Politics › Re: Ambode Receives Governor Ganduje And Emir Sanusi Ahead Of Lagos Kano Summit by deomelllo: 7:11pm On Feb 28, 2018
I must also say that Governor Ambode deserves special mention for his foresightedness in establishing this collaboration, working with Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi on the famous LAKE Rice and even leasing land from Ogun State to grow rice which I think is another act of collaboration,” Osinbajo said. In his address, State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode said the decision of the State Government to join the Oodua Investment Group triggered what has evolved over the last two years to become a signpost for effective partnerships between Lagos and other States.

Not a fan of Ambode, but this is a great move in the right direction.
Politics › Re: Ambode Receives Governor Ganduje And Emir Sanusi Ahead Of Lagos Kano Summit by deomelllo: 6:54pm On Feb 28, 2018
The idea of an intra and inter-regional trade and cooperation is not new to Lagos State. Over the past years, our State has collaborated with Kebbi and other states from within the western region to drive economic growth and development,” Governor Ambode said. He said the immediate aim of the strategic partnership with Kano is to produce about 80 per cent of Nigeria’s agro-allied inputs such as wheat, groundnut, onions, maize, millet, sorghum, sugar cane and beef, adding that a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed by both States at the end of the Summit to demonstrate commitment to the sustainability of the partnership.

Also speaking, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said his administration entered into the partnership with Lagos with a strong belief that it would create a veritable platform to drive home grown investments in the face of volatile global oil prices.

We need to redefine our investment climate and find alternative sources of financing critical sectors and projects as well as improve public service delivery,” he said. He said the State was looking towards effective partnership in Infrastructure, Agricultural Value Chain, Solid Minerals, ICT, Commence and Industry, medium and Small Scale Enterprises, Tourism, Governance and Institutions. On his part, president of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote commended the partnership between both States, just as he said that Lagos has clearly demonstrated its readiness for serious investments. “Lagos is more than ready for business. Our refinery, petrochemical, fertilizer and gas projects will generate N8trillion per annum for Nigeria when fully on stream.” he said.

I applaud Ambode for this move with Kano state simply because if the trade volume and economic bond between both States.

This coming ahead of the Lagos-Kano standard guage railway means massive trade collaboration and exchange of goods and services across the board. They have the goods and we have the market. Win win collaboration.

The Emir as the head of the Blackstone Group is a plus. Blackstone is sitting on Billions of dollars for investment especially power/energy investments.

Approaching Okpoko market through thick smog on the back of an okada (motorcycle taxi), the natural reaction is to cover your nose to protect yourself from the dust storm – but the effort is futile.

When a lorry zooms past, kicking up yet another red cloud of dirt, a trader turns the head of a sleeping toddler away from the road, a protective act that is as poignant as it is pointless.

This is a typical day in the southern Nigerian port city of Onitsha – which last year gained notoriety when it was ranked the worst city in the world for the staggering levels of PM10 particulate matter in its air.

Onitsha’s mean annual concentration was recorded at 594 micrograms per cubic metre by the World Health Organization – massively exceeding the WHO’s annual guideline limit for PM10s of 20μg/m3.

PM10 refers to coarse dust particles between 10 and 2.5 micrometres in diameter, while PM2.5s are even finer and more dangerous when inhaled, settling deep in a person’s lungs. Sources of both include dust storms, gases emitted by vehicles, all types of combustion, and industrial activities such as cement manufacturing, construction, mining and smelting. Onitsha scores highly on most of the above – as do other rapidly growing Nigerian cities such as Kaduna, Aba and Umuahia, all of which also featured in the WHO’s 20 worst offenders for PM10s.

In Onitsha’s very busy Okpoko market, my air quality monitor registers 140 for PM10s and 70 for PM2.5s – all way over recommended healthy levels, but still nothing compared to the readings triggered in other parts of this densely populated commercial and industrial hub.

The entire vicinity of the market is perpetually dusty, as wood-sellers saw lumber into different shapes and sizes. The air here is made worse by all the fine sand particles that fly off the back of trucks as they visit one of the many dredging companies on the bank of the River Niger, just behind the wood market.

Politics › Re: No Tribe Can Colombi Lagos Or Abuja, They Belong To Everybody by deomelllo: 5:32pm On Feb 27, 2018
LIFEisSIMPLE:
Before Abuja, Lagos was the capital of Nigeria, and it was the headquarter of National administration. This means that a share of the resource from all states of the federation where channeled to this region. Federal taxes on every single Nigerian was brought to Lagos, and all this where used to fasten the rate of advancement in the state. This is the reason why only Lagos state can compare to Abuja in terms of administration.

Same thing apply to Abuja, Look how much of the money from the Niger Delta is used to develop Abuja, same goes to revenue from every other part of Nigeria. For every Nigerian who gets taxed for their profit from sweat and hard work, a chunk of this resource is been channeled back to the capital, which is used for development of the city. So any attempt by any particular individual or group to take credit the development of Lagos or Abuja is an attempt born out of bigotry and hate

If say, Benue state is made capital of Nigeria, and federal presence skyrockets to record high levels i.e CBN headquarters is moved to benue, federal Secretariat moved to benue, Presidential villa, ministry of finance, ministry of defence, works and housing, transport, National administration, Senate, house of Reps e.t.c all moved to Benue. International Airport built in Benue, Certainly the condition and lifestyle of the people there will change for better. As a fraction of the income by all Nigerians, firms, states will be re directed to benue in the name of Federal tax. Benue state will suddenly appear like an investment hub where everyone will want to do business both National and International.

So if we say Lagos and now Abuja is belongs to everybody, it is not an insult, it is just basic fact. The locals of this regions should consider themselves lucky as every other state would jump at the opportunity they have or once had.

I repeat my stance No body can colombi, Lagos or Abuja, this states where developed by the hardwork of every single Nigeria making money no matter how small.
You are fighting a losing battle, move on with your life and put pressure on your village leaders to help develop your towns and villages because the status, ownership and destiny of Lagos is not contestable based on history and current realities.

Lagos remains 100% Yorubaland, governed by Yoruba people and Lagos state laws and policies is no doubt pro- Yoruba and a reflection of Lagos state's status as a Yoruba state.

Just for the sake of argument, if Nigeria ceases to exist today, Lagos is going to be part of whatever SW formulated as a country while Abuja falls into whatever the North formulated as a country.

Today as we speak, Lagos state is a member of the SW Governors forum, a member of DAWN, a member the Odua group of companies and Lagos state as a member of these groups is paying membership dues and sending state funds to these groups to help develop and fund projects all over SW states from Ogun to Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo state.

The history of Lagos state, ownership and status is questionable only per ignorant people with nothing better to do with their God given time.
Politics › Re: Transparency International Hits Nigerian Government With Facts On Corruption by deomelllo: 3:07pm On Feb 27, 2018
I was expecting to see factual reports and documented acts corruption committed by specific individuals, not vague, baseless and imaginary conclusions.

Per corruption in Nigeria as a country, the weak link is the judiciary, this is the arm of government needed to take the last stand. The government can fight, investigate and arrest people for acts of corruption all they want, but getting the judiciary to render convictions and sentencing is a different case entirely.

Corruption is not going anywhere as long as our judicial institutions and our last stand against corruption remains corrupt and part of the corrupt system, they are conniving and enabling participant, they make sure their corrupt benefactors go free based on the absurd, corrupt and ridiculous judgments they render.

There are top judges and members of the judiciary on trial for bribe taking and corruption as we speak, so how do we get justice and deterrence?

The legislature is another corrupt arm of government with many legislatures and lawmakers on trial for corruption including the Senate president, his deputy and lieutenants.

How do we as a country fight corruption when the same corrupt legislatures we tasked to approve and confirm heads of our crime fighting agencies, the same legislatures under investigations and trials by the same crime fighting agencies. It's like asking the bank robbers to select their own favorite prosecutors and judges. We see these absurdities and conflict of interest in Nigeria.

The whole system is broken and the corrupt elements in government and beyond are taking advantage of this broken system so for now, corruption stays.
