shadeyinka: Don't you think that there is nothing wrong with the philosophy of reward. We promise our children Toys (Bicycles, Games Consoles etc) if they do well in their exams don't we?
Even if they fail, we don't reject them but we motivate them to performance. I guess its the same reason athletes are given gold, silver and bronze medals. It makes perfect sense.
Blissful afterlife is just an incentive for obedience to Gods will. Nice analogy. The philosophy of reward, as you choose to call it is not wrong. Now, some children perform well in exams and in school without the promise of a reward from anyone; they hope for none. They're intelligent, ambitious and are self motivated. How do you compare them with the children who perform because of rewards? Some people(Secular humanists) do all the good to others without hoping for a reward from some god. If you ask me, they're more good willed. |

shadeyinka: Hi my Friend: This your statement isn't true at all. It misrepresents the gospel.
The basis of the Duty of A Christian after his Salvation is summarized below 1. Scoring High in Loving others as yourself 2. Scoring High in Investing your Gifts and Talents to build up persons within the Body of Christ 3. Scoring High in Preaching the Good news to all.
Especially number one: Loving others.
Check out my post on the Duties Christ expect of a Believer!

By the way, as you rightly mentioned, they are 'duties' imposed on the believers. They've been threatened with doom if they fail to comply therefore, its not genuine. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Will Mad People Be Judged On Judgement Day? by DeSepiero(m): 2:32pm On Oct 27, 2016 |
oaroloye: SHALOM!
This is the question of a person whose own Soul is lost.
. MATTHEW 12:41-45.
41. "The men of Nineveh shall rise in Judgment with this Generation, and shall Condemn It: because they repented at the Preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a Greater than Jonas is here. 42. "The Queen of the South shall rise up in the Judgment with this Generation, and shall Condemn It: for she came from The Uttermost Parts of the Earth to hear The Wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a Greater than Solomon is here. 43. "When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44. "Then he saith,
'I WILL RETURN INTO MY HOUSE FROM WHENCE I CAME OUT;'
and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45. "Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this Wicked Generation."
. JOHN 3:14-21.
14. "And as Moses lifted up the Serpent in the Wilderness, even so must The Son of Man be lifted up: 15. "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have Eternal Life. 16. "For God so loved the World, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not Perish, but have Everlasting Life. 17. "For God sent not His Son into the World to Condemn the World; but that the World through him might be Saved. 18. "He that believeth in him is not Condemned: but he that believeth not is Condemned Already, because he hath not believed in The Name of The Only Begotten Son of God. 19. "And this is The Condemnation,
'THAT LIGHT IS COME INTO THE WORLD, AND MEN LOVED DARKNESS RATHER THAN LIGHT, BECAUSE THEIR DEEDS WERE EVIL.'
20. "For every one that doeth Evil hateth The Light, neither cometh to The Light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21. "But he that doeth Truth cometh to The Light, that his deeds may be manifest, that they are wrought in God."
WHO GAVE HIM PERMISSION TO BECOME "MAD?"
His Mind had no FOUNDATION, Satan Attacked- and it caved-in.
. MATTHEW 7:12-29. 12. "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is The Law and The Prophets. 13. "Enter ye in at The Strait Gate: for wide is the Gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to Destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14. "Because strait is the Gate, and narrow is The Way, which leadeth unto Life, and few there be that find it. 15. "Beware of False Prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16. "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17. "Even so every Good Tree bringeth forth Good Fruit; but a Corrupt Tree bringeth forth Evil Fruit. 18. "A Good Tree cannot bring forth Evil Fruit, neither can a Corrupt Tree bring forth Good Fruit. 19. "Every tree that bringeth not forth Good Fruit is hewn down, and cast into the Fire. 20 Wherefore by their Fruits ye shall know them. 21. "Not every one that saith unto me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter into The Kingdom of Heaven; but He that doeth The Will of my Father Which is in Heaven. 22 Many will say to me in That Day,
'LORD, LORD, HAVE WE NOT PROPHESIED IN THY NAME? AND IN THY NAME HAVE CAST OUT DEVILS? AND IN THY NAME DONE MANY WONDERFUL WORKS?'
23. "And then will I profess unto them,
'I NEVER KNEW YOU: DEPART FROM ME, YE THAT WORK INIQUITY.'
24. "Therefore whosoever heareth These Sayings of mine, and doeth Them, I will liken him unto a Wise Man, which built his house upon a rock: 25. "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 . "And every one that heareth These Sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a Foolish Man, which built his house upon the sand: 27. "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it." 28. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these Sayings, the people were astonished at his Doctrine: 29. For He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. You've not properly answered the question. What's your point Sir? |

Anyway I thought you said it would take discovery of life in another planet for you to disbelieve in God or wasn't it you? Lennycool: I try but he's like an evolved strain of bacteria. But I like what you said earlier. Why would an intelligent creator of the universe share his presence and wisdom with a nomadic desert tribe and help them wage war against other desert tribe. This seems too illogical and I'm surprise most Christians don't think of it. And let's even forget about the times he advocated for rape, slavery and genocide. Why would an intelligent creator advocate for something that today mortal humans know are wrong. The Bible with it's many barbarisms is one of the root causes of disbelief in freethinkers. It's authors made several poor attempts in describing a creator. Though during their time and given their level of knowledge and rational thinking, their attempt seemed good enough. |

felixomor: Sorry no scripture is of Private interpretation.
When Jesus said "give us our daily bread" Do u think it excludes beans and all other types of food?
Study with open mind. You earlier said "from your personal small study" you got to know that "knowledge of good and evil" is tremendous amount and variation of knowledge. That seems like your 'private interpretation'. |
Christianity Etc › Re: God Must Be Joking! by DeSepiero(m): 11:38am On Oct 23, 2016 |
felixomor: I have already explained what "knowledge of good and evil" in that context means. So the Answer becomes obvious. The problem as it stands now is that you've formed your personal interpretations of that simple literal story stemming from your beliefs. Then, these interpretation of yours, which is your opinion may not be true. |
Christianity Etc › Re: God Must Be Joking! by DeSepiero(m): 11:21am On Oct 23, 2016 |
felixomor: By my little study of its original manuscripts compared with other places merisms occured in the bible. I hope you realize that your study could be flawed. That aside, are you saying that Adam and Eve actually had knowledge of good and evil before disobeying God and eating from the tree? |
Christianity Etc › Re: God Must Be Joking! by DeSepiero(m): 10:23am On Oct 23, 2016 |
felixomor: Good to know u believe.
Firstly "the knowledge of good and evil" is one of the numerous figurative expressions used in the bible. It is a "merism". It is also like "East to West" used in other parts of the bible. A merism uses two extremes to literally signify an enormous amount of what is being talked about.
If I say I searched "east to west', i may simply be saying, "i searched many places".
The "knowledge of good and evil" also means tremendous amount and variation of knowledge that humans became born with the potential of having after Adam disobeyed. For example, Today the same computer many people use in saving lives is what some people also use to hack down companies and governments. Knowledge became highly varied. The sight of naked people became something else other than simple creation.
And for Adam and Eve if blamed, are blamed for disobedience after Eve was deceived by the devil. Nothing else.
I hope this answers u. Thanks How did you know that "knowledge of good and evil" as used in the Bible means tremendous amount and variation of knowledge? |
