https://www.today.ng/news/national/169835/buhari-inaugurate-multi-billion-naira-calabar-monorail

The multi-billion Naira Calabar Light rail project, the first in Nigeria, would soon be inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The 12-car monorail system, when fully operational, would use an Intamin P8 electric powered passenger shuttle train to convey passengers from Tinapa Resort, across Lake Tinapa to Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC).

The light rail project has three stations, Tinapa, Tinapa Lakeside Hotel and the Calabar International Conference Centre.

The monorail would also allow access to Studio Tinapa, Tinapa Shopping Centre and Tinapa waterpark as well as provide a quick alternative access to Summit Hills.

Built by Ponet TFZE, the train with a cruising speed of about 40 kilometres per hour, has 12 cars, including 10 passenger and two equipment cars.

Each car is primed for seven to eight passengers all seated, while the train’s length, width and height are approximately 38, 1.95 and 2.2 metres, respectively.

When fully operational, the electric-powered air-conditioned train with 1.62 metres height approximately in its passenger compartment, would provide a 24-hour service.

Gov. Ben Ayade had recently told journalists in Calabar that Buhari would inaugurate the train to mark his first year in office.
Ayade announced this during a second test ride of the train to ensure that the project was ready for inauguration.

The governor said the launching of the monorail would be a step toward boosting the economy and expand employment opportunities in the state..

He said the state government was determined to extend the facility to Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, as panacea to envisaged congestion of the city centre through rapid investments inflow.

The parking space at the train’s take-off point at Tinapa can conveniently accommodate 150 cars.

Mr Mba Mba, the station’s Electrical Engineer, said the light rail project was completed in December last year.

“Right now, the Calabar Monorail is ready for use pending inauguration by appropriate authorities.

“We have test-run the system and confirmed its readiness. Gov. Ben Ayade was here with his team to see for himself what is on ground.

“Tourists troop here on daily basis to take a ride. But they were disappointed as they were turned back.

“ We always give the excuse that although services are ready, they can only have their way when it is officially inaugurated.

“School children on excursions, families and other curious residents, who have not seen this kind of train before, have been coming to feed their eyes and seeking to take a ride.’’

Mr Christian Ita, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ayade, also confirmed that the project was completed.

“It is awaiting inauguration; we are waiting for a date from the presidency for its inauguration,’’ he said.

http://saharareporters.com/2016/08/18/efcc-arrests-fake-lamorde-youth-corper-and-five-others-internet-scam

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a suspected impersonator posing as the former Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.

The suspect, Promise Tochi Nwalozie was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in a sting operation that yielded the arrest of six other internet fraudsters. One of the fraudsters, Onukagba Uche Prosper, is a youth corps member serving in the Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Nwalozie was using the identity of Lamorde to send scam mails to foreigners, mostly Europeans and Americans and in the process extorted sizeable amount of foreign currencies from them. His weapon of fraudulent interaction with his victims was a fake electronic copy of the identity card of the former EFCC's boss. Besides, he was also posing as Barrister Peter Jackson, a spurious lawyer working with the National Judicial Council, NJC in Nigeria. As a lawyer, he was defrauding his victims by assuring them that he would help in the recovery of money lost to different Nigerian cyber fraudsters. To do this, Jackson was collecting various sums of money as service charges from his victims. Some of his victims are: Betty. G. E, an American and Georgina M, an Australian.

In addition to all these, Nwalozie had multifarious electronic scam documents in various folders in his e-mail box, ostensibly for the payment of a spurious N12,500,000.00( Twelve Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira only) to one Robert Giese, an American, by the "Office of the Presidency, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abuja". To further deceive Giese, he swore to a fictitious " Affidavit Of Claim of Federal High Court of Nigeria" deposed to by a fake Justice Ibrahim Auta, OFR, on behalf of Giese. The "Affidavit" was signed by a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke. To achieve his fraudulent schemes, he had several e-mail addresses such as:sirpeterjackson@gmail.com,promisenwalozie@gmail.com, bigenoughforcare@gmail.com among others.

Aside Prosper, (youth corps member), five other internet scammers were arrested in the sting operation and they are: Onuoha Akachukwu Danhessy; Ohaji Ujunwa Raymond, a.k.a Francis Ray Emar; Henry Onyebuchi Ogbonna; Eboh Emeka Emmanuel and Nwaorgu Chidi Precious. Prosper was involved in online dating scam, also known as romance scam. Through the scam, he defrauded unsuspecting foreign widows, mostly from Europe and America. His scam identity was Mark Fest, a United States soldier serving in Bulgaria. To perfect his fraudulent schemes, he secured a " business relationship" with one of the arrested fraudsters, Onuoha Akachukwu Danhessy, his cousin.

Danhessy was serving as an intermediary between him and one H. Macaulay, a Nigerian undergraduate at the Medical University, Varna, Bulgaria who was assisting him to collect and send proceeds of their criminality to Nigeria, through Western Union and Money Gram money . All the three victims of Prosper are Philippinos: Ivy P. S, ( $2,000); Mel R.( 800 Pound Sterling) and Lolita T. Danhessy has other ingenious schemes to his credit. In his romance scam, he had reportedly raked in a total sum of $50,000( Fifty Thousand United States Dollar) from Maria J. Al, an American that he promised to marry.

Ohaji Ujunwa Raymond a.k.a Francis Ray Emar is another suspected impersonator who was sending scam e-mails to his victims in Europe and America in the name of Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance. One of his victims, Georgina M, an Australian, lost $1,500( One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars) to him. Other suspected scammers are Henry Onyebuchi Ogbonna, a member of a syndicate serving as a cashier to his group members, Eboh Emeka Emmanuel, another romance scammer that duped a Dubai- based Philippino: E. F. Aquino of N500,000( Five Hundred Thousand Naira only) and Nwaorgu Chidi Precious, another accessory to romance scam and cashier to Nwalozie.

All the suspects are in EFCC custody and would be charged to court soon.

Sibe007:
Long Post Alert!!!

You want change in Nigeria, How much have you changed yourself??

Buhari ofcourse is one Man and expecting just Him to bring about a Change in 170 million people is quite a bit too much to ask.

Imagine an accident scene, people are dying some are still alive and awaiting help, the current driver (Unhurt) is blaming the former driver (Unhurt too) for not checking the tyres and fixing the brakes. Some of the survivors inside are blaming the current driver, some others are blaming the previous driver, while people are still suffering, the religious leaders (also unhurt) are leading prayers and calling on the heavens, the suffering and hurt ones still looking for help.

Which one are you, and what are you doing. Who are you blaming?
Great read. nice one OP..

What things do you do differently??

How are your thoughts, words and actions helping You, Us, and your Country.

Accepting responsibility is the first step to changing anything.

Nigeria is in Hard times today, and I blame no one but myself. There is always something I can do to help. There is always something you can do too to help this situation.

I remember in an intercity commercial bus from Ph to Lagos, the driver drove above the speed limits and took some careless maneuvers and some times we spoke out "Ha!!! driver easy oh" at other times we just kept quiet cos some of us also felt we needed to maximise daylight through the rough patches before it gets dark.

Same day, with another set of passengers travelling from Ijebu-Ode to Ibadan, The first little attempt by the aged driver to make any careless maneuver was loudly resisted by all, with echos of "Ahh!!! Baba, di e di e oh (diye diye)(as in, small small, Easy easy), and so he continued cautiously through the journey.

When a driver is driving, it is the collective responsibility of all the passengers to be conscious, sober, and vigilant. In this failure in Nigeria today. No one is exempted

So no need complaining now that, this driver should know what he is doing, or he promised to take you to your destination, or that the previous driver used up all the fuel or messed up the vehicle. The problem is already here, Let us start thinking and doing what we can to bring ourselves out of this, lets treat the wounded, help ourselves and work together irrespective of tribe, political and religious affiliations to get this vehicle working again.

No more passive concern (Sit and observe, complain and blame)

We can do this.

Lets start thinking, lets question our old ways of doing things, don't give up and allow a nonfunctional process continue, profer your solution as best as you can.

THINK!!!

God Bless Nigeria

My thoughts, feel free to share yours too.

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Soldiers Murdered In Niger State! Why Play Politics With Our Military? by diegwu01: 11:04pm On Aug 11, 2016
freeze001:
Point of correction: He didn't go to boost no morale, he went to personally ensure military operation and protection of his cattle and those of his brethren. In other words, he cares only to the extent that his beloved cattle are kept safe. That is what a president of his calibre is fit for, deploying 1000 soldiers to guard cattle against rustlers.
He didn't need to be told to do this but has failed to do same for areas where humans are rustled and slaughtered everyday by his kinsmen despite repeated public demands and outcry; even when there was enough advance notice that would have thwarted such evil attacks as was the case in Nimbo, Enugu. Even where the soldiers go, their intent is to dispossess the vulnerable indigenes of their honour and motley supply of weapons gathered to defend themselves as in the case of Niger state. Still, I don't hear or read pepole like you calling for drone strikes by the Army to level the area but if the SS or SE bomb pipelines or engage in mass peaceful protests, all your mouths will be opened wide and fingers will be feverishly typing support for massive military offensive like the Odi massacre in Bayelsa. Hypocrisy is evil o!

We banned importation of rice to improve our local production and to reduce dollar demand (this in turn will help naira stabilise and create employment)

As for the importation of grass they are ment to be planted, for cows to eat and this would bost meat production, it's more like importing improved seeds for farming, u can buy cow n train if u wish

Nigerians are really unintelligent really.... If u still can see that our economy is being diversified then u are dull

Even American Soldiers Died everyday in Afghanistan, the Soldiers were ambushed unexpectedly both in Niger and Bayelsa State, In the case of Bayelsa, the Killers were disguised as Mourners, No government prays for the death of any member of their armed forces but this things occur unfortunately. Why say the president doesn't care, he was in that region barely last month to boost morale of the troops.
The worst case would be for all the members of our armed forces to Resign because the country is, according to you, "messed up" May God comfort the bereaved and bless all members of our Armed forces and their families.
