themall: ROTF. Is that not the question you should have asked yourself before OVER-INTERPRETING how to follow Jesus? Now you are waking up using two sides of your mouth to talk! You have to answer the question, since you're the sole arbiter of the criteria by which following Jesus is determined. So, John the Beloved did not meet the criteria, neither did Peter. Did they walk in Jesus' footstep? Yes or No? |

RosaConsidine: I'm not liking where this is going. Imagine a household where things are not going according to the plan of the head of the family. Wouldn't you think whatever happens is either part of the head of the family's plans or the person has no power to stop it? And we're talking about human families where some things would definitely be beyond the head of the family's powers to control. How much more God who has absolute power and knowledge and fore-knowledge.
I feel if anything's happening, then it's part of God's plan because the only alternative is that he's powerless to stop it. "Allowing" is permission that is not expressly expressed. Yes, that's the whole point! Sin exists today, but it was never GOD's plan. GOD called everything He created "perfect." Even Satan was once a covering cherub. GOD didn't create him "satan" and GOD never wished Him to become Satan. However, He has allowed sin reign so man can see the effects of disobeying GOD. |

themall: Mmmmmhhh. According to you, Jesus asked you to keep the Sabbath because of what he did in Luke 4:6! I have some postulations: 1. You are either a Moslem or has Islamic background 2. When you attend a marriage always convert water in to wine 3. Whenever Christians visit you, always wash their legs 4. You must not marry until you die (& maybe when you die, ascend to heaven) 5. As a christian, never have any property to your name 6. As soon as you are baptized you must never have any other work from morning till evening, only preach in churches and mosques, while you are fed by your disciples.
ANYONE NOT DOING ALL THIS, IS NOT FOLLOWING JESUS FOOTSTEP Are you done listing? You could have asked me to speak Jesus' language, become a carpenter like He was, in fact have my own disciples. Still, you have no argument here. Jesus taught us to keep the commandments, and the Sabbath is one of the commandments. So, why are you no obeying Jesus? |

achorladey: DoctorAlien okay, I just love the spirit behind God's laws and once we're able to discern that we appreciate the giver of such laws. Finally, I believe laws can be changed, abolished or refined but as for principles they are forever. Perhaps the principles behind the sabathical law was to keep us in check not to keep storing treasure here on earth as if the wealth can add a day to our lives or to give reverential treatment to day e.t.c. Thanks!!!!! That is a very good observation from you. Notice also that the Sabbath is the only commandment that points to the true GOD and tells us why we must worship Him: Who is the true GOD? The Lord GOD (Exod. 20:10) Why should we worship Him? Because He created every thing, including us (Exod. 20:11) So, forgetting the Sabbath will be to forget our Creator. |

achorladey: DoctorAlien...... Kudos to you for the explanation so far, but am curious about that 'secular work' of a thing. The work of the doctors and nurses, THE NEMA crew, fire fighter and the rest. Despite all these set might not want to work on the sabbath day, If they are called upon on such a day, are they not getting paid for such work? Very nice and intelligent question. GOD would not forbid a doctor to render medical help to a sick person on the Sabbath day, nor would He forbid a nurse to do same. He would also not forbid rescuing someone in danger on the Sabbath, nor would He would forbid rescuing someone from a fire accident on the Sabbath. In fact, to fail to render help on the Sabbath would be to break the Sabbath. Notice however that I used the word "help". Many GOD-fearing doctors and nurses treat sick people on the Sabbath but never collect the pay or they give out the pay. It depends on how much you love GOD and are willing to obey Him. |

Moreover, Achorladey,
Notice the context of that statement: Jesus had just healed a man. He did good work, a work that is beneficial to the man. He then proclaimed "My Father worketh hitherto..." Jesus implied that if you would accuse him of doing work on the Sabbath, then you must accuse His Father too, because GOD rested from the work of creation on the Sabbath, but never rested from doing good. Jesus, just as His Father was actively in the business of doing good to humanity, never missed a chance to do good to humanity, not even on the Sabbath day.
This again reveals that the Sabbath means good for man. If the only thing GOD would do on the Sabbath day is bless and heal man, it means that day is a day to look forward to expectantly. It is a day GOD wants man to give Him his full attention, so He can heal all his infirmities and bless him with the blessings of the Sabbath. |

Archoladey,
Jesus said to the Jews "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work."
For us to understand this properly, we'll have to look at the Bible.
"And on the seventh day GOD ended his work which He had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which He had made. (Gen. 2:2)
GOD, when He finished the work of Creation in 6 days, rested on the seventh day, and blessed it. Therefore, the Seventh day is a day of rest.
However, Jesus said His Father "worketh hitherto." What kind of work? It is surely not the work of creating stars and moons and galaxies and animals, because He rested from such work.
If we study the Bible carefully, we discover that GOD never rested from doing good, neither did He rest from watching over and protecting his people, nor did He rest from providing for his people, nor yet did He rest from recreating sinful beings and transforming them into the image of His Son.
GOD is working till now. He is never tired of doing good to man. |

Achorladey,
Jesus strongly rebuked the Pharisees for distorting His commandments, thereby saddling the people with heavy burdens(Matt. 23:4). He knew that when He gave the Sabbath as a precious gift to man, He never intended it to be burden under which he would sigh.
The Jews would not offer medical help to a sick person, thereby saving life, on the Sabbath, but they were plotting to take a life on the Sabbath day.(Jn. 5:16). Surely they were not keeping the Sabbath, in spite of the rigid laws they surrounded themselves with.
GOD never forbade work that is beneficiary to mankind on the Sabbath. Think of it: does the Sun not shine on the Sabbath day? Does the rain not bless the earth on the Sabbath day? Do crops in the farm refuse to grow on the Sabbath day? GOD, who orders all these good things, never withholds them from us on the Sabbath day.
GOD only forbade secular work/working for money on the Sabbath day. It is a day of rest from all worldly cares and a day of sweet communion with our Maker. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Not Get The Perspective Of Jehovah's Witnesses? Ask Ur Questions Here. by DoctorAlien(m): 5:19pm On Sep 15, 2016 |
Achorladey,
The struggles with the Jews had with Jesus was as a result of misinterpreting GOD's laws. GOD intended the Sabbath day to be a day of rest, holy relaxation, joy and communion with Himself.(Isa. 58:13-14)
The Sabbath day is a day when burden is to be relieved(Luke 13:16). A day in which we are to do good. Jesus exemplified this by healing people-both spiritually and physically-on the Sabbath day.
The Sabbath day is not a burden. The Pharisees formulated a thousand and one rules guiding the Sabbath. These rules made the Sabbath a burden on the people. The blessed and hallowed day of rest(Gen. 2:3) thus became a day of restlessness for the people. Some of the Sabbath rules the Pharisees made were:
¤ You could not spit on the ground because the spittle will mix with sand to make mortar, and that was considered work. You could only spit on a rock. ¤If a hen laid an egg on the Sabbath, the egg was not to be eaten because the hen worked. ¤You could only save a life when it's very critical. |

Achorladey,
In Jn. 5:1-17, Jesus went to Jerusalem for a Jewish feast. He met an impotent man who had been by the pool for 38 years waiting and hoping for healing. Jesus, out of compassion, healed the man and relieved him of the heavy under which he was.
According to Pharisaic laws, it was not lawful for a person to carry his bed on the Sabbath day, as it was considered work. The Jews therefore began interrogating the man. The man, after finding out it was Jesus who healed him and instructed him to take up his bed and walk, went and told the Jews. They then began plotting Jesus' death, because He did those things on the Sabbath. Jesus then said to them "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work."
The Jews suggested that Jesus broke GOD's Sabbath and so sinned. However, Jesus lived a totally sinless life; He committed no sin. And sin is the transgression of GOD's law(1 Jn. 3:4).
While secular work was forbidden by GOD on the Sabbath, doing good and helping humanity was never forbidden on that day. |

achorladey: @DoctorAlien I was reading John 5: 1 through 17 and I feel you should explain best what transpired between Jesus, the Jews and the man healed all surrounding the word SABATTH. Then explain vividly what this means Matthew 12: 27,28.
Be mindful of these as well..................They took it upon themselves to decide just what “work” meant. They labeled as work 39 different activities, such as reaping or hunting. These categories gave rise to endless questions. If a man killed a flea on the Sabbath, was he hunting? If he plucked a handful of grain to eat as he walked along, was he reaping? If he healed someone who was ill, was he working? Such questions were addressed with rigid, detailed rules. Good day friend. "...I count not myself to have apprehended..."(Phil. 3:13). However, I'll explain to the best of my knowledge in consonance with the Scriptures. |
