imperiouxx: Then you heard him right and in such situation you don't ask him to repeat himself. Defer and write the SAT.
Ok Bro but what if the school decide to send me a cover letter for the exemption of tofel and sat, can I still go to the embassy before the school start date?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by dnpasion(m): 9:25am On Dec 04, 2012
Just thinking that was what he asked because I can't hear him pronouncing the "T" in SAT but yet I was thinking he is asking if I wrote SAT. And when I said I was exempted, he raises his eyebrow and then I know something isn't right.
imperiouxx: It may be that or just to assess how you're responding to him/her. Well, it depends on what led to that. In interviews, you ask/suggest what is meant whenever you are not clear with the question....No crime doing that.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by dnpasion(m): 9:08am On Dec 04, 2012
imperiouxx: Once beaten, twice shy. You shouldn't make the same mistake three times. Perfect your assignment before turning it in and see how it goes from there.
Thanks Bro but can I ask you this question which has been bothering my mind since I got up from bed. If Vo ask that did I wrote an essay" is he referring to the essary I wrote to the school during the admission process because I'm now recollecting that was what he asked me while I was thinking he asking about SAT. Please let me know if Vo can ask if I write an essay or not? Thanks
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by dnpasion(m): 7:35am On Dec 04, 2012
@seedord247,mr swagger,talk2D and imperiouxx thanks for all the words of courage and also for the advice given. Well now I know I need more backups just like "imperiouxx" said and have contacted the school already to send me a cover letter stating that they exempt me from TOEFL and SAT. I hope they will surely do that and I think that would help next time? Though I'm thinking of registering for SAT but my fear is that I won't meet up with the spring resumption because my school spring start date is 8th Jan.
If possible I get a cover letter from school early that they are exempting me from TOEFL and SAT, do you think I can still go back to the embassy this year for the third time and won't this be a red flag? Have make up my mind that I will be going to Abuja next time. Please more contribution is highly welcome and your response is very important to me. Thanks!

Well I will suggest you answer yes and explain that you presented your waec statement of result (if that was what you took along with you in 2003) but the vo wasn't convince enough because you didn't present the original cert. Just a thought.

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by dnpasion(m): 12:26am On Nov 17, 2012
I'm really impressed with your response. I'm grateful
Yvete: O my! I'm really saddened to read this. You've been so active on here. Take a shot at it again maybe December or January. Whilst, there are no right or wrong answers, I think you should give your answers in lay man's terms next time. Since private schools are expensive, make your Dad look like a BIG BOSS!

You MAY rephrase your Dad's business this way --> My Dad is an International wholesale distributor for mattresses across West Africa grin and also a major distributor of building materials and home improvement needs. (Hype him, he's your Dad.) cheesy

Create a better response to your long-term goals after graduation. Instead of a blank answer like "I want to work for the Nigerian Government". I made this sample, ---> "With the technical skills from a degree in Comp Sci, I hope to get a job in Military Intelligence with the Nigerian Defense ministry or Air-Force and manage enlisted personnel in GIS/IT/Data processing.... A career there is rewarding". #PRAY

Congrats Bro!
kaytee07: Thanks peeps. Interview was yesterday @ the Lagos Embassy with a black American guy. Here's how it went: Can't even remember if I greeted him.
VO: Please pass your documents
Me: Passed my docs (Passport, I-20, Admission letter, etc)
VO: What course are you going to study?
Me: Business administration and Management
VO: Why did you choose Bleep University?
Me: Spoke about the courses and how each of those courses can help achieve my overall career objective here in Nigeria
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I said "three" and mentioned them
VO: Why did you choose this school over the two?
Me: Re-iterated the answers I gave to the first question
VO: Did you write GMAT?
Me: Yes, I passed my score sheet (he looked through and passed it back)
VO: Who's paying for your education?
Me: My mum
VO: What does she do?
Me: I explained
VO: What do you do presently?
Me: I work with a company (mentioned the name) as an associate in the xyz unit
All the while, he was typing. When he finished, he gave me a white collection form and said "Your visa has been approved, pick it up @ ikeja on..." (didn't hear the guy after that)
That was the end of the interview. The only supporting document he requested was my GMAT score report. All glory to God

Name on i-20 is Ana Vangrade which is international admission specialist, so i wonder where he came about westfall but the fact is that westfall is Chair, Computational Sciences Department and Associate Professor of Computer Sciences in the school but his name wasn't listed on my i-20. Well i will have to pick another date and i hope i'm going to get it next time i show up there. Many thanks to you all and wishing others who are yet to go for their interview success!
jimtosam: Very painful but try and get another date in Lagos. Lagos/Abuja, the most important thing is God's favor.
First of all, how did the VO knew Westfall. May be this name is on your I-20/admission letter. It's important to study all the docs taking to embassy. know ur fees breakdown, d int'l studies coordinator, etc.
Standardized exams r important. If not for admission but for embassy. I think this has been reiterated several times. Though, I can't say this was d reason why you are denied cos the VO didn't ask for it.

imperiouxx: Nervousness might be because it was your first time but believe me it doesn't really matter, so far you ain't too nervous to let loose answers from your mouth. My first time was the best....98% confident, answering sharply and precisely but when God says NO! no matter how intelligent we're, the answer will always be NO. But when we got His Yes! even the dumb will walk into that embassy and get a yes from any VO. Wish you got His yes next time you show up there.
Well said bro and i believe it too that i'm going to get His YES when next i show up there because i do know that sometimes God want to test our faith. Pls do i need to fill another application?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by dnpasion(m): 4:51pm On Nov 13, 2012
The name the Vo asked wasn't on my i-20 but i guess they have their ways of checking schools databases and each department. the name of my i-20 is that of the international admission specialist of the school.
ronald2g1: @dn passion, no 1, review ur answer to why dis skul, sayin its a technology based classroom is nt relevant to need to study or need to d skul, discuss its rankin, importnt faculty staff members, no 2) am sorry to say dis buh I'm sure d name d vo mentiond is prob d one on ur i20 n for failin dat u proved to nt care much abt d skul n much more abt visa. So meanin u failed 2 consecutive first set of questions and that's probably why she didn't even bother to wanna see d statemnt. So all these meanin u still hv a second chance cos u can change dese ones, if u go back dere, prepare well and no 2 pls b bold n confident, its nt an exam sittin, its. 3mins interview. ronald2g1: @dnpassion I feel ur pain and am I'm sorry u were denied buh I will advise u reapply and schedule anoda date since u don't need to pay extra fees. Abuja too was hot today as a source told me many was denied o. Wish myself others success soon
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by dnpasion(m):
It was really a sad day for me because i got Denied today at Lagos Us Embassy and here is how my interview went. Firstly i was bit nervous when answering the questions.

Vo. Why this school?
Me. I chose this uni becos 99% of their classrooms are technology-enabled and the school offers intelligence cognate which combine the key elements of computer science with the skills needed for work in the security and business sector.
Vo. How many schools did you applied to?
Me. 3 and listed but only xyz admitted me.
Vo. Who is Jerry westfall?
Me. Thought he said Jerry Falwel so I said he is the founder of the school because Jerry Falwel is the founder and chancelor of the school not knowing he was referring to Westfall who happens to be one of the prof. In the computer sc. Department.
Vo. Why this major?
Me. I chose this major because almost every major challenge facing society is turning to computing for a solution.
Vo.What will you do after the completion of your study?
Me. Come back for my nysc after that I wish to work for the nigeria government.
Vo. Who is sponsoring you?
Me. My dad
Vo. What does he do?
Me. Business
Vo. Type of business?
Me. He is a major distributors of mouka and yinka oba foam, he is also into sales of building materials.
Vo. How much does it have in bank for your program?
Me. Told him the total on the bank statement but he didn't bother to look at the bank statement.
He typed for some minutes hoping that he is going to give me the green paper but unfortunately he gave me a white paper and said sorry can't grant you a visa.

On the white paper given to me, it was stated there and I quote that: After considering the information you supplied through your visa application, your responses to questions asked durong interview and information available in our databases, the consular officer who conducted your interview determined that you have not demonstrated that you qualify for a U.S. Nonimmingrant Visa.
This may have been because you either did not demonstrate strong ties outside the united states or you were unable to demonstrate that your intended activities would be consistent with the type of visa for which you applied.

God will grant you favor. Neatly package all your documents. Get to the interview venue on time. Pls, don't be nervous. Don't be fast while talking so that the VO will have no reason of asking u to repeat urself. And also, listen carefully too, so that you won't ask the VO to repeat him/herself. Don't bother to form, most of the VO understand our accent. Respect the VO in your talk mannerism. you can list all u got in ur docs/pkg so that my "learned colleagues" can analyse.
