enieme:Read: This Way For A Shroud and you'll be held spellbound by the character Jack Maurer and his battle for survival. Chase is a very good writer and to think he had not visited America when he wrote most of his novels is astonishing. He wrote most of his novel with a map of the cities. |
Countrygirl:LOL. I guess you fell in love with him. ![]() On a serious note, everything and everyone he loved treated him badly: His mother who was the apple of his eyes, his girlfriend Clara, the government he worked for and even his dad maintained a deafening silence when he ought to have spoken. (Despite the fact that he disobeyed his own father and followed the whiteman's religion, after witnessing his father kill Ikemefuna) Achebe was bent on 'destroying' the young man. He gave him no opportunity to 'defend' himself. |
dapsoneh:Some of you have no literary appreciation, downright silly and ignorant. Brimming with empty confidence and idiotic submission. What you don't know is bigger thaan you so why don't you just shut up! I enjoyed this every bit of the way. |
I need your service. Where are u based? |
Tiwa was the witch in Tunji's life, not her mum. She said her phone was taken from her so she wasn't aware of what he wrote, yet expected him to be found - dead( he did something to himself). She also knows that what she'd say will make him commit suicide cos he's suicidal yet she went on. I pity that Tunji and his lazy ass. |
Ok |
It is a shame that the Governors of Benue and Plateau states whose people had been massacred by these blood-thirsty Fulanis are part of the 19 northern governors that issued the press statement. Are they not? |
malton:The young man said the truth and don't let your parasitic nature consume you like your brother Tee Billz. People should control their resources and pay subvention to the government at the center. If the government at the center cannot sustain itself, let it wound up. |
new2020:I am not form the Niger- delta but I think your people are worse than you think( no insult intended). Even when a Niger-deltan gets an opportunity to do something for his people, they decide to steal them blind. Go to you place and see a few living in outrageous opulence while the many are dying of abject poverty. Most niger deltans don't have honest intentions about their people and this is their first problem. They can get 50% derivation if they have one voice and purpose but it will still be stolen by their own people. Your people are the only people that can shut this country down and all of us will listen. Then you can press your demands. BTW, GEJ and Amaechi are the biggest clowns from your side. |
lilzcee:The least I scored in Literature in Secondary school was 99%. I always made 100%. In WAEC, I made a C5 in Literature and was terribly disappointed. My teacher too was cos he had boasted to people that I would make an A1 in the subject. I don't know how WAEC exminers mark that literature. Just don't let them discourage you. |
vb0mb:Anthills of the Savannah? You just reminded me that I have not 'revised' this novel in a long while. I shall fish it out and read again. If my anger with the drunken Police man will allow me read it to the end. Why does Achebe always seek to destroy his characters? Even Obi Okonkwo (No Longer at Ease), whose grandfather he already destroyed in 'Things Fall Apart' and Odili (A man of the People) were not spared in the end. Achebe has a way of mocking his characters and exposing their flaws not visible to the 'naked' eye. |
Taduma1:Have you read the book before? The movie was not a Hollywood movie. The crew were whites, they only used a Nigerian cast cos of the rich Igbo culture that pervades every line of the book and could not have been well interpreted by non-Igbo Nigerians. |
Should the question arise without reasons? |
Things Fall Apart is better because of the plot, theme and rich display of Igbo culture inherent. It told a story - our story - of the black man's struggle to maintain his independence and ways and how the whitemen forced their ways down our throat. They started by giving recognition to those rejected by the society and emboldened them to challenge the status quo. It pitted brother against brother. It brought about what we experience till date in Africa - love of the whiteman and his ways more than ours and ourselves. Obierika, Okonkwo's friend, described it all when he said about the whiteman: "He has put a knife on what holds us together...things fall apart" Arrow of Gods is another good story of the fight against modern and ancient. It confuses me sha, because I always feel there was no need for the god ulu to treat Ezeulu the way it did or is it that Achebe in his characteristic way of destroying his characters was in a hurry to 'deal' with Ezeulu? Here is a man who spoke the truth and his people conspired against him. The god he served faithfully, who was already being challenged to a fight by lesser gods like Idemili and Ogwugwu decided to make a poor show of itself and disgrace its priest, thereby allowing his enemies to triumph over him. Arrow of God holds me spell bound whenever I read it again and I have read it more than 100 times. |
I pity the innocent child brought into the world. |
Africans should love Africa cos when we do, we shall aspire to develop it. |
BecaciaBarbie:I have observed that once you refuse to allow your woman misbehave, she calls you 'insecure' Tee billz was not insecure and allowed his wife all the freedom in the world to dress and dance anyhow(she is a sex symbol. Oh yeah?). I even saw a picture of him showing her ass and saying "ass like a licence plate". He treated his marriage like boyfriend and girlfriend matter and forgot that no matter how a Nigerian gilr desire to do 'oyibo' type of love; within her lies her mother and that African woman that is not used to oyibo love. Teee billz compared his wife to Omawumi but refused to compare himself to Omawumi's husband. The hand you give woman is the hand she go use follow you and she will keep gaining ground if you don't stand firm. I don't support a man beating his wife. I am just trying to define the word insecure as used by women. |
Funny ![]() The dude must be possessed by the spirit of APC to beat her with a broom. |
This is not his office. If this picture was taken in Abuja, then that should be Transcorp Hilton. I doubt that too. Looks like a hotel in Lagos or a developing country. |
Advans:Imagine! And Adenuga calls himself a Nigerian. |
The storm is gathering and the night of long of knives is fast approaching. Until then, we shall massage the boil and soothe it with gentle blow of the wind, while wishing it would not trouble us as much as to prevent our daily routine and lives from carrying on. |
If this is true, I salute her courage for standing for the truth, now that most people in her category are afraid to talk. I hope that God intervenes in this country again like he always do when a leader who wants to inflict hardship on his people or derail this country comes on the scene. If Buhari is allowed to run this 'normadic' economic policy of his for four years, this country might crash. PS: this is not about wailer or zombie. Anyone that genuinely love this country ought to be worried in the direction Buhari is carrying us. There is no economic policy in place in a country of almost 180 million people. We all should be worried and make this government sit up. From GEJ to Buhari is like from frying pan to fire. Time we tried our technocrats for the office of President. |
Is he buying the treadmill, investing in it or test running a new one, that one of his numerous business interests just started? No one hits the gym in a suit. Not even Prince Charles or the Duke of Edinburgh, who are so British . PS: I just remembered that he is/was chairman of Transcorp. He's just doing business. |
iKarma:Patriotism is not support for a government. It is support to the country |
iKarma:Does the above sound intelligent to you? |
Waning or finished? iKarma:I try to hold the government accountable and make it stand on it's feet. Why do supporters of Buhari see any criticism of him as a personal affront? You people are going to destroy him that way. GEJ started like that and ended up woefully. If your intention is the good governance and well-being of the country, you should know that after an election you should also work hard, by way of constructive criticism and proferring solutions to ensure the government lives up to expectation. Support borne out of sentimet or 'we Vs them' mentality is how to destroy a leader and derail him. Truth is Buhari has totally failed to live up to expectation and has continued in that regard. Infact many APC people I know are only interested in managing him and avoiding an open confrontation so they don't lose the power to the PDP. They are all waiting for 2019 to tell him his fu*k up and ask him to go home and rest. The language then would be "no one is bigger than the country". |
What a rush! I will dance alanta that day. Unfortunately, this is just a publicity stunt. It seems their revenue has taken a plunge and they want to get a wider audience. Ndi ara! |
She chopped your money and called you mugu? Walk away and learn from it. Sh!t happens. Ask Teebillz... |
raumdeuter:You made valid points there. The husband might be guilty of all those things, but didn't she 'study' him while they were courting? I think she is tired and wants to leave the marriage. Who is the big bros she ran to for money? From her tone, she is expecting the worst to happen to the guy, yet she acts to be praying for him. She even said she knows watching the interview might trigger the ex to commit suicide. What a wife! Final prayer: God give us a hustling spirit, bless our hustle and crown it with an understanding woman. |
I was in Kano when the result of the last Presidential elections were announced. Many illiterate keke drivers and youths without skills declared Abuja their destination. They said this was the first time that power was actually coming into their hands since 1999. They thought their new found power would embolden them to do whatever they wanted, just like old times. PMB, at a time too, had to warn that if you have no business, don't come to Abuja. This was directed at his teeming illiterate supporters in the north. I guess they didn't listen. This crime can only be committed by a fool and ignoramus devoid of the rudimentary knowledge of our Laws and civil ethics. |
The Ayguru got most sha except: 3. Money don't grow on trees. 8. Once in a blue moon. |
