With babajide we will have more firepower in the attacking third, what does maclean brings to the team ? Nothing
Macleans is a Goalscorer, she brings what a natural no.9 will bring to any team..! We have been lacking that fire power upfront.. Randy who included her knows what he’s doing…!

You said you ranked them based on natural top 9 and put your girl maclean as no1 ....you clearly insinuating she's our best striker right now which is far from truth .....and stop saying MacLean is like oparanozie they are nothing alike oparanozie is an exceptional talent

You're ranking maclean as our no1 striker now ? She'll be lucky to play 5 minutes at the Olympics
You talked about been top9..! Did you even read my quote well?

Sorry to say My Ranking is on Original top9 not makeshift or who’s better or best right now..

How many players will play 9 abeg? Rinsola is more of a winger who can also play 9. Gift Monday too. To me, only the midfield is ok but defenders and attackers are off. So we would miss Ashleigh Plumptre in this Olympics? Kai...
On the list right now, The natural no.9 are ranked
1• Chinonyerem Macleans
2• Chiwendu Ihezuo
3• Asisat Oshoala
4• Esther Okoronkwo

While Esther and Chinwendu can play as Wingers but I don’t think Asisat Oshoala would want to play there again..!

Toni Payne is also a Right Winger!
Onyi Echegini can also play as a Left Winger

I think Randy Waldrum also put Versatility into consideration!!

BREAKING!!!

Former Super Falcons captain, Onome Ebi has said; she wished she could help the team in the Olympics qualifiers and featured in the Olympics for her to end it all in Paris.

A legend at 40+ 👌. Committed to serving her Fatherland.

“The coach made me understand that he wants to focus on younger players for the Olympics and I respect his decision as the coach before the qualifiers.

“I would have loved to end it all with the honour of helping the team qualify and going for the Olympics which was my goal, but that wasn't in my power alone to make it happen and I would never beg to achieve that.” Onome wrote.

Lol , maclean has been smuggled in through the back door , her PR team did a good job using Ordega and Onome as a distraction

Maclean wasn’t smuggled in, she earned her spot…! Watch out.

1. Chinonyerem Macleans
We didn't see it coming at all! tongue
She hasn't been in the Falcons since WAFCON 2022, not even sure she had much game time there.
Can someone explain likely recent developments that made Randy go back to pick her ahead of Gift Monday, Ifeoma Onumonu and Babajide Rinsola?

2. Really Happy to see Oluwatosin Demehin is fit enough to be of use.

3. Can somebody also explain why Randy likely picked Morufa Ademola ahead of Linda Jiwuaku who has been in all his recent squad lists?

4. Only real big omission is Ashleigh Plumptre due to injury
Morufa Ademola Is very talented and has developed a lot, currently the best Goalkeeper in the league! She did well with Rivers Angels this Season and also won the FA cup best Goalkeeper..!

Macleans is well built just like Desire Oparanozie, quick and can use both feet’s effectively, She’s bringing that Barbara Banda/Temwa Chawinga kind of vibe even though they’re a little bit quicker than her… I think she would be playing the No,9 alongside Oshoala and Ihezuo…

With Toni Payn, Esther Okoronkwo and Ihezuo also serving as Alternatives on the Flank..!

Like someone who won’t struggle playing as a Left Back in the defense.
Lol just like England at this years euros
So many right backs, no natural left footer
Trippier playing left back
They could struggle from this point in the tournament
Glad Ihezuo & Macleans made it
100% merit list no sentiments
Hoping they really go far in the tourney
Okay, No natural left back in the List, but Chidinma Okeke have played there in most occasions even though she can play on any position in the defense line, Nicole Payne is the other option too, So she’s going there as a Full Back (Left & Right) even though she’s originally a Right Back..

Solid squad list
Balanced to me
They all deserve to be there
Glad
Coach Randy is going for the kill
Our group is probably tougher than the one we had at the World Cup
The only slight issue
No natural left footer
Is Nicole Payne a lefty 🤔
Lol 😂
Natural left footers? What happened to Chinwendu Ihezuo, Esther Okoronkwo, Monday Gift who are natural left footers..

Then the likes of Uchenna Kanu, Toni Payne that their left foot is almost like that of the natural ones…

Then Echegini, Demehin, Alozie who can can well do well with their left foot?

Paris 2024 Olympics: Waldrum picks Ajibade, Nnadozie, Oshoala, 15 others

. Gift Monday, three others listed as alternate players

. Team departs Abuja on Thursday for training camp in Spain

Head Coach Randy Waldrum has picked captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Osinachi Ohale, forward Asisat Oshoala and 14 other players in his final list of Nigeria’s Super Falcons for this year’s Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in France.

There are also defenders Oluwatosin Demehin and Michelle Alozie, midfielders Deborah Abiodun, Halimatu Ayinde, Christy Ucheibe and Toni Payne, and forwards Esther Okoronkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Uchenna Kanu.

Squad members who are currently on holidays in Nigeria will join home-based players and team officials aboard an Air France flight from Abuja to Sevilla, Spain on Thursday night, with the rest of the playing body and technical team also arriving in Sevilla on Friday for a two-week training camp.

The team is scheduled to depart Sevilla for France on Thursday, 18th July.

Nine-time African champions Nigeria, who are making their first appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament for the first time since 2008 in China, will tackle Brazil, Spain and Japan, in that order, at this year’s tournament.

Their first game, against Brazil, comes up at the Stade Bordeaux on 25th July, before confrontations with Spain (28th July) and Japan (31st July). The matches against Spain and Japan will hold at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, where the Super Eagles famously defeated tournament favourites Spain 3-2 in a memorable game at the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals.

PORTLAND THORNS FC PERMANENTLY ACQUIRE DEFENDER NICOLE PAYNE

Portland Thorns FC and Paris Saint-Germain, have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of defender Nicole Payne for an undisclosed fee. Additionally, Payne has signed a new contract with the Club, keeping the Nigeria Women’s National Team outside back in Portland through the 2025 season.

“We are thrilled to be bringing in Nicole on a permanent basis, she has been a wonderful addition to our team and our Club,” General Manager and President of Soccer Operations Karina LeBlanc said.” Nicole has brought a level of competition to our outside back group which has helped raise the bar for all our defenders. We look forward to seeing how she will continue to impact our club going forward.”

Payne, 23, first joined the Thorns on loan from the French side in February of this year. Since joining the Club Payne has appeared in nine matches for the Thorns, six of them starts. Of the six matches Payne has started, the Thorns have won three of them, earning two clean sheets throughout said matches. ‍

‍The defender joined Paris Saint-Germain in July of 2023, and appeared in two matches for the “Rouge et Bleu.” Payne earned her first start on January 20, of this year, helping the team to an 8-1 victory over FC Girondins de Bordeaux. ‍

‍Before making the jump overseas, Payne played collegiately for University of Southern California where she scored three goals in 16 matches, 15 of which were starts. Before becoming a Trojan, she spent three years at West Virginia University where she recorded four goals and three assists in 53 matches, while making two NCAA Tournament appearances. ‍

Now you're inferring things I never said. I already acknowledged that there were personal attacks and shouldn't be condone. My argument however is that those make up a small portion of the conversation. Most of what she received was criticism and those are valid.

Desire announced her resignation though, she should have taken a cue from that.

I don't necessarily agree with your framing. Onome was criticized after he decision not to resign from the national team immediately after the World cup. Many people (myself inclusive) while we didn't necessarily think she made the world cup list on merit could understand her inclusion as we felt that was the right way to honour her contribution of many years to the team. It was just the best way for her to bow out.

When she however hinted on her continuing with the team many criticized. Criticisms aren't outside the borderline of acceptable speech. Of course I acknowledge a few persons directed hate towards her, it comes with the territory (social media) but the vast majority of people criticised her. When she stopped making the team it largely stopped too. It is why I asked if the article mentioned her cause I felt she's intentionally inserting herself into the conversation, that's before you drew my attention to those trolling her on social media.

So no, Onome wasn't under attack. She was criticized.
Let her continue ooo… She’s Towing the path of rubbishing her legacy.!
