The expired packet of biscuits

Barely two months after two men were caught peddling cartons of repackaged, expired Digestive biscuits, an unsuspecting consumer walked into a supermarket and bought one right off the shelf.

The furious consumer identified as David Onimisi King, decided to vent his frustration on his Facebook page. Here’s what he said below:

“BEWARE: NUTRITIONAL TERRORISM

I am by this post imploring all consumers of packaged foods to be very careful and observant when buying stuff. This morning I rushed out of the studio to get a snack and I saw this new pack of Digestive Biscuits that caught my fancy. I quickly perused the product information and saw that it was to expire in April 2017. I paid quickly, opened the pack and started munching while I waited for my balance. Then, I noticed that the piece of biscuit intercoursing with my mouth had a sour foul taste. In fact, it tasted like it had expired.

PAY ATTENTION: Get the latest gossips on Naij Gossip App

I looked at the product information again, and on close scrutiny, I discovered that the original expiry date had been nicely cleaned off and another expiry date, written on a sticker, was stuck in its place. This is another brazen display of man’s inglorious inhumanity to man. You can imagine the unquantifiable negative health effects that consumption of expired products can cause to the human body. A friend of mine lost her hearing permanently after consuming expired products. Another had a bout of catastrophic allergy that took years to heal.

But, some unscrupulous, demonic, carefree, money-mongering, cantankerous, nonsensical, barbarous, and utterly animalistic businessmen/women are still unconcerned about the harm they are causing people by making them consume expired products but only interested in the money they’ll make to further massage their evilly megalomaniacal egos.

I’m calling on the authorities, such as the Police, NAFDAC and other relevant agencies to quickly swing into action and arrest these serial killers, mass murderers, and nutritional terrorists. As you can see, it is not only people that carry bombs and guns that can be aptly referred to as killers and terrorists. There are many killers and terrorists who disguise as legit businesspeople.

Please comment on and share this post until it reaches the authorities concerned. You are by this action helping to save a life.”

What do you think?

PoliticsWhy Kebbi Denies Dangote Land –bagudu by divinehand2003(op): 5:49am On Jul 25, 2016
Adeniyi Olugbemi, Sokoto

Business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s plan to establish a sugar plantation and a factory in Kebbi State may have hit the rock, as indigenous land owners, who are mostly farmers, have refused to release their farm land.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said this at an interactive session with intellectuals of Kebbi State origin working at Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The session was held at the university’s auditorium. Also in attendance were members of the Kebbi State Students’ Union, UDUS chapter.

Governor Bagudu said that even at the offer of compensation, the farmers tenaciously held on to their land, saying that Dangote’s investment will not serve their interest.

He said, “Dangote Industries’ application for 54,000 hectares of land to establish a sugar factory pre-dated my administration, but they could only identify about 24,000 hectares suitable for sugar cane cultivation.

“When we came on board, there was pressure on us because all of those 24,000 hectares belong to farmers. And the proposal we met on ground was that those farmers would be paid compensation of about a hundred thousand naira per hectare.”

He said further, “As a government, the whole cabinet looked at the proposal. Our concern is, you are going to pay a farmer hectare of land where he produces his crops. You will be making an income of 700,000 a year where he has been making 100,000 and make him a labourer forever. How as a social policy can you justify this opportunity cost?

“What is the net contribution in output that this investment is going to bring, for instance, if you are replacing your current production of rice by the production of sugar cane?

“Let there be no mistakes about it, we welcome investors and we thank Dangote Industries for identifying Kebbi as one of those states he wants to invest in. But above all, the most important thing is the need to ensure that investments serve and benefit our people.

“We hope to convince Dangote that there are other ways this can be done to have better security for his investment, like agreeing that our farmers become his out-growers and he buys from them for production in his factory.”

On adding value to rice and wheat production, which the state is noted for, Governor Bagudu explained that his administration built two models whereby a farmer, given sufficient inputs without subsidy, would inevitably achieve better outcome than a farmer receiving subsidy but insufficient inputs.

“When we tested this by interacting with farmers, we were surprised by their acceptance of adequate inputs without subsidy versus subsidy without adequate inputs,” he said.

He identified lack of human resources, inadequate infrastructure and apathy to developmental values on the part of youths as problems of education in the state.

Bagudu also used the occasion to outline remarkable achievements his administration had recorded since assumption of office.

The event with over 40 Kebbi State indigenously ranked professors and others in attendance was chaired by Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, Vice-Chancellor, Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, also an indigene of Kebbi State.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom Judge Stops EFCC From Investigating State by divinehand2003(op): 8:55am On Jul 23, 2016
– A judge in Akwa Ibom barred the EFCC from investigating the finance of the state

– Banks were also instructed from giving information to the anti-graft agency

– The EFCC says it is unaware of the restraining order

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suffered a major setback in its quest to fight corruption as a state High Court in Akwa Ibom has given an interim injunction restraining it from investigating the financial management of the state.

Premium Times reports that the injunction was given on July 13 and it prevents the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Inspector General of Police from investigating Akwa Ibom.

The suit was filed by Uwemedimo Nwoko who is the attorney general on behalf of Akwa Ibom.

The presiding judge of the State High Court, Ikot Ekpene, Justice NFN Ntong ruled that the EFCC, ICPC and the police should not arrest, detain, or investigate “any person or persons whether past or present official in the Akwa Ibom state government without any report of indictment by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, pending the hearing and the determination of the Motion on Notice filed in this suit in order to forestall a breakdown of law and order”.

The judge barred the state accountant general, auditor general, and the state House of Assembly, including five from disclosing information on the state finances to investigators from EFCC and other federal agencies.

Mr. Nwoko in an interview on Friday, July 22 revealed that the state government went to court because EFCC wrote letters to banks requesting documents on state government transactions.

He argued that EFCC is just an agency of the federal government and isn’t empowered by the Nigerian Constitution to investigate the finances of the state and that Akwa Ibom is a federating unit in the Nigerian federation.

“It’s not about whether there’s anything wrong with the accounts of the Akwa Ibom state government! Why should the EFCC look into it? Is the state looking into the federal government account?”

Mr. Nwoko pointed out that other state governments that allowed EFCC to investigate them lack wisdom and courage to challenge the federal government.

He said: “As the attorney general of Akwa Ibom state, I am setting a precedent.”

The court fixed August 5 for hearing of the Motion on Notice. However, the spokesperson of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren said he was unaware of the restraining order.
