A Nigerian man has reportedly killed one of his relative during a brawl in South Africa. Confirming the incident, Nigeria Citizens Association South Africa, NICASA, revealed that the incident happened in Kempton Park on Monday February 10th, at 7:30 pm. According to NICASA, The two Nigerians are related, from Orlu Senatorial zone of Imo State.

The two Nigerians, one known as Batista and the other as Ide, got into fisticuffs apparently over disagreements on some money to be paid to some creditor. Batista, who was the senior of the two relatives hit the younger Ide with a brick on his head and pushed him to the ground. Ide fell to the ground hitting his medulla on the ground.

He was rushed to Arwyp Hospital, Kempton Park, South Africa, where he died shortly after he was admitted.

NICASA President, Ben Okoli, while briefing the public on the matter said; “We are concerned about this unnecessary and avoidable death.

It is disheartening that our citizens no longer have value for the sanctity of life nor the preferred conflict resolution mechanism available in our established associations, clubs and town unions.

Valentine, realising the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When his actions were discovered, Claudius killed him. Valentine was canonized by Pope Gelasius in 496 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. The flower-crowned skull of Saint Valentine is exhibited in the Basilica of Saint Maria in Cosmedin, Rome. Other relics are found at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland.

2. The Second Valentine was the bishop of Terni. He was said to have been martyred during the persecution under Emperor Aurelian in 273. He was buried on the Via Flaminia, but in a different location from Valentine of Rome. His relics are at the Basilica of Saint Valentine in Terni.

3. The Third Valentine according to the Catholic Encyclopedia was said to have a direct connection to February 14. He was said to have been martyred in Africa with a number of companions, but nothing more was known about him.
His head was preserved in the abbey of New Minster, Winchester and venerated. Amongst the Valentines, one significant attribute they all shared was they were all sympathetic, heroic and romantic

Suspected child trafficker, Ndukeabasi Okon, has revealed how they sell a male child for N400,000 and a female child for N300,000.

Nnudam also disclosed that a combined team of Itu Division and Anti-Child Theft equally intercepted an 18-seater bus with number plates YEN 709 XA, conveying six underage children.

The relationship between insecurity and poverty is fundamental, but the administration does not appear to have any idea on what will provide relief or solution. “It gives the Forum no pleasure to say that it had warned Nigerians that President Buhari lacked the will, the competence and commitment to lead it into a secure and prosperous future before the 2019 elections.

It is shocking that in spite of unprecedented consensus among Nigerians that the administration requires a new resolve, approach and leadership in the fight against the nation’s multiple security challenges, President Buhari appears either totally isolated or in deep denial over the result of his failures to secure Nigerians.


“With this type of mindset, it is difficult to see how President Buhari can accept the challenge to radically improve his handling of our security situation.

Nonetheless, we believe that Nigerians must continue to raise our voices and organise through all legitimate means to demand that the administration addresses major failings in his perception of our situation and his response to our demands for our rights to security.”

With the recent success in the Usoro Uso – an exhibition of Art and Orange September – a series of events organized to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Akwa Ibom by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has launched yet another event tagged Ukapisua. Ukap’isua, means “the turn of the year” or “the end of the year”.



WHY UKAPISUA

The Commissioner For Culture and Tourism, Rt Hon Victor Antai explained during a press briefing why the state needs “Ukapisua” event.

“As we all know, yuletide periods in Akwa Ibom State have hitherto been bereft of hyped activities. During this period we usually witness an outflow of human traffic into neighboring states as indigenes and fun seekers leave the state in their numbers to other parts of the country in search of entertainment and recreation.

It is in an attempt to remedy this and spice up the yuletide experience for the citizens of Akwa Ibom State, while effectively marketing our huge tourist potentials that the Ministry Of Culture and Tourism has decided to host “Ukap’isua”, an end of the year Christmas festival.

. Historically, our people planned and host festivities around this period. We hope to create during this same period, a unique experience that will not only create recreation and entertainment, but also market our huge tourism potentials.”

EVENTS LINED UP FOR UKAPISUA

The Commissioner explains the event lined up for the Xmas season

“Ukap’isua will commence with the opening of the festival village, located at the auspicious Ibom Unity Park, Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo. The festival village will host relaxation spots, shopping stalls and other recreational facilities. The main events in Ukap’isua will hold on 26th and 27th December, 2017



On 26th December, we will host a major street party/carnival tagged “Street Groove”. The star studded event will see five Bands parading along the carnival routes (University of Uyo mini stadium – Ikot ekpene road – Aka road – UdoUdoma Avenue – Unity Park). The bands will be led by an indigene. Each will be assigned an artist of repute. Talks with the likes of Wizkid, Tuface Idibia, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Phyno etc are ongoing.”

ABOUT THE IBENO BEACH PARTY



The end of the road event for Ukap’isua this year will be the Mega Beach Fiesta. Holding at the longest beach line in West Africa, the mega beach fiesta will feature beach soccer, volleyball, basketball and other interesting games.

It was mixed fortunes for Nigeria on Monday as the final shortlist of nominees for the various categories in the 2017 Aiteo/CAF Awards was released.

Super Eagles star, Victor Moses, was conspicuously missing as the nominees for the African Footballer of the Year Award were named.

Moses scaled the first hurdle when the list of nominees was reduced from 30 to 11; but he could not make it into the final shortlist.

Those in contention for the continent’s top prize are Sadio Mane of Senegal, Pierre Aubameyang of Gabon and Mohamed Salah who only recently won the BBC African Player of the Year, beating Nigeria’s Victor Moses and other rivals to the top prize.

The last time a Nigerian won the African Footballer of the Year Award was in 1999 through Kanu Nwankwo and the wait to end the jinx will continue again as the country’s sole hope has been dashed.

For the female category, Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala is still very much in contention as she looks to make it a hat trick of wins.

The China-based star will however see of the strong opposition that would be posed by the duo of Gabrielle Aboud from Cameroon and South Africa’s Chrestina Kgatlana.

In the coaches’ category, Super Eagles Technical Adviser Genort Rohr is still very much in contention alongside Hector Cuper (Egypt) and L’Hussein Amoutta (Wydad Casablanca).

Rohr qualified Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the first team in Africa to book a ticket to Russia.





For the team of the year, the Super Eagles and the Nigeria U-20 female, the Falconets are in for award.

The Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, 4 January 2018 in Accra, Ghana.
