A former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has lamented his treatment by his former party, the People’s Democratic Party despite being a major ‘stakeholder.’

Kalu said he gave the party its first N500m and supported the election of former President Olusegun Obasanjo with N100m, adding that if the PDP were a company, he owned 90 per cent of its share.
The ex-governor spoke on Monday in Washington DC, United States of America, during a dinner.

Kalu, who spoke on many issues, including his trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, fight against corruption in Nigeria, the economy, lauded judges in the US for their courage, urging Nigerian judges to emulate them.

He said the PDP hunted him for his ambition to run for the office of the president in 2007 and for opposing the third term agenda of Obasanjo.

He said, “All of you know that if the PDP were a company, I ought to own 90 per cent of it because in 1998, I gave the party its first N500m. By then, I wasn’t in government. I also gave the presidential candidate, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, over N100m in 1998.

“How many Nigerians would have done that? Yet the same government, the same PDP, took my bank, took my airline, took my oil licence to put me out of business entirely because I proposed that I must run for president in 2007; I also opposed the 3rd term, which they are denying today.”

A hospital with medical equipment worth about $2.15m which was seized from a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd.), has been handed over to the Nigerian Air Force, The PUNCH has learnt.

The hospital, St. Solomon Hospital, which is located on Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, is said to have state-of-the-art equipment including a Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine which costs well over $1m.
A reliable source at the EFCC told our correspondent that the EFCC could not manage the property and therefore decided to hand it over to the Nigerian Air Force medical unit.

He said, “The hospital has very expensive equipment including an MRI machine which is very rare. However, we could not manage the hospital so we handed it over to the air force pending the outcome of Amosu’s trial. It is assumed that the money used in buying the hospital was stolen from the air force.”

Other properties seized from Amosu included a house on Adeyemo Alakija Street, GRA Ikeja worth N250m; a duplex at House 11, Peace Court Estate, GRA Ikeja worth N110m; a N40m property located at NAF Harmony Estate, Asokoro base; a five-bedroomed house at Valley NAF Estate, Port Harcourt, worth N33m and a N95m house on Umaru Dikko Street, Jabi.

The Federal Government has also commenced moves to seize Amosu’s house at 50 Tenterden Grove, NW41TH, London worth about £2m.
Amosu as well as a former Chief of Accounts and Budgeting in NAF, Air Vice Marshal Jacob Adigun (retd.); and a former Director of Finance and Budget, Air Commodore Olugbenga Gbadebo (retd.), are currently standing trial before a Federal High Court for allegedly stealing N22.8bn from the coffers of the Nigerian Air Force between 2014 and 2015.

The commission has seized 33 properties they allegedly bought with stolen funds.
Documents made available to our correspondent showed that besides the hospital, the EFCC had seized plazas, schools, mansions, farms and a quarry from Amosun, Adigun and Gbadebo.

While almost N2.835bn cash has been recovered from Amosu alone, Gbadebo has returned N190m. Adigun’s wife, returned some money as well.
The document further stated that properties recovered from Adigun were worth N9.6bn.

Calculations by our correspondent showed that the cash and assets which the air force men might forfeit permanently, add up to about N15bn which is more than three quarters of what they allegedly stole.
They have, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has admitted that he is experiencing the worst run of his time at the club.
The 67-year-old who has been in charge for over 20 years, watched on as his side were beaten 3-1 by West Brom on Saturday. It was their fourth defeat in five league fixtures.


It is also the worst sequence of results since March 1995, when the Gunners were managed by Stewart Houston.
Wenger said: “We are in a unique bad patch that we haven’t experienced in 20 years. At the moment, we are losing game after game.
“We have a big fight and it will be difficult now. There’s no other way than fighting, and to do it until the last game of the season. If that’s not good enough, we will have to take the consequences.
“One day, if we don’t get into the top four, then people can mock us.”
Arsenal are in real danger of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League – a feat they have managed for 18 consecutive seasons.
Speaking about the game, Wenger said: “It was a typical Premier League game. One team has a lot of possession, the other one sits deep and counter attacks. We had 77 per cent of the ball but we didn’t create enough chances.
“Our record on defending set pieces has been good since the start of the season. Their delivery and movement was great.
“They blocked the keeper on the first and third goals. It’s not easy for the keeper to intervene in that kind of situation.

The wife of former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has bought Italian third-tier team Como, the club has announced. Akosua Puni Essien paid 237,000 euros ($332,500) at an auction for the club, according to Italian media, after they had been declared bankrupt last year.



"The new owner and her team wish to make both the first team and the youth team grow and become an integrated part of the city," a club statement read on Thursday (Friday AEDT).


"They will put their efforts into creating conditions to take the team back to Serie B and to develop the club's young talents to the best of their ability."

Puni Essien describes herself as a "businesswoman, consultant, philanthropist and mother of three lovely kids" on her Twitter feed.

In a statement , the Minister expressed happiness that a Nigerian is now in the inner caucus of CAF after many years.

Even though homsexuality is considered to be a crime in Nigeria, some people still engage in the practice that can get one 14 years imprisonment, according to the bill signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan.

In this report, Emmanuel Stephens, a graduate of Theatre Arts, University of Calabar, tells his story to Chijioke Iremeka. He talked about going to South Africa in search of greener pastures, but was forced into homosexuality by his late Master, Johnson, a gay, whom he served for four and quarter years.


“I was forced into the practice by my master, who was a drug dealer. He gave me all that I needed just to be his partner. As I speak, the man is dead though his death was not connected to the pervasion; he was killed in a drug-related incident in 2014. After his death, I was next in line, so I had to make haste to return to Nigeria."

He also talked about being forced into the fraternity, according reportedly
met a doctor when he came to Nigeria, for the second round of anus suture, he knew his time was up, following the doctor’s counseling.
“So, when I came back to Abuja, I continued the practice until I met a Christian doctor, who was supposed to suture my torn anus. The doctor had done it once and the second time, he had to counsel me on the dangers of homosexuality and advised me to quit, which I paid no heed to. I treated him with some level of contempt but on that very day, I had an issue with my system, and he gave me an option of repentance or death.

"When I was given such options, I chose life than to die and gave up the practice but it wasn’t easy at first because the doctor made me go through a psychologist and psychiatrist as a way of reforming me. After that, I had a new lease of life. I had been wearing adult pampers to prevent the feaces that regularly oozes from the anus because the anus has widened and cannot control defaecation.

“Really, Satan has a way of subjecting the ignorant people into perpetual bondage. I thought I was a ‘big boy,’ spending money at will but I was dying gradually. I don’t know how I got into such. Women didn’t appeal to me then. I played the female character.

"Many people wished to be like me but they didn’t know what I was going through. I didn’t get married when I was supposed because as a gay, I had nothing to do with women and I didn’t want any woman to discover that I wear pampers. My male partner was rich and did everything for me. We helped one another in this club and this is one of the ploys to recruit more people into the clique.
"Many people still indulge in it, but I advise all to quit for Christ’s sake. It took me some fortune and pain to get my mind back."

He also talked about getting his anus stitched for the third time;
“I had my anus sutured three times while I was practising homosexual. That was the price I had to pay for such ignorance. The first suture was in South Africa. There, it wasn’t a problem because people don’t give a damn but coming back to Nigeria was a clash of culture and my religion.”
Also, in another development, a popular trader with over 15 stalls in Ladipo Motor Parts Market in Mushin, Lagos State (name withheld) told his friend, Victor Ibezi, who wanted to be like him, a little secret of his riches – homosexualism and drug.
“I have been admiring the wealth of this man and he drives clean cars. We all sell motor parts but I didn’t know he has something else. One day, the man called me and said, ‘Victor, you want to be like me?’ I said ‘yes’. And he asked me to follow him. We entered a public toilet, he removed his pant and showed me blood stained pampers and said, ‘This is what we do for money. I blend homosexualism with drugs’.

“If you are interested, come, I will make you. When I saw and heard what he said, I opened my mouth agape and he laughed and said, ‘You don’t want to be like me. I’m not a cultist. I have showed you what I do.’ I was surprised because we all pursue the same trade. This is a very clean man that drives the latest model of G-Wagon. I didn’t accept the offer because I’m married and I didn’t know how to hide it from my wife.”

Confirming the increasing rate of this menace of homosexuality in Nigeria, which is on the geometric progression, a medical practitioner and a surgeon at Hannah Hospital, Lagos Island, Dr. (Mrs.) Chioma Udenwa, said she had personally sutured the anuses of more than 11 persons across the country. According to her, they are clean and wealth young men.

She noted that they have money to throw around and are not ready to negotiate price with doctors as they pay any amount they are asked to pay.

She said:
“These are young handsome men. Once they come to the hospital and meet a particular doctor and confide in him, they will never have any business with another person.
Any time they come and that particular doctor is not on seat, they will go back. They want somebody that will keep their secret and that is why they deal with a particular doctor at a time but they can go to another doctor on the matters that are not related to their gay life.

“I treat them because they pay well. But treating them is another disgusting thing because you would see anus of different perimeters.
To some, theirs have torn over three inches wide or more but when we suture it, it tightens a bit to hold back faeces but the person will still wear pampers."

Speaking on the effects of such anal sex, a medical pathologist, Dr. Wole Alabi, said, penile-anal leads to colon cancer as well as other infections, adding that the anus is dirty on its own and contains a lot of bacteria.

He said;
“The simple truth is that the human body was not designed to accommodate anal intercourse. The rectum is significantly different from the vagina, with regard to suitability for penetration by a joystick.

"The vagina has natural lubricants and is composed of a mucus membrane with a multi-layer stratified squamous epithelium that allows it to endure friction without damage and to resist the immunological actions caused by Fluid and sperm. “In contrast, the anus is a delicate mechanism of small muscles that comprise an exit-only passage. With repeated trauma, friction and stretching, the sphincter loses its tone and its ability to maintain a tight seal.

“Consequently, anal intercourse leads to leakage of faecal material that can easily become chronic. Moreover, the intestine has only a single layer of cells separating it from blood. Therefore, any organisms that are introduced into the rectum have a much easier time establishing a foothold for infection than they would in a vagina.

“The single layer tissue cannot withstand the friction associated with penile penetration, resulting in traumas that expose both participants to blood, organisms in feces, and a mixing of bodily fluids.

“Furthermore, Erupt has components that are immunosuppressive, designed to allow the sperm to evade the immune defenses of the female. The fragility of the anus and rectum, along with the immunosuppressive effect of Erupt, make anal-genital intercourse a most efficient manner of transmitting HIV and other infections.

“A list of diseases found with extraordinary frequency among male homosexual practitioners as a result of anal intercourse include viral hepatitis types B & C, anal cancer, human papilloma virus, isospora belli, microsporidia, chlamydia trachomatis, cryptosporidium, giardia lamblia, herpes simplex virus, Human immunodeficiency virus and gonorrhea.

“Gay men contract syphilis at 3 to 4 times the rate of heterosexuals. A study based upon statistics from 1986 through 1990 estimated that 20-year-old gay men had a 50% chance of becoming HIV positive by age 55. As of June 2001, nearly 64% of men with AIDS were men, who have had sex with men."

According to medical psychiatrist, Dr. Apu Chakraborty, homosexuality has damaging effects and people involved tend to experience more mental health problems than heterosexual people, saying that discrimination may contribute to the higher risk.
“These higher levels of psychiatric problems in homosexual people call for greater efforts at preventing the issues arising. Whether or not discrimination is the cause, mental health problems have previously been found to be higher among homosexual people. “There are a number of reasons gay people may be more likely to report psychological difficulties, which include difficulties growing up in a world orientated to heterosexual norms and values and the negative influence of social stigma against homosexuality,” he said

But a relationship counselor, and a trained psychologist, Dr. Candyfidel Okoye, said the major issue with gay community is that they operate in secrecy and do not know who to confide in, adding that they have the feeling that when they confide in you, the person will betray them as they find it difficult to live with the stigma. He noted that a number of them want to stop but do not know how to go about it.

“Having discussed with quite lot of them, I can say that the major reason for the increase in the practice is economic gains. These people are known to be helping members just like the lesbians. They have society and they all have their signs round time.
“They have common language and sighs. Most of them have big boys clubs that they attend. I have a number of them from Surulere, Festac and Okota. When you discuss with them, they will tell you what they go through. What they need to be freed from such mental slavery is our care, and listening ear as well as leaning shoulder.”

Dr. Chidi O. Ajaegbu, the former director of finance during the 2015 general election in Abia state, has decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC). Ajaegbu in a statement said he left because the structure of the party in the state lacked transparency, credible democracy and was not an all-inclusive government.

After formalising his membership at the ward level, he made it known while speaking at Umuojima-Ogbu, Osisioma local government area, Abia state.
'Essentially, I left PDP because my expectations were not met and as far as I am concerned, the aspirations of the Ngwa nation have not been met by the current administration and the reasons being given for the inability of the present government in meeting the expectations of the people are not tenable with me. I believe we could do a lot of things differently.

“The structure of the party in the state doesn’t allow for credible democracy, meaning that it is not all inclusive. If it is not all inclusive, are now delivering our electoral promises to the people of the state? So, we need to find an alternative towards actualizing the aspirations of the average Ngwa man and of course, our brothers up North (people of Old Bende).”'

Ajaegbu also urged his people to join APC, so that PDP will be shown the way out in 2019.
'I am going to reinforce the party and the essence of being in this party is to strengthen the opposition. To get APC in government in the state in 2019, we will start now to reflect on what PDP government is doing wrong and how to change them.'

Ajaegbu is a former President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Despite America's superpower status across the globe and the fact we can claim sex icons George Clooney and Kate Upton as our own, Americans overall are not as sexually satisfied as our foreign brothers and sisters. While some of us certainly hold progressive views about sex, we are still considered by and large a puritanical society, which may explain our mediocre levels of satisfaction. Conservatives and right-wing Christians have long fought hard against political reform to liberalize sex in the United States, from limiting reproductive rights and sex education to lobbying against gay marriage and sex work.

But what effect, if any, has this had on our sexual satisfaction?
Countries that are more socially liberal and have relaxed attitudes toward sex tend to have lower rates of STDs, teen pregnancies and abortions, and much more satisfying sex lives in general. On the other hand, just belonging to a socially repressive culture doesn’t always equate with satisfaction or how often populations get down—take Russia, where 80% of the population has sex at least once a week.

In any event, one thing remains certain. Americans are having a lot less sex than our friends overseas. Studies show people in other countries have up to 70 times more sex than we do. Indeed, Americans are only about 48 percent sexually satisfied. So how is sexual satisfaction measured? According to Durex global research, the drivers include: mutual love and respect between partners; freedom from stress; ability to orgasm; freedom from sexual dysfunction; good mental and physical health; and frequency of sex and pre-intimacy. Oh... and having an exciting sex life! A 2014 study revealed that socio-economic status also impacted levels of sexual satisfaction.
After sifting through all the wacky data and numerous studies out there, AlterNet has formulated a list of countries that consistently rate among the most sexually satisfied, in no particular order. It’s time to reignite our nation’s prowess... in the bedroom.


1. Switzerland: Whether it’s the progressive views on legal prostitution, the popularity of licensed brothels, liberal stance on pornography, or controversial sex education programs which begin as early as kindergarten, one thing is certain: Switzerland is consistently rated as one of the most sexually satisfied nations around the globe. A 2013 study revealed that 21 percent of Swiss nationals rate their sexual performance and their sex lives as “excellent." Thirty-two percent have even had sex in public places. Yet, somehow, amidst all that fornicating, the Swiss still manage to have one of the lowest teen birth rates in the world. In 2012, a United Nations survey revealed that the teen birth rate in the United States was almost 10 times higher than in Switzerland.



2. Spain:Sexually charged Spain, with its nude beaches and high social acceptance of gay marriage, recently topped the world’s “best male lover” list in a poll surveying 15,000 women globally about which nationality of men could best float their boat. Don’t believe those stats? Just ask the Spaniards themselves. A quarter of the population of Spain rates their sexual performance as excellent. Indeed, a recent study looking at 9,850 people in Spain revealed that 90 percent of Spanish men and women were sexually satisfied. Unsurprisingly, their levels of sexual satisfaction rose over time with a stable partner as opposed to casual encounters.


3. Italy:With an abundance of good wine and good food, it’s no wonder Italians rate high on the sexual satisfaction scale. According to Men’s Health, sexual seduction in Italy begins at the table as food and sex are inextricably linked. This may be the reason Italians are considered among the top lovers in the world. Italian women also seem pretty content with their love lives—and women who have two glasses of wine daily enjoy greater sexual satisfaction than those who didn’t drink. (Shiraz anyone?) This year, 64 percent of Italian men and women rated their sex lives as satisfying, with a third of Italians expecting sex to last more than 10 minutes.



4. Brazil:With curves to die for, infamous “Miss Bum” competitions annually, and men regarded as the world’s second best lovers (second to the Spaniards), Brazilians make the list as a highly sexually satisfied nation. While the stats vary on just how often Brazilians are banging—one report claims 82 percent of Brazilians have sex at least once a week; another says it’s 145 times on average a year (which equates to roughly three times a week)—it's obvious Brazilians enjoy their sex lives. These Latin lovers also tend to lose their virginity before people in almost any other nation. Naughty, naughty!


5. Greece:The reason the Greeks are so sexually satisfied is that they are less uptight about discussing their sexual desires. In fact, the Greeks have been talking about sex for centuries. In the fourth century BCE, Hippocrates spoke explicitly about the inevitability of sexual desire: “In the cases of women…when during intercourse the vagina is rubbed…an irritation is set up in the womb which produces pleasure and heat in the rest of the body.” Touché! Even today, Greeks commonly discuss sex at work, with friends, and most importantly, with their partners. Communication makes for a better sex life, period. Of course, the great weather, beautiful islands and healthy diet can’t hurt. Durex claims Greeks have the most sex in the world weekly (164 times on average a year). As for the Greeks themselves, they say they’re 51 percent sexually satisfied.


6. The Netherlands:The Netherlands has a reputation as being one of the most pro-sex countries in the world thanks to its famous red light district, abundance of nude beaches and open sex education policies. In addition, 64 percent of Dutch men and women are confident at asserting their needs and wants during sex and are more open about sex in general. Comparatively, only half of Americans say they're comfortable asserting their sexual desires. Remarkably, Holland has a teen birth rate of only 5.3 per 1,000 compared with 39.1 per 1,000 in the United States, as well as a much lower abortion and HIV rates, AlterNet reported. Twenty-two percent of the population rates the quality of their sex lives as excellent.


7. Mexico:Mexico has been previously rated as one of the “horniest countries” in the world and ranks as the second most sexually satisfied nation in the world with 63 percent of the country claiming a fulfilling sex life. Why? Perhaps it’s their candidness with regard to sex education. In 2008, Mexico City distributed over 700,000 sex-ed textbooks to the high schools that cover birth control, abortion and homosexuality. Or it might have something to do with the fact that sex work is decriminalized and regulated in half the country's states. (Unfortunately, decriminalization hasn’t curtailed Mexico’s human trafficking problem as Mexico still remains one of the leading hot spots for child sexual exploitation in the world.)


8. India:Despite the fact that Indians wait the longest to have sex for the first time (the average age to lose one’s virginity is 22 years old), the country has consistently been rated among the top satisfied nations in recent years. The secret to Indians' sexual bliss is a bit of a mystery, but there are a couple of theories.Men’s Health says Indians enjoy prolonging sexual pleasure—apparently the journey is more important than the destination. Think Tantric sex. Indian men are also more likely to spend time on the process of seduction and pre-intimacy compared to other countries. Then again, other studies reveal Indians are the quickest at performing in the bedroom: the average time spent on sexual intercourse is 13 minutes. Despite the variations, Indians rate their sex lives pretty high with 61 percent considered satisfied.


9. Australia:Outdoor shenanigans may be the key to sexual satisfaction in the land down under. Seventy-five percent of Australians claim to have had sex on the road, with vehicles proving to be quite the aphrodisiac. What’s more, Cosmo says 27 percent of Australian women “wouldn’t change a thing about their sex lives.” Aussie women are also quite likely to fantasize about having a party, with 20 percent listing this act as their favorite sexual fantasy as opposed to only four percent of Americans. As far as sexual partners go, Australians are more promiscuous than most. Twenty-five is the average number of sexual partners Aussie men have had, compared with 13 for their American counterparts.The women, on the other hand, fare more equal with 10 and 9 the average number of sexual partners for Australian and American women respectively.


10. Nigeria:According to Durex, Nigeria is rated the number-one sexually satisfied nation in the world with 67 percent of its population claiming sexual gratification. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Nigerians also take the longest time having sex, at 24 minutes per average session. The stats come as rather surprising given Nigeria’s conservative views on same-sex marriages, having recently banned these unions, and the prevalence of Islamic extremism, which dominates the country. Then again, Nigerian women have also been ranked the most unfaithful in the world with 62 percent having admitted cheating on a partner. I digress.


11. Germany:Despite Germany being marked as having the world’s “worst lovers” for being “too smelly” the country does rank highly as a sexually satisfied nation. Germany is home to some of the world’s most comprehensive sex-education programs and is known for itsprogressive political policies in relation to sex work. The sexual excitement element also seems to be in full swing. Thirty-two percent of Germans profess to having had a one-night stand and 30 percent have had sex in a public place. Like other Western European countries, Germans rate their own sexual performance as excellent. Germany fares better than the United States as far as sexually transmitted disease goes: it has one-sixth the HIV rate of the United States.


12. China:China is sexually satisfied? Well, not exactly. But no list would be complete without throwing in a wild card. Besides, while the People’s Republic is one of the most conservative and repressive societies in the world, behind closed doors its population is having more sex weekly than most other nations. Seventy-eight percent of the population in China is getting down to business at least once a week. The secret to sexual satisfaction in China? Technology, according to Men’s Health. The majority of Chinese men follow up after a successful date… with an email. Cyber sex anyone? What’s more, in the past 10 years, sex shop and online purchases have boomed in China. Most would be surprised to learn that China even has a SEXPO in Shanghai, and that 70 percent of the world’s intimacy gadgets are manufactured in China.

Edochie is considered one of Africa’s most talented actors, by both Movie Awards and Movie Magic’s Africa Magic Cable network.

Although a seasoned administrator and broadcaster, he came into prominence in the 1980s when he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all-time best selling novel, Things Fall Apart. Edochie descends from the Igbo people in Nigeria and is a Catholic.
