the VP is either being economical with the truth or lacks perspective...

most of the so called 'full' ministers from the South are just figure heads who have little or no say in the actual affairs of the nation. a look at the key agencies/parastatals under those portfolios will reveal that they are dominated by southerners (except in very few cases).

the key areas that is the life blood of Nigeria are firmly populated by pmb's cronies... it is only by doing a sectoral analysis that one can grasp the true picture of pmb's nepotism & lopsided appointments.

for instance, a glimpse of the security sector will reveal that out of the 12 KEY positions, the north holds 10. the south have chf. of defence staff & chf. of naval staff... two positions that are fairly redundant in the big picture.

look again at the major financial/economic/revenue generating appointments... of 14 key positions, the north controls 10 including the cash cows of petroleum, customs & NPA. south has 4 with the major one being FIRS... the others, Min. of finance, CBN are less effective if the others do not remit money.

same goes for virtually all ministries headed by southerners...

for instance,
Anambra, $3.77m, Similarly, Enugu attracted a total investment of $644,890; Kogi, $500,000; Kano, $483,970; Bauchi, $425,000; Rivers, $384,817; and Kaduna, $89,975.

http://punchng.com/13-states-attract-n1-9tn-investments-in-three-months/
The only balls you should keep your eyes on are economic growth, progress, development and direct investments which so far mainly heads to the SS/SW and SE.

Look at the investments in the North, Anambra alone attracted more dollars than Kano many times over and more than the entire North outside of the FTC, same with Enugu ahead of all the Northern states in capital inflow.

Security positions under PMB and or previous governments did not increase their investment numbers in the North, so, where is the sense and wisdom in measuring what's on the ground, your gains and what's really important with who is in charge of security? Who cares? Who is in charge of defense and all that rubbish won't development your states, it won't import foreign investments into your states, it won't create jobs in your states.

Stop fixating on irrelevant issues and start looking inwards and where and how you are really winning regardless who is in charge of this and that?

Jona loaded his admin with folks from the SE and today, he did absolutely nothing for the SE, but today, instead of learning from that sad experience, you people are up in arms again about this and that position when in fact it made no difference when SE folks were in charge under Jona.

Nigerian govt. budgets N1 billion for Akwa Ibom seaport

Mar 3, 2017 - The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, says that Federal Government has made provision of N1 billion in the 2017 budget for the development of Ibaka deep seaport in Akwa Ibom. Mr. Osinbajo said this in Uyo on Thursday while addressing a Townhall meeting of the government and people of the state.

Why Ibaka deep seaport project was stalled

Daily Sun investigation reveals that the only formal visible commitment so far recorded in the last nine years is the perimeter survey plan of the area designated for the project.

Chief Sunday Edubio, said that former President Goodluck Jonathan missed a golden opportunity of constructing and running the port.
According to Edubio, the funds were there then because Akwa Ibom as a state was earning the highest from the 13 per cent derivation revenue in addition to more money coming from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) which would have been deployed into such critical economic infrastructure.

According to Edubio, if government is considering direct private sector involvement in greenfield port construction, the idea has become less attractive as the Cross River State Government is showing more interest in constructing its proposed Bakassi Deep Sea Port.

“No investor will invest his money in the Ibaka Deep Seaport project in Akwa Ibom now that our neighbouring state of Cross River is gearing up to have the Bakassi Deep Seaport. The coastline distance between the two ports will be close and will cause stiff competition in an area where we are not sure to attract commensurate cargo for investors to recoup their investments.

“You will agree with me that Cross River State has demonstrated more commitment in diversifying its economy even before it lost most of its oil wells to Akwa Ibom State. Check out what is ongoing at the Calabar Free Trade Zone and the established structures in Tinapa, you will see practical commitment. Here we sound too boastful doing little.

Edubio cited further examples with the $1.6 billion Badagry Deep Seaport where the Lagos State Government has demonstrated the will to begin construction work before the end of 2016 and blamed his home state for merely talking big.

Akwa Ibom got a huge sum of money from the Federal Government as its allocation for the month of July 2016.
The July collection is the first time in a very long when the state has got such amount. Other months had come with lower figures following restiveness in the oil–producing regions of the country and the falling price of crude oil at the international market.

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo announced this during the 30th-anniversary celebration of Akwa Ibom state.

Describing Akwa Ibom as a state with a tradition of progressive activism, patriotism and development with strategic importance to the Federal government, Osinbajo said that provision has been made in the 2017 budget to support the project through the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) to support Akwa Ibom state in the development of Ibaka Deep Sea Port.

While commending President Goodluck Jonathan for his initiative towards the project, Akpabio cautioned that there could be a revolution if the issue of youth unemployment is not seriously tackled. He added: “One of the greatest problems we would have in this country would be an implosion if we don’t take the right economic steps because of the millions of graduates who are churned out yearly. A time would come when there would be an internal revolution if we don’t take the right steps now. Part of what we should do is what we are doing now.” Responding on behalf of the Federal Government, the Managing Director of NPA, Alhaji Omar Suleiman, who described Chief Akpabio as “Infrastructure Governor” said the Federal Government was glad to partner with Akwa Ibom State government in Ibaka. He noted that the natural advantage of Ibaka and the excellent road network in Akwa Ibom State would provide the needed impetus for the project.

Despite the yearly allocation of several billions of naira for the construction of a proposed greenfield deep seaport at Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State by both the State Government and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) since 2011, the project has remained elusive, with no evidence of a port being built at the proposed site.

The water at Ibaka is said to have a natural draft of 11 metres, without dredging, making it a huge potential for possible deep seaport construction.

Akwa Ibom State has continued to budget for the port, which Governor Godswill Akpabio said would create employment for 100,000 Nigerians.

The NPA had also told LEADERSHIP in Uyo at the PCC meeting that the deep seaport would be completed in 2015.

When LEADERSHIP visited the proposed site of the deep seaport at Ibaka, there was nothing to show that a seaport was being planned at coastal community.

A lonely dilapidated narrow road, better described as a colonial road leads to Ibaka, from Oron. As early as 2011, the Akwa Ibom State Governor told a Nigeria Ports Consultative Council (PCC) meeting in Uyo that his government had concluded plans to dualise the road.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201312160580.html

Akpabio budgets billions for this bridge every year with not even bush clearing or fence erected.

Meaning Akpabio pockets free billions every year and the same scenario is what's going on now, the current governor is basically trying to collect his own share..

You asking them the wrong area. The question would be about porto novo. Why is it porto novo, a yoruba owned city with the same environmental similarity with Lagos not like Lagos?

Whenever Yorubas try to tell that super story about how they developed Lagos alone and how Lagos FCT status played no factor in Lagos makes me laugh. They completely forget they literally have a sibling right next to them with literally the same environmental similarities as Lagos yet it's one of the most backwards capital I've ever been in my life. The question now begs if they developed the area that is now known as lagos prior to the existence of Nigeria so why did they ignore the area now known as porto novo? Abi was there something special about the area now named Lagos that the area now known as port novo didn't have? I sure as hell didn't see. Any environmental difference when i was there. Now if they say no, there's nothing special. Now the question goes, the yorubas in porto novo not yorubas or wetin? Likewise weren't they among them prior to existence nigeria and benin?
So why hasn't the yorubas in porto novo replicated another lagos?
Hell even if we focus in Nigeria only, why is it there's no other sw state/city that is in the form of lagos? Abi the so called "yoruba intention" meant only for lagos abi?

They make me laugh with that delusional super story cause reality alone defuses that story easily.
You ipob's problem is lack of civic education, knowledge of history and basic facts about your own country.

Before independence, the leaders in the SW and Awolowo as the Premier of the Old Western Region created the industrial estates in Lagos state, the intention was to make Lagos state the industrial capital of the SW and Ibadan as the political and cultural capital of the SW hence all the firsts in Nigeria like stadium, first skyscraper, first TV station in Africa and so on was sited in Ibadan instead of Lagos and industrial estates in Lagos state instead of Ibadan.

Other states in the SW were designated as Agriculture states to produce the SW's main cash crops like Cocoa and rubber. It's called prudent distribution of capacities.

Lagos state is rich and industrialized not because of the FG because Lagos state as the FC was confined to Lagos Island and the places like Apapa, Ikeja all the way to Ikorodu were part of the SW.

You have 1 FG international airport in your village and they have one FG international airport in Lagos state

The industries responsible for the economic growth of Lagos state was created by Awolowo under the Western Region from Apapa industrial estate to Mushin, Matori, Ilupeju and Ikeja industrial estates, not by the colonial masters or the FG and this is the very point where Lagos state and the SW emerged s the industrial region of Nigeria.

These industrial estates ar responsible for major chunks of the gods and services Nigerians consume daily and this is what Ogun state is benefiting from as the next major industrial hub in Nigeria.

If the SW under Awolowo was able to industrialize Lagos state as the Premier of the Western Region with the industrial estates, what did ZIK do to industrialize or create economic opportunities for the SE region when he as the premier of the Eastern Region same time?

Your past leaders were vision-less and the ones you have now are even worse, so it beats me why you people are always blaming other people for woes.
Calaba port is not final destination for cargoes, Port Harcourt port on the other hand was about the second largest port in the country, however now the port is now underutilised and is facing huge facility challenges. We agree we have the Onne port managed by Intels, which is acclaimed one of the biggest oil and gas free zones in the world, but the Onne port is strictly focused on oil and gas related cargo and their charges are astronomically high. Even non oil cargo are charged as if they are oil related and this is not good for business in this era of economic diversification.Another challenge is the persistence inaction on the part of the port regulators concerning disparity in rates charges between the Lagos ports and the eastern ports. What we don’t understand is why the cargo passing through Port Harcourt ports will cost more than Lagos? This high rate is taking businesses away from Port Harcourt. Most business cargo is now going through Lagos and they are killing the ports in the east.all the importers from Onitsha, Aba, Port Harcourt and environs now pass their goods through Lagos and this shouldn’t be so.
To start with, facilities like forts goes where the need and money is just like the basic economics Demand And Supply concept and theory, so if the need is really there for any port in your part of the country, Lagos, the FG or any agency under the sun can not kill that need and demand.

Money is the basic factor and rule when it comes to building and actualizing facilities like seaports, not internet outburst, emotions and sentiments
.

From our understanding and the noise and cries you people litter NL and the internet with, your region is the richest in Nigeria, your region own everything in Nigeria from Lagos to Abuja and even according to you, 70% of the goods entering Nigeria heads to your villages in the SE/SS, so why are the folks in the SW/North saddled with the meager 30% of imports the ones building seaports on their own and the North building dry ports while you the main importers can not do anything for yourselves.

I just don't see any economic logic o support the bogus claims you people throw out there with
.

You can not build your own airports and all you do is demand, cry and demand. You can not build seaports without casting blames and sabotage claims against other regions, you can not build even your own bridge without throwing blames and yelling marginalization left and right.

When Akpabio was budgeting and pocketing billions meant for Ibaka every year and even presiding over the largest state budgets in the history of Nigeria, you ipobs were here on NL hailing and praising him all overt the places as the best governor in Nigeria, but now all of a sudden, it's a different story and the SW sabotaging the SE/SS.

The folks in Lagos will not hesitate to build 10 seaports and get private funding to build the seaports if at the end of the day the need is there for 10 seaports.

Access to huge and major markets, safety and security, quick ROI (Return On Investment)
are the main factors investors look at before siting and funding such major facilities, not based on sentiments, emotions and me too me too syndrome.

There is a huge difference between your bogus and fraudulent 70% claim and 40-45%.

You problem is either inability to comprehend or poor Math/Arithmetic knowledge.

ipobs here on NL made the same meaningless claims about their onisha river port, but where are we today?

There are many seaports in that region already and Lagos is still standing so of what relevance is another drawing board and imaginary port?

You people need to get real.

Why do we still believe Free Trade Zone is a good development?...when in fact it is an exploitation of cheap labour , often an environmental danger and robs the country of revenue....the reason why FTZ are never in developed countries. The companies pretty much have "diplomatic immunity' in that they are not bound by local laws in the FTZ...they make their own rules...pay workers what they want to...usually impose fines for every little thing to reduce the little they pay. ..dump whatever toxic waste destroying the environment and when all is done...pack up and move on to the next location. But this...we call development...foreign investment.
@ topic...Deepwater port...excellent...location...great. But how would goods be transported to and from the port? There is no talk of constructing a suitable road network. Sooo short sighted.
As an exporter, your company should also consider the customs privileges of U.S. foreign trade zones (FTZs). These zones are domestic U.S. sites that are considered outside U.S. Customs territory and are available for activities that might otherwise be carried on overseas for customs reasons. For export operations, the zones provide accelerated export status for purposes of excise tax rebates. There is no issue of drawback because duties are not collected when the goods are in the FTZ. For import and reexport activities, no customs duties, federal excise taxes, or state or local ad valorem taxes are charged on foreign goods moved into FTZs unless and until the goods or products made from them are moved into U.S. Customs territory. Thus, FTZs can be profitable for operations involving foreign dutiable materials and components being assembled or produced here for reexport. Also, no quota restrictions ordinarily apply to export activity.

There are FTZ's all over the US.

I do agree per environmental and labor issues, but FTZ provides huge manufacturing, employment and industrialization benefits. We do have laws against such issues, we just have to enforce our laws.

i mentioned it another thread that a major seaport in ibaka( deeper than apapa even without dredging) will finish lagos in a couple of years.
The truth is most importers are igbos. If this port comes to fruition, the south east/ south south will be the main nexus whether you yorubas like it or not.
You dont like to hear the truth but its actually the igbos that are keeping lagos afloat. About 70% of our imports are headed to the SE/SS. Once they build this port, a lot of importers will not bother using apapa or tincan.
A major seaport NEAR igboland will change this country for good. mark my words! If only we were truly "a nation" with love for each other, a major seaport in the SS/SE wil industrialize this country faster than you think.
Do you know how much an aba based shoemaker will save if he's imports are just 1 or 2 hours drive away from his factory. More companies will spring up. innoson will import his parts through ibaka because his factories are in enugu.
The advantages to the SE/SS is enormous.
According to you, 70% of the goods entering Nigeria with almost 200 million people is sent to 2 regions with meager population, the lowest economic activities and purchasing power?

Exactly what are they doing in the SE and SS with massive 70% of Nigerian imports?

Do they have larger markets and purchasing power in the SS and SE than Lagos state?

Do they have more imports and raw material consuming industries than Lagos state and Ogun state

Lastly, consuming 70% of Nigerian imports means not only massive industrial and market consumption, but huge IGR figures in the SS/SE.

So, why are the IGRs in the SE/SS the lowest in Nigeria?

I know you people love to throw around fake and imaginary figures, but try add common sense and logic to your senseless and illogical claims.
