded Midfielders..

Let me recommend just 1 game for you to check her out…

Nigeria vs South Africa (Aisha Buhari Cup), you can also check all their league matches this season..

From Halimatu Ayinde

It is with a heavy heart that I announce I will not be part of the Super Falcons squad participating in the upcoming France 2024 Olympics due to a knee injury sustained during practice yesterday . While it deeply saddens me to miss this prestigious tournament, I am incredibly grateful for the love and support I have received from my club, FC Rosengård, and my teammates, which ensured that my operation was a success.

To my fellow Super Falcons, I wish you the best of luck as you represent Nigeria on the global stage. Your hard work and passion will undoubtedly shine through, and I have complete faith in your abilities to achieve great success. I will be cheering for you every step of the way and will be back soon, stronger than ever. 💪

Go Super Falcons!

That would be a wrong idea man…

A like for like replacement is better, Ucheibe and Abiodun can’t do the job alone, what if one of them gets a knock or Carded, they need someone as back up

Remember Randy Waldrum always play with a Double Pivot in Midfield, 1 more Defensive, while the other Covers more ground Box-2-Box..

I will go with REGINA OTU she fits in perfectly as that Combative Midfielder..
There’s still room for changes as not all team have named their final Roster, France, Colombia etc haven’t named their Squad..

I listened to One of Randy Podcasts this afternoon where he talked about the Pitts Program, Preparation For the Olympics and getting a Video Assistant Coach to join them for the Olympics..

He also talked about how difficult it’s for them to Keep Deborah Abiodun right now as her agent have been dropping good good offers for her from several top Clubs…, But he said Deborah mind now is getting a Degree that those Clubs have to Wait for her..!

I'm not sure he's allowed to do so. Jumoke Alani should replace her from the alternate list.

But if he brings someone else, then Rofiat Imuran, Akudo Ogbonna or Shukurat Oladipo (FC Robo Queens' defender) are the likely other options based on his most recent selections.
We already have options there, Ucheibe and Abiodun are the remaining Defensive Midfielders in the whole list of 18 and Alternative players with Ayinde out now..

Getting a DM is the best Option.. Not bringing in another Attacker or even a Defender..!

This is just sad. The concerning roster takes another big hit. Why was Halimatu still training with her club though? Haven't their season ended?

We don't have the luxury of options. Outside Regina Otu I don't think there's anybody else.
She still have a League game to play this weekend before reporting to camp for the Olympics..

Among the options available Regina Otu is the best..

Again will Randy go outside his 4 alternatives to pick a DM?
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 2:16pm On Jul 04, 2024
Who replaces her now? Cause among the alternatives we don’t have any Defensive Midfielder in there, I believe the window for changes is still open…!

Randy need to get a Defensive Midfielder not bringing in any of the alternatives, Abiodun and Ucheibe can’t do the job alone, they need supports..

Regina Otu??

I have a view that this is the exact reason why the European Nations League was created. European teams will be able to play against other high ranking European teams and lower ranking African and Asian teams will have less chance to play against those European teams.

I suspect that it has something to do with proposed changes to the men's World Cup.
Even those Turkish Cup, Argarve cup, Cyprus Cup tournaments are now declining because of the complex features of the European side’s.. CAF need to do better with our own fixtures so we can be competitive too..

At least our qualifying games here in Africa can be change to the group stage format of home and away where the top two teams qualifies for the major tournaments.. with this way they can gains points for the World Rankings too!

Obsession with Canada is too much. And na European team we suppose play. Why we dey avoid playing european teams? Austria dey. Poland, Denmark?? Why is it scenting like "going for the cheaper option to prepare for"?
Na Wetin Dey available oo

European team are occupied with Qualifying games so no space to fix in any friendly games.. This their Nations League and Women’s Euro Qualifiers don make fixing friendly games with them hard, Only the South & North American, African and Asian side Dey available..

Due to travel expenses some teams won’t bother again!

At least Randy will be able to test his tactics with the Canadian game, they can still play against U17 boys team there in Spain..

We pack cf for front kon sacrifice fittest winger for a returnee from injury that the other two 9s will bench till we're leaving tournament? Omo!! I suspect the Alani choice was cos Ash wasn't fit on time.
No need for too much Complain, Chiwendu Ihezuo is also a good option from the Left Wing, the good again is that she’s left footed, Strong and fast too!

We’re all assuming from the players available but we still don’t know how Randy will set up yet, He’s full of surprises!

I hope Coach Terry will join the team for the Olympics too.🤷‍♂️

So what stops Randy from playing Ohale, Blessing and Okeke at the back? Then Payne and Alozie as wing backs.

Uchiebe and Ayinde as double pivot then Debbie, Payne and Rash to complete the 5

Asisat and either of Ihezuo/Macleans as forwards.

Alternatively, Asisat starts from the bench and you have Joe in the middle and Rash moves forward.

We don't have the luxury of wingers. Kanu is battling fitness, same as Demehin. This gives Randy the best protection he can get. Playing 4 at the back is too much exposure.
You’re sounding as if he didn’t use 4 Defenders at the World Cup and again don’t forget how strong and dominant our double pivots are…

Brazil and Japan game should be a must win…Against Spain a draw is possible.!

I agree. I think he'll play a 3-5-2. Randy as a coach places premium on defence, and with the roster he has he may just play 5 at the back.

We'll wait to see how this will all work out.
Don’t think Randy will opt for 3CB at the back…

Okeke is already there to play Left back, Nicole Payne will definitely alternate as a fullback, I don’t see her starting ahead of Alozie and Okeke yet..

Randy always plays with Double pivot midfield, and the two are always defensively Strong too..

Again Randy might give us something different from what we saw at the World Cup.

I sincerely do not think Randy fancies Rinsola. He's had a few opportunities to use her and he didn't. So while he largely went with what was familiar like you affirmed in your later post, familiarity isn't the reason Maclean made it.
You forgot so soon that he has been with Macleans before at the last WAFCON and also invited her for one of the friendly game in USA but she didn’t turn up!

Again the Russian League games is one of the easiest to access. I be he has been following up with her game and there’s no way Randy will just include her with having some trust and use of her..

Again Macleans said she and Randy has been in Contact regularly…

Her inclusion is the only thing making me feel less pain about Rinsola Babajide omission. That's a crime against humanity to omit her. But Macleans better hit the ground running. cry cry cry
But wait , Iffy just recovered after months of being out with her Ankle injury, Rinsola have been active from start of the season to the end .. She should have made the team ahead of Onumonu who just came back..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 3:19pm On Jul 03, 2024

The front have poor crossers of the ball. Rinsola was the only quality crosser there. This lefty issue again ehn😑😑😑

Means Toni is mainly here to play RW.

The options depleted and not balanced. But fitness does what it gats do. Let's hope the added firepower gets us back to goalscoring form. That sector has been poor since COVID
I think this is the only aspect Randy got it Wrong, we needed a good crosser among the flank players upfront, Kanu and Ajibade doesn’t give that.

If Rinsola was there it would have been better because he picked Macleans and Ihezuo who are also very good in the Air and can also feed from good crosses like Oshoala.

Kanu again has a nagging Knee injury which Racing Louisville has been managing well. She won’t play 90minutes for sure, Maybe Randy has plan for Esther and Ihezuo to play from the flank.. Esther can also cross very well from the Left flank too but her style of play is very deceptive.
