Politics › Beyond Politics: Ambode And Fayose Sign Mou On Rice Cultivation. by deomelo(op): 5:43pm On Jun 28, 2018
Lagos State Government and its Ekiti State counterpart have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the cultivation of rice.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola, said that the rice project would be executed on 10,000 hectares of land in Ekiti State and would provide job for no fewer than 9,000 youths in the state.

Olusola, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Thursday while unveiling his campaign agenda tagged SHIELD, which he called “continuity agenda”, said that under the MOU arrangement, Ekiti would provide the land while Lagos would provide the funds and the technical expertise for the rice cultivation.

The PDP flagbearer said that if elected on July 14, he would deliver on his SHIELD agenda, which is a comprehensive blueprint for Security, Health, Industrialisation, Education, Leadership/Governance and Development of Agriculture and Tourism.

He said that his PDP government would attract and encourage investors in the agriculture sector through provision of enabling environment, adding that he would aid the establishment of cottage industries which would have to do with processing of the agricultural products in the state including maize, yam, cassava, plantain and cocoa among others.

Olusola said youths would also be encouraged to farm by the state government through provision and cultivation of lands for them, assistance with farm inputs and buying the output to remove the marketing challenge.

The PDP candidate, who said security was crucial to agricultural growth, economic development and attraction of investors and tourists to the state, said his administration would deploy necessary security with the deployment of ICT to ensure safety of lives and property in all nooks and crannies of the state.

According to the deputy governor who said the Fayose administration had delivered in the area of infrastructural development, said he would add to what the outgoing governor had done by prioritizing construction and rehabilitation of rural roads with sights of ensuring farm produce could be easily transported to the urban areas in addition to focus on intra and inter-township roads.

The deputy governor also spoke on the differences that his administration will make in the areas of human development, health, education and ICT among others.

According to him, “If you go to the Baro River port now, you will not meet anybody there. The facility has abandoned. Reptiles have taken over the terminals. It is a ghost town cut off from this world with no activity taken place there.

“It is a pity that when government was building that port, no provision was made to dualise the road link the port. Currently, the Baro River port is not accessible by road. You cannot get there by land except you are ready to navigate the horrendous roads and bush paths that lead there.

“Even if you decide to go there through the very bad road, God help you if you don’t get attacked by wild animals from the bushes surrounding that route.

“For government to have spent about N2.5 billion building that facility without thinking of how to link it by road sums up the clueless state of our leaders. Nothing is happening there as I speak.

Jona as usual was useless and incompetent, he built the port, but forgot to build access road to reach the port, he did not even buy cargo handling equipment for the port.

Now, of what use is the place if you can not reach the port by road to load and transfer goods and supplies?

This is the kind of insane and incompetent rubbish worthless Jona saddled us with and what we are correcting everyday.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on the latest massacre in Plateau State, Sagay also lambasted Mansur Dan Ali, Minister of Defence for justifying the killings by saying the anti-grazing law is responsible for the clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

He added that just as a football coach is fired after losing major matches, the current Security Chiefs have failed and as such should be removed and replaced with competent hands.

Adenike Ogunlesi is a Nigerian woman who founded the brilliantly-named children's clothing business, Ruff ‘N' Tumble, in Lagos in 1996. It has become a great success story and exports along the West African coast.

Adenike Ogunlesi is the founder and chief executive of Ruff 'N' Tumble an indigenous clothing company in Nigeria that specialises in children's clothing. From a tiny shop with her and her mother as the main staff, Adenike aka Nike turned Ruff 'n' Tumble into an instantly recognizable brand. She has built a reputation for being one of the best manufacturers of children's clothing in Nigeria.

"My kids ran out of pajamas. And I used to make clothing for women. So I decided that I'd just make some pajamas for my kids. "

In her second year as an undergraduate law student at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Adenike opted out of school unsure of what to do with her life. She then reluctantly accepted her mother's invitation to work in her womens tailor shop. That experience helped her to discover who she was and what she wanted to do.She is yet another university graduate that never practiced her profession for one day. Trained as a lawyer at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, her father had wanted her to get into a high profile legal practice. But that was not to be. She refused to live out her fathers script. But her mother who made quite an in road into fashion in Ibadan in the early 60s and 70s, asked her to stay with her. Within one year, she said she discovered herself.

"I started in 1996, I was selling from the back of my car, I was selling at bazaars. Everywhere, there was a bazaar, I was there, my table and my suit case, my children and sometimes even my husband. So it all started then."

Today Ruff 'N' Tumble is a thriving business with 50 employees and distribution along the West African coast.

"We don't export now. Export to the West African coast, yes, all along the West African coast, yes, but to say, America or to England, I'm not interested in it at all. If 40 percent of the 120 million people in Nigeria are children, I have the potential of a huge market here."

Adenike was featured in the Africa Open for Business documentary and was recognized as the Fate Foundation Model Entrepreneur in 2005.
She is a mentor to Junior Achievement of Nigeria and the Fate Foundation.

sad

In Saner climes , a state of emergency should have been declared within that area until the perpetrators are hunted down & brought to book.

The President shouldn't be even smiling plenty, it's not a pleasant occasion.

Finally, the national team should be allowed to use a black arm ban to mark the mourning of the victims.

May God grant Nigeria lasting peace.
Super Eagles emerge victorious tonight &

May God grant the families of the Jos victims the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
This should have been done a long time ago.

While ethnic cleansing is systematically going on in middle belt the Jagaban Thıe.fnubu and his supporters are in SEE NO EVIL HEAR NO EVIL mode.Dont give Buhari a second term.
The greatest evil here is ipobs, your kind and anti-Nigerian elements ranting their usual evil ethic, bigoted and tribal nonsense @ every issue.

You've been playing the same hatred, ethnic and tribal card since the beginning of time and you are still losing and also still at square one and at the bottom of everything in Nigeria.

Is Tinubu also the reason why you are grossly miserable

I can vouch for you anywhere that you are a patriot and not follow follow followers
Well said.

Unlike ipobs and their kind, Patriots don't see religion, politics or blind friendship when it comes to issues affecting Nigerians regardless what part of Nigeria they call home, leaders have to be forthright, swift and decisive to prevent violence and protect innocent Nigerians.
