The sand filling exercise to reclaim more land currently going on around Ilubirin is largely responsible for the worst flooding east of that point. The flow of the lagoon has been constricted right there.

The reason Fashola is tolerating this crazy activity is because it is owned by his godfather, Bola Tinubu and the Oba of Lagos.

The idea that people CAN actually dump refuse into the drains is a FAILING of the ACN in terms of the design of the drains.

No sane city in high rainfall areas is building new drains within the last 5 years that are OPEN. It is amazing that for all the lip-service paid by ACN to "world-class" this or "international standard" that, they are still leaving the drains open by design.

I've always said that that's what the Northern Establishment has been eating from Nigeria this whole time. This is what Oshiomole supported during his whole tenure as NLC president. He was in league with the enemies of his people.

A lot of Southerners really don't get that the subsidy needs to go for them to be truly free. I hope they don't realise it when it's too late.

Unfortunately, if you put all sentiments aside you see that Aganga is somewhat responsible for the state of the economy. Important facts you need to look at include the fact that in 2005, Nigeria parted with our "hard-earned" 12 billion dollars to exit the Paris Club of debtors. Fast-forward to the  end 1st quarter 2011- we are back to 6 billion dollars of foreign debt.

Secondly, the $500 million euro-bonds put out sometime ago by Aganga is currently at a record low because of problems in the euro zone that show no signs of slowing down- so that has not been very successful so far.

The only minor positive so far is the foreign reserve at $33 billion, which was about $30 billion when OBJ left office- so not much growth there too. Lets not even talk about domestic debt (N4.5 trillion). This man is a classic investment banker, they are over-optimistic with their projections , take too much risks, and almost always cook up figures to please. So much debt means high recurrent expenditure, low capital expenditure to ever get to the common man in form of schools, hospitals, roads etc.

I am surprised he's getting screened again- hopefully he'll do a better job with his next portfolio. I ain't an economist but I know this guy does not know much about the complex nature of the Nigerian economy.

The rest of your post seems ok, but the bolded puts a serious question mark on at least your memory. By the time Obasanjo was leaving on May 29 2007, our foreign reserve was at over $62 billion. What happened under Shamusideen Usman and Olusegun Aganga as well as Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is something we need to put behind us as quickly as we can. I personally cannot believe that Aganga is still considered fit for public office in this country, considering his breath-taking display of stupidity so far. At least we can thank God that Usman is gone though. On Sanusi, let us pray that Jonathan finds the courage to curtail his excesses until he leaves next year.

How then did he get nominated? That is a question GEJ will have to answer, considering that he has now violated Section 147(3) of the Constitution. That means he can now be impeached by a Northern dominated house, if not today, at any time they choose.

It was interesting to observe the close interaction between a PDP-nominated minister and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, who is also of Edo origin, but representing Lagos Central at the Senate, before and after Aganga's screening.

Immediately after he was screened, Aganga headed to Lagos, where he was met at the airport by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who took him to see the Oba of Lagos, to tidy up the indigeneship issue and therefore dig Aganga further into a hole of lies and perjury from which he will never be able to get out.

Instead of working for the interest of Nigerians as Finance Minister, this man was busy lining his pocket, as well as those of his cronies in the Lagos State PDP, Setonji Koshoedo and Olatunji Shelle. With regard to Shelle, it was good company, since he was forced to resign from the Nigerian Navy for cable theft. Shelle and Koshoedo collected contracts through Aganga from a couple of ministries, ostensibly to help them fund the PDP in Lagos State. The party never saw the money.

Funny enough, just last week, Shelle, himself from Republic of Benin, was arguing that Aganga, not being a Lagosian, could not represent Lagos State as a minister. It was just a shakedown. As soon as Aganga paid up, they organised a meeting at the party secretariat in Ikeja on Monday, where they endorsed Aganga's nomination.

Aganga should be watched very closely. He is not trustworthy, and his usurpation of the rights of Lagosians by hiding his state of origin says he is capable of anything, just to get what he wants. He is desperate to become a minister, and we hope GEJ wakes up from his slumber quickly enough to get rid of this charlatan, who tried to kill Nigeria by creating a budget just to pay salaries. And then start borrowing to build infrastructure.

There is no tribalism in this post. Why has it been moved to ethnic racial or sectarian politics? Aganga is stealing what belongs to a state other than his own. This is a fact. The Constitution does say that Ministers must be appointed, one from each state and they must be indigenes of those states they are appointed from. Aganga is not an indigene of Lagos, by birth or naturalisation.

These are facts. Nothing racist about it. There are Ibos that are indigenes of Lagos and now participate in Eyo Festival.
