Politics / Re: Fayose Is An Ingrate - Bode George by dicapino: 10:48am On May 03, 2016
Blackberrybabes:
A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has described Governor Ayodele Fayose as an ingrate for saying that he would not support him (George) to become the national chairman of the party.

George also slammed Fayose for saying that PDP elders must take the backstage in the party’s affairs.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Fayose had blamed the loss of the 2015 general election on the elders of the party.

Fayose also dismissed the report that he was supporting the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Modu Sheriff, so that he (Sheriff) could pick him as his running mate when Sheriff finally declares his intention to run for the presidency.

The Ekiti governor had said, “Chief Bode George told me personally that he wanted to be the national chairman of the party, I told him no, that I won’t support him. With all due respect to the elderly people in this party, they must take the backstage. People are tired of seeing the same old faces again.”

But speaking in an interview with our correspondent on Monday, George said Fayose was opposing the interest of the South-West in the party, adding that his comments showed that he was an immature politician.

While stressing that the party needed experienced and matured leaders to pilot its affairs, George said age was not a barrier to good leadership but an asset.

He said the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, was older than him.

George said if the chairmanship position was eventually zoned to the South-West, he would consult with family and friends on whether or not to contest, adding that politics was not a do-or-die affair.

“The kind of chairman the PDP needs is someone that has integrity, one that is trusted and established,” he said.

George added, “Fayose spoke very immaturely during the interview. For him to have said that the founding fathers of the party should take the backstage in the party’s affairs was very disgusting and self-deceitful. I actually told him at an old meeting of the party that if the chairmanship of the PDP was zoned to the South-West, that I would show interest. He told me he had heard.

“Fayose is an ingrate because when the world was against him during his first term in office, God used me to give him support. I contributed N250,000 to purchase his campaign clothes. We must defend the interest of Yoruba because we have been sidelined in the party’s leadership for too long. Fayose and Senator Buruji Kashamu cannot continue to decide for the Yoruba people in the PDP.”

George also said Fayose lied that South-West PDP leaders did not show interest in contesting the national chairmanship position.

He added that Fayose’s claim that he reached out to Senator Bode Olajumoke to contest the chairmanship position was not true.

He said, “Fayose claims to be a Christian. Let him go and read the book of Micah, chapter 7, from verse 1-10 to learn more about leadership. Many people showed interest from the South-West, even Prof. Tunde Adeniran showed interest. Bode (Olajumoke) knows that Fayose is playing around. Bode and I discussed because we are friends.”

Hope he actually didn't say that.....from Bode George.....Lolz

Good books really but lemme burst your bubble a little bit. Even though 5lb Manhattan is excellent for Quantitative and Barron may be great for Verbal, if you keep reading these books without continuous and consistent practice your score will not improve much. What those high scoring individual did not tell you is the number of practice hours per week spent on the GRE. There is no almighty formular for this GRE, but what is important is that you PRACTICE! PRACTICE!! PRACTICE!!!. Keep practicing "timed GRE" question atleast thrice a week. You need to train your brain to remain focused for three hours under exam condition.

Yeah. You got a point. Practice test are very important.

Please, i need to know if i haven't made a mistake, i was offered admission and i accepted it, even though funding package was not mentioned but i know the school has funding. In the first admission offer i got, it was stated in their mail that funding is not available at the moment.
Please Danjaninja, Sirriddy, Decapino, etc am i still on track or i should have discussed funding with d graduate coordinator b4 accepting d offer?

You haven't made a mistake by accepting the admission bro. Have you tried to discuss with the grad-coordinator when such opportunities would be availble. Typically opportunities for funding are available during Fall. Just try to mail the grad guy wella there may be applicants who may not accept their funding offers.

Also what type of funding are you looking at is it a general scholarship that would just defray tuition or any expenses/ or an Assistanship.

Finally, have you tried to contact Professors who are carrying out research in areas you are interested in, they may be willing to fund.

So my advice contact the grad coor. ask when such opportunities may be available. Also try and contact your profs (SirRiddy has a format for such emails).

Hope you applied to other schools? Yu may also need to pay for 1st semester at least if you don't get funded now.

Start sending mails out.

Fortissimo:
So my people, my visa was approved today which is exactly 120 days before the start date on my I-20. My interview itself was very short with just 3 questions, so I will try describe my general experience today to add more benefit for those that may want to have an idea of how things might work.

Got to the consulate about 45mins before my scheduled time and was immediately accosted by some "gentleman" that tried to convince me that my printouts had to be coloured, stapled in some certain way, some new requirement/ regulation, etc. He tried leading me to his shop near the carpark to do the needful and obviously part with some money. From the knowledge gained on NL I knew to steer clear away from him and other shysters.

So I joined the queue but I guess I was a bit early as they were calling people for an earlier time slot. Met a lady and her brother who had come to renew their H1b visas and I made small talk with the lady. Tried making small talk with some other female F1 applicant but she wasn't having much of it. Perhaps nerves?

They finally called us to go through but some people were held back because they brought in prohibited items. This obviously delayed them. I think there is a rule that you have to join the queue from the back if you have to step away to drop prohibited items.

So finally entered the highly venerated US Consulate! Joined a queue that I thought led directly to the VOs. I started hearing the infamous speakers announcing denials...So the queue coordinator told me to go to a window and I thought wow finally! I walked up to the window full of nerves...the lady there wanted to take my biometrics and asked me to place my left hand fingers...I kept placing my right hand fingers until she repeatedly chided me. Mehn I thought wow this interview is going downhill. She asked for my documents and I struggled to pass them through the little slit until she told me just to slide them in. She did some checking and handed me back my passport with my I20 inside. I though I had been denied! I stared at her dumbfounded and refused to collect the documents until she said I was to go give them to the actual VO! I was surprised sef cos she had a Nigerian accent and I expected a VO with an American accent.

So I joined the real queue to speak to the VO...she was very respectful and courteous. Greeting people even before they reached her cubicle. Even those that she denied, she denied respectfully.

So now the transcript:

VO: Please pass your documents...just your passport. Are you a student? Ok please pass your I-20 as well. Ok...so tell me about your travel plans.

Me: I am going to Mississippi State University (MSU) for my Masters in Chemistry. I will be working with Dr. Bleep in the synthesis of natural products and I expect to use the skills I learn in MSU, when I come back to work for a pharmaceutical research institute in Nigeria.

VO: Typing...So where are you working / are you working currently?

Me: I used to work in Bleep but resigned 6 months ago to give myself sufficient time to prepare my applications and prepare for studies at the graduate level.

VO: Typing...so how are you financing your studies?

Me: I was awarded full financial aid by the school. I also have some additional personal funds.

VO: Typing...Ok I will approve your visa...(couldn't hear much past this point. she gave me the white slip and said I would need my I-20 and Sevis receipt when I enter the US).

At numerous points in the interview (especially during the pauses) I started having doubts that maybe I might be denied. I had to keep pushing those thoughts away.

Glory be to God alone!

NL is a treasure trove of info. We even have threads here that VOs themselves respond to queries. I also encourage applicants to look through the US Embassy (Nigeria)'s youtube videos, facebook page and also educationusa's facebook page. Knowledge is power.

Boss congrats.

Which text is the best for Data interpretation questions and Reading Comprehension...

I'm good on other aspects but these parts really consume time. I read the crunchprep RC page, it has helped a little.

People who have excelled in this test, please how did you tackle those sections

RCs...well I think Manhattan killed that topic (at least for me). ON Data interpretation. .....it depends on your background....I think manhattan too...but also use Ets. Guide and other prep ( a variety would make u sound)

Who he epp? after 10M lol.. So the simple fact that was stated actually led to all this back and forth? The truth there is; travel first and decide rather than conclude. If you think having a masters degree is automatic employment, then you are getting it wrongly. I can personally invited 4 friends who came back after lavishing River State (RSSDA) scholarship to UK and Malaysia. They came back after studies thinking foreign masters degree equals automatic employment. I accommodated one while working in Rivers state and I knew how hard it was for him to get a job. The truth of the matter is, it is not easy to leave from square 3 in Nigeria come to US starting from square 1 and after studies get some OPT employment with benefits and would decide to go back to Nigeria and start from square 1. Personally, I would return to Nigeria, if only there is job that would pay me commensurate or more than I earn here.

Totally in support. And there is a paucity of good paying jobs in Naija.

You guys are making me scared of going to the US. But on the other hand, you guys have to look at it from the perspective of an individual whose got nothing going for him/her here in Nigeria.

I don't want to seem maudlin, but I graduated in 2012 good result, finished service 2014. I got this job- an Indian job where I get a meager pay which I can't use to start anything. Okay now with the plummetting Nigerian economy I lost my job early this month.

I applied for jobs...good jobs...chevron and Co ....even smaller coys...no luck.....dragnet; workforce and the likes.

I know nothing is free dere. I was told no free lunch in Yankee yu pay for everything. But someone can't sit down here looking at the ceiling. Nothing is here presently. I am hoping education would open my way to a better life in the US.

I just got to know about this thread. I just received an offer of admission from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, please what documents do I need to get my I-20 and how do u get a financial support tho I was told to send a mail if I'm in need of financial support as 2/3rd of their graduate students get financial assistance. please the gurus here should put me through.

Am no guru....but b4 they come. What yu basically need to get your I20 is a Statement of Account which you will send to school showing you have the amount required for your first year.

Try to peruse the school's website there would definitely be directions on how to go about this.

Send a mail quickly, but funding get grade sha is just school scholarship or a GA position?
