Yes, if you are legally married to a woman in the country of my residence you own any child/children of such marriage legally, if you are not married to a woman and she gives birth, the woman owns the child legally and you have no right or whatsoever to claim such child.
In other words you can be a parent without owing the child legally here.

That's an interesting culture

Well you are right
Some political decisions have to be made to cater to certain interests
That's the game
But a central bank governor has more room to make autonomous decisions
Than say the minister of finance

Dexter, I think you should really heed the advice here. There is a reason why even first class graduate can be put under third class graduates who have lot of hours of real life experiences. School teaches you controlled or ideal environment scenarios, real world is very erratic and need a lot of skills to navigate. While the modelling of different scenarios that good education provides is very useful, nothing beats real experience. As the number of years on a job begins to increase, it will be assumed you have seen, experienced or heard of different situations and learnt how those situations were dealt with.

You do owe the CBN governor an apology for some of the direct insults on his person, when holding such a position, you usually have to juggle with a lot of things many of which are not textbook scenario and even more outside your control. Moreover he is a senior colleague to you.

However, there is some positives to your attitude, you probably are someone who wants to be better or the best, that means your mindset is a good one that should be channeled properly. Do not forget that first class law graduates still have to go to law school, even then they do not become SAN or start handling serious cases in the court room immediately, e get y.

Your advise and nice words are well taken....
And appreciated cool
BUT
I'll say a couple of things
1) There is a reason why the "big four" calls one with over three years of experience "Experienced Hire"

If this equities market was a formal job (just giving an example)
I'll be termed an "experienced hand"
Because I have been in it for more than the three year limit that they use to term one experienced hire
This does not mean I know everything
It means i know enough to function

Second, concerning the CBN governor and monetary policies
There are certain things cast in stone in our line of business, and the behavioral aspect of the people you aee setting those policies for is what bridges the gap between the controlled situations ans simulations (like you rightly pointed out ) and the field

That said, knowing the behavioral blunt of Nigerians (we love arbitrage very well and will do WHATEVER to benefit from it )
Why create an atmosphere that is perfect for arbitrage
Once again
That policy is VERY STUPID
To be fair to him, it's not just his fault
But his decisions ARE A PART of the fault
I like the analogy you gave about law students and graduates
Once anyone is out of law school, he is WELL QUALIFIED to give legal advise
Now its okay to be sceptic about the fact that that lawyer has say just 4 years of experience, probably less...
But that does not take away the validity of the legal advise
Will the lawyer learn more as he gets cracking?
Of course !
Are there certain grey areas that the lawyer may need to brush up on overtime?
Yes
Are there certain cases that people will trust SANs with?
Absolutely!
But, when it comes to the core
He is competent
It's the same for our Economics/Finance field
I hope you get me
I dont know EVERYTHING
BUT I KNOW STUPID MONETARY POLICIES when I see one
For example, that special purpose vehicle thing you highlighted, I dont really know Special Purpose Vehicles in depth as such, I only know the basics, hence I cant give much advise on it.......
Forex; Bitcoin, Digital Agric, etc, dont know so much as that...
But if its monetary policy, fundamental analysis or equities in general, I'll have something to say

God bless

My brother, sorry to say. I don’t agree. It is not as easy as that. Investing in equities is very high risk. You can get dividends today, tomorrow you may not. You can invest in stocks today and in a couple of years, the money invested will be halved. All it takes is for external shocks to hit the domestic or global markets and you will regret ever going there with your 500 million. And this generally applies to developed markets. Talk less of our inefficient market that can easily be manipulated.

Anyone that celebrates dividends hitting his or her account is not really thinking about what can happen to the share price in a short period of time. Some of us are after capital preservation o. It’s like a man that celebrates interest on corporate bonds hitting his account when he is not sure that he will even get half of his principal at the end of the corporate bond’s tenor.

No investor should ever put all his money in the Nigerian stock market.
The Nigerian stock market is a very high risk investment play. Anyone that says otherwise is setting people up for premium tears.

Investing in equities is very high risk. = That's true
But there are avenues to mitigate these risks, and as long as you got into a liquid stock, you can always quickly fly out if you made a mistake

. You can invest in stocks today and in a couple of years, the money invested will be halved. = This is also true
However, if the FUNDAMENTALS of a company did not change, and the share price of a company halved (case in point = Zenith bank falling to sub N11 earlier this year)
It's just market sentiment, and you can do one of two things

Go to sleep, or accumulate more
What would be more worrisome is when the share price of a fundamentally faulty company is just rising and rising anyhow (this one is Japaul stock in trade sometimes lol)

No investor should ever put all his money in the Nigerian stock market. = Some diversification is good
So you are right on this one too

Talk less of our inefficient market that can easily be manipulated
You see, one great thing about our "inefficient market" is that a share price cannot lose more than 10% of its day value
The erosion is slow and steady if the falling is even steady sef

But you see NYSE?
That's olace is the wild west

Let's take these one by one

No you don’t need to be 20 or 30 years but an entry level guy does not give financial advice. You know absolutely nothing at that level. You don’t go to meetings and you don’t speak to clients. If you are brought in to take notes, you are warned to keep your damn mouth shut

What really is your grouse
That the points I raise is invalid?
Or I am an "audio investor"
Or what?
Learning about investing has nothing to do with going to meetings.
Knowing the diffeence between earned and unearned income have nothing to do with meeting clients
Building a portfolio has nothing to do with what you do for a living

Having an early start at this really puts you ahead
Opening a brokerage account is very simple
Funding it periodically is all you need to do to keep it going
Knowing how to dissect financial statements properly is the icing on the cake.

Please don’t deceive yourself. You are not in cruise control after two years. You will only be in cruise control after at least 10 years in the industry as then you would have had the chance to learn from more experienced people. You would have also failed and learnt from those failures

This is not exactly accurate
In my own personal experience, I learnt most of my lessons in the first two years plus of my journey (that's for the equities aspect though, for T Bill's and Mutual funds, there was really nothing to learn lol) after which I got better in the subsequent years
If you are keen to know some of the lessons I learnt, they are as follows :
1) Stay away from JIJO
2) Stay away from illiquid stocks (this one hurt me the most)
3)Buy and hold strategy is THE BEST strategy
4) Only buy market leaders (and maybe some companies with potential
5)Fundamental Analysis is EVERYTHING

Knowing these three simplifies the investment journey for you
And you are right about one thing, one continues to learn more and more
And make no mistake, I still have more to learn
No one is know it all...
That's why periodically I stroll in here, to peep at what some of us here have to say, to learn more

Boy, give yourself a slap for comparing yourself to the CBN governor and speaking condescendingly about people who are more experienced in life and in their professions than you will ever be

Like I said before, i am very well qualified to criticise every silly policy the CBN governor does
Being more experienced than me does not mean that everything he is doing is correct.
And that does not mean I cant criticise his policies
Because I very well can. I'm a monetary policy junkie grin
Letting the gulf between official and black market rate widen remains a stupid thing to do.
No explaining out of it

By the way, how are you always here during working hours if you truly have found a job? Rookies are dumped with busy work and sent on errands all the time.

I will pretend as if I did not see this part
grin grin

No need to shalaye with your shalayeing epistles again o. They will still come back to bite you tomorrow.

Okay
I have heard you
Thanks for the advise
I appreciate it tongue

Despite all said and done
I have no hard feelings towards all you said
And your advise to others is correct

DapperGuy:

How has Nigeria persecuted Christians? Are you this dumb?

Let's start with the government sponsored Jihadist attacks against rural Christian communities across the country - from Delta to Southern Kaduna.

The government retires or sacks Christians in positions in power and replace them with Muslims. In a country where Christians and Muslims have almost equal numbers, the government is disproportionately Muslim.

El-rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, deceived his former Christian deputy to run for senate and then picked a Muslim as his deputy. Kaduna is not like Sokoto or Zamfara where Christians are an inconsequential minority. The Christians in Kaduna are being denied representation at the highest level of government in their own state. Christians are murdered in their sleep and El-rufai has never visited them.

What you see happening in Aso Rock is what happens in most northern states where indigenous Christians are a minority. If your name isn't Muhammad, Abdul, Jamal, etc you are not getting a job. There is institutionalized oppression against the Christian minorities.

No government official has ever criticized Fulani herdsmen for the unprovoked murders they commit. They always call it herders vs farmers clash to make it look like both parties are guilty of violence. You are asking how Nigeria has persecuted Christians.

Just recently, Hisbah went about destroying crates of beer and hurting people's businesses. These people are Christians. But the north would want to partake in the sharing of VAT gotten from the sale of alcoholic drink. Christians are persecuted in Nigeria and you'll be bias or dumb not to see this.

Well said

These people are still living in the past. The mighty influence and hegemoney that you had in the past is rapidly diminishing and will soon become nonexistent. USA has one of the highest cases of homicides in the world, the highest number of covid-19 deaths in the world, the greatest number of mass shootings in the world and worst of all, they are seen as the greatest threat to world peace (I didn't make this up. A research was conducted on this).

And yet they are making different kinds of silly lists. If its not travel safety list, it's human rights violators' list. If it's not anti-religious list, it's state sponsors of terrorism list. Clownscheesycheesycheesy
