Gumsu, you are probably set for life courtesy of your dad’s loot. You won the lottery big! |
Why can’t the government throw immigration officials asking for money into prisons? If they aren’t being paid well, then payment packages need to be addressed. You don’t go immigration entries of other countries and they ask for money. Gov should stamp it out for good! |
AK481:Read it well. He didn’t say it’s new. He admitted it’s localised technology but needs expansion nationally into the grid. |
Liar. You and your boy governor are in cohort to spite Ganduje. |
I think 6,000MW by August is feasible and he should be pushing for 10000 MW by December. We currently at installed capacity of 14,0000. We have about 19 plants actively supplying power to the grid. These active plants sometimes do 50 % below capacity. Egbin plant hovers around 700MW currently but has an installed capacity of 1, 300 MW. Omotosho plant has an installed capacity of about 340 MW but currently supplies 80-100 to the grid. If the issue of debt and gas have been resolved with Gencos, then minister should push them to produce more. Also, TCN on their website proudly say they can evacuate 70000 MW, so 6000 MW by August is not pipe’s dream. P.S Minister few weeks ago said Zengeru hydro now supplies to the grid. According to TCN on its website, that’s not accurate. |
lebienconnu:Can I ask a question? If another governor comes after this one, and wants a different Emir, won’t it create a mess? Let the sleeping dog lie, no need to keep changing. U only further gonna denigrate the throne. There are so many ways to fight Ganduje, removing the disposed Emir isn’t one of it. |
When is the Lagos Red rail be functionally ready for operations? It was commissioned a while back. |
No more Nigerian athletes disgracing us in sports. There should be huge fines to deter any Nigerian athletes found doping. Also, the Nigerian Gov should set up laboratories in country that can test qualifiers before they compete. If you don’t have the expertise or infrastructure in the country, how can you catch cheats? We are due a super advanced laboratory in Nigeria for things like drug doping, forensics, toxicology, DNA samples, rape kits, etc. We don’t have to always rely on abroad labs for analysis. |
Kewtt:USA offer its less privileged citizens food stamps, is that also tokenism? UK do food banks. Government is multifaceted; they can empower people to be productive while also catering to the vulnerable. All public schools in Lagos should get free healthy meals, primary school being the bare minimum. |
ppogba:Why are food stuffs still getting impounded by customs? Are you telling me I can bring any foodstuff legally into the country? |
Gov should open border and allow importers bring in food. Food is expensive because our farmers aren’t producing enough. You have to address issues of insecurity, storage, diesel prices, roads, etc but they will start bearing fruits in the medium to long term. In the interim, customs should allow food to come in to bridge production gap. Gov should stop going to shops and tell them what prices to sell. Once goods are plentiful, they would be forced to lower prices. Only time gov can intervene is if market sellers are colluding to fix prices. If yam sellers are meeting underground to fix prices for example, gov can charge them to court with evidence. |
Olachase:I don’t believe in price control. Gov should open the borders and allow people to bring in food. It’s the local farmers that would go beg for border to be closed when prices fall to crazy levels. Only time government can intervene is if there is collusion. |
The measures the CBN have taken seem robust and long term. They are not hasty and shortsighted decisions. 1) They cleared backlog, signalling to investors that they can repatriate their money should they decide to do so. 2) They stopped naira speculation and standardised BDC. BDCs get supply of dollars, so no need to panic. 3) They increased interest rate, so FDI came in huge waves. 4)They stopped banks from using dollars as collateral. 5) They tapped into the remittance market, so dollars sent to Nigeria now comes through official channels, not all but a good chunk. 6) President Tinubu is also growing the nations revenue. Oil production is going up, they finding creative ways to bring taxes in. If revenue continues to grow, local refineries start working at full capacity and electricity improves, Naira could appreciate significantly. We would require fewer dollars to import fuel. Also, another key index is if inflation comes down and how fast. Diesel price is a major determinant. If it’s being pegged like people are saying, parallel rate and official rate won’t converge. Official rate at present is even higher than Parallel rate. |
See as Nigerian police look corpulent. 🤣 Good gesture government is doing to boost morale and appreciate brave sacrifices. |
The military is ramping up pressure on these oil thieves causing environmental degradation. If this administration can severely reduce oil theft and ramp up production to 2 to 2.2 barrels, would be huge!! Enough to sell to local refineries and export!! We will also boost revenue to fund critical infrastructure. |
I think either of any ID should be okay, instead of all Nigerians on NIN. 1) Nigerian passport 2)NIN 3) PVC I should be able to use any of this to open bank account, vote, register my sim, etc. They all have bio data info that can be synchronised and be used to access centralised database for verification. Also foreigners travelling to Nigeria on Nigerian issued visas can simply use the unique visa numbers on their visas to register their SIM cards with ease. You would ensure simplicity and save people of stress. I like the government’s effort in encouraging all Nigerians to have a form of identify, as cash payments to vulnerable groups can be facilitated but ID duplicities have their own risks. Also, we should have a mandatory and centralised birth and death certificates, and new borns should be issued NIN before their first birthdays. All expectant mothers should mandatorily register with midwives or clinics. No more age falsification for good! |
AqualinaXYZ:Tinubu has been doing politics since early 90s. Just because you can organise and have capacity to build structures doesn’t make you a godfather. |
More competition can only benefit Nigerian consumers, hence offering Nigerians a cheaper deal. Nigerians should be priority and not any airline. Air Peace has some niches over other airline 1) It’s a direct flight, so actual competitors in that regard are British Airways and Virgin. I would pay a little extra for a direct flight to London then go via Rwanda or Morocco. My baggage could be lost, there could be delays, immigration officers in connecting countries can be unfriendly, etc. 2) They serve Nigerian food and that would resonate with some Nigerians with Nigerian palates. 3) Gatwick Airport is a finer alternative than Heathrow for some passengers. They should stay in market, charge reasonable prices, diversify airport destinations to Manchester, Birmingham and even Scotland. We welcome Emirates as they restart! It’s not always about price Mr Omokri |
Sanction isn’t enough Mr Adelabu. Withdraw their licences and pass it to more competent firms. In fact, minister should have companies in background, ( mix of local and foreign companies) with good pedigree that can take over from failing Discos. Bring in foreign power distribution companies and let them show the locals how it’s done. Why would you be charging huge fees and can’t use part of the money to improve your infrastructure? They are doing it because there is no consequence. Severely punish failures and you will see success emerge!! |
Under President Tinubu, rich will get richer, don’t care whether u Kanuri, Igbo, Yoruba, Delta, Hausa. If you already a billionaire, u will get richer. Some of these reforms will certainly benefit Nigerians aptly placed, and they will cash in massively. |
shortgun:That route will cut journey times by a lot, so Lagos to Delta might be 2-3 hours. Also, don’t forget there will be rail btw it. If they do high speed rail, travelling 150-200km/ hour, you can do Lagos to Calabar in 3.5/4 hours. You can even do Lagos to Port Harcourt in 3 hours. You would have people working in Lagos Mon-Friday and living in Port Harcourt as their homes on weekends. We have to think big as a country if we want to compete. We need to bring people and goods together at quick speed. |
swagifted:I agree. If there isn’t a vandalism act by National Assembly, then they should pass the law. It should be made to punish vandals across Nigeria with prison sentence. |
farouk2much:With hydro dams, you can always increase capacity by adding more turbines. 700 MW is the start. I’m sure as time goes by, it can be ramped up. When Mainstream Energy took over Kainji and Jabba dam, they added more MW to the generating capacity. I’m sure over time, they will do likewise to this new dam. This additional 700 should push our generating capacity at full max to about 14,000 MW. Full max is if all the power generating plants decide to generate at full capacity. Debt payment according to the minister starts in April, so no excuses and Gencos should ramp up production. TCN I’m sure is working to modernise it’s infrastructure and make it more robust to transmit power. |
franudi:Why can’t government do both same time? You lots just want to abuse government for abusing sake! Military are currently flushing bandits out as we speak, and government is allowing import to stabilise prices. That to me is serious government. Also, once you flush bandits out and farmers are secure, they plant and harvest, which takes time! |
Kukutenla:Discos have monopoly but their licences can be withdrawn for non performance. This means they will be kept in check and their licences given to another competent firm. |
Trojan8:Because banks would have to pass it to customers, don’t u agree? I’m not illiterate. The fiscal system is still in its infancy, monetary tool of selling bonds and increasing interest rate are being deployed. Asking banks for recapitalisation which CBN knows they will pass to customers is another subtle way of mopping up liquidity. |
Blazetrailer:Banks would have to get the money somewhere? They would charge customers more interest on loans, pay less rates on savings, etc. Would u agree? |
43Ronin:Daft?? Wrong choice of word!! CBN probably using it to mop off Naira off the system. |
benjaminlawson:He promised Solar lights and CCTV. He also promised rails to prevent people jumping into the lagoon. He had to visit at night to see if the lights are working. |
He is going nowhere as long as the APC house isn’t divided. He will be there for at least 4 years. |
Tellmeastory:I don’t trust Air Peace’s safety record and won’t let either me or my family board it. If you want to board it, it’s fine! Nothing to do with inferior. We still have a long way when it comes to safety. |
This makes sense. Safety and quality will be guaranteed!! Also, we need new carriers to break the British/ Virgin Airline duopoly. They now charging crazy prices!! |
