This is a test... 'Yes'. 'Yes?' 'Yes'. 'You just said yes'. 'No... I said no. Acting as if he is deaf'. 'Oh..Oh... The all righteous one. Mother queen of Zaganda. My own wife and doctor'. 'Kunle, stop. Just keep a lid on this... ERM.. This behavior... It's craziness. You're exhibiting a wrong attitude to my observation this morning, this time that we need you'.. ' Oh! Baby girl, that's rich coming from you. I'm suddenly the one acting crazy. That's rich'. ' No.. Not all... This is insane. We are supposed to be in support of each other. The truth is you know I didn't call you crazy'. 'If you like, call me crazy, I won't mind. We mirror people'. 'Wow... That's...Wow... You just called me crazy'. 'Context. Context. You're becoming something else, strange'. 'I'm not the one becoming strange. It's you. Ever since you met that lady, you've become suddenly strange'. 'Oh... Paranoia. Envy. You... Are... Wrong. Shola, you're wrong. She's an asset'. 'A very close one at that'. 'You're missing the point, Shola'. 'Indeed. Kunle. I've not suddenly become damaged and just having the same problem facing all the women in the world as you men will say. You know me, I'm a problem solver. I make cold calculations before I say something'. 'I think there is a glitch here. You're changing'. 'Please, Kunle. Don't belittle me. You're the one exhibiting change... You are getting too close to your mark'. 'Insinuations. Assumptions. Nothing has happened. Nothing will happen'. 'Calm down, Shola. You're missing the point I'm trying to pass here. This girl has a way around people. She will change you before you use her to get to her father. You read her file. She has changed a lot of people. She is mother Theresa'. 'That's not true'. 'It's true. You're changing too. You come late for meetings, you're becoming soft at heart and you know you're the one spearheading the attack on the capital next two weeks. We need you firm and sane. This mission will bring those perpetrators to justice'. 'Hmmm... I seems to get your point'. 'Baby.. I love you. Shola, I really do. I don't want to be the one to kill you. You know that's how it works. Get over her'. 'I'm not into her'. 'Get over her. We're the first of our kind. Fortune City needs us to be strong. Nigeria needs us'. ' I will'. 'Shola, will you change? Please, I need you to change'. 'I will change'. 'Yes? 'Yes'. *End* |

One time like that when the sky was dark and bereft of any star, two little boys, with two years' difference in age, stood on the edge of their parents' bed. A kerosene lantern sat on a stool at the end of the room, which was located in Fortune City, Nigeria. They watched their little sister, Tolani, groan as she spun from one side of the bed to another. Their mother said she was having a fever. The older of the boys was Femi, the one whose hair had already started giving the bald shape. Their mother, though not that rich, made sure his head was always shining to his chagrin. The other one, Lolu, was chubby and could spend the whole of the day eating. Some of their neighbours called him chicken because he was never filled with food. They glanced at their mother, who kept moving from place to place, picking one thing or the other. Despite being tender of age, they knew their mother was doing something different that night. On a normal night like that, they would have been thrown into their pyjamas and probably forced to close their eyes till sleep came because the next day was school. However, that night, they were putting on different clothes- the ones they wear to church on Sundays and wear to parties on Saturdays. She mumbled under her breathe and slammed the wardrobe. She zipped the big bag she used whenever they were travelling. When she was ready, she sat on the bed, woke their sister and tapped their cheeks. ' Babies, we're leaving your daddy and his family house. He doesn't want me to work. For crying out loud, the money is three hundred thousand naira as against the fifty thousand he gets from his wanton job'. She ushered them out, after crying for some minutes, and they left the house. For many years, she believed they didn't remember that they were just kids. But they did. Tolani grew up to see all men as scum and she grew up to love her career above all things. Femi grew up always giving women the chance to do what they desired. A few people praised him for being a real man. But many others called him Sissy. Lolu grew up to hate his mother and most ambitious women. He believed their love for money above family was the cause for him living without a father-figure in his life. Yet, their mother still felt sad despite the comfort she gave them. Should she have lived with a man that refused to allow her work because of his insecurities? Or should she have endured and see her family bloom into one with love and probably grow hungry for the comfort they never enjoyed? And the only answer she had for herself was: nothing can satisfy, nothing on earth. |
nastynic:Thanks a lot |
The sky crouched on the top of our house when father came home dejected. We all understood that- no money for food. Our mother glanced at us and we understood her. I ran to Iya Okiki, our neighbour with 50 naira and returned with 20 naira Okro and 10 naira grinded pepper. IBk and my mum with their plastics and torchlight entered the bush to hunt for snails. That night, we ate concoction Okro, Eba (or garri as some would call it) and snails. Thank God for the rain. |

I'm so sorry for the late response. I've been too busy to map out a good plan. So, I'll just list out the things we need in this session. 1. Welfare Group We need people that will do the job of looking out for writers or readers that go AWOl for a long time as well as other welfare features. 2. Front page: I need 7 or 14 Volunteers for this. Every day, I'm supposed to recommend two good stories for FP, but most times because of time constraints, I don't get to send some type of stories to FP. So, I need help in choosing the best two per day in this order Monday- Short stories. Tuesday- Romance Novels Wednesday- Crime Novels Thursday- Poems Friday- Crime Novels Saturday- Top ten stories of The Wee Sunday- Any stories, preferably a religion-related post Note: 1. I will create a thread where the volunteers only can post their FP suggestions 2. I will still be the one in charge of sending it for recommendations 3. Posts that are not complete but redirect us to other websites are not worthy of FP 4. Let's try to avoid the stories with excessive shorthands. Let's build a formidable community. 3. August Writing Competition: Last year, we had a writing competition. Now, we need volunteers to help with . 1. Publicity 2. Talking to sponsors( note that the game wasn't intended for money) 3. Judges ( Last year, we had Repogirl, Larrysun, and Audreytimms. I will reach out to them) 4. Members of the organising team can participate. 4. November Nairaland Month Legend: we want to get a feel of our former writers) 1. We need a thread where all their names will be mentioned 2. Volunteers will reach out to them. 3. These legends will write stories for the website. Remember, we are building a community, not a website. 5. First Literature session Get-Together- Probably, the biggest in Nigeria W need a big plan for it. The plan is to make it different from the regular Festival. 6. Literature Session Top Ten Works of The Week. 1. We need people to help select the best story of the week. a. Stories that beat imagination b. Stories that was worked on grammatically. 7. Our own Magazine. 1. We need ideas on how to raise fund 2. We need ideas on how to publish 3. We need ideas on publicity 4. The aim is for us to have it ready in January. 8. Any other idea Please indicate the part(s) you will like to be involved. Lol... This post is sweet, timely, sweet. I can relate with all of them. The brain of those female writers are crazily beautiful. I've related with many of them and can't help longing to be one myself. |
lekkxydinho:Simply count the vote and we'll share scores to see if there's any discrepancy. |
lekkxydinho:Not whining. You can vote once |
lekkxydinho:Yes.. I'll do . Meanwhile, we could use your help as the a vote counter too |
Fazemood:I'm so sorry, I thought I would just post it here .. But I and my team decided that since it was the first of the many, I should work on it for hardcopy publishing... So, at the moment, I'm adding new angles and suggestions. I probably would have finished it but ghostwriting pays more (smiles). If I want to publish it, I need money . But I hopefully will be through next week, then I'll post it here, hoping you'll be the beta readers Beta Readers: they point out strong points and weak points, raise suggestions and the first readers.. cc: Queenitee |
As a writer, author, publisher, you should consider registration with the Nigeria copyright commission (NCC). Why do you think you need a copyright? Copyright is the exclusive right to reproduce and to protect from unlawful production of certain type of creative work. By getting this copyright, your work will be automatically protected by copyright laws in Nigeria. The NCC, through the copyright notification scheme gives copyright owners the option to register their work and deposit a copy of the work in a database maintained by the NCC. You can obtain copyright for your books, music, films in Nigeria through; ONLINE REGISTRATION; This new system of obtaining copyright, allows for online registration of authors and their copyright works. The online platform for registration is called ‘the Nigeria e-copyright registration system’ you can check the website at www.eregistration.copyright.gov.ng . When you successfully log into the website, you proceed to create an account after which you register your work for a fee. Your work is however, protected by the NCC so you have no need to worry. PHYSICAL SUBMISSION; You can also submit your application directly through an agent for registration to any office of the commission nationwide. One will need to submit to the commission, a completed registration form, along with copies of the work, and evidence of payment of the prescribed fee. The rights which an author or copyright owner enjoy in a work include the right to be acknowledged in any use made of his work and also to prevent any derogatory use. The interesting part about this is that, the author of a work enjoys copyright throughout his lifetime and for 70years after his death. |
