Report has it that a Nigerian man, Abubakar Danraka, an Imam, who is also the Chief Pharmacist at the National Hospital, Abuja, has been arrested for allegedly drugging and r*ping a 12 year old boy.

The 42-year-old PhD holder is also the Special Assistant (Technical) to the Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Abuja.

According to National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP): “The resident of Spring Valley Estate, Abuja, was arrested after he had an anal s*xual intercourse with a 12 year old boy on the 21st of March, 2020.

The suspect allegedly gave the unsuspecting boy a glass of water laced with drugs, he then forcefully had intercourse with him and warned him not to disclose it to anybody. .

Upon reaching home, his mother noticed he was uneasy and queried him, which led to him opening up on what happened. She and the father rushed him to the National hospital, Abuja, where he was admitted.

The victim was discharged on Thursday 26th of March, 2020,. Meanwhile, the suspected denied committing the crime, however, the evidences gathered suggest he is guilty of the offence. .

Subsequent investigation at the home of the suspect also corroborated the narration of the victim especially with the colours of the furniture in the suspects’ sitting room as well as the setting of the place.”

Ndidi Nwosu, who was Nigeria’s Powerlifting Gold medalist at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, is dead.







Brilla FM reports that she died in Owerri Imo state on March 1, 2020, following complications arising from a lung infection.

The news was broken by former President of the Nigeria Powerlifting Federation, Ms Queen Uboh.

“Ndidi sustained an injury from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. She was a heavyweight powerlifter.

I had actually assisted by paying for two of the surgeries she had in Owerri but after the surgery, she was never the same again.

She had been off and on in the hospital and that was why she couldn’t take part in this last World Cup. Even before she died, she appeared to me in the dream.

She told me not to leave her family and that I was still her mummy despite not being the Powerlifting President anymore.

So when the husband called me to inform me of her passing, I knew already because she had appeared to me in the dream”

Queen Eziuche who is the wife of Dr. Uba Declan of Umuahia in Abia State, was a Batch ‘A’ Corps Member with a Call up Letter Number NYSC/ISU/2020 /0562.


In a condolence message to the family of the deceased and the NYSC Director General, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, said “the sudden exit of Mrs Queen Eziuche has deprived Akwa Ibom of the contributions she would have made in expanding the layers of our common humanity and also Service to her Father Land.”


The Governor who spoke through the State Chairman of NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, presented financial support to aide the family in the obsequies and prayed God to comfort the Ezeuches.

Mikel John Obi terminated his contract with the club hours ago, even though he still had a year on his contract.

THE management of National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has ordered the immediate close down of all orientation camps across the country over the fear of an imminent spread of novel coronavirus.





A source in Gombe State told NaijaTiktok Wednesday morning that the camp commandant for Gombe State orientation camp Commandant whose name was not given told corps members who are barely one week in the camp for the 2020 Batch A Stream 1 that the camp would close down on Wednesday.

Feelers from states like Sokoto, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta and Osun revealed that scheduled activities at the respective orientation camps have also been disrupted for fear of the spread of coronavirus.

Another serious merger or acquisition is imminent in the Nigerian banking sector as Zenith Bank Plc and First Bank are said to be eyeing smaller banks in the industry to build their asset and capital bases.


NaijaTiktok gathered from reliable sources within the industry that talks are currently ongoing between Zenith Bank and Union Bank, and a tentative arrangement may have been reached to commence due diligence.

While both banks are yet to confirm or deny the merger, the source revealed that talks have reached final stage, and that official statement may be issued any moment from now.

Recall that Nigeria’s oldest bank FirstBank was also on track to merge or acquire Polaris and Heritage Banks respectively. The bank issued a press release on the Nigerian stock exchange that did not deny the claims but also did not confirm if it is true.

Deals like these are typically not confirmed until the clearance is obtained from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

It is not immediately clear why both banks will be considering a merger, however, Union Bank owners Atlas Mara with a 49 per cent stake has been under pressure to exit their African holdings.

Last year (February), Atlas Mara co-founder Bob Diamond announced he was resigning his post as Chairman of the company. The company said it was looking at selling off banking assets in countries where it was not the dominant player.

Earlier in January, Union Bank sold its United Kingdom subsidiary to MBU Capital Limited. The London-based management investment firm acquired Union Bank UK after emerging as the most preferred bidder. According to the bank, “This sale is aligned with Union Bank’s strategy to geographically streamline its business operations to focus on growth opportunities in Nigeria.”

Union Bank also recently raised N20 billion in series 3&4 commercial paper after successfully raising N24.3 billion through the issuance of the Series 1 and 2 of its N100 billion commercial paper programme.

According to findings, a merger firmly solidifies Zenith Bank’s position as the largest bank by total assets after falling second to Access Bank with N7.1 trillion. It also gives Zenith Bank control over several juicy assets and right of ways owned by Union Bank from its legacy years.

In a notification that was sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the banking group recorded a 10.3 per cent growth in profit. The profit before tax as of December 31, 2019, was N20.35 billion as against the N18.45 billion that was achieved for the corresponding period for 2018.



Zenith Bank, on the other hand, reported a record profit after tax N208 billion out of a gross earning of N662 billion. Zenith Bank’s net assets of N941.8 billion dwarfs Union Bank’s net assets of N252 billion as of 2019.

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja granted full scholarship up to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree level to three secondary students who emerged winners at the year 2020 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award Competition.

The scholarship is in any science-related discipline of their choice at any university in the country.

Declaring open the 2020 Science, Technology and Innovation Expo with the theme “Enhancing The Growth Of A Diversified Economy Through Science And Technology,” the president commended the creativity and competitive spirit of the three young scientists who emerged tops in the competition tagged 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award (774 YONSPA).

The students are Masters Akintade Abdullahi Akanbi of Osun state from Osogbo Government High School Osogbo, who came first; the second positions went to Uwakwe Nelson Kamsiyochukwu of Anambra state from British Spring College Awka, and Aimofumhe Eshiobomhe Sigmus of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The president said Nigeria’s greatest resource is its human capital, assuring that his administration would continue to support human resource development.

”This is richly embodied in our youth who make up tens of millions of incredibly talented persons, constantly pushing and striving towards greatness. The future of Nigeria belongs to our youth.

A Nigerian man identified as Igwe Macdonald Sampson was allegedly found dead in his apartment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.


The body was discovered at Vista Apartment in Damansara Damai, at Sungai Buloh in Petaling District, Selangor in the late hours of Sunday, March 8.


According to a post by Hon. Prince David Mattson-Eugene, the Board chairman at National Association of Nigerian Students-NANS Tr Zone and Coordinator Nigerian Diaspora Youth Council, the deceased hailed from Orlu, Imo state.


His body has been deposited in a mortuary at Sungai Buloh for post mortem.


Mr Euggene urged anyone who knows him to contact his family.

This is important because taking medicine after a meal not only ensures that medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream but also prevents side effects, stomach irritation and ulcers.

Taking medication on an empty stomach (before food) means at least two hours after a meal and one hour before a meal. Some of the medications that are required to be taken on an empty stomach include Antihistamines, used to treat allergies, thyroid hormones and bisphosphonates, used for bone protection. They are taken on an empty stomach because taking them while eating prevents the stomach from absorbing the medication.

How Some Foods Affect Some Drugs

On the other hand, some medicines can work better or are affected not only by the presence or lack thereof of food in the stomach but also the type of food or drink.

In 1989, a research group discovered that grapefruit and having grapefruit juice interacts and interferes with some types of medication. The medication that was found to be affected include statins that lower cholesterol, an anti-hypertensive medication, medication for heart arrhythmia, organ-transplant rejection medicines and anti-anxiety medicine.

An enzyme found in grapefruits known as CYP3A4 is responsible for reducing the level of absorption of medicines. This is particularly important as CYP3A4 is involved in the bioactivation of almost 50 per cent of all drugs. Therefore, when grapefruit juice is consumed, the effectiveness of the drug is reduced and it also augments the side effects of the medication.

Patients who take blood-thinning medication (anticoagulant) like warfarin, phenprocoumon and acenocoumarol were advised to avoid dietary vitamin K that can be found in leafy greens as it counteracts the effects of their medication. However, a recent systematic review later found that the effects of such foods were only detected for high vitamin K intake.

The review suggests 118 grams per day of raw lettuce green leaf (equivalent to about one and a half cups of raw lettuce), 106 grams per day of cooked broccoli (equivalent to about one and a quarter cups of cooked broccoli), or 30 grams per day of cooked spinach (equivalent to about one-eighth of a quarter cup of cooked spinach) as a moderate amount in your diet.

Hence to ensure the absorption of your medication, it is best to maintain a consistent diet that is not filled with an excessive amount of leafy greens.



Alcohol

According to the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA), alcohol should be avoided if you are taking medication due to an increased risk of adverse effects. Consulting a doctor before you swallow your medicine with alcohol, drinking alcohol after taking medication and taking medication after having an alcoholic drink is important.

The FDA warns that alcohol taken with antihistamines causes drowsiness. Pain relieving medication like paracetamol can cause severe liver damage when mixed with three or more alcoholic drinks, regularly. Also, NSAIDs, (drugs like diclofenac; a component of most body pain-relieving drugs sold by pharmacies and drug hawkers) can cause stomach bleeding when frequently mixed with three or more alcoholic drinks.

In addition, do not take alcohol with a narcotic analgesic, asthma medication, statins, vasodilators-nitrates for treating angina, antibiotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, sleeping medication (sedatives) and bipolar disorder medication.



Dairy Products

Dairy products like milk, yoghurt, cheese or calcium-fortified juices contain calcium which affects certain antibiotics such as tetracycline and ciprofloxacin. Calcium and antibiotic interaction occur when calcium binds to antibiotics and prevents their absorption to fight an infection, Neal Patel from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society said.

He added, “Even if the milk affects just half of the drug, you’re only getting half the dose, which could mean the infection isn’t killed off by the end of the course.”

However, according to the FDA, it is safe to have a meal that contains the dairy products in them, especially in small quantities.

In saying this, the aim is that we improve the effectiveness and safety of our medication by thinking carefully about when we take them. The various foods mentioned do not imply that we completely eliminate them from our diets as they include foods that form a holistic, nutritional and balanced diet.

Rather, this offers a guide underpinned by experts advice that will help those taking the medications listed. Indeed, Dima Qato, a pharmacist and assistant professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago, who studied food and drug interaction, advised that “leaving at least two to four hours between the interacting food or juice and the medication is usually recommended.”

Tavershima Adongo, a medical consultant with the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism, said: “When we take medicines, they act on our bodies and our bodies act on them. These actions are determined by different factors within our bodies, among which is the type of food (by which we mean both solid food items and drinks) we eat around taking our medications.”

He said this is because food in the body is broken down into its chemical components, which goes ahead to interact with medicines (which are also chemical compounds in themselves); like most chemicals would.

“These interactions, therefore, can serve within the body to enhance behaviours that aid the action of the drug, delay its actions, complement its action or completely block its actions.

“When the medication label says to take with a meal or after a meal, for instance, this simply implies that fat in the food can either delay or enhance absorption of such a drug,” Mr Adongo said.

During the on week celebration which was held in Accra the family made the public understand the funeral would be held in the Ashanti region since he hails from that place. Few days after this announcement another venue was selected by the family.

The said they had a meeting with some individuals who convinced them on having the funeral in Accra since it would be best. Saying most friends who live in the capital would be able to come since its not far and also fans would be able to pay their last respect.

Now the brother of the late musician has said the funeral and burial has been moved back to the Ashanti region. According to him this was the final decision that has been made by the family.

He stated that most family members would not to able to travel all the way to Accra and even if thy did it would be waste of money so its bets having the funeral in the Ashanti region.

A youth corp member, Omaka Samuel Dike who has been serving in Kwara state has executed multiple laudable projects in his host community.






Dike reportedly used his allowance to commence 5 different community development service projects of providing portable drinking water and desks for schools among other commendable services to the small community.







A Twitter user identified as Kosoko Damilola shared the details via his handle as he revealed that the projects were completed within a space of five months.



Kosoko also called on the state government to acknowledge and appreciate Dike’s efforts. While sharing photos, he wrote:

Players of Lobi Stars FC narrowly escaped death when the team bus conveying them back to their base burst into flames on Monday night.

The team were on their way back to their Benue State base from Ilorin where they defeated Kwara United in a matchday 22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture on Sunday.

A video that has been widely shared on social media showed the bus on an unidentified stretch of road completely engulfed in flames with players and staff heard in the background thanking God for sparing their lives.




“Look at our car, look at Lobi Stars car catching fire, God thank you for saving us,” the voice behind the video who identified himself as Musa Tinajare exclaimed.

There have been no reports of any casualties at the time of filing this report and the club are yet to issue a statement on the matter.

The incident is the latest in a string of hazardous and life-threatening situations players in the domestic league face regularly while navigating between match venues.

Last November, several FC Ifeanyi Ubah players sustained severe injuries in an attack by armed robbers while making their way to Kano for a Matchday 6 encounter against Jigawa Golden Stars.

In March 2015, the BBC reported five players from Kano Pillars were wounded by gunmen on their way to Owerri for their opening game.

Lobi Stars who are coached by Gbenga Ogunbote are mounting a serious challenge for the title and occupy 3rd-place in the log with 39 points after 22 games.
