Bros...fantastic!. I admire your resilience and attitude towards job hunt. But let be add a tip, next time you have the opportunity to determine how much you are to be paid. Negotiate better by naming your price, you can add clauses that suggests you are open to further negotiation. i believe you should not be earning less than N2.5m p.a. since you are not a support staff and you are adding value from the front line. From experience, i have always gotten the exact amount i asked for during salary negotiation for a new job. ejitemi1: I have got a job finally!! I want to thank God for d miraculous way in which he did it.
Let me tell you all my story. I studied an engineering course in the University, graduate with a 2.1 and finished my NYSC early last year. I have submitted countless applications online,(because I had a 2.1 I always get test invitations) & did over 20 tests and interviews but always get the "we will get back to you" feedback.
Out of frustration I took a 35K job offer as a Sales rep in a FMCG company, the MD of the company is very abusive and always hire and fire at will. I did this job for over a year till I got fed up because I couldn't take it anymore.
During the 1year period of working in the FMCG company, I kept updating my skills by learning AutoCAD, PDMS and 2 other engineering softwares from my savings because those trainings are very expensive.
I resigned few months back and relocated to Lagos. Then I continued applying for jobs online and then I compiled a list of almost 200 oil and gas companies in Lagos through google and linkedin contacts, wrote their names, addresses , fone numbers and emails. I sent unsolicited applications together with my CV to all the companies and waited for 2 weeks but yet no positive responses.
Then I changed tactics and started sending text messages & calling the landlines of those companies yet I kept getting the same responses of "we are not employing for now", "the oil industry is in crisis", "We'll get back to you if we need you".
Then last week I got fed up and started visiting those companies physically to drop hard copies of my CVs and applications. Then within few days, I started getting test & interview invitations, but all are still inconclusive. Then I got a call last week friday to come to an oil servicing company I submitted CV in VI. I went there I was told they are interested in me because of the engineering softwares I said I know and we did the interview and on the spot the told me the job function as a Trainee Engineer, and I was really happy that I will get good experience with the job, but what shocked me the most was when the issue of salary came, they asked what I would collect I wanted to mention that it is in the region of 70-90K so as not to discourage them because we are all aware of the Issues in the Oil & Gas industry and also because the company was a small one with just an ugly bungalow and am sure their staffs are not up to 20, then I told them am willing to go with their company's structure for entry-level engineers. Then the HR just told me the will start with an amount (over 100K) & that I am to start immediately, and asked if I will take it, I was speechless and just said Yes, because despite the mass sacking in the oil industry & bad economy I still got a good job without any connection or experience in the oil industry. I couldn't hold my joy when I was shown to my work station and work commenced. Pls fellow applicants don't loose hope, keep trusting God and He will do it for us all.

I dont doubt your story.....Growing up in the early 90's, a police man stylishly implanted a cocaine drugs in my Dad's vehicle during a police routine check. Thank God my day was connected to the IG of police then, it would have being a different story. iamdotune: I don't know what to call this, an art of implication or fraud.
My dad and I were coming back from office, we saw a police man that stopped us and pleaded to carry him to his check point, my dad being a kind man allowed him in and then told me to come and seat with him at the back seat so the official can seat in the front with the driver. We never got to any check point before the policeman said he's okay here that he should alight..
We dropped him, then we saw two bullets rolled down from underneath the front seat to my dads leg, we were not conscious, he was like what a pity this man forgot a bullet, we couldn't turn back and give the bullet back so he took it and threw it out from the window. We got to police checkpoint they stopped us, asked for some particulars, though our glass was tinted they asked for that too, the man checking the particulars insisted it was a stop and search we should come down, then I started thanking God that what if we never found the bullet..
They searched and searched and found nothing they made a signal and one guy went a feet ahead to make a call, came back annoyed then my dad knew what was going on, I'm pretty sure he never thought of the bullet then he said haven't you searched enough and then they let us go.. That was wen he said did they want to implicate me or what when i was thinking they forgot a bullet..
It's not a joking stuff o.. Please be security aware |

You are correct...For those that wants to invest in Fixed income or bonds, I work with an investment bank and we have lots of funds locked in already, This implies that you can still get a marginal rate between 8 - 14% depending on the volume. You may contact me if you are interested. 08021022255 or tajayi@cowryasset.com Angelstartups: Hello,
If the information is confirmed, the implications are:
For those that have already invested in fixed deposit and locked in at far higher rates, your interest will not suddenly change- you will still receive your earning at the end of maturity. So there is no cause for alarm for existing "Fixed Deposit Holders" (to capture it in @Bj5all's language).
However, going forward it means new investors in fixed deposit with the banks will earn those reduced interest as you have quoted.
CBN's key objectives include (among others) to manage THE TRINITY (Exchange rate, Inflation rate and Borrowing rate). The bank adopts different strategies and tactics to achieve it's goals and one of them is through monetary policies, trying to stimulate investment in real sector and capital projects.
Commercial Banks already offer as low as 3.0% on savings account and so the options for the public (surplus side) will then be either they Consume their funds or Invest it (since savings as it is now, erodes capital) in financial assets or non-financial assets, that could give higher returns.
At the moment, these assets include Treasury Bills or investing in Real Sector (which has higher risk) or Equities (which is classified as high risk).
Treasury Bills trade at between 9.5%-11% at the moment and is a safe investment option.

We now judge "ministers" based on eloquence.

Politics › Re: CCB Charges Senate President Saraki Over False Declaration Of Assets by deucelaw: 10:19am On Sep 16, 2015 |
ogb5: This is the problem with the way they fight corruption in Nigeria. They only remember a politician is corrupt when he steps on big toes.
Ibori stepped on Obasanjo and Jonathan's toes and he was sent to the coolers, Alams moved with the wrong crowd and was impeached by Obasanjo and his looting was brought to the open.
Atiku stepped on Obasanjo's toes and he was turned into the face of corruption.
Now they are just remembering that Saraki is corruption personified just because he stepped on Tinubu's toes
At what point are we going to fight corruption just for the sake of fighting corruption?
The current strategy of only fighting political opponents and terming it fighting corruption will not lead us anywhere, it simply makes politicians to move camp to dominate party or camp and continue the looting and avoiding stepping on toes. There is always an excuse for fighting corruption...even if its genuine. When Ministries charged with responsibilities are trying to do their job..someone cries "witch-hunting". Where do we start from? by smoking out all corrupt officials and prosecuting them at once?...Hell no!. Even if corrupt officials are genuinely charged. People with your kind of ideology would still deem it "selective". Even if its "selective", it still brings a form of sanity into the system. And it would get to a point where politicians are mindful of their deeds because they dont know when they would be "selected". But i believe, its better to be "selective" than non existent, and "selective' can still become "un-selective". As far as i know, the prosecution of this man is long over due and it dint start with this Administration. |

Most relatively new phone users may not get the drift of the iPhone. If you had started with the first generation iPhone 2g you would understand better. This was because it was deemed revolutional device and way ahead of its time. more recently devices have caught up with the technology and therefore reducing drastically the margin between iPhone and others....but for those who pay to attention to details you would know that an iPhone has clear advantage in performance, product design, and simplicity....
A simple example. Make a call simultaneously on an iPhone and the best android device and end both calls at the same time....your iPhone immediately takes you back to your call log while the other device will take an extra 3 to 5 secs before getting to the log screen (time lag)...meanwhile this feat has been since the iPhone 2 generation...I can do more things better and faster than any other phone. |

This is what I experience in Abuja now since they began installing traffic lights in every junction that does not experience high traffic flow...imagine installing4 traffic lights in a 120m road that has low population and traffic density...what's the use of a red light on a considerably free access road?. |
Politics › Re: Massive Traffic Lights At The 11th Hour by deucelaw: 4:52pm On May 07, 2015 |
I live in Abuja and the rate at which the traffic lights are being installed is very alarming....they work all day and night installing the lights...I believe there is a sketchy deal behind it....I mean why the rush it now and the most annoying part is that they installed in unnecessary places causing more traffic and delays......There is a street in utako that has 4 junctions just about 50 meters apart....the road is not busy but they installed streetlights and all u see is a free road but most cars are stopped by the lights and you spend more time now that there are street lights. |

I have no doubt that there is a God, but some things in the bible are not always clear (so to speak to avoid blasphemy). Anyways my christian life aside, my question today is about tower of babel. What are your take on tower of babel? Do you think God caused language confusion because he was concerned they will reach him in heaven? What could be the motive or is unity bad? Well, If they keep building till eternity they would not get to heaven....they would only manage to get to space, moon, sun or generally the galaxy....Heaven doesnt assume a physical form in an earthly context, Its a realm accessibly by death or spiritual means....... So get it straight, They cannot get to heaven....Then why did He cause the confusion?...They stayed together and built strong team that looked formidable partly because they could communicate...God didnt want them staying together, he needed them to spread and multiply across the face of the earth as he earlier commanded...and when he did confuse their language the scattered across. I hope my little explanation is useful. |

thefakestan: Taking notes , i must admit some valid points were made esp. The "mafian" style approach to the media, but one thing is for sure if he was from the North even with all this he would have gotten enough block votes but unfortunately he's a minority and needed to play ball, upon all what he did for the North, they never saw him as their own and never appreciated him, something he should have reliased and ignored them rather than pampering them and while they were working against him. North or no North, Politics is Politics, Obasanjo in 1999 got block of his votes from the North and it wasnt his territory, even South west did not vote for him. Jonathan still managed to get considerable votes from the North in 2011, why?... PDP was united and formidable even in the North. Two important things Jonathan failed to do. 1) His government could not perform reasonably well and 2) He could not still keep his Party structure intact. Imagine If he had Kano and just 2 other Nothern state under his firm grip... Ofcourse you cant under play the role of Tribal or Regional sentiments as it also reflected in the SS and SE voting patterns for President Jonathan, but even if you cant perform, atleast play your politics well and your numbers would add up. |

pinardave: Yorubas and stupidity... Always want to be slaves to one man. You didn't vote Agbaje because he seek the support of igbos showed highest level of insensitivity. As if he was not a Yoruba.. I pity you guys, keep bowing for Tinubu and let him be determining your faith every year.Tinubu will determine your faith in the next 24 years...guess what, the same set of people in his pipeline will be benefiting while the rest of you will be leaking his anus thinking you voted against the igbos. Agbaje is a pure Yoruba, he may have spread his campaign to get the Igbo votes, but guess what? the Yorubas in their primitive and tribalism voted against him..this is contrary to the education which they claimed to have acquired. Yoruba are slaves to Tinubu and will remain slaves!..stupid sets of people I dont think you should always attach Tinubu to voting patterns of Lagosians...It reflects a deep sense of emotion inform of hatred for one man at the expense of other factors that may affect voting patterns..I would use my case as an example...I have never voted for Tinubu and i disliked him for all the years he used in office. I have no reason to like him personally because he and his government revoked my Uncles property in Ikoyi....In 2007, i voted for only for Jimi Agbaje..But fast forward to 2011, Fashola became the man and won Lagosians votes. Why?...He performed or was perceived to have performed. Despite Tinubu's flaws, He has a working system, that emanated after his tenure, his conquest of some SW states has also resulted in development in these Areas. For me its about performance and not about Just one person being at the helm for donkey years calling the shots...I would rather pitch my tent where i see meaningful growth. It is double jeopardy if Tinubu steals Lagos state's money and also have no brains to deploy. If i had my PVC, my vote would not have been influenced by Religion, God fatherism, ethnic or sentiments, I would have voted based on performance and antecedents. I like Jimi, although it appears he evoked the sentiments of the Ibo tribe that seems to feel marginalized in Lagos and that has caused a form of division among these set of people that have always lived freely together. I would not have voted for him because he his contesting against a working government that has done considerably well (in my view). I would atleast trust Fashola's judgement on the next governor for another 4 years, to properly consolidate on the the gains in Lagos...And if in four years, am not satisfied with Ambo's performance, By then my PVC would be available for deployment. In a nut shell, Its not about Tinubu, its about what works...Even if its for 100 years as long as we have visionaries and strategist that are always ahead of the game to make progress. I wont call it slavery, Its just common sense!!! |
