the oil didn't start pumping out of the ground, investments was made in exploring it with money from palm oil, rubber, timber, cocoa, ground nut, kola nut, cashew e.t.c which were our forex earners before oil.
Agreed for years they were neglected by oil companies with active connivance of local chiefs and leaders but things have changed over they years as a result of their agitations. They now have NDDC, AMNESTY PROGRAMME, 13% DERIVATION, MIN. OF NIGET DELTA..... all these bodies and what they do ensures at least 30% of oil proceeds goes directly to Niger delta, this is a huge amount that could turn the whole niger delta into paradise if only they have visionary leaders .......The recent happenings around oil price globally is a wake up call to Niger delta leaders to be more proactive.

Other Nigerians are NOT the problem of Niger Delta people but their LEADERS .

1. Most southerners still hold the notion that northerners are mostly illiterates and not good for any appointments

3. Most of the appointment of this government goes to the north/south west being the major blocks that form the APC ruling party that's why theres always murmurings whenever appointments are made because few appointments come from the east / south south and rightly so because they are and will never be part of this government

I dare you to do a detailed analysis of heads of government agencies and parastatals (over 600 of them ) and you will realize you have been unjustly accusing this government of nepotism... Southerners head far more agencies than northerners

Besides what exactly is wrong if northerners are more in the security services are the southerners not dominant in health, education, commerce, industry, law, science and technology etc.....
