High voltage from the solar panel to the controller is preferable as there's reduction of power loss (Isquare R). But like you suggested, I will make more research...thanks earthrealm: @dmerciful, pls re read what i wrote slowly, i never mentioned pwm. i said if ur hv a 24v for example, connecting ur array to feed the cc at 48v and at 96v or 134v, that u will hv the best efficiency at 48v. u shud google what i wrote first, b4 challenging it.,,flipping tru the manual of any mppt charge controller will show you this commmon info i posted here is true!. we all learn everyday |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 11:56pm On May 01, 2016 |
Mppt is more efficient at higher voltages relative to the battery voltage than pwm solar charger. Get ur facts right! earthrealm: @netotse...it may be 1500w, not sure...just know its 1600 or 1500w........besides u can still hook up 1600w even if the manual says 1500w, cos u cant hv 100% efficiiency...real life efficiencies/harvest is 50 to 85% on the average.......so if u hv 1500w...u may be getting 1200w on the average...n 1500w on rare occasions n not upto 1hr sef.. an mppt charge control is more efficient at voltages closer to its its default voltage.....thus for a 24v system...the cc will be more efficient at 48v than 72v or 96v....... thats why i said the 3 string 2 panel setup may b more efficient.......cant rememeber the exact figures but i think its 88% at 72v and 90% for 48v..........u can d.load the epsolar manual online to xcheck
yup thicker cable is more expensive...and also more difficult to work with, the thickest/most common oem/weather proof solar cable i hv seen is 10awg=8mm abi 6mm sef........n max current it can handle is 20amps x 2 or so....so if u want thicker cables...u may hv to use piping to shield the cable from the elements, if u dont see oem weatherprrof 16mm or 10mm cables...shud u decide to go the 3string route |

If development cannot even get to the grassroots under the much smaller geographical area of the states, how then do we trust it will with the large regions?
How does Regionalism address our biggest problem as a nation, which is the hydra headed monster called corruption?
I'm of the opinion that the fact that the regional system seemed to have worked a little before, was a s a result of the people at the helm, not the system.

No need to argue with you....people who have been using it can testify. Electroweb: Huh! Which good system batteries stays 4-6yrs? Abeg dont derail people. The only way they will even last up to three yrs is if u always use abt 5% of inverter capacity. Imagine spending a little over a million for an inverter-solar arrangement and u r using it to charge ur phone because u want the expensive batteries to last for 6 yrs. or u have a 1.5kva inverter and u only use one 20watts energy saving bulb. Does that make economic sense? For intending users of inverter, weigh the pros and cons well well before embarking on it. |

Use deep cycle valve regulated batteries. The are not necessarily dry cell but the acid is in a spongy mesh and as such maintenance free as d hydrogen gas given off during charging is recombined due to its sealed nature however there is gradual electrolyte loss due d valve...else it would explode during charging or overcharging bigtt76: Dry cell cos it's maintenance free and usually sealed. |

But if you have ordinary inverter u just buy a charge controller of about 30-40k...shikena osabuohein: Yes bros. Science/Technology › Re: How my inverter is saving me in this poor power supply and no-fuel situation by DMerciful(op): 4:35pm On Apr 25, 2016 |
You are right. Let me give the house a free design If your battery is two 200AH deep cycle batteries, u need a current supply of 30A for 7hrs to charge fully. In addition if your load is 300w from the inverter, u need 300/24=12.5A. So in total, u need 42.5A from the solar panels to power your load and charge your batteries at the same time. Now since you need 42.5A @ 24V in total, your solar panels should be 24*42.5*f=1020f, where f is the factor for the varying angle of the sun's beam. All in all, you need about 1500w solar panel bank. The 480w difference is to compensate for the sun's angle as a solar panel of 200w is actually 200w when the sun is at 90 degrees to d panel. In order words its the power of the panel is rated power p*cos€ where € is sun's angle bigtt76: I disagree with you.
Its best to get the Solar Panels supply your house with its primary power supply during the day time while at the same time, charge your battery bank for later use during the night time when the Sun has set.
Getting your primary power supply from the batteries will only end up reducing the efficiency of the batteries faster than it was meant to last.
Inverters are designed to 'invert' the input current from its original state to a usable state depending of course on the appliances you are powering. in our discourse here, it converts DC to AC so connecting your Solar panels to the inverter gives you AC output which you can conveniently use to run your house needs during the day and the excess charge your batteries for use later in the evening. |

Be careful of cheap products....rather seek quality.'I have used both inverter types and can tell you mercury has a poor charging system. oyb: in my opinion, your best value for money is a mercury inverter. 2.5kva is 25,000. buy direct from coscharis and you get a 1 year warranty.
its modified sine wave, which means some fans may hum when running . none of the ones in my house do. i am also recommending it because 25k is far easier to shrug off than 150k.
after you buy your mopower inverter the english will start. oh, it needs a stabilizer; oh you cannot use it with a generator sized less than so and so

A good system batteries stays averagely 4-6yrs. D bigger the system, d more d longevity Electroweb: Well, inverters have minimum voltage at which they cut off power supply, so its not possible to drain it to nought. Assuming If you have an inverter of the strenght of a truck but use it to carry load of one Laptop then its a waste of money and space. The average life span of the batteries is 2yrs. The storage capacity of the batteries drop over time, just like ur phone, rechargeable torch, car batteries e.t.c they are all the same. |

That mercury inverter is good but has poor charging that will ruin your batteries in 6 months. Do not mislead people with substandard inverter cos of cost that they'll surely regret and I know cos I have used that mercury inverter and I still have it somewhere in my house. Had to buy this mopower when my batteries start discharging too quickly and my batteries were restored oyb: the lies these inverter hustlers tell . .
1) you require power to charge the inverter - at least 16 hours for 8 hours supply.
the inverter is a supplement to power supply. it is NOT a replacement
2) the batteries will last at most 2 years. and that is not guaranteed since there seems to be a repackaged battery racket, or maybe its just the usual low quality for the nigerian market
3) 90% of the inverters sold are piece-of-sheet that fail in under 6 months. after this the looong story with the seller starts.
my advice is to go for a mercury 2.5kva inverter, (modified sine wave) direct from coscharis - it is 22-25K . it is RUGGED. nepa fluctuation, overload, all of that, it will work with those. DO NOT BUY THE PURE SINE WAVE inverter. batteries [coscharis] are 50k
all these sukam , mopower , luminous etc are overpriced
due to bad advice, i bought luminous batteries December last year at 56k . imagine how pissed i was when i went to coscharis and found their batteries were 48k [at the time] .
a 2.5kva inverter does not need more than 2 12v batteries [preferably 200ah]
you wont even need a rack. just put the batteries on the foam packaging, put the inverter on the batteries and you're good to go. you can opt for rewiring, but you need a COMPETENT ELECTRICIAN if you want to go that route.
a lot of the inverter sellers will cut corners and install the cheapest wiring you can find. i know because i recommended one to a friend some years back. i was so ashamed when i went visiting and saw the rubbish job the guy had done. cables looking as if they would catch fire any minute.
anyway, like i said, go to coscharis VI. they also have a warehouse in computer village.
anyone who tells you you need less than 8 hours to fully charge standard inverter batteries is lying. |

Solar panels are now. Cheap such that electricity bills for 2 years can pay the cost of installation... the rest is profit parlondy007:
I will suggest you first take a comprehensive load analysis with your critical load point in view, after which the inverter sizing is determined. Secondly, you also know how long you intend to use the system and at what time per day. Thirdly, you find out how often you get the national grid power supply per day to determine your battery how your battery is charged. This is where the option of including a solar PV comes in. Cos if you have 5-6 hours of national grid supply per day you may not need a solar PV, that will be a waste of resources. This also depends on your power consumption, I mean the loads running at the same time, power management while using this system is one thing that must be considered. Solar powered inverter system is designed by the individuals requirements. You only regret when a careful study is not done before starting the project... |
