DeepSight: Small question which leaps to mind, for LordReed and Gang (Diridiri, Tamaratonye1) -
What do you think accounts for the sometimes radically different personalities of siblings who may have grown up together and thus received virtually identical sets of experiences and "nurture."
To bring this question into greater lucidity, presuppose identical twins raised together and who, like my own younger brothers, do everything together from infancy up into their present forties. Would I be correct in assuming that you are suggesting an inherent nature subject to, but not necessarily originating from one's experiences? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Matter And Mind by diridiri(m): 1:03pm On Feb 07, 2022 |
DeepSight: Well let me just clarify here that what I advance is no dualism of the "self" but actually a singular immaterial self dwelling in a material encasement, which for all practical purposes has the nature of a biological machine or robot, complete with its very advanced computerized section, which you may call the brain. Although this is definitely a possible explanation as to the nature of the "self", it's also unnecessary, the way I see it. What function of the self requires an immaterial component to be executed? I don't think any such function exists, but I'm always welcome to the possibility that I have missed something. Generally, if a detail in an explanation seems unnecessary or unjustified, I would consider the explanation incomplete regardless of whether the conclusion happens to be true or not. The same objection relates to your final comment. If the tool can explain the entirety of the functionality of the system, then why does the system require that the tool have a user? In the case of a wheelbarrow, for instance, knowing that a wheelbarrow cannot move on its own is enough for one to conclude that a moving wheelbarrow must be being moved, either by a human being, a steep hill, or some other source of energy. But in the case of our machine, we already have an explanation for where the energy needed for the computer to run comes from. Is there something that hints at an immaterial user? |

tctrills: We learn of Jephthah in Judges 11 who sacrificed his daughter. Was it an act of righteousness or murder? When Abraham wanted to sacrifice Isaac, was it not God that stopped him? So why did God not stop Jephthah? Obviously he wanted human sacrifice. The Bible says that God delights in the smell of burnt offering. Maybe the smell of goats and cows wasn't enough anymore. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Confusion! Is God A Mystery Or Trinity Is False Doctrine?? by diridiri(m): 12:27pm On Feb 07, 2022 |
Nobody555: Important note! Pls ensure to make your responses short and precise. Referencing the bible is very essential. No insult on personal level or religion is allowed pls. Let's try to portray Christ in our character and how we interact with others. Don't try to force your opinions on others, it's an open discussion. When proving your point, asking questions is better than making assertions.
Since when i was in my early teens, i have been finding it hard to comprehend and believe the Trinity. I'm often told that I need to believe God as mystery. So i wonder, how can I know or walk with a mystery God? I also wonder if the the disciples and the early church understand God as three persons in one God or one God in three persons or just one singular God, a person?
John 14:17,26 [17]He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth....... [26]But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
The question here is if the holy spirit taught the apostles and first believers everything and led them into all truth, why are we still left to believe God as mystery? Another question is those that established the Trinity doctrine years later after the early christians, were they led by the holy spirit?
"Trinitarians believe that the one God eternally exists in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that these three are one God, co-equal and co-eternal, having precisely the same nature and attributes, and worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence, and obedience".
Now this thread will focus mainly on the "COEQUALNESS" of the Trinity members. Other qualities will be discussed in my subsequent thread. Is the Father greater than the son? Are YHWH and Jesus really coequal?
John 14:28 [28]Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. 1 Corinthians 11:3 [3]But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
There is no mention of the Trinity in the Gospels, and anyone who quotes anything apart from the Gospels is an idiot, since most of those things are letters written by apostles and not holy scriptures. You can even see the disagreements that Paul had with Peter or James the brother of Jesus in the different letters they wrote (like whether faith alone will take you to heaven or not, or the importance of circumcision, or the relationship between the Gospels and the Gentiles, and so on and so forth). |
Christianity Etc › Re: Are Jehovah Witnesses Right About Their Belief Against Blood Transfusion? by diridiri(m): 12:24pm On Feb 07, 2022 |
cornelboy:
God’s View of Blood Blood is vital. Without it, none of us could live. As the Creator, God has the right to say how blood may be used. What has he said about blood? Can it be eaten or transfused? And how can you make good decisions on this matter? 1. What is Jehovah’s view of blood?Jehovah told his worshippers in Bible times: “The life of every sort of flesh is its blood.” (Leviticus 17:14) To Jehovah, blood represents life. Since life is a sacred, or holy, gift from God, blood is also sacred. 2. What use of blood does God forbid?Jehovah commanded his pre-Christian worshippers not to eat blood. (Read Genesis 9:4 and Leviticus 17:10.) He confirmed this command when the governing body instructed Christians to “keep abstaining . . . from blood.”—Read Acts 15:28, 29.What does it mean to abstain from blood? If a doctor told you to abstain from alcohol, you would not drink it. But would you eat foods that contained it or have alcohol injected into your veins? Obviously not. Likewise, God’s command to abstain from blood means that we should not drink blood or eat meat that has not been bled. Nor should we eat any food to which blood has been added. What about the medical use of blood? Some procedures clearly violate God’s law. These include the transfusion of whole blood or any of its main components—red cells, white cells, platelets, and plasma. Other medical procedures may not be a clear-cut violation of God’s law. For example, some procedures involve the use of fractions of one of the main components of blood. Other procedures involve the use of a person’s own blood. When weighing these options, each of us must make a personal decision.—Galatians 6:5. All Christians are wrong about most things, so yes. They will quote Leviticus 17:10, but they will not quote the passage in the bible that says you should stone a woman to death if she does not scream loudly enough while getting raped (Deuteronomy 22:23-24) or the one that says you should stone disobedient children to death, and so on and so forth. I don't care what idiotic jargon they believe in though, as long as they stop knocking on my door on Saturday mornings while I'm trying to sleep. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Matter And Mind by diridiri(m): 12:14pm On Feb 07, 2022 |
DeepSight: Let me just add with respect to this here: this is probably the most profound question a human being will have to deal with in his or her evolution. It is a question every bit as mystical and perplexing as the nature of reality itself, the nature of time, the source of life and the cause of the universe. I often find myself wondering if those people who call themselves materialists have taken time to stare deeply at their own reflection in a mirror and truly absorb themselves in it: because what must emerge is nothing short of a puzzling hall of mirrors which, if nothing else, removes every scintilla of doubt that the being that you are is not the encasement you stare at.
Apologies in advance to LordReed, who I must carefully note, does not say this. I consider myself a materialist, and I would say that the reverse applies to me: It was in my deep musings and long periods of inner exploration that I came to the conclusions that I hold now. Of the more conspicuous issues inherent to a non-materialistic perspective is it's dependence on the existence of something which, by its very nature, is immune to inspection (for if it were not, the question of the self would be trivial, wouldn't it?). It's a tempting angle to look at things from, but is too convenient an answer to such a difficult question - too convenient for myself, anyhow. The self, as it appears to me, is an algorithm build to repair the gaps formed by our memories and our capacity for inner examination. It's most critical function then is to create a consistent "being" - comprised of our thoughts, feelings, actions, reactions and relationships. Functionally this makes sense: most mental operations executed by the brain are sequential, and the output generated by them depends heavily on the output generated at a previous iteration. Our reactions to experiences depend heavily on our previous reactions to similar experiences, and our personalities are constructed by our experiences and our reactions to said experiences, which are also strongly correlated to our personalities at the time. For a self-feeding algorithm such as this to function properly, we must consistently perceive ourselves in one single stream of consciousness, so as to avoid mental confusion. I am often baffled by the perspectives of those who prescribe to a dualistic outlook of the self. Given the numerous cases of the physical configuration of the brain having direct, predictable effects on one's perception of the self, one would think that the dualistic perspective would have been largely abandoned by now. |

Christianity Etc › Re: How To Create Your Own Religion Easily by diridiri(m): 10:51am On Nov 22, 2020 |
this just goes to show how desperate mankind is to find solace from the fact that human beings are temporary they will believe absolutely anything you spoon-feed them to distract themselves from that fact, it's extremely tragic why would a merciful, kind god create us and leave us with the torture of knowing subconsciously that when we die we will cease to exist? there is no god, and if they were we would be immortal. the fear of death (whether literal or metaphorical) is the motivator of all evils in the world whether directly or indirectly GodWrites: People are always craving to believe in something bigger than them, and if you must control and exercise power, you must learn to create a cult-like fellowship. Trust me, this is very easy but requires persistence and TIME.
Talking about time, you will never be alive to see your new-found religion become a tool of mass delusion. Hundreds of years after your death, people will fight and kill themselves for something you created.
If you are serious about creating your own religion, don't do this alone. Here is a simple way you can lay the foundation of a new religion.
1. CREATE AN ATTENTION
First, attract attention. This you should do not through actions, which are too clear and readable, but through words, which are hazy and deceptive. Your initial speeches, conversations, and interviews must include:
* The promise of something great and transformative. * The other a total vagueness.
2. COPY FROM OTHER RELIGION
* Find a way both elevating and comforting. *Create rituals for your followers. *Organize them into a hierarchy, ranking them in grades of sanctity, and giving them names and titles that resound with religious overtones *Ask them for sacrifices that will fill your coffers and increase your power. *To emphasize your gathering's religious nature, talk and act like a prophet:
Christianity, for example, is the corrupt version of Paganism. Islam took from Christianity and so on. So, never be afraid to copy.
3. SET UP AN US-VERSE THEM DYNAMIC
Your religion is now large and thriving, a magnet attracting more and more particles. To keep your followers united, you must now do what all religions and belief systems have done: Create an us-versus-them dynamic.
· Make sure your followers believe they are part of an exclusive club, unified by a bond of common goals.· Manufacture the notion of a devious enemy out to ruin you.
There is a force of nonbelievers that will do anything to stop you.· If you have no enemies, invent one. Given a straw man to react against, your followers will tighten and cohere.
You must invent a devil, or your religion will be one without a foundation.
4. FEAR AND REWARD
Like every religion, they are created using the carrot and stick technique. Using extreme fear and reward to keep followers caged like a sheep. This is the main ingredient and if it is missing, your religion will never last.
Many world religions used a place of eternal suffering as it's a tool of fear, using the message of love as a decor; and heaven as a reward. You can use either fear or reward. Perhaps both! None should be missing.
5. BE PREPARED FOR THE UNBELIEVERS
Those who won't believe in your religion will definitely exist. Your job is not to convince them, but to build a mechanism in check. Which will ensure that these unbelievers don't take your sheep astray with their logic
"Only a fool says there is no God"
"At the last day, many false prophets shall rise"
A recent example of creating this quasi-religion cult-like fellowship is the case of MMM. The system was designed in a way that followers saw the government and the bank as enemies, with an aim to destroy the financial system and change the world.
The extreme fake reward of robbing Peter to pay Paul served as motivation. But like all pyramid schemes, there is always a peak.
Guess what, religion has no peak. Unless perhaps logic sets in. Even in that, the power of what you have created should be able to keep followers away from logic. They should be able to suspend their intelligence when dealing with this system which you have created.
When followers start indoctrinating their children, be rest assured that this religion might never fall again. It won't be easy for an indoctrinated child to kick against the religion he or she was brought up in. Certainly, he will key into the delusion.
Don't worry about writing a holy book. Passionate and smart followers will claim to receive from a divine source and pen down their delusion. They are smart entrepreneurs and politicians who have seen an opportunity to exploit using your system. They could do this for money or power. But be ready to keep pieces here and there for their use.
Go ahead and create a religion. You can be God, just like I. #winks |
