Celebrities / Man Beats His Son To Death Because Of N50 Only by Djpaparazy(m): 10:24am On Oct 20, 2016
The 10-year-old Adekoya Wariz, who was beaten to death by his father in Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun State, once told a neighbour, Baba Olaolu, that he usually stole N50 from his step-mother’s handbag because he needed it to buy gari and groundnut, as he was always denied food.

According to Olaolu, Wariz’s step-mother would tell his father that the money Wariz stole was N200 or more, resulting in constant beating, without getting a chance to tell his side of the story. Meanwhile, Wariz’s 37-year-old father, Rasaq Adekoya, has expressed regret, saying his intention was not to kill him. Adekoya, a Muslim cleric, told detectives at the homicide section of the Ogun State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, CIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, that his son, Wariz, slumped while he was beating him, over an allegation that he stole a phone at a social function.

He also accused his late son of always stealing his step-mother’s money. Vanguard gathered that Rasaq got married to a second wife, after separating from his first wife and mother of late Wariz. Neighbours alleged that late Wariz, a primary school pupil, had been subjected to battering, at the slightest provocation, from his father who always accused him of stealing his wife’s money. One of his neighbours, Bosede Ayodele said Rasaq Adekoya was once reported to security agents and was cautioned.

Another neighbours, who gave his name as Baba Olaolu, said: “We have warned Alfa (suspect) several times to desist from beating his son, but he would not listen. He accused him of always stealing his wife’s money. “At a point, I invited the boy to find out why he was always stealing. But he told me that he usually took the money to buy food any time he was hungry. “He also revealed that most times, he went to school on empty stomach and by the time he would return home, there would be no food. “He said he would be tempted to steal N50 from his step mother’s hand bag, which he used to buy gari and groundnut. He also claimed that at times, he would end up going to bed without food. “He also claimed that his step-mother usually lied against him by claiming that the amount stolen was N200 or above and that his father would not give him any chance to explain his side of the story. “When the battering became too much, we contacted his mother who lives in Lagos State, to come for her son. She kept promising to do so until this happened.”

‘I didn’t mean to kill him’ However during interrogation, the suspect said he did not intentionally kill his son. Explaining what happened, Adekoya said: “Wariz stole a phone at a party. When the news reached me, I was very bitter and at the same time ashamed that a child I gave birth to could disgrace me publicly by stealing other people’s things. “That was not the first time he had stolen. He usually stole money belonging to his step-mother, despite the fact that we did not starve him of food. When I called him to ask where he kept the stolen phone, he could not give any reason for stealing or revealed where the phone was. “Out of annoyance, I descended on him without knowing it would lead to his death.”

Politics / Brutality: Benue Governor Allegedly Orders Aides To Beat Up Lady In Church by Djpaparazy(m): 9:38am On Oct 20, 2016
A lady in Benue State has narrated how the governor of the state asked his security details to beat her up for daring to ask him to make life easy for the people.

According to Daily Post, Idoko narrated how she was battered to a pulp by security men attached to Ortom at the Mercy Land Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Makurdi, the state capital, on Sunday, October 16, 2016, because she approached him and begged that he made life easy for the poor.
Going by the report, the Governor was said to be one of the worshippers at the church and seizing the opportunity, Idoko had approached him and ‘implored him to have mercy on the poor people in the state, particularly civil servants whom she said her mother was one of.’
Reportedly irked by the effrontery of the lady, Ortom allegedly signaled to his security details to take her away from his presence.

Blessing Idoko says she was battered by Gov. Ortom’s security aides
The overzealous security me, on taking the lady away, were said to have descended on her, beating her to a pulp and inflicted serious injuries on her.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Terver Akase, has debunked the story as being untrue and the handiwork of detractors.
While admitting that the Governor actually worshiped in the church, Akase said he did not order anyone to beat the woman.
“This is another desperate but failed attempt to tarnish the good image of Governor Samuel Ortom.
I saw the Facebook post and went outside the church to investigate and I discovered that the incident did not take place in the entire time that the Governor and his entourage spent during the thanksgiving service.
I asked every security person on duty within the church premises including those who accompanied the Governor.
I also inquired from other people who were outside the church who might have seen the reported beating but no one could confirm the incident.
If anything took place at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mercyland Parish where Governor Ortom worshiped today as reported, then such an incident occurred some hours before the Governor arrived, in which case, he cannot be blamed.
Governor Ortom did not order the beating or harassment of anyone at the church,” Akase concluded.

But Idoko has insisted she was beaten up by Ortom’s security details and would be contacting her lawyers to file a suit claiming damages from the Chief Executive of her state.

How much have u hit from this WONDERBANK so far..?
Business / All You Need To Know About Wonderbank 'MMM' by Djpaparazy(m): 8:45am On Oct 20, 2016
According to Wikipedia, Ponzi’s original scheme was based on the arbitrage of international reply coupons for postage stamps; however, he soon diverted investors’ money to pay himself and the earlier investors.
His operation took in so much money, and it was the first to become known throughout the United States. Today, operators of Ponzi schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent.

Ponzi schemes occasionally begins as legitimate businesses, until the business fails to achieve the returns expected. The business becomes a Ponzi scheme if it then continues under fraudulent terms. Whatever the initial situation, the perpetuation of the high returns requires an ever-increasing flow of money from new investors to sustain the scheme.
Here comes the MMM era…
MMM started in 1989 as a Russian company and it rode on the financial waves in the 1990s. It was established by three men: Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi, and Olga Melnikova. The company derived its name from the first letters of their surnames.

From inception, the company focused on the importation of computers and office equipment, but the business failed woefully. Before long, the firm was prosecuted for tax evasion by Russian tax police, which ultimately led to the collapse of the business. The three owners tried to sell stocks to shore up the capital, but the effort failed. After awhile they teamed up again to form MMM-Invest, which was also not successful.
However, fortune smiled on them when MMM created its own version of Ponzi scheme in 1994. The company attracted money from many private investors. The business grew rapidly and it thrived on word of mouth. But most of the company’s success came from its extremely aggressive advertising campaign, which appealed to the general public by using “ordinary” characters that viewers could identify with.
On July 22, 1994, the police closed the offices of MMM for tax evasion. For a few days the company attempted to continue the scheme, but soon ceased operations. At that point, Invest-Consulting, one of the company’s subsidiaries, owed more than 50 billion rubles in taxes (equivalent of US $26 million), and MMM itself owed between 100 billion and 3 trillion rubles to the investors (from US$ 50 million to USD1.5 billion). In the wake of the crisis, 50 investors who lost their money committed suicide.
It is estimated that five to 40 million people lost up to $10 billion. The founders did not even know the exact figures!

How MMM works in Nigeria
MMM was launched in Nigeria this year, 2016, through a website with a business model claiming to pay a 30 per cent return monthly through a social financial network.
The firm states on its website: “MMM is not a bank, MMM does not collect your money, MMM is not an online business, HYIP, investment or MLM program. MMM is a community where people help each other.”
It states further: “MMM gives you a technical platform which helps millions of participants worldwide to connect those who need help to those who are ready to provide help for free.
Another website, www.gurus.lodge gives more insight on how MMM works: “You know about the popular word ‘contribution’ where people contribute money to one person and there’s a book where everyone’s name is written. When it gets to your turn, everybody’s money is given to you.
In MMM, we make pledges to donate our spare money to members who need the money. We do so by logging into our MMM account (Personal office) to make the pledge. We join the queue of people who made pledges after making the pledge.

“We only make pledges. We don’t gather our pledges to give to one person. In MMM there is no central account (No bank account where all our pledges are paid into). Members transfer money directly to each other.
The website further explained that if a member in the community who has already made a pledge to provide financial help to another member and has fulfilled his pledge falls in need of help, the member log into his MMM account (Personal Office) to say so.

The system connects him with the person in the queue for providing help. If it’s your turn on the queue to provide help, you log into your Personal Office, you will receive the details of the person to provide financial help to.
As soon as you pay the money directly into the bank account of the person that needs the financial help and that person acknowledges that he has received the money, the helper then qualifies to receive help at a later date.

MMM beneficiaries speak
Bankole is a banker and an avid investor in MMM. He says that other people’s doubts about MMM cannot stop him from retaining his membership of the social financial scheme, which he claims has empowered him to make wealth.

“What has the experience been like?” Bankole replied: “It has been fantastic! Of course, you have to be careful but it’s a great way to save money. Businesses like these require following the rules. The process is straightforward and transparent enough and doesn’t require you giving an organization the money but individuals. I joined through my best friend who’s been doing it for months now. Your money is in your pocket. It’s like ajo. You render help to someone in need of cash and request help to recover your money but the good part is with interest. That’s the only summary of what it’s about. I put in N200,000 and I got a bonus of N90,000.

Lawunmi, a female entrepreneur, revealed that she also got a good return on her investment: “I pledged N500,000 the last time and I got back N720,000 plus my bonus. Which bank can give that much? And you don’t even have to pay out the money until after about two weeks to the day you will get a return.”
She also explained how the bonuses that make your money increase come from: “The extra money comes from either the first timer bonuses given to you from MMM. It starts from US$20 and rises up to US$100 depending on what you pledge and your 30 per cent and the 10 per cent you get from other people signing in through you. A friend brought me into the scheme. Now, I bring people in and get bonuses for myself.”
Snapshot of past pyramid schemes.

The history of wonder banks in Nigeria could be traced to a Port Harcourt-based businessman, Umanah Umanah, who allegedly swindled countless number of unsuspecting Nigerians in the early ‘90s with his company, Resources Managers Limited, an unregistered financial outfit operating in Port Harcourt.
In those years of its operation, Umanah literally ran licensed commercial banks out of operation, as he lured depositors with a carefully crafted scheme which allowed anyone to withdraw his or her full deposit with 100 percent interest after four weeks. This became a huge attraction for the teeming depositors, who thronged commercial banks to withdraw their deposits and placed them in the wonder bank. Even some top shots in the public service were not left out, as some of them fell for the deal and also put their cash in the wonder bank.

When eventually the bubble burst, Umanah was arrested by the Police and arraigned for operating a bank without a licence by the Federal Government and in violation of the regulations set out by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Umanah was charged alongside his company with illegal banking operations in the country before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt. Both Umanah and his firm, Resources Managers Limited, however, pleaded not guilty.

Umanah applied for bail, which the court granted. The charges were subsequently amended by the prosecution and the proceedings in the matter suddenly got stuck. No one heard of Umanah again or his money or any proceedings relating to the charge preferred against him. Umanah and his wonder bank just disappeared into the thin air till date.

Similarly, the managing director of another alleged wonder bank in Enugu, Lets Partner With You Ltd, Patrick Nwokike, was equally arrested by the EFCC for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting members of public to the tune of N4billion. His arrest followed several petitions from across the country on the nefarious activities of his company. Nwokike was alleged to have solicited and obtained deposits from the general public for five years with a promise of mouth-watering interest in return.

Before the security operatives uncovered the unregistered company, reports said, some depositors had enjoyed a 10 per cent interest on their invested capital, but the largesse suddenly stopped and all efforts by others to have at least their initial investments returned became futile. Petitions from Nigerians alleged that Nwokike not only lived a very flamboyant lifestyle but acquired several personal assets and used their deposits for philanthropy.

Although Nwokike admitted in his statement that depositors’ funds with his company amounted to N4 billion, he claimed that his company was into a partnership business, which received money from interested partners who desired interest over a period of time.

According to CBN report, no less than 560,000 Nigerians were fleeced of N1 billion by wonder banks between 2009 and 2012. Yet, what appears to be a new wonder bank has commenced online operations, and probably without license from the appropriate regulatory authorities. One pointer to this is that it has no known address. Yet some Nigerians are already queuing up, online, and depositing money into certain bank accounts as directed by the organisation. When will the bubble burst? Only time will tell.

Romance / Spanish Billionaire Opens Barca Football Academy In Lagos by Djpaparazy(m): 11:17am On Oct 10, 2016
Bernat Villa, the Head coach of the Barcelona Football Academy in Lagos has outlined the school’s plans for Nigerian kids who registered within a week of the school opening.
The Spaniard, who was once in charge of the Barcelona academy in Spain, has his office at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, and is assisted by Nigeriancoaches.
“The aim of FCBESCOLA is to teach the kids the same way we teach in Barcelona using the same methodology and drills. For now we are having about 1,000 kids, out of which about 700 would eventually make it through to the school proper. I’m supported by some local coaches and I have explained to them our methodology; we are also teaching them our philosophy,” Villa said.
Villa added that Nigerian kids had awesome skills and could become future stars of the game, if properly groomed and guided.
“We’ve seen a lot of good players but the most important thing is for these players to be in good physical condition as their counterparts in Europe. If they can understand how we work and train, in few years, some of them can make it to top clubs in Europe and eventually their national team,” the coach stated.

On the difference between a Nigerian footballer and his European counterpart, Villa said, “The kids here (in Nigeria) are more of individual players, though they have good technical skills but they have problems technically and collectively.
“They are too individualistic, they always think they can take on their opponents and go alone with the ball and finish the ball by themselves. We have to make them realise they should play with the team.”

Education / A Canadian College That Teach Students How To Grow Pots Of Marijuanna by Djpaparazy(m): 7:37am On Oct 10, 2016
At College Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, a French-language college in New Brunswick, Canada, students will be able to take a course in marijuana cultivation and distribution beginning next year. But the school stresses it’s a serious business training course. “We’re looking at training qualified employees to meet the needs of industry, versus training students at large,” said education director Michael Doucet.

The program is intended to train students to work at local marijuana production businesses. Its launch also follows the New Brunswick government’s recent $3 million investment in a medical marijuana company that’s expected to create more than 200 new jobs in the area.

In Canada, medical marijuana is legal, and prime minister Justin Trudeau had said on the campaign trail that recreational marijuana may soon be allowed too. In fact, there is a much bigger market for the drug there than its southern neighbor. The US’s cannabis industry, despite a lack of widespread legalization, has grown to a not insignificant size, with even blue-chip companies like Microsoft getting in on the action.

Politics / MUST READ:- 10 Ways To Survive Nigeria’s Worst Recession In 29 Years by Djpaparazy(m): 11:15am On Oct 04, 2016
The tides are rapidly changing and in this unstable economy, everyone — regardless of social standing and class — must adapt to survive.
Adapting can be extremely challenging especially when the situation is an economic recession in a country with more problems than just the economy.
Here are some things to cut down on in order to make it out of this recession financially sane.

Generator usage

It’s bad enough the economy is crumbling faster than a cookie but how many Nigerians can recall a lenghty spell of uninterrupted power supply.
Our standby household generators have for years, been doing what the government cannot do for us.
Now that the situation is getting dire, generator usage should be restricted to specific hours and to take care of necessities.
Comfort can wait till recession is over and we are out of troubled waters.

Eating out

Anyone who actually cooks will know that restaurants serve overpriced, often unsatisfying food.
So instead of taking your hard earned money to pay for ‘fancy’ food, go to the market, buy raw food and head to the kitchen.
You’ll save so much money.

Driving walkable distances

The cost of fuel is higher than it has ever been in Nigeria’s history, so why not kill two birds with one stone while going for short errands.
Take a walk or go for a run while running your errand. Your body and pockets will thank you.

Bulk buying of groceries

Constant grocery shopping can be such a chore so we tend to buy in bulk.
However, a disadvantage of bulk buying is that some goods may expire or spoil before you get around to using them, hence cut your grocery shopping list down to necessities.
Get what you need and not what you think you will need.

New clothes and shoes

Your old clothes are perfectly fine!
Oh you think people have noticed you’ve had that shirt for a while? Frankly, it’s nobody’s business.
As long as your clothes are not obviously tattered, there is no use going cloth shopping every week to impress people and depress your bank account.

Hanging out

We all love spending quality time with friends and family but instead of going someplace where you’ll spend more than you budgeted for (more often than not), invite them to your house and plan activities everyone can participate in.
You’ll create a stronger bond and more lasting activities while saving money.

Vacations abroad

Also known as “the king of excesses”, vacationing abroad is officially a luxury at this point in time.
Why go and spend your hard earned ‘naira’ in a foreign country contributing to the growth of their economy while leaving yours in the backseat.
Stay at home!

DSTV subscription

You don’t need to pay for all the channels. It’s not a competition.
You hardly ever watch more than 15 of the channels on the premium package, so why the bother?
The smallest bouquet has news channels for the grown-ups and cartoons for the kids.

Water as opposed to juice and sodas

Some people think there is an award for living lavish. News flash: there isn’t.
Most of these processed drinks you desire to gulp down your throat with every meal are not even good for your health and they definitely cost more than water. Drink water, you’ll live longer.

Unnecessary phone calls

Restrict your airtime to calls with purpose (work, business).
There’s no need to ask your friend what he/she is eating or staying on a call for an hour discussing what nail polish color to wear to an event.
There are tons of instant messaging services. Embrace them.

Marriage may have forced Helen Odeba to quit her education but age hasn’t deterred her from taking a second stab at it.
At 61, Odeba has gone back to secondary school because she wants to “learn new things” and use her education for business.
In an interview with Punch, Odeba, who has nine children and seven grandchildren, says she’s performs better in Mathematics and English.
She said: “My eldest son and one of my female children studied at the Kaduna Polytechnic. They obtained diplomas there. One of my sons is a corps member. He studied at the Kogi State University. Another female child is currently at the Plateau State Polytechnic.

“I want to learn new things. I miss my years in primary school as a child when I learnt many things. I felt that I could learn more now that I have given birth to children. I am now able to concentrate on the future. This made me enrol at the Government Secondary School, Gonin Gora, Kaduna State. I started from the junior class.

“I like Mathematics and English. I always perform better in the two subjects than I do in others”, said the student of commercial class.
Odeba feels no shame in sharing a class with pupils as young as her grandchildren while also stating that she approaches her study with all seriousness in spite of the demands of the home front.

“I try to plan everything well. I cook and take care of the home on time. I also find time to read what I learn in school daily. There is no day I do not revise what I was taught in school.

“I want to open a shop after I finish with secondary school. I will know how to calculate money, talk to customers and give them their change.

A Cameroonian man, Sharkan Lucas, on Wednesday made shocking revelations on how he took to having sex with dead bodies due to constant rejection from ladies because he works as mortuary attendant. Lucas, an attendant at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, insisted he was mentally stable.

Speaking on Ghanaian TV station ADOM TV, the mortician claimed that sleeping with the dead women (an act called necrophilia) was part of the training he received when he was hired at the hospital in Ghana.

Lucas said, “I do it many many times. That is the training you have to do that, because once you have done that you will not be afraid of them again. If you want to bath the dead body, you will carry her legs up to wash her private part, that’s why we are taught to learn to sleep with the corpses. When I am inside the mortuary, I see some fresh girls and I satisfy myself.
“Being with dead bodies is normal for me because I am with them day and night. I feel like they are living whenever I am at work.

Although Winnie Mandela’s birthday is on September 26, her birthday dinner was held almost two weeks clear of the date.

The South African icon had her celebration at the swanky Mount Nelson hotel in Cape Town and, even though she’s always beaten the odds, the world was surprised by one thing: mam’ Winnie’s ability to overthrow even the effects of aging.

Does being a fearless woman leader mean you can put a stop to the impact time and sip from the fountain of youth?

In several photos emerging from the party, Winnie looked at least 20 years younger than her age.

Winnie Mandela is known for her powerful speeches and her role in the revolution in South Africa against the apartheid that was in the country at that time.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, says President Muhammadu Buhari spent less than £50,000 (N20.5m) on the treatment of an ear infection in the United Kingdom.

Shehu said this in a Facebook post on Sunday night while responding to an allegation by Prof. Farooq Kperogi that Buhari spent £6m during his treatment in June.

The President’s spokesman said Buhari’s government believed in accountability and curbing waste.

Shehu said the Presidency had approved over £50,000 for the President’s treatment but Buhari rejected it.

He said, “The disclosure on Prof. Farooq Kperogi’s wall that President Muhammadu Buhari’s ear treatment in the United Kingdom cost a whopping £6m must have shocked many of the respected scholar’s followers.

“I’m prepared to share documents with Farooq, one of the brightest ever produced from the Bayero University Kano that the whole treatment, including a follow-up visit by a specialist to Nigeria didn’t cost £50,000.

“For the records, the administration advanced a higher sum, but the President’s doctor returned the balance to the treasury.

“Indeed, it’s a New Day, and President Buhari’s change mantra is real. Let no one confuse my fellow countrymen and women.”

Shehu made an indirect jibe at Dame Patience Jonathan – wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan – who claimed that the $15m found in some company accounts was for her medical treatment.

He added that President Buhari would have rejected the bill if the doctor had charged him £6m.

He added, “The story reads like an incredible tale by moonlight that belongs to a different era, which fortunately is now history. That’s when a fortunate lady saved $15m for medical treatment!

“But was it possible that the account of this balanced journalism teacher was hacked? I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

“Given the austere President we have, Muhammadu Buhari would not have approved this amount if he was shown a £6m bill. I won’t be surprised if the President may have asked if the fat bill was for the purchase of a brand new pair of ears!”

Politics / This Is Patience Jonathan’s N10bn Hotel Where A Royal Suite Costs N367k a Night by Djpaparazy(m): 8:53am On Sep 19, 2016
While the imposing Aridolf still retains its grandeur, the air of presidential security and protected serenity has since disappeared, as only private guards and plainclothes security personnel are seen around the area. A first time visitor or guest would still marvel at the sprawling architectural masterpiece spread across four buildings with a
fountain strategically positioned for aesthetic effect. The fountain is encased with bulbs of different colours shining from beneath it, producing a colourful shade of glamour and extravagance.
One of the least expensive rooms in the hotel. Inside the compound, tarred with interlocking tiles all round, is a spacious car park that can conveniently accommodate hundreds of vehicles. Other facilities offered at the property include a nightclub, meeting facilities and a shared lounge.
Established to mainly cater for Nigeria’s elite, the Aridolf offers indoor pools, a spa and wellness centre as well as free WiFi access for visitors and guests. Its opulence is further showcased in the hotel’s reception area, with expensive artworks, gold- plated furniture and imposing landscapes on display. There is also a chandelier providing artificial lights from the Plaster of Paris ceiling and walls.

The hotel’s lobby has a strong, sweet-smelling fragrance which gives the impression that it has a style, taste and class exclusively preserved for the rich and famous.
The Aridolf boasts of about 200 rooms including suites. The price of the rooms ranges from N15, 700 to N367, 500.

According to the hotel’s room rates, a standard room costs N15,700; deluxe room costs N31, 500; a junior suite is N56, 700 and the executive room is N75, 600. The Presidential suite goes for N315, 000 while the price of the Royal suite is N367, 500. All the costs are inclusive of value-added tax charges.
Most of the categories of rooms are fully furnished with air conditioners, fridges, TV sets with satellite channels, good toilet systems, cold and hot water facilities, WIFI, among others. The only significant difference between the classes of rooms is
essentially the bed and space. They all have similar features.

The hotel serves local and intercontinental dishes with prices from N2, 000 upwards.
At one of their bars, christened Paradise Bar, different variety of drinks such as beer, wine, whiskey, gin, fruit juice, among others, are served. Our correspondent learnt that the management had to reduce prices of the drinks because of the economic recession in the country. The price of beer now goes for between N500 and N600 against their initial N800 and N1, 000 price tags.

A guest can enjoy a view of the city’s skyline from almost all the rooms. In addition, the hotel has a beverage centre, business centre with full Internet access, fitness centre, kitchenette, restaurants, wheelchair access and airport transportation.
One of the workers in the hotel, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the former first lady was involved in the running of Aridolf, despite the fact that the hotel has a general manager, as well as managers and supervisors.

The source noted Mrs. Jonathan was always available in the hotel to provide effective supervision.
“When she came here last week, she ensured that she put everything in place before she left,” the source said, adding that while the former first lady also owns another hotel in Otuoke, her husband’s country home, she frequents Aridolf more.

The source said, “Aridolf is a hotel after the former first lady’s heart. She is the super supervisor. At times, she holds meetings with the employees. At such meetings, she usually teaches us about business relations, how to woo and retain customers,
among other things.”

Our correspondent also gathered that despite the price of the rooms, the hotel enjoys high patronage from guests, who are mostly politicians, oil and gas workers, businessmen, foreigners and some middle income earners.
A royal suite which cost almost N400, 000 per night is often occupied, said another employee, who noted with pride that “Aridolf has everything one can think of. It is a place for recreation, wellness and all what one desires in a hotel.” Despite its opulence, some parts of the hotel seem to have suffered some deterioration due to the topography of Bayelsa State.

At the balcony in the Paradise Bar, our correspondent noticed a leaky roof after a downpour during the week. The rain alsomflooded some area of the bar, soaking some portions of the synthetic rugs decorating the place.
A guest blamed the development on poor architectural and structural designs of the building. The guest, who did not give his name, said the building wasmsuffering from an assemblage of expensive fittings but lacked proper finishing.

He said, “The chairs and other furniture at the lobby are very expensive. They were imported. But those who supplied some of the materials cheated the owner. Some of the materials are only shinning but they are not durable. That is why you see that some parts of the hotel are deteriorating.
“The saving grace for the building is the tiles used to design the hotel structure. The tiles are the ones covering the defects in the building. Remove the tiles and the building will have serious problems. It is suffering from architectural and structural
defects.” building will have serious problems. It is suffering from architectural and structural defects.”

Politics / See How Much Money Buhari, VP, Ministers, Lawmakers, Others Earn Yearly by Djpaparazy(m): 8:36am On Sep 19, 2016
Twelve months after the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission pledged to give the nation reviewed salaries and allowances for political office holders, lawmakers and key government officials still cart home about N9.18bn annually in salaries and allowances.

Investigation show that while RMAFC had completed work on the review of the emoluments of political office holders about November 2015, the new emoluments have not seen the light of the day due to the politics involved in the process.

As a result, key political office holders still earn the full packages they earned before the decision to reduce the earnings of political and judicial office holders.

The annualised salary and allowances of the president is N14,058,820, while that of the vice-president is N12,126,290.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had announced their decision to take only 50 per cent of the salary and allowances approved for them, meaning that they take home N7,029,410 and N6,063,145 respectively.

However, most of the allowances and entitlements of the President and Vice-President are not monetised but fully provided by the state.

Apart from salary, the regular allowances that are monetised for the President are only hardship allowance, N1,757,350.50 per annum; and consistency allowance, N8,786,762.50 per annum.

For the Vice-President, the hardship allowance is N1,515,786.25 per annum, while the consistency allowance is N7, 578,931.25 per annum.

The irregular allowances for the President are the severance allowance – 300 per cent of the annual salary or N10,544,115 – and leave allowance – 10 per cent of the annual salary or N351,470.50.

The irregular allowances of the Vice-President are the severance allowance – 300 per cent of the annual salary or N9, 094,717.50 – and leave allowance – 10 per cent of the annual salary or N303,157.25.

Other allowances that the President and the Vice-President are supposed to enjoy which are not provided in monetary terms include motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance, special assistants, and personal assistants.

Others are domestic staff, entertainment, utilities, security and newspapers/periodical allowances.

These irregular allowances include accommodation, furniture, duty tour, estacode, medical, and severance/gratuity.

For a senator, the salary and allowances add up to N20,669,280 per annum. Those of a member of the House of Representatives add up to N17,271,347.75.

There are 109 senators and 360 representatives. With the exception of the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his deputy whose allowances are provided by the state, lawmakers get a total of N8,397,965,454.5.

For a minister, the salary and allowances add up to N14,705,164 while those of presidential aide add up to N14,085,843.75. The Head of Service and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation are on the same salaries and allowances.

There are 36 ministers and 15 presidential aides. Their annual emoluments add up to N770,083,888.25.

RMAFC had in June 2015 set in motion the process for the downward review of the existing salaries and allowances of political, public and judicial office holders when it set up a committee chaired by Mr. Abdullahi Inde.

At the inauguration, returning Chairman of RMAFC, Mr. Elias Mbam, had urged the committee to be conscious of the prevailing economic situation and the need to reduce cost of governance so as to free more funds for development.

The current remuneration of public office holders is guided by the Remuneration Act of 2008. A review became imperative following dwindling government revenues occasioned by falling prices in the international oil market.

However, investigation showed that when Mbam left the commission following the completion of his first tenure in November 2015, the acting Chairman of RMAFC, Mr. Umar Gana, made a number of attempts to present the new packages to President Buhari but failed.

“The acting chairman could not get the green light from the Villa to present the remuneration package to the President,” an authoritative source told our correspondent.

“That is why the new salary structure has been stalled. The law requires that the President must get the recommendation from RMAFC who would table it before the Federal Executive Council for ratification. Then, it is presented to the National Assembly.”

The current allowances of lawmakers are in categories. Some are tagged regular allowances while others are tagged irregular allowances.

Regular allowances are those that are paid on monthly basis along with the monthly salaries while irregular allowances are paid at other frequencies ranging from annual to once in four years.

There are also other allowances not included in this calculation that are paid not at any fixed periods but as many times as they occur in the year.

The allowances are calculated as percentages of the annual salaries. While some are higher than the annual salaries; others are lower.

Basically, both senators and Reps are paid the same percentages of their salaries as allowances except in constituency allowance where senators are paid 250 per cent while Reps are 100 per cent.

Vehicle maintenance and fuelling alliance is 75 per cent; domestic staff, 75 per cent; entertainment, 30 per cent; utilities, 30 per cent; wardrobe, 25 per cent; newspapers, 15 per cent; house maintenance, five per cent; and personal assistants, 25 per cent.

The irregular allowances include housing allowance, 200 per cent of their annual salaries; furniture allowance, 300 per cent; recess allowance, 10 per cent and severance allowance, 300 per cent.

Housing allowance is paid once a year. Furniture allowance is paid once in four years and recess allowance is paid when the lawmakers are on recess and they go on recess four times in a year. Severance allowance is at the end of the four-year tenure.

There are other allowances that the lawmakers are not paid directly but provided and paid for by the government. These are special assistants, security and legislative aides. What this means is that those engaged in these capacities are paid directly by the government as the allowances cannot be claimed by political office holders. These allowances apply to senators and Reps.

Medical expenses are also borne by the government when they have need for the services.

The lawmakers are also entitled to tour duty allowance, estacode (when they travel). For a senator, the tour duty allowance is N37, 000 per night; the estacode is $950 per night.

For a member of the House of Representatives, the tour duty allowance is N35, 000 per night; while estacode is $900 per night.

Ministers and presidential aides also enjoy similar allowances.

Experts, however, are not worried by the official earnings of political office holders but by the unofficial ones. Lawmakers, for instance, are said to get some quarterly payment

Celebrities / Feyenoord 1-0 Manchester United: 3 Flops And 3 Stars by Djpaparazy(m): 1:43pm On Sep 16, 2016

Jose Mourinho bemoaned the Europa League prior to Manchester United’s opening match against Feyenoord - and on the evidence of their performances this evening, his players don’t think much of the competition either.

They had the chance to give their fans something to smile about following last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City but wasted the opportunity.
Mourinho made three changes just after the hour-mark - Memphis Depay, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ashley Young coming on for the ineffective trio Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata - but the game ended 1-0 to the home side following Tonny Vilhena’s late winner.

But which players let United down - and did any of the visiting players actually perform well?
Scroll down to see our list of the three stars and flops from this evening’s encounter at De Kuip.

Flops
Marcos Rojo

Caught out of position on too many occasions to count, it’s genuinely surprising that Marcos Rojo wasn’t offloaded by Jose Mourinho in the summer.
The Argentina international, deputising for Luke Shaw in that game, was trending on Twitter at half-time but for all the wrong reasons. The second 45 minutes weren’t any better.

Tonight’s dismal performance by Rojo will probably give Mourinho a sleepless night when he gets home.

Juan Mata

What happened to the Juan Mata who used to take games by the scruff of the neck and produce goals and assists out of nothing?
The Spaniard was once widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League, but that’s no longer the case.

In order to salvage his United career, Mata needs to start showing the form that made him a household name in the first place.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba needs to start imposing himself more for Manchester United.
As the world’s most expensive player, the Frenchman knows he can ill-afford to go under the radar for his new employers - but that’s precisely what’s happening, match after match.

Pogba flattered to deceive during the opening 45 minutes and although he improved after the break, it’s only natural that people will expect much more given his astronomical price tag.

Stars

Okay, so picking three stars from tonight’s match wasn’t easy…

Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera injects energy into United’s midfield whenever he’s on the pitch and tonight was no different.
The Spaniard was one of the few United players who didn’t let himself down tonight.

Chris Smalling

Following Daley Blind’s performance against City at the weekend, United fans will be pleased to see Chris Smalling back in business.
The England international, despite the scoreline, can’t be blamed for tonight’s defeat.

Eric Bailly

And neither can Eric Bailly.
Expect to see the 22-year-old and Smalling in central defence again for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Watford.

Who was the biggest disappointment in the game? Have your say by leaving a comment below. - See more at: http://www.hitgistng..com.ng/2016/09/feyenoord-1-0-manchester-united-3-flops.html#sthash.t7u0TRgG.dpuf
