It’s not that we hate taxes — we hate watching our money disappear into the bloated pockets of thieving politicians. I don’t pay because in Nigeria, taxes don’t build roads or fund education; they bankroll private jets, champagne parties, and side chicks. So what’s the point?

Look at Akpabio running his mouth like a clown on a payroll — and we’re supposed to fund that circus? Hell no.

People don’t mind paying tax when it builds something. But here? It’s like donating to a cartel and expecting development in return. Utter madness.

Spare me of any preaching bro.

The whole point of taxation is to contribute a fair share toward government expenditure, and I have paid more than enough through indirect taxes. The government can’t preach about proper taxation when they haven’t shown any atom of good faith.

Public schools and hospitals? Really? Most public schools serves as public toilets where boys go to answer natures call, don’t let the metropolis you live deceive you.

Public hospitals where people die waiting to be attended to? Even after they are attended to after ages, recommended meds or even tests are still unaffordable. Don’t get me started on the mayhem GOP doctors cause, dishing out meds for things they have no idea about.

Those infrastructures you sited are financed through aggressive borrowing which are heavily serviced and in turn cause a strain on our FX reserves. When the naira dips, me the tax payer suffer the most while those who collect these taxes had looted half of borrowed funds.

Civil servants that you literally have to still bribe so they can attend to you? grin

Police that are known more for extortion than providing security??

Doctors that one barely have access to? Try go to a public hospital Diggz and see if you will see the doctor even after spending 8 hours there.

I pay separately to finance my own security in my estate, so??

Where is the clean water these tax collectors provide ?? Ridiculous!!

Enough said, I have contributed my fair share through indirect taxes and paying that income tax is part of the reason I quit salary job.
I’m fully aware that most public services, infrastructure and institutions are broken. I even referenced that in my previous post. There’s a reason I pointed out that not everyone who pays tax actually benefits from it, especially in a place like Naija.

However, if you went through the public system from primary school to university, like most people here probably did, and now that you’re earning, you’re refusing to contribute to that same system just because “every penny can’t be accounted for”,then honestly, e no make sense.

Just so you know, you’re denying the extremely poor a fair shot at education, healthcare, and other basic services whether directly or indirectly, no matter how bad the system may seem to you.

By the way, I’m only asking you to remember that poor people in society still need that general hospital you call rubbish, or the same public school that you may never have to send your own children, nieces or nephews to. Blueray already touched on the importance of the policemen we all love to hate, so I won’t bother going there again.

Not everything must benefit you and your family directly before you remember that others need it too. If everybody decide not to pay one kobo of tax like you, na only God sabi wetin go remain for this country.

Las las sha..make you do you, but no come here come complain about your leaders oooo….because them be a reflection of you and I.

Carry on brother!! 99 percent of Nigerians are hypocrites who only condemn things they don’t benefit from. Almost everyone hates paying personal incomes taxes and if an opportunity presents itself, they will evade and also avoid paying them by any means possible.

Who will listen to Akpabio’s statement of “they should continue protesting while we continue eating” and go yes!! I want to hand over my taxes to such a system. Only restraint is keeping me from saying that every single individual in Nigeria pay personal income taxes unwillingly.

Most of the things that we buy in this country have already been taxed with some being taxed heavily. Considering the poor services we get from these people, I already consider such indirect taxes an unfair contribution from my part.

Same Nigeria that touts levy bikemen heavily just so they could carry passengers and suffer on death traps called roads. Same bike man will pass that tout’s levy to you while you climb his bike and the bad roads will shake your whole intestine. Heavily pregnant women who had just paid their tax through the bike man sometimes cry on top of bikes. Make we just dey play.

Lest I forget, around February, I paid 10k levied on everyone living in the estate to construct a strategic road leading to the estate. We are just jokers on this board.
I’m sorry to say, but you’re not making any sense with the position you’ve taken. Yes, it’s true that most people may not want to pay taxes, but you can’t just ignore the fact that taxes fund many of the things we all rely on — no matter how deadbeat or broken some of them may seem right now.

We’re talking about:
- Public schools and hospitals
- Roads, bridges, and transport systems
- Salaries of civil servants, police, security officers, teachers, doctors, and more
- Clean water, electricity, and essential infrastructure

Even if the system isn’t perfect, and not everyone enjoys all the benefits listed above, refusing to pay tax doesn’t help — it only makes things worse.
If you want to complain about how public funds are being spent, you should at least be contributing. That’s how you earn the right to hold leaders accountable.

No be only to shout “corruption” — we all have to carry our share of the load. That’s how real change begins.

You keep talking like Nigeria is a textbook case. It's not. And until we start addressing it as it is, not how it’s supposed to be, we’ll just be reciting civic nursery rhymes while the country burns.

Yes, government is supposed to regulate, license, maintain, and serve. But we both know that in practice, they barely function unless there's personal profit involved. You say the government regulates waste disposal—yet refuse still floods the streets. You say roads would be worse without government—yet many are unmotorable, and the ones that work were often built by state governments, foreign aid, or private entities just trying to save their own necks.

As for tax funding all this? Let’s not pretend our taxes are going into service delivery. Nigeria’s budget gets looted at every stage—from inflated contracts to ghost workers to padded allocations. Even oil revenue, which should supplement IGR, is routinely mismanaged or siphoned. So when you tell me my taxes are "needed" to fix the rot, my honest question is: fix what? Or fatten who?

Yes, private schools and hospitals are licensed by the government. But that’s all the government does: license and harass them for levies. They're not being enabled, they’re being tolerated. The quality of service there isn’t a product of government support—it’s in spite of it.

And please, the "Tunji-Ojo passport reform" praise is premature. Fixing what shouldn't be broken in the first place isn't progress—it's basic decency. When people clap for that, it just shows how starved we are for competence.

You're saying my stance hurts the common man. But no, what hurts the common man is a system that forces him to pay tax, delivers nothing, and protects looters. You want to guilt me into funding that mess? That's not patriotism, that's Stockholm syndrome.

So yes, I avoid giving money to thieves. That doesn’t mean I’m the reason the house is on fire. I’m just refusing to pass them fuel.
Bros, I beg you in God’s name — at least try to pay your tax. You can’t be condemning those looting the country if you’re also part of the problem. You sef check am……you no fit dey shout “thief thief” when your own hand still dey inside the pot of stew, haba!

People will definitely migrate. But when you make it an agenda to include conquering and terrorism, you need to go back to your roots.

Even when the West left Afghanistan for good, they still ran away. You can blame the West for instability there, but you cannot blame the West for their radicalism.

I really hoped his deportation was swift.[/color]
Obviously, I’m not blaming the West for their radicalism. However, just as oil and water don’t mix, expecting to import large numbers of people who see you as infidels and still live in harmony is unrealistic.

The claim that man made isn’t unique to Canada—it’s happening in most Western countries as well. Another concern is that while birth rates among native Western populations have declined, these groups are having, on average, at least four children. Over time, this raises the possibility that their population could surpass that of native Westerners in their own countries. What do you think would happen then?

Exactly! No remote work allowed here—he should go back to his own country to practise the nonsense he’s preaching. If you look closely, he’s probably living off whatever benefits the Italian government has provided him, all while campaigning for nonsense. Once again, this situation reflects some of the broader consequences the West is facing as a result of its involvement in destabilising the Middle East.

By the way, the Italian Prime Minister’s decision on this matter partly reflects the stance taken by the Polish government: zero acceptance of refugees and zero tolerance for those who wish to live in their country while attacking its faith or its people.
