BusinessAfdb Reaffirms Support For African Youth Entrepreneurship by Dhilariousdandy(op): 8:48pm On May 29, 2016

Akinwumi Adesina
With almost 200 million people between the ages of 15 and 24, the African continent boasts the youngest population in the world. By 2045, that figure is expected to double.

The African Development Bank is working on providing youth with the skills, education and jobs they need to secure their future.

Available data shows that although between 10 and 12 million young Africans enter the work force each year, only three million formal jobs are created annually.

Besides, the youth often lack the skills required by employers, despite gains in education access over the past several decades.

"We need a sense of urgency in tackling the issue of unemployment, said Akinwumi Adesina, President, African Development Bank, during a Fireside Chat on Youth in Africa co-hosted by Ashish J. Thakkar, a young African entrepreneur, the founder of Mara Group and Mara Foundation, on Thursday, May 26, at the 2016 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank.

Adesina underscored the need to invest in skills development to facilitate job creation. He pointed out that the Bank has taken bold steps to turn Africa's phenomenal youth bulge into an economic dividend by developing a strategy that would create 25 million jobs for youth on the continent as well as equip an additional 50 million in the next decade.

The programs initially focus on the Bank's high-priority sectors of agriculture, industry, and ICT, will include an index to measure youth employment outcomes and enabling policies at the country level, and provide information on the evolution of labour market performance over time.

It can also be used as a tool to incentivize policy-makers to pursue agendas favourable to youth employment.

"The skill sets and jobs of the future are digital. The world is changing fast," Adesina said, calling for skills development in information technology and agriculture.

“Africa's billionaires won't be in oil and gas, but rather in agriculture,” Adesina said, calling for more investments in agriculture.

Africa's millionaires as well as billionaires, he argued, are doing the right thing by investing in African entrepreneurs, Adesina said, as the continent still needs to create a critical mass of African entrepreneurs to drive investment and create jobs.

He further pointed out that African countries need to urgently create opportunities for young people to minimize risks associated with unemployment.

“Fragility in African states is directly linked to unemployment; inclusive growth is urgent,” Adesina said.

There is growing concern that unemployed young people become easy targets for terrorist groups or human traffickers promising them imaginary El Dorados, only for them to perish in the Mediterranean.

For his part, Ashish J. Thakkar, who started with a small computer trading operation, but grew the business over the years into a pan-African conglomerate, called for a mindset shift, and specifically the need to shift the narrative from bringing the Silicon Valley to Africa to taking Africa to the Silicon Valley.

The entrepreneur, who has assets valued over US $100 million in real estate and tourism to financial services, information and communications technology, renewable energy and manufacturing, emphasized the need to improve the business environment to facilitate young entrepreneurs.

He specifically urged banks to increase lending to small and medium businesses.

SportsChelsea Might Sue Manchester United Over Jose Mourinho by Dhilariousdandy(op): 1:34pm On May 26, 2016
https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Mourinho-award-257x300.jpg

Jose Mourinho's contract negotiations to become the next manager of Manchester United appear to hinge on the rights to the use of his image on merchandise, British media reported on Thursday.

The rights are owned by his former club Chelsea and, while they are not expected to stop his hiring, they have drawn out the talks with Manchester United this week, the reports cited club sources as saying.

Mourinho was the manager at Chelsea before his sacking in December and the shop at the Blues' Stamford Bridge ground still sells mugs, posters and phone cases bearing his image.

The Guardian newspaper reported that the west London club bought the image rights in 2005 during his first stint as manager, and wants to sell them at a high price.

Chelsea registered the brand "Jose Mourinho" for five types of merchandise until 2025 and for the others until 2023 under European Union intellectual property laws, the report said.

Chelsea have not commented on the information but the rights issue was no impediment to Mourinho going on to work at Inter Milan and Real Madrid before coming back to Stamford Bridge.

Sports lawyer Carol Couse told the BBC it was "really unusual" for an individual not to own the trademark to their own name.

"If United had a brand of Mourinho clothing, it would be in breach of the trademark Chelsea currently own," said Couse, of law firm Mills and Reeve.

"If Chelsea didn't grant a licence, every time United used Jose Mourinho's name in a commercial capacity against those products, Chelsea could sue Manchester United," she said.

"I would suspect United would rather just pay a licence fee."

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger said he was excited by Mourinho's expected arrival at Old Trafford.

"We don't know who will be our new manager yet, but it looks like it's going to be an interesting derby in Manchester next season," the Germany captain said, with Pep Guardiola arriving as manager of United's rivals Manchester City.

"The enthusiasm for football in Manchester is great and, if Mourinho does take over at United, I think all of the players want to train under him so it's going to be quite a special season."

When Mourinho was in charge of Real Madrid and Guardiola running their sworn enemies Barcelona, the Portuguese never missed an opportunity to take a swipe at the Spaniard.

City finished last season in fourth place ahead of fifth-placed United on goal difference, keeping the Red Devils from qualifying for the lucrative Champions League.

The failure to join Europe's elite next season cost Louis van Gaal his job as United manager, despite winning the FA Cup in his last game in charge.
Nairaland GeneralPolice Arrest Neighbour Over Rape Of Disabled Girl by Dhilariousdandy(op): 1:11pm On May 26, 2016
Indian police have arrested the neighbour of a mentally disabled girl who allegedly raped her and left her for dead in New Delhi, officials said Thursday, the latest incident of sexual violence to spark public outrage.

Locals found the 13-year-old orphan unconscious and with multiple injuries, lying near a secluded railway track on May 18, after she went missing from her relatives’ home the day before.

She is now recovering in hospital after undergoing life-saving surgery, following the attack in a southern district of the Indian capital. “We have arrested the girl’s neighbour for rape and on attempted murder charges.

The girl is mentally disabled,” Rajesh Kumar, an investigator in the case told AFP.

The perpetrator raped the girl before attacking her with a sharp object, causing grievous injuries all over her body, he said. “She had injuries and cuts on her torso, neck, private parts and limbs. He had left her to die by the railway tracks,” Kumar said.

A spokesman for Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where the victim was treated, said she was stable and under observation. “She will need more time to recover completely,” Rajeev Maikhuri said.

Opposition parties seized on the attack to criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national government, which controls the Delhi city police force.

“Such incidents remind us that the Delhi government should have control over law and order,” the city’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was quoted by television network NDTV as saying, after visiting the victim in hospital.

The fatal gang-rape of a student on a bus in New Delhi in 2012 unleashed a wave of public outrage and street protests against violence towards women in India.

That incident prompted the government to toughen penalties for rapists and overhaul policing to better protect women and children.

The transport minister said Wednesday panic buttons would be fitted on all India’s public buses to curb sex attacks on women.

Last month a student was brutally raped and murdered in southern Kerala state, triggering days of protests across the country.

More than 36,000 rapes were reported in India in 2014, although activists say the true number is likely much higher.

RomanceThe Single Skill That Could Save Your Relationship by Dhilariousdandy(op): 4:23am On May 26, 2016
The Ability To See The Big Picture

Emotions are complex.

Every day, our experiences affect them. Sunshine or rain clouds, our favorite song on the radio or an angry email at work—all of these can affect our mood, change the way we feel and influence the way we think.

The problems come when we allow those feelings to dictate how we deal with others.

Why? Because emotions can cause us to react differently in a certain moment than we would normally. If we’re feeling especially happy, we might agree to do something we wouldn’t otherwise. If we’re feeling very down or upset, we might unintentionally take those feelings out on someone.

Emotional intelligence, also known as EI or EQ (for emotional intelligence quotient), describes a person’s ability to recognize emotions, to understand their powerful effect, and to use that information to guide thinking and behavior. When we speak about getting our emotions “under control,” we are usually thinking about controlling our response to emotions. This isn’t easy—but it can be done with practice.

So how can emotional intelligence help your relationships in everyday life?

One incredibly useful skill is that of seeing the big picture.

In essence, seeing the big picture involves stepping back in an emotionally charged moment, and thinking about the consequences of our actions—both short and long-term.

Here’s how it works: If you receive an email that bothers you, step away before you reply. If a friend or family member does something frustrating, pause before you react.

Then, ask yourself questions like:

• How will my response affect my relationship with this person?

• Will I regret saying or doing this tomorrow? How about next week? Or next year?

This doesn’t have to take much time. In fact, once you gain practice, it becomes more of a habit.

Here’s an example:

The other day, I was trying to fix our new, adjustable showerhead. It was only a few weeks old, but somehow I had managed to destroy one of the moving parts. As I continued my (fruitless) efforts, I began to feel a very strong emotion—frustration.

But here’s the rub: My wife is the one who picked out the new showerhead. So instead of groaning or grumbling, I simply let out a sigh and uttered: “Oh well. I don’t think I’m going to be able to fix this thing.” To my surprise, my wife got upset.

Here is where taking a moment to step back and see the big picture really pays big dividends. I thought to myself: “If I leave now, chances are, my wife’s frustration is going to grow.” So I changed course. I went to my wife, gave her a hug, and apologized. I could “feel” her entire mood change in the seconds that followed. As we took off for work a few minutes later, we said goodbye with a kiss and a smile.

Your relationships are like bridges between you and everyone else. Every day, you’re faced with moments that are charged with emotion. When you take a moment to see the big picture and adjust accordingly, you add another brick to strengthen and reinforce the bridge—instead of allowing those moments to slowly wear the bridge down, until it falls apart.

Of course, no one exhibits perfect control over their emotions or reactions. But don’t be discouraged by mistakes. Consider it a lifelong learning experience: The more you practice, the better you get.

It may not help fix the showerhead, but it can still help save the day.

RomanceHow Men Feel About Women Stepping Out Without Underwear by Dhilariousdandy(op): 3:43am On May 26, 2016

It's usually a "man's world" but just how much can a man take from women in that same world?

Men love to see women naked and it's been a known fact that most men - young or old - love talking about female body parts and sex with each other but do they support women who go out in public wearing no under wears?

In a survey we carried out on our social media platforms earlier this week, most men didn’t really care to know WHY or HOW women - especially female celebrities - land on the red carpet in dramatically cut-out dresses without any pants or bras.

However, there's a mixed feeling about if they love or hate the idea. Most of the men agreed that single ladies could go out naked to catch a guy's eye or just because there's no man cautioning them about their looks before leaving the house.

To others, it's completely disrespectful for married women to step out without underwears all in the name of fashion. To another set, no woman is even allowed to go naked in public, period!

Another group of men felt going out without underwear is completely the woman's choice. If she feels comfortable in her cut-out dress, then it's totally fine. "I don't have a problem with that at all," wrote Brian from U.K.

"If she has a great body, right things in the right places, then to me, that's sexy. I don't love women who expose their p***y in public because the dress isn't right for their body." Kayode, from Lagos added, "If she looks beautiful, with or without underwear, I'm good."

Nyle DiMarco, the deaf supermodel who previously rose to prominence winning America’s Next Top Model, has been crowned the victor of Dancing With The Stars, alongside his dancing partner Peta Murgatroyd

DiMarco, who was a fan favorite throughout the show’s 22nd season, took the title at the end of Tuesday night’s season finale, writes the Hollywood Reporter.

“This is such an amazing feeling,” Murgatroyd, his partner, said. “I owe everything to [DiMarco].”

DiMarco has made a name for himself as an advocate for the deaf community.

“I’m ready to take the world by storm and have them look at me and say, ‘deaf people can dance,’” he told People via an interpreter earlier this year.

Please note that we do believe God will judge the world, and the judgment courts are seated in heaven now. And when this "investigative" judgment has finished, then the wicked will be cast into the "lake of fire" as described in Revelation chapters 19-21. But it is our firm belief that the Bible clearly teaches the wicked will be burned up in the lake of fire and will cease to exist.

The real truth is that, the mystery of this world is really very profound, and only an immersed minded person can understand it
