Katsumoto: Yes unity matters to me a lot to me and it is even for that reason that I am opposed to an Oduduwa country. My preference is a return to regionalism.
Even if it were to be that Odua was formed, what leverage does Akure have to be Capital? Why not Osogbo as capital? Or Abeokuta? It is too early in the day to be counting your eggs when the hen is yet to be f0rked. I don't even have an issue with Akure being the Capital but I am against folks who are ready to spoil it for others if they don't have there way.
Lastly, paternally, I am not from any state in the SW but nevertheless, I have love for all Yoruba. You always break my heart with that statement. Must you always reiterate it? Whether you like it or not, you are Yoruba! More Yoruba to me than kwarans. Stop ruining my wet dreams! |

Midastouch1: My friend, most of what you have written is nonsense! I am from Ondo and I am yet to see any Ondo or Ekiti man/woman ever question or doubt their Yorubaness or their association with the rest of the great Yoruba race.
Your argument about equality, while being a fair point given historical events is misguided in the current scheme of affairs. You say you wanted an intellectual discussion but the title of your thread does not indicate that, neither did the contents of your OP.
South West Politics, generally has metamorphosed from the parochial politics that existed in the early-mid 20th century , our experience in the Nigerian nation has fostered unity in Yorubaland. As an Ondo man, you should know that even within the state, there is mutual suspicion between people from Ondo Town, Ile-Oluji and Idanre - such is the nature of politics but at the end of the day, we sit down together and eat Iyan together.
We have fought our corner collectively and have arguably fared better than most ethnic groups in Nigeria in terms of political unity. I am not trying to imply that we are perfect - far from it, but it is that unity of purpose that has differentiated us from the rest of Nigeria. Individualism is a philosophy unacceptable in Yorubaland.
The handwriting is on the wall, every region in Nigeria will soon start to bear their papa name either by a transparent and efficient fiscal federalism structure or most likely and more appropriate regional political structure. As a Yoruba man, I dont care if the capital is Osogbo, Abeokuta, Ogbomoso or Ifon, we have the political maturity to govern ourselves and formulate/implement policies that will benefit our citizens and law abiding immigrants. A Yoruba region or Nation will foster constructive competition and engender overall development. We dont engage in hocus pocus politics- we will discuss and thrash it out so that no set of people will arrogate political and economic power to themselves.
Lastly, to the usual suspects who come here to rejoice at divisions in Yorubaland, I will advise you to wake up and smell the coffee. Yorubaland is strong and a force that no one can wish away- not even in your dreams. A lot of you have consistently complained that you have been marginalised - can any of you give provide any statistics as to the difference between the Federal Govt allocations that has been given to your states and the rest of Nigeria since the inception of the Nigerian state and let us conduct an empirical distribution analysis. Could it be case that while your leaders have been resolutely misappropriating these funds at the expense of your development- Federal allocations to the SW has been relatively better spent to make the region a magnet for inward migration? Dudu, see your rival o. This guy can construct! Except you increase my chop money, na Ondo I dey go so. |
Politics › Re: National Conference - Akure A Good Candidate As South West Capital by Desola(f): 8:50pm On Oct 22, 2013 |
Dudu_Negro: Its a waste of time feeding your mental and theoretical exercise. Ondo was not the only producer of Cocoa, Palm Oil in Yorubaland. Ondo is not the only Oil and Gas state in Yorubaland.
Ondo cannot and will not be capital of Yorubaland because Yoruba nation is a ruler-state by nature and with a seat of political power and capital. That seat had always been Oyo. In the event of returned power to West Ibadan will once again be our political capital.
If you dont like it actualize your theory and join nation with Delta, .........if you can! See my guy... |

DeLaRue: So, because you live in London, you throw around put downs about reading more about why London was made the capital of the UK.
Wetin man no go read for Nairaland o!
Some of us have been to London too o and attended one of the world's top 5 Universities in the UK, and worked in one of the world's leading consulting firms in the UK for many years. I am sorry I had to mention that, but needless to say that I am not impressed by your put down.
Let us not make this personal.
Let's look at my point again. Are you not fascinated by the prospect of a Southwest region where we spread development to areas that are currently lagging. Somewhere in the thread, someone mentioned agriculture and tourism in respect of Ondo and Ekiti states. I laugh. I live here. Where is this tourism money going to suddenly come from, and will be enough to develop these states?
Do you not agree that making a place like Akure the capital will be a major catalyst for economic renewal and rejuvenation in a way that the much vaunted, illusory, and unrealistic tourist money will never achieve?
Why does Ibadan that is already doing well need to be a capital.
Even Oshogbo will make a more credible capital. So if Ondo should go it alone? What would it trade in And who with? |
