zeemoore: Djicemon, I'm sorry if you feel offended by my post
I was just playing around, didn't know it won't go down well with you
***

In my previous post, I said 6ix is the lepa version of illbliss and
I don't see why you should like yung6ix over illbliss when both of them are wack as f^ck

Once again, ndo kiss kiss
Now we r talkin like adults...U dont see y "I" should like yung6ix over illbliss cos u think they are both wack? To U or to the world? Rememba i said his one of the rappers "i" like. His wack to u dont mean his wack to me.So y say u dont see y i like him, like everybody is suppose to hate him?

zeemoore: Stop lacing your skunk weed with heroin grin
Biko, read my first post AGAIN

Are you from warri? grin
Seriously u were making sense until now.And besides i dont know what ur point is anymore.u said("i dislike illbliss and like yung6ix? i must be high on sapele water)or is dat not what u wrote?...And,Why resort to insults?...At this juncture i think it'll be pointless arguing with someone like u.
Music/RadioRe: Naija Rappers And Musicians I Dislike by Djicemob(op): 6:45pm On Jul 10, 2014
zeemoore: You don't get it, do you?
I never said illbliss is an excellent emcee
He is always going in grin
The man is feeling like the lick loss (rick ross) of naija grin
He just sits his fat azz down and speak on beats

What brilliance?
The album is just there
I guess you ignored his weak bars to have called him/it brilliant
I still don't get the message he tried passing across with the 6'o clock album
It sounded more of a mixtape with original beats than a good album
There is no line of thought that connects the songs on the album
But u said i must be high on sapele water to prefer yung6ix over illbliss, meanin illbliss is beta abi? But i can tell u this anyday anytime,i would prefer a yung6ix than an illbliss always...Reasons are obvious.
Music/RadioRe: Naija Rappers And Musicians I Dislike by Djicemob(op): 10:27am On Jul 10, 2014
zeemoore: You dislike illbliss but like yung6ix?
You must be high on sapele water grin
Like the other poster above me said, the rapper who calls himself 'king of the south' is the lepa version of illbliss
Both are known for spitting chewing gum punchlines and their loud mouths with weak bars
*****
I took some time to listen to 6ix's turn up ft Ice prince and I must say i was really impressed
I didn't know ice can still rap
He was spitting mad bars on the track
His verse is a testament to how good he could have been if he never used the aboki flows
I feel u but then again ask urself,is illbliss that good? If yes? How? Tell me one or two recognized line of his that caught ur attention. Is it "times 10 the flow so butty" or "i fit break ur head with coke bottle" grin...am still waitin..but before then,i would advice u to soak urself on that 6'0 clock album amd u'll be amazed by yung6ix brilliance.

My suggestions:
1.Please dont let us know who likes our post.
2.Please no dislike button.
3.There should be an "add as friend" and also the "following" feature separately.
4.The peeps u add as friend would have to accept or decline ur request. If they accept,u can have a chat with them privately.
5.There should be a chatroom section which should have different rooms for chatting eg.Places(for ppl in the different states of nigeria),flirt zone, schools, professions, football zone(and other sports zone),language zone, country, music chatroom and so on...

birdman: All genres of music borrow from each other. Question: what does mode9 add to his rap that differentiates him from the 10000 other rappers in the US alone. If I walked into an nyc bar and saw mode9 rapping, I could be fooled into thinking he is fam from up the block. Thats how hard he worked on his flow. Unfortunately, there's a thousand others like that in the same area. Americans arent looking to Nigerians to show them what they already have. They want to see something different from you, otherwise they would just mind themselves and not bother.

With olamide etc, I can still see elements of rap, but they added their own unique twists to it. And you dont have to rap in Berom or Yoruba before its unique. Dbanj is not even really a musician, yet Kanye was interested, because of the uniqueness. Rake on olamide, phyno all you want. they are savvier than "real" rappers as you put it.
The difference is that,mode9 centers his rap around the nigerian context(go listen carefully to his sh#t) and also spit words of wisdom as an added bonus(its like u buy 1 and get 1 free). He doesnt talk about poppin bottles and rockin biitches in clubs(like the americans).Ice-prince,olamide etc on the other hand are guilty of this...So now u tell me whose being fake?

MadCow1: What is culture?

Belief, customs, art, way of life..

When a Rapper like Rick Ross talks about Rims, popping bottles and drop tops, he is talking about the black culture that is prevalent in the US black populated neighborhoods. When they sing about drugs, guns and prison, it's actually what they live. Whilst Tupac goes hard and comes at it from a more political standpoint, Ross goes a different direction and talks about it froma more embracing perspective. None I 'realler' than the other, just two sides of a coin.

That's why I say to all the so-called real hip-hop heads to simply stick to your side of the coin and stop trying to flip things. At the end of the day, the content are based on the same subjects.
While rick ross talks about being gangsta,2pac lives it.To me sh#t can't get no realler than that and that's the point.

Art of peer pressure(kendrick lamar)
Dear mama(2pac)
Lost ones(jcole)
Crooked smile(jcole)
Cry(modenine)

Story story(Erigga)Yea him!
And so on...
Are the quintessential example of how a true rap music in its purest form should be like, cos of the message and story in the 3min plus item, irrespective of the artiste or language. And this is why its important to save real rap music in nigeria.

birdman: "real" rap was never popular in Nigeria, talk less of it declining. Even when the Wu Tang were a force to be reckoned with, mostly "americanized" Nigerians with access to satellite TV cared.

As much as like like underground rap, I am not overly impressed with mode9 etc. I think they are as good as any other rappers out there, but something about a loss of originality bothers me. At best, Nigerian rappers are clones of the American versions. And something about not bieng completely original always diminishes you. Which is why even americans appreciate a dbanj or ice prince more. why do you think anybody is going to respect you for being a copycat?
And iceprince is not a copycat? Why didnt he wear agbada to the BET? Why does he keep shouting "nigga" nigga" in his songs? Why rush into collabos with these american stars? Why not use berom which is his own dialect to rap? Originality? Why didnt BET pick olamide or phyno to rep naija at the Awards? Dont be deceived bro,as long as rap is concerned, all em naija MCs are copy cats including Olamide and Phyno etc.Thanks.

mbulela: I am assuming you have an alternative source of income for them?
When we spout all this love and passion c.rap, we need to balance it with reality. It is fine doing this in late teenage and early twenties when you are still young and do not have responsibilities but when you are a grown man,you need to find a way to make the love and passion pay your bills. Unless you have another job and doing music by the side.
However, I still believe you can still do real hip hop and make it commercially successful. While the listeners are lazy,I also think the artistes are lazy too.
So u r saying music is now like a gateway shortcut to riches right? This,my good friend,is the problem. And this is why upcoming artistes fail even before starting. *Weeping* for nigerian music future.
Music/RadioRe: Is Real Hip-hip/rap Facing Extinction In Nigeria? by Djicemob(op): 11:17am On Jul 08, 2014
MadCow1: grin

Poems are way more vast than Rap music in intellectual content and scope of what they cover. #No Contest.

The diciphering aspect makes for an even more interesting intellectual exercise.

Rap on the other hand is limited in scope of topics covered. I am yet to hear any Rap that talks about the sufferings of the Girl Child, But I have heard my mian Nigga tell his Girls Biitches to pull their panties to the side and work his diick like a lollipop... grin

Yup! I have heard rap talk more about Guns and not snitching in the hood and hating on Police and other such stuff ad even talk about going to jail like Jail was the new Marriots Hotel for street Niggas. grin

If you are in tune with the Gangsta side of you more than the actual tre life you living everyday (as a Nigerian), then Hip Hop rap is your Poem.
Rap is limited in scope of topic covered? Now i know u been sleepin on real rap and artistes like:Lupe fiasco,Jcole,Talib kwali, immortal tech, our very own modenine(with "cry)and so on.Bro stick to ur 2chainz,rich gangs,Asap rockys and all em gangsta wannabes.

njokusboy: Same old overflogged, baseless argument.... The truth is as simple as ABC, NOT EVERYBODY IS INTERESTED IN CRACKING METAPHORS OR LISTENING TO PUNCHLINES.... Its the same way everyone aint interested in poetry... The animosity here is due to the fact that the makers and listeners of this genre of music are not willing to accept that other people do not share same interest.... Nd what is real rap/hip-hop, music is an art and real is relative.... I do not care what mode nine has to say, if I want words of wisdom, I'd pick a book... I can't just waste my time listening to a 10-20 track CD, with similar boring tune, drab choruses and verses with "words of wisdom"... I might just as well pick up a poem book.... Truth is, most of this artistes are not versatile, they don't go commercial because they cannot go commercial, its not because they don't want to... Let's face it, mode9 cannot sing to save his life... Versatile people like eminem, kendrick, nd MI (when he did safe, not now), have made nice tunes with sweet choruses whilst making sense at the same time.... The world is not static, change is a constant, one must adapt... Mode9 and the others may be more lyrical, but phyno, olamide etc are better musicians....
Bro,Which is more boring:Listening to Rap verses with "words of wisdom" or reading through a poem book? Gonna learn to appreciate real hiphop from the heart.

Afam4eva: Maybe you mean American rap not real rap. This is Nigeria and the only thing that can take pre eminence is Nigerian rap. Thumbs up to Phyno, Illbliss, Olamide et al.
Nigerian rap?(wateva dat means).Besides Americans invented rap and if we wanna copy them,we need to get it right and do it right or else stick to genres which we invented that are "nigerian" so to speak eg.afro-beats,juju,fuji etc..The point is,there are actually MCs doin it right here(Nigeria) and dont get the recognition they deserve.

Jregz: lol………Why hating on them ? they got some good tunes....Future has "Honest","Real and True","I won"

Migos has changed hip-hop with their crazy flows, "The Migos Flow" or better Still Quavo's flow (Triplets),I mean Quavo's got a unique way of jumping on any track... i agree quavo isn't great with lyrics but Offset's got his back there...
I know y'all gon' say Guys from 3'6 Mafia invented the flow (or even Gucci mane) but none of them used it that long and it became irrelevant (just lil section of the songs but Migos,Hella No ,conquering the world since 2012... lol)......A whole lot of rappers having the Migos (quavo) flow on their sounds-drake,future, J.cole,Meek mill even kanye....
yea am saying guys like 3'6 mafia invented the flow and i dont really think drake, jcole shocked,or even meek has that typa migos flow ooo.I may be wrong sha.Maybe but i dont think so.

U are saying real hiphop have given way for normal hiphop even in the US? Dont be so sure.Take example in K.dot,he keeps it real am talkin real "real" and so he is king. And then jcole.Nobody puts them on sideline.Am sure if these same rappers were in nigeria nobody would take them serious. And...bruv u listed nas,mosdef,krs1 and even tupac shocked as been ignored? those artistes are pioneers, they enjoyed success one point or year in time and cant enjoy that forever u know.

Ever wondered why rap artistes like Modenine, kahli Abdu, poe, loose kaynon, pherowhuz etc are not been taking seriously in the industry(atleast by the majority of music listeners) today? Meanwhile rap/afro-pop acts like Ice-prince,olamide,phyno are seen as the face of rap music in nigeria today? Yea,your guess is as good as mine, real rap is slowly getting extinct in nigeria. But hey! It would be quite unfair to blame the artistes that adapted to change and placed music hustle first, which in-turn puts food on their table.Of course who wouldnt want to drive the latest cars and build the biggest mansion? I would.

Coming out as a rap/hiphop artiste in nigeria today, there are two things involved.Do you want to be a real rap artiste or a commercial rap artiste? If you want to be a real rap artiste, fine! But get ready to be taken seriously only by rap heads and your hommies. If u want to be a commercial rap artiste, the better, considering the fame and the financial gains.Doesnt sound fair right? I know. There are couple of reasons for the inbalance which i would explain to you.In business(in general) the consumer comes first right? Now,same applies to the nigerian music business, the music lovers and listeners also comes first. They(consumer) pratically holds the key to the artistes success...and ofcourse God.

Having said all these,it is important to analyse the music consumer, yea? I would save you the trouble. The average music listeners in nigeria today has grown to be quite lazy(no offense).Nobody wants to spend the whole day deciphering your punchlines, metaphors and similes when there are different problems facing the nigerian man/woman.A banging beat, catchy hook and lacklustre verses talking about how you are 'ballin',boasting about being the street king and most importantly addressing the feminine backside(a*s) while asking her to "shake it" would do the trick of getting you that commercial success, whereas, leaving the real hard workers on the sidelines with their so called "real hiphop" which is quality goods for the consumer.I am quite sadden when i see these real rap artistes spits their lives out in their songs and dont get the props, support and recognition they truly deserve, hence,my reason for writing this article.

The thought of Ice-prince(no beef intended) representing nigeria at the BET(which houses stars like Drake, kendrick lamar,Jcole etc) as the best rap artistes is quite laughable for a big country like nigeria which also houses quality artistes like modenine, khali Abdu, poe, boogey, jesse jagz etc who would give their american counterparts a run for their money(atleast to some extent). This,to me is quite deplorable.

Conclusively, I doff my hat to these real hiphop artistes who never gave in to the commercial stereotype-craze in the industry today. To me,it all boils down to LOVE and PASSION for the art(which is the real essence of listening and making music) and not the money. Thanks to these "real artistes" for keeping rapheads like me glued to nigerian music.
