Christianity EtcRe: Is This The True Consequence Of Not Giving Offering In Church? by DeSepiero(m): 7:43am On Oct 02, 2016
Sermwell:
Before I stopped going to church, I was living with a very stingy religious uncle who gives me #500 or #1000 for offering every sunday! But the truth was that I have never given the money to church! I had always removed the money and submitted empty envelops!
Just this morning, our house was on "fire" just because I said I wasn't going to church again and in the course of the heated argument, I told them how I had never even paid offering even when the money was given to me!
My parents became mad at me and saying that if I don't go and beg for forgiveness and pay all those money, that the cancerworm and caterpillars will "chop" all the money me and my generation will ever make! Personally, I just believe all those things are trash but the way my dad was saying it convincingly and trying to quote the bible makes me want to ask if those curses are true for "chopping god's money"

There are principles of making and keeping wealth.
If you follow them, you'll most probably be wealthy.
By the way, countless people are not Christians, and obviously don't give offerings in churches but are still wealthy.

Christianity EtcRe: The Blessing Of Solitude 2 by DeSepiero(m): 6:57am On Oct 02, 2016
kpakpandoN:
Other blessings of solitary living include divine authority, divine revelation and divine direction. In James 5:17, we read that Elijah was a man who possessed divine authority that controlled the weather. He commanded rain to cease and it was so; when he felt it was time to release the rain, he commanded it to start falling and it was so! The Bible says in 1 Kings 17:1:
"And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word."

This did not come by careless and flamboyant living. This authority came as a result of solitary living and a separated life. We can understand this by what God said to Elijah in 1 Kings 18:1:
"And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth."

It took instruction from God before Elijah could show himself to Ahab. He had been in solitary confinement ever since he made the proclamation of the drought. Some Christian ministers would want to be seen everywhere, at every public function and yet they want authority, they want divine revelation and direction. They dine and wine with the elites in the society and yet they want to exercise divine authority. It does not work like that. Elijah said, "As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand..." Children of God, pastors, where are you standing? Before God or in the crowd?
In the reading of 1 Kings 19:9-18, it is amazing to know that not only spiritual but also physical encouragement came to Elijah during his solitary time with God. Through this divine physical provision, the Bible says that he travelled for forty days and forty nights without eating anything else. One lesson we must quickly grasp here is that God is interested in our physical and spiritual well-being. It is a pity that some Christians spiritualise so many things at the detriment of their physical well-being. Imagine God saying, "Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee." This divine consideration came because Elijah took time to be alone with God. One other lesson we must learn is that still in his solitude, Elijah was visited by God and he was able to lodge his complaint against the society he was living in and consequently he was told what to do. We receive divine instruction when we are alone with God. Our misconceptions about life situations will receive clarification and better understanding when we are alone with God. The Bible says:
"The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant."
Psalm 25:14

Unknown to Elijah that he was not the only prophet standing for God, he wanted to die. However, he was told that God Himself had preserved seven thousand prophets who had not corrupted themselves! What a revelation and a lesson. Never think you are the only one keeping the bound of holiness, there are others unknown to you. So don't give in to the deceit of Satan. God will never change and He will never lower His standards. God bless you as you continue with God in holiness.
Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye.
I enjoy solitude a lot.
Could you discuss the subject outside of the religious context?

As a matter of fact, a very great number of Pastors, priest are actually atheists - i sometimes suspect Pope Francis is too but i dont know.

In the neatherlands alone 1 out of every priest/pastor is an atheist.

so there actually might be great number of such 'Faithless' pastors in Nigeria who are just there because the con pays well.

No wonder Pope Leo X said "I and my predecessors We know what a great profit it has been for us, this fable of Christ.
Hmmm, I tend to agree, especially on the Catholic priests being atheists.
I personally know two of them who hold a Masters degree in philosophy and often 'sound' like 'atheists'.

I assume then you must mean, reasoning without bias. Well elucidate further on what you mean by this. Atheism and agnosticism are synonymous with freethinking. So as a theist, what do you mean by reasoning without bias.
Your assumption isn't far from my opinion.
It takes time before someone would 'drop' the believe in God. It can be better described as a journey. But the journey could either be successful or not based on the level of rational enquiry devoid of religious dogma (reasoning without bias).

When not successful, the Christian goes back to the church to testify the salvation of his soul and his victory over the devil (freethinking I guess).

When successful, he ends up atheistic, agnostic or deistic etc.

But the issue is 'how does the journey start? What prompts it? It also depends on the individual. Maybe 'doubt' and 'Inquisition'
The religious folks would have a term for it.

It could take freethinking and objective reasoning.
Lennycool:
This question has been on my mind for a long time now. What would it take for a theist(one who believes in God) to conclude that God does not Exist? If an atheist was asked the reverse of this question, the atheist might reply with
- let God show himself to everyone in the world
- Heal all cancer patients in the world by just praying
- Regrow the limbs of all amputees by just praying
- Feed all the starving children in the world for a year by just praying. E.t.c all these would be an atheist response, for the atheist to believe a God exist.
Now as a theist (it doesn't matter if you're a christian, Muslim, traditional worshipper e.t.c) what would it take for you to believe that there is no God, or atleast not one that interferes in the lives of humans.
Honest and civilized responses are needed.
It could take freethinking and objective reasoning.

Yes nah. He has disobeyed God's obstructions. But wait oo. John is not guiltless.

How many sins did it take for Adam to die spiritually? ONE.

SO, yes, if John disobeys and dies in his sinful state, Opkari.

Sin kills the spirit in man, and its that part of man that enters heaven, as no flesh can enter. So now John has died spiritually, which part of him will then enter heaven?

This takes us back to an allusion someone made here down the line using HIV. How many times does it a take someone to have unprotected sex with a high risk person before he contacts HIV? Once? But, what if you were warned, but lust wont let you?

Now, lets look at it this way; How many times does John needs to steal to be a thief?

Like i said, John cant just happen to steal without first harbouring the thoughts of stealing in his mind. And the Holy Spirit through his conscience will warn him, its disobedience to the voice of the Holy Spirit that will eventually plunge him into theft. It will be more than one sin instead of just theft.

To steal, Jonh must of necessity have a motive, he must be a greedy fellow, (lack of contentment). He has to be Covetous, then lust after what he wants to use the money for. Three sins.

My dear, Sins throng themselves along.

You think he will be guiltless before God?

sexual immorality is even the worst as it takes a lot and much longer to plan. All along the Holy Spirit is there speaking, Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it... BUT, INSENSITIVITY TO THE SPIRIT.
John can't just sin, it won't just happen , blah blah blah !!! Fine I've heard. When he finally does and dies without repenting like in the scenarios I tried to create (& your corrections) he goes to hell. Right?

Hahahahahahahaha. Very good analogies, but your last two are premeditated. Theres no way John will engage in a sexual act with a married women spontaneously. It starts from them getting close first. exchange phone numbers, calls, chats, flirting, lusting and then planning to meet secretly for the act. From the start, If John is a believer with the Holy Spirit in him, he would have been warned over and over.

Trap, you are walking into a trap. The Holy Spirit will throw in scriptures about adulterous women, the danger of allowing adulterous woman to lure him. John would ve made up his mind to commit that sin, hence, pay deaf ears to the Holy Spirit's convictions. There's no excuse here.

The second scenario is greed, covetousness and the lust of flesh. It also takes planning, its not spontaneous. No an excuse.
You don't necessarily have to dispute the possibility of these stuff happening.

Agreed! The sexual act won't possibly happen spontaneously. It will happen as you described. He makes up his mind to commit the sin.

Second, he may also plan for the 2nd scenario though that's not really the case here.

In the end, if it happens the way you've explained that it would rather happen, which is a little gradual and premeditated, what becomes Johns fate?

Ok, now i get you. Lets create a scenario.

John is a Christian, he is permitted to get angry because he is human, but not permitted to allow his anger get the better part of him. But, he got careless spiritually and the adversary took advantage of that and attacked him, by stirring up an unreasonable person against him. The unreasonable person insults his mother, and hits him on his nose, he gets really upset and hits back, the unreasonable person picks a bottle and smashes his head with it, John collapses and dies.

Do you mean in a case like this? If this is what you mean, God won't send John to hell.

He is a Just God who sees our hearts and weighs our actions by our hearts contents (Motives).
Now you get me.
Story on point. I may agree with your analogy (even though John got spiritually careless and also disobeyed the 'turn your left cheek' teaching).

John may have also 'gotten careless spiritually and the adversary took advantage of that and attacked him', by stirring up a promiscuous person towards him. He involves in sexual sin with this lady, her husband catches them in the act, a fist fight leads to John's death.

John may have also 'gotten careless spiritually and the adversary took advantage of that and attacked him', by tempting him into stealing his boss's money which his boss kept carelessly and John needed money (everyone needs money). In a hurry to leave the office and get home gets knocked down by a truck and he died.

What would be John's fate in these scenarios?
